Zipadee Zip sleep sack

The Zipadee Zip sleep sack is a transitional sleep solution designed for babies who have started rolling over. It allows for arm movement while providing a snug fit to help reduce the startle reflex.

Pros (+)

  • Effective for transitioning from swaddles
  • Allows arm movement while reducing startle reflex
  • Recommended by many parents in support groups

Cons (−)

  • Some parents express safety concerns for rolling infants
  • Not all babies may find it comfortable
  • A few report it may not work for every sleep style

Why parents like it

Parents appreciate that the Zipadee Zip allows for safe arm movement while still providing a comforting snugness. It's often recommended for babies who have outgrown traditional swaddles but still need some restriction.

Common complaints

While most parents have no complaints, a few mention concerns about its safety for rolling babies. Additionally, some parents feel that it may not be suitable for all infants, particularly those who prefer more freedom of movement.

Best for

Parents looking for a transitional sleep solution for babies who are starting to roll. The tradeoff is that while it provides some restriction, it may not suit every baby's sleep style.

Bottom line

The Zipadee Zip is a great transitional sleep sack for many, but parents should weigh safety concerns if their baby is an early roller.

Another good one is the zipadee zip ! We use those and the halo with the straps wrapped around the belly. https://www.sleepingbaby.com

Zippadee zip worked for us! There a resale group on Facebook that sells them at pretty reasonable prices so you don’t have to shell out for a new one before you know it’ll work for you.

Another vote for rhe Zipadee Zip... and you don't have to transition! They make up to a 2T-3T, so our 15 month old active sleeper will probably use them until he is 2. He can't scratch himself (but has full use of his little hands to find his pacifier and lovey), can pace around his crib, roll, and presumably glide from tree to tree like a flying squirrel!

Glad you were awake to catch it! We switched to the zippadee zip sleep sack at thy age for the same reason. My son was not only an escape artist but would somehow manage to end with the fabric over his head. He loves his Zippadee sleep sacks.

Not op but it helped my baby get used to the feeling. The sensory dampening of the zippadee zip was helpful.

The only thing that’s “safe” (technically it’s not outright safe, but it’s considered parental discretion) is zipadee zip without the strap, but you absolutely have to follow their guidelines which means your baby can’t safely use it yet since they must be able to roll, as well as 3m+, and 12lbs+. It’s also worth mentioning a big reason why it’s parental discretion is the fit can be really concerning as it can bunch up over the baby’s mouth Right now, the only safe option is a sleep sack but after transitioning to a sleep sack I think you would be glutton for punishment if you got them hooked on the zipadee zip! We did cold Turkey and it was so much less struggle to get through it quickly

My little man (now almost 15mo) was ADDICTED to swaddle. We eventually went to the Zipadee Zip and it was perfect. It allows them to be “free” but still feel a bit of that cocooned feeling that comforts them! Edited to add: He is a face rubber (still) and that helped him not be spooked by his own hands bc he felt fabric.

The zipadee zip worked better for us than the Merlin (even though the Merlin was actually pretty decent). This is gonna sound crazy, but (if you use pacis) try giving your LO pacis to hold. We thought ours still had a Moro reflex, but instead we found out she just wanted to hold something.

This is pretty specific to our situation so it might not be of any help but we transitioned to the zipadee zip the day we started sleep training at 4 months so it was a two birds one stone kind of deal. In retrospect I wish we had just transitioned to a normal sleep sack because the zipadee zip/Merlin just becomes another thing to transition out of. Prior to sleep training we were trying one arm out of the swaddle and it was such a struggle because baby loved to rub his face which would wake him up. Sometimes we’d give up and stick both arms back in. Good luck.

Another plus 1 for the zippadee zip— I like that it’s safe to continue using even after rolling starts, and it still does a good job of dialing down Moro reflex

Second the zippadee zip. We transitioned from a swaddle with no issue. I realized that she liked to suck on her hands but if her hands were close to her eyes she would constantly rub them and couldn’t fall asleep like that. Fortunately the zippadee zip let’s her suck on her hands but she can’t reach her eyes. I like that I won’t have to transition again to another sleep sack like I would if I had to use the Merlin.

When our first started rolling around 2 months, we went through a hellish sleep regression for several weeks. She really struggled to sleep in a standard sleep sack and I was struggling to get enough sleep to function. In one of my 2am desperate google searches, I came across the Zipadee Zip, which is safe for rolling babies. That thing was *magic* for our daughter. The sleep regression was instantly over. Anyway, I'd give the sleep sack a try. But if it doesn't work, I'd try out the Zipadee Zip. Bonus points: they look so dang cute in it (like a little baby seal).

Bought both the zippadee zip and Merlin. We’re going through it now. We decided to abandoned the Merlin because we’d just have to transition again. This question gets asked a lot on this sub, myself included. Most people recommend the zippadee zip or just cold turkey in a sleep sack. We’re on day 5 and it might be getting better? I’m seriously knocking on wood right now. She was a 7pm-7am with maybe a couple wakeups, including one to eat while swaddled. Now she is up every hour or so. Best of luck!

We transitioned at 6-8 weeks from the Love to Dream to the Zippadee Zip. I wanted to wait until she was big enough to transition to the arms out love to dream (13 or 14 lbs I think?) but she started showing signs of rolling so we had to transition earlier than I'd like. No issues with the Zippadee Zip so far and it's been about 2 weeks.

You could try an arms up swaddle or transition to a Zippadee Zip. Also, your husband should be doing night shifts on *both* weekend nights, not just one. He gets 5 other nights of full sleep, you deserve *at* *least* 2.

So happy you caught this momma ! But the recommendation is to stop swaddling at 8 weeks . I would suggest using the zippadee zip . We started using it around week 7 and she loves it . She can roll and self soothe just fine . You can buy a band to make it feel snug but they have multiple sizes AND they’re super cute .

The LTD is no longer safe and you need to stop using it immediately. As the MOD said the magic Merlin and zipadee zip are the only safe options at this age but I would also vote to just go cold turkey all together.

I came here to say this. My kids are all zipadee-zippers, and I'm one of those people who will talk about it to anyone who will listen, lol. Yes they're pricey, but it gives them that enclosed feeling still, keeps them warm at night, and is completely sleep safe. My daughter was in one until she turned 2, and my one year old loves his currently.

My son first rolled to his tummy while he was tossing and turning in his crib. I was glad I had switched to a sleep sack before then. You don’t really want to wait until they roll during tummy time. Plus, I think the transition is easier the sooner you do it. It just gets harder to stop swaddling the older they get. But you can definitely use something like the Zipadee Zip that keeps their arms contained but not pinned to their side!

Sleepless nights are hard! Unfortunately, this is the age to stop swaddling (before they start rolling, last thing you want is them rolling fir the first time when it’s night time and arms aren’t free). We never swaddled at all, but I know some people are happy with the zippadee zip or the Merlin sleep sack.

This is why I’d recommend going straight to the Zipadee zip - Merlin isn’t safe once they can roll in the suit (even if they can roll out of it) so you’re going to once again have to try something else as part of the transition.

I transitioned my baby to zipadee at three months. He loves them! I started with one nap a day, then increased... By the time I put him in them at night, he was used to them. You actually don't HAVE to even transition out of them... They go up to toddler size. I bought all three of mine on fb marketplace.

The transition out of the swaddle is hard! It took us about four days of god awful sleep for our girl to transition out of it. We used the zipadee zip and now that she’s used to it she’s doing great! I belong to a safe sleep group on Facebook and they say the arms up is just as unsafe as swaddling - both should be stopped by 8 weeks. Ours has done really well with the zipadee zip! It does provide some resistance for the startle while still being safe. I’m just starting to try having his arms out for just a sleep sack during naps and I think the middle ground with the zipadee has helped make that less of a jump
