Yep! When I opened it and it loaded, the guy was right up to it looking almost right into the camera as he was setting it up. I think that added to the creepiness, it felt like he was looking at me and I suddenly felt watched again.

That, the pan scan, or even just a simple reboot. Mine has auto update turned on so occasionally I'll hear it whirring around after it updates. I know no one else had access unless they've completely bypassed the wyze app, bc I'm the owner and in order for other people to see the cam, I have to invite them, and I get login notifications via email when I log in from a new device. I love my wyze cameras. I got a 3 pack years ago and I only needed two (one for front door and one for back) until I had my baby. Now we use one as a monitor. I can pop her in the swing or bassinet and go out to my car and clean out the trash or move the car seat over and I'll know she's fine.

Is the Ring camera somehow more secured even though it's also on wifi? This is one of my worst nightmare and why I have a non wifi monitor. However I do have wyze cameras that I only turn on when we're away for an extended period.

Wyze cameras - can view video stream from any phone or tablet w the app, great night time vision, subtle/blend into decor, CHEAP. We have 2 in the room, one on the crib and the other high up for multiple POVs. Downside is they are not wireless, but I can’t imagine using them outside a home or indoor environment. I was skeptical but got to hand it to my brilliant husband - so much better and more economical than anything w the name “baby” attached!

Thread: "Baby Monitor/Cam Suggestions"

We did a combo of an offline cam and a Wyze Pan v3. The offline one is the Babysense 5.5" 1080p cam and so far so good, cannot complain whatsoever with it. The Wyze Pan V3 is honestly fantastic but if you're worried about footage being stored on servers, you're honestly gonna have to strictly go with offline cams that do not connect with the internet.

And this is why I’ve never put a Wyze cam inside my house. Have 4 around the perimeter though.

Thread: "Recommendations for baby monitors?"

Baby monitors are insanely overpriced. We switched to a Wyze Cam. 40$, tilts, pans, motion tracking, and the picture quality is 1000x better than our top rated 200$ baby monitor. We actually just used the super expensive one as a sound monitor at night when our son moved to his own room. He’s 2 now so it goes completely unused.

Wyze camera + old school v tech radio baby monitor. No sock sensor, no special all in one video monitor, just a spare wyze cam for the nursery and the low tech monitor.

Thread: "Which Baby Monitor??!!"

Wyze v3 - uses wifi and you can see things from multiple devices. You can set motion detection area and sensitivity. In colour and night vision. Sound is good but for overnight we have an ipad showing the wyze feed and use some basic vtech audio only monitors for sounds. For travel purposes we use Leapfrog LF915hd non wifi version. Pretty decent actually. Battery lasts. Good sound and visual.

I second the vtech audio. It's a classic for a reason. We have a wyze cam to check video as needed but we primarily use the vtech audio.

This is what we did as well, except with a Wyze cam instead of Google. It has worked out perfectly for us. And like you, we’ll use the camera elsewhere when it’s no longer needed for LO. I definitely recommend this setup OP!

Thread: "Best baby monitors?"

I use a wyze cam v3. That thing has surprisingly really good nighttime vision. The room could be very dimly lit and on the feed it looks like you have a bright lamp on with a clear picture. It also has infrared. There's extra subscription based stuff like 24/7 cloud recording and motion detection but I found that completely unnecessary for my needs. You can also record directly onto a SD card. We just use it as a live feed monitor. They don't have an app for PC to view the feed so I downloaded BlueStacks (Android phone emulator) and installed the Wyze app there with a desktop shortcut. So whenever I'm in the office I just open the app up on my second monitor and enable sound. This way if I'm playing games or watching something, I can glance over and check on him or hear when he's getting fussy.

Thread: "Do we really need a nice baby monitor like the Nanit or Owlet if we're room sharing for the first 6 months anyway?"

I would avoid the owlet. My baby was in the NICU for 5 days and his oxygen monitor would go off all the time because he was moving his foot or his PJs moved. At home, we have a VTech audio monitor and a wyze camera to watch his room. That combo works great.

I love the Vtech devices. Radio operated. Receiver light up colors (green/ red) depending on how loud it is by the transceiver . . Clips to my belt. Very sensitive to sound so we hear it. We pair this with a video devie (Wyze cam v3) and only check video every so often to make sure he’s faced somewhere safely

Thread: "Don’t buy the Owlet cam."

Are you past the return timeframe? We also bought an owlet cam from target and set up it, hated it. We returned it and got another baby monitor.. but honestly the one we like the best is a Wyze cam that’s set up in our bedroom (the baby monitor is in his room, he still sleeps in our room). It is through WiFi but they are like $25-35 and way better than our baby monitor. We just have one of our phones or tablets open to the app once we put him to bed. Edited to add: Sorry, I didn’t see the issue of the phone being turned off to update during the night :/ this definitely doesn’t solve that problem.

Thread: "Thoughts on the Owlet sock?"

The Owlet Sock has been our single favorite device for our 9 month old’s entire life. Throughout the very brief cosleeping period, every single nap, and everything in between. This, with a Wyze cam has been such an overwhelming sense of security for our little man’s health. My wife stays at home, and I work on an ambulance. If it goes off, I can immediately see it on my watch/phone and check in when I’m not at home. I know if it goes off, she’s already checking on him. God forbid it was an actual emergency, I’ve got either app open within seconds for that immediate peace of mind without stressing her out further with a phone call in that moment. The Owlet Sock, and the Boogie butt spray are the 2 things I would bring to any new parent I am close with. They will change your life.

Thread: "Nanit vs. Owlet vs. Wyze V3"

When my son was a newborn, I swore by the Nanit as I was petrified of SIDS after I watched the videos required to leave the hospital. Fast forward to 2 years old and the V3 works just fine as I’m more comfortable. For reference I still use the Nanit at my house and the V3 at my in laws. One tip if you do go with the nanit: Solid color crib sheets. We had two false alarms due to patterned crib sheets

Thread: "Nanit vs. Owlet vs. Wyze V3"

Nanit user here. The ability to keep the audio from the camera streaming all night long while your phone screen is off, is absolutely vital as a baby cam. Wyze can’t do this. Also, Nanit has breath monitoring with an alarm that will DEFINITELY wake you up if it can’t detect breathing. The smart sheets are a gimmick, but their sleeping swaddle thing (which has a pattern for the camera to detect breathing) worked amazing for us. Kid slept warm and happy (as much as could be). This was our third kid, and I noticed the difference. My 2cents. I definitely wouldn’t use Wyze for an infant. But I do use Wyze to keep the toddler in line at night time. If I remember correctly, owlet has a sensor on the kids foot. I know for a fact my kid would kick that off every night. I thinks it’s a flawed concept. When the kid grows older, he/she would feel unbalanced when the foot sensor was no longer used. Just my opinion.

Wyze has good parts and bad parts. I use it and it's saved us a lot of time peaking in to check. The Wyze cameras connection errors is a big pain though. Luckily I'm around so I can just reset power. If I wasn't able to reset it, and nobody else could do it within a couple of minutes, it'd probably drive me crazy.

Thread: "WiFi vs. Traditional Baby Monitors"

We had Wyze cams (wifi) as the security cams in our house before baby, so just bought a new v3 version for baby's room (amazing night vision), got a little Amazon Fire tablet, and downloaded the tinycam pro app so it can keep the camera app and sound open and playing all night. Added bonus that it's an app on our phones if we are somewhere in the house without the monitor or monitor is dead. People have mentioned concerns about hacking, but since my whole house already has these (we have 9 total), I clearly haven't been concerned about that aspect being likely enough to occur.
