Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro
The Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro is a non-Wi-Fi baby monitor designed for parents seeking a secure and reliable video feed. It features a large display screen, the ability to add multiple cameras, and a long-range signal.
Pros (+)
- Clear video quality allows parents to see baby breathing
- Long-range signal works well even outside
- Ability to add multiple cameras for different rooms
Cons (−)
- Battery life on the handheld monitor could be better
- Higher price compared to some budget monitors
- Some users report occasional disconnection issues
Why parents like it
Parents appreciate the ability to see their baby clearly, even from a distance, and the option to add multiple cameras for monitoring different rooms. The non-Wi-Fi feature is also valued for privacy reasons.
Common complaints
Some parents find that the battery life of the handheld monitor could be better, with reports of it draining quickly during use. Additionally, a few mention that the price is higher compared to other baby monitors on the market.
Parents who want a reliable video monitor without Wi-Fi for privacy. The tradeoff is a higher price point compared to budget options.
The Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro is a great option for parents who prioritize video clarity and security, though some may find the price and battery life less appealing.

Infant Optix DXR pro. Non-wifi, can add multiple cameras for multiple kids or play room, very long range (as a test we took the monitor across the street and still had full signal). Great screen resolution, sound quality and ambient noise filter. We love it so much we got a second one to travel with.
Thread: "VTech monitor possibly hacked"
That is so scary, I’m sorry you went through that! This is the exact reason we chose to go with a monitor that doesn’t use WiFi. In case you want to go that route, we love our monitor! Is the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro. The monitor has a big display screen, pretty good range, you can zoom in close enough to see their breathing, you can hold a button on the monitor and talk through the camera (functions like a walkie-talkie since it doesn’t use Internet), and it shows the temperature in the room.
Thread: "What baby monitoring/ cam system do you all use? "
We use the Infant Optics DXR-8, it’s been going strong for 4+ years and we plan to also use it for our second that’s due in September. It’s a no bullshit monitor that has good sound, an LED audio meter on the side, you can turn the video off and just use audio, and the battery life is great. If we got a different monitor we would just get the updated dxr-8 pro (or whatever it’s called).

We have an Infant Optics DXR8 Pro and are very happy with it!

This is the way. You really don't want to rely on your phone; it's so much better to have a standalone setup. I highly recommend the DXR-8 PRO by Infant Optics. About $200 and you can set it up in 5 minutes. I was in the same boat as you and sort of paralyzed but did some research and was really satisfied with the model I got. I hope it works out for you!

Infant optics pro doesn’t use Wi-Fi and the range is great for us — I’ve brought the monitor outside and still have been able to see and hear everything
Thread: "Baby Monitor Recommendations?"
We've got the infant optics pro and we love it. It doesn't have wifi so the audio/video is only available on the monitor (our biggest requirement), is relatively small so we're able to travel with it, and it has the option to add a second camera and scroll between both for future kiddos and if there are two places that kiddo sleeps regularly (we had one camera setup in our room when baby still slept there overnight and one in her room for naps).
Thread: "Baby monitor recommendations"
It was really important for us to get one that is wifi free and we went with the Infant Optix DXR-8 Pro and I can’t recommend it enough! The set up is super easy, screen is huge with great resolution and I can zoom in close enough to see little guy’s chest breathing. It also has a feature that cuts out white noise so I’m just hearing him and not our Hatch and humidifier.

Infant Optics Pro has been great for us. No wifi but reaches really far, clear enough image and zoom to see baby breathe, normal sound
Thread: "Baby monitor shopping is overwhelmed"
Infant optics DXR8 pro have been using it for 5 years have 3 cameras and customer service is phenomenal.
Thread: "Baby monitors?"
Been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro for a year now and it has been great. * Doesn't rely on our phones or WiFi * Very reliable connection (has never disconnected) * Seamless expansion to multiple cameras (we added a 2nd for a play area after a few months) * Cameras have a thermometer that reads out on the display (enabled us to set our house thermostat such that LO's room was the right temp range) * Plays a warning tone if the battery gets low or connection is lost * Stupid simple interface that just works (more important than it sounds when you have newborn brain) * Acts as "baton" for clear handoff with SO of who is on-duty As for the features other systems offer that this lacks: * After a year, we've never felt a need to remote in to the cameras * We read plenty of anecdotes of the breathing/activity/growth tracking monitors not being 100% accurate and actually adding more anxiety than they remove by parents fixating on the data or feeling they had a false sense of security
Thread: "Baby Monitor Analysis Paralysis"
Second the rec on infant optics. Very easy to setup/move, as "dumb" as you want it to be, easy to scale to multiple monitors,/camera later

We have the Infant Optics DXR-8 PRO, we love it.

We have the infant optics pro and the noise canceling feature is *chefs kiss*
Thread: "Recs for non-Wifi baby monitors "
We use the pro version and it’s great. I’m most impressed by the audio quality - I keep it at about half volume at night and can clearly hear my baby breathing. 🥰

Our infant optics monitor has been great and so easy to use. Never had any issues!
Thread: "So my baby monitor was hacked."
We have the Infant Optics DXR-8 pro and no joke, this thing is amazing. Not wifi connected, monitor is so clear I can see baby breathing while she’s sleeping, and you can move the camera around from the monitor.
Thread: "Recs for non-Wifi baby monitors "
I feel like I spent a million years researching this! We landed on infant optics DXR-8 Pro after reading sooo many reviews online and on Reddit!
Thread: "Baby monitors — security concerns?"
In addition to the hacking risk (though low) with wifi monitors, my bigger issue is that those companies like Nanit, store your footage and allow you to save clips to the app. That's a big no for me to have not just video of my child, bit video of me breastfeeding, stored by a company that could be hacked. Anyways, I have the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro monitor that I really like and would recommend. The video quality is good enough that I can zoom in and see if he's breathing, and it's on a closed loop.
Thread: "Baby Monitor Analysis Paralysis"
Yea and the fact it will still work when your Wi-Fi goes out, and be less vulnerable to being hacked.
Thread: "Is the Nannit worth it?"
Your wife is going to drive herself nuts with both of those devices going at once. It is 100% understandable to want to make sure the baby is ok but monitoring sleep+breathing through two different devices at once is overkill. Of the two, I'd say skip the Owlet because of what u/Bishops_Guest said - there are false alarms that will drive you both into a panic. We stuck with the highest-rated, non-WiFi monitor - the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro - and looking back, I'm glad we did. All that data and app stuff is just too much and not very helpful in the end, IMO, but it'll raise your anxiety levels.
Thread: "Baby monitors for the internet security conscious"
We also have the infant optics and chose it because it runs on encrypted radio frequency instead of Internet. I actually prefer that the monitor is separate from my phone, it means I can use my phone easily and still have an ear/eye on baby and it's easy to hand the monitor over to babysitter without needing an app on their phone. We've had ours for over a year, bought it second hand and it's running well. Super easy to install.
Thread: "baby monitor"
Infant optics DXR-8 pro all the way! Closed loop system, no WiFi needed.
Thread: "I've been tasked to find the best baby monitor. What are you all thinking?"
We haven't used them yet, but we got the Infant Optics as well (the DXR-8 Pro). We liked that it didn't connect to wifi so we didn't have to worry about the privacy concerns but still had the video feed.
Thread: "Baby monitor shopping is overwhelmed"
Seconding this one. It’s great.
Thread: "Baby monitors seem like a scam with how atrociously poor quality they are"
We've got both a Google wired and infant optics dx8 pro. The infant optics works fine and has never had dropped connections and audio is adequate for us to sleep in other room
Thread: "Baby Monitor Analysis Paralysis"
I have the infant optics dxr pro. Not connected to wifi, no need for notifications just bring the monitor
Thread: "What Baby Monitor to Get? - Infant Optics DXR-8-Pro, Bebcare Motion - Digital Video Low Emissions Baby Monitor, Eufy Spaceview"

We use Infant Optics as well and it's been great so far.
Thread: "So my baby monitor was hacked."
Infant Optics seems to be one of the best ones out there! I’m researching one tonight after I change all of our wifi settings…
Thread: "Baby Monitor Recommendations?"
Seconding this monitor! We love the non-WiFi feature as well, and I believe up to 4 cameras can be linked to the monitor at one time. We have two cameras, and love being able to easily travel with it.
Thread: "Infant Optics DXR-8 pro vs Eufy Spaceview pro?"
I have the eufy. Love it, no complaints. It's got a great range so I can go outside to the edge of the yard and still use it. I noticed the comment on the battery life for infant optics so I will also say that our Eufy has a good battery life. I usually charge it at night but it can go 2-3 days without charging before it dies, so if I forget to plug it in one night it's no problem and on overnight trips I don't have to bother bringing the charger.
Thread: "Recs for non-Wifi baby monitors "
Pro is the way to go with the white sound remover
Thread: "Baby Monitor Analysis Paralysis"
Plus one for DRX-8 PRO. So easy to setup when traveling somewhere for the weekend. No wifi setup nonsense, it just works. Also the noise cancelling is really useful if you have a white noise machine in the room
Thread: "Baby monitors"
I love my infant optics pro so far! You can connect multiple cameras later too!
Thread: "Infant Optics DXR-8 pro vs Eufy Spaceview pro?"
I have infant optics DXR-8 pro and it’s great. My only complaint is that the handheld screen battery doesn’t last super long but it really hasn’t been too much of an inconvenience. Totally recommend it!
Thread: "Baby Monitors: Get the Infant Optics DXR-8"
Late to the party, but we also went with the Infant Optics DX8 Pro and absolutely love it. Setting it up was done in seconds. It just works immediately. Battery life is great. Quality is great. But to me the most important is that it works on a closed network, without Wifi. We travel a lot and do not want to depend on hotel wifi or other people's wifi. I also like that it is a lot more secure than many wifi setups out there.
Thread: "WiFi baby monitor hacking"
I’ve loved the infant optics pro, for 18 months now
Thread: "baby monitor"
I have the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro. It's been great. No internet, long enough range that I never have an issue in our house, the picture is good, audio is great, and battery is replaceable so if it dies at any point it's a simple fix.
Thread: "Best Baby Monitor: What Do Parents Recommend?"
I’m so glad this was the first response I saw. Best monitor I’ve had. Got it with my third, wish I had it with my oldest two.
Thread: "Baby monitors seem like a scam with how atrociously poor quality they are"
Agreed on Infant Optics. 2 different family members have been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 for a year with no issues (currently $166 USD ON amazon). I recently got the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro (currently $200 USD on Amazon). I've been using it for the past few months and no issues. Both monitors work great. In my opinion, the Pro is worth the extra $35. Larger screen, better noise cancelation if you use any white noise, higher picture resolution. But both models work very well.
Thread: "Pros vs cons of wifi baby monitor?"
I love the infant optics pro. We tried the owlet WiFi monitor first and it was awful. Like just threw it in the trash. You could set up some indoor ring cameras or something for when you have a sitter and take them offline when you don’t need to see what’s going on.
Thread: "Recs for non-Wifi baby monitors "
The vox is fairly sensitive to noise but not so much that it fully wakes me with every sound. I really only hear my baby whimper or cry, not moving around unless he hits his head on the side of the crib. We live right next to a highway and a really loud car/truck will also get picked up. I also keep it on its most sensitive setting, so if I changed it to the "loud cry" setting it might not pick up as much minor things. Overall I like our monitor, but once in a while it cuts out for a couple seconds which is annoying and I also wish the camera itself didn't need to be plugged in to an outlet to work and had a battery like the monitor itself. This would be convenient for travel
Thread: "Recs for non-Wifi baby monitors "
We used the Vava with my first and have been disappointed with range across the house and night vision, so I wouldn’t use again. Just bought the infant optix 8 pro that is recommended for number 2.
Thread: "Any baby monitor suggestions from the graduates?"
We had the DXR 8 and then upgraded to the pro. The pro is fantastic! And they had a promo if you leave a review for them on Amazon, they’ll send you a free extra camera. Good for baby #2!
Thread: "What Baby Monitor to Get? - Infant Optics DXR-8-Pro, Bebcare Motion - Digital Video Low Emissions Baby Monitor, Eufy Spaceview"
DXR-8-Pro was just highly recommended to me by an exhausted new dad at my local Buy Buy Baby. He said 5/5.
Thread: "baby monitor"
I have one of those and it’s great! Their customer service is awesome too. Our camera wouldn’t turn on when we first got it, and they sent me a new one super quickly after troubleshooting the issue
Thread: "Baby Monitor Recommendations?"
People always mention the no WiFi for safety reasons, which is super valid, but it also makes it perfect for traveling. We’ve even taken ours way out into the woods camping to keep an eye on our son between his bedtime and ours. We plug it into a battery bank and it’s good to go. Hotels and staying with friends/relatives is super easy.
Thread: "Baby monitor shopping is overwhelmed"
Same here. And you can buy a mount on Amazon if you want it to go over the crib like nanit
Thread: "What Baby Monitor to Get? - Infant Optics DXR-8-Pro, Bebcare Motion - Digital Video Low Emissions Baby Monitor, Eufy Spaceview"
We've used infant optix for almost 3 years and my only complaint is that it frequently disconnects from the camera even if it's not that far away. We recently replaced it with another model and I kind of miss it!
