Thread: "Man Talking To My Daughter Through Owlet Camera"
This happened to us!!! I still use the same monitor but took it off wifi, it's vtech brand. I didn't hear anyone talking but I was watching my son on the monitor & the camera just started panning around the room & zooming in different areas. Absolutely terrifying.
Thread: "Please be careful with WiFi baby monitors"
We have a vtech one that only works with the little screen it came with and it works great. I’d heard horror stories before about the wifi ones and decided against getting one
Thread: "Nanit Camera Hacked"
We went with the VTECH camera because of this. No wifi, no BT… no creeps hacking a child monitor. Sacrificing camera quality over a nicer newer model was worth it
Thread: "Nanit Camera Hacked"
Yep same here!! Simple VTech for me.
Thread: "IT concerns over baby monitor?"
Don't connect to internet. In past baby monitors { like any IoT device } are hacked You dont need to monitor over internet. Here in Australia we use Vtech baby monitors without any internet connection.
Thread: "Man Talking To My Daughter Through Owlet Camera"
No - they mean it operates completely independent from needing a phone. The non-WiFi V-tech cameras for example use a FHSS closed circuit camera system instead of the internet.
Thread: "IT concerns over baby monitor?"
We just used an old school VTech 1-way audio monitor. No video, no Internet, nothing. Just sound.
Thread: "Our owlet monitor was just hacked."
I have a vtech baby monitor and it was making some hella weird noises one night. I disconnected the wifi on it so now it just connects the parent unit to the monitor in the room. No issues since
Thread: "Please be careful with WiFi baby monitors"
We got the $19 v-tech sound-only baby monitor for my mom’s house and she loves it- I apologized that it doesn’t have video, but she said it was fine for her in the 90s so it’s fine now! Lol
Thread: "Our owlet monitor was just hacked."
We have a baby monitor that's VTECH.. doesn't work on WiFi so there is no way it can be hacked. Costs a bit more but MUCH safer.. so sorry this happened to you!!! This was our worst fear so paid the extra for a different system. Downfall is you can't use on your phone there is one camera and a monitor to watch and listen too, but you can play music through it and has a telecomm. Hugs.

Vtech £50 one from argos, ticks all your boxes - we've been using it for about a year and love it!
Thread: "Man Talking To My Daughter Through Owlet Camera"
Mine did this and it ended up being something it does when it resets 😂
Thread: "Our owlet monitor was just hacked."
That is terrifying. I’m so sorry! If you’re looking for a replacement we have a non-Wi-Fi one that works well. It’s a VTech and it only has a handheld monitor (no streaming the video to apps or anything). The downside is the battery life is crap so it’s just permanently plugged in at this point.
Thread: "Please be careful with WiFi baby monitors"
Yes we also have a vtech one! We had to get a new one quickly as our (expensive!!) Arlo was a piece of crap and never worked. Well that vtech has been through hell and back and still works fine. It is mangled but ALWAYS works, also nice to have a non wifi one as our WiFi would come and go.
Thread: "WiFi vs. Traditional Baby Monitors"
We just stuck with the V Tech audio only monitor. No camera, no WiFi. Low tech, it works, and nothing extra we don't need.
Thread: "My baby monitor got a call?"
VTECH CARES ABOUT YOUR BABY'S SAFETY. We have the same one and the extremely loud safety warning makes me cackle every time.
Thread: "IT concerns over baby monitor?"
You don’t want to depend on Comcast or whatever ISP to have its shit together, so you can use the monitor.
Thread: "Has anyone ever had their baby’s monitor hacked??"
Bought the v-tech non wifi camera for this reason! It has a 1,000 foot range, didn’t want to deal with the hacking!
Thread: "Our owlet monitor was just hacked."
I was given a WiFi monitor when my second was born and immediately returned it when I realised, I've heard horrible stories. No chance, good old 10m range one for me!
Thread: "Help Choosing A Baby Monitor"
I agree with other commenters that you do NOT want to give your parents access to your nursery. Your partner is going to be in there boobs out a lot and she'll have enough going on not to be paranoid about her in laws seeing her boobs, her post partum body, occasionally her butt if she runs in there half dressed. We personally use basic cheap Vtech monitors, we had wifi cameras for a bit but everything was hard and kept glitching. Now we have audio only ones which are fine. Suggestion for your parents: https://frameo.net/. Wifi photo frame. They set it up at their place and "invite" you and then you can take a photo on your phone and instantly upload it to their photo frame. Super easy way to share photos and have them involved in your day to day activities. My parents have one and great regular photos from all the kids and grandkids who are spread all over the place.
Thread: "Do I need a baby monitor?"
My LO hasn’t rolled yet so it’s the “what if” spontaneous rolling face down for me 🥲
Thread: "Baby monitor options?"
We have two - Hello baby and VTech. VTech has the option to connect to phones and add more cameras. We scared ourselves though by reading stories of monitors connected to WiFi being hacked and creeps talking to LO or videos being posted online. So we keep both monitors off of WiFi. It means the phone app doesn't work, but when we did have the app, we liked it. Hello baby is a great monitor for the crib or bassinet as it is super zoomed in as a default. VTech works better for a room as our model does panoramic as a default and only has blurry digital zoom...
Thread: "What does the evidence say about baby monitors?"
I have a two story house so I bought just a regular old V-Tech audio monitor for when we are down on the living room or sun porch. Other than that she sleeps in our room at night. I honestly don’t see a need for a camera monitor. I have a cheap Wyze camera and tbh I don’t even have it plugged in anymore because it gets boring fast.
Thread: "Not everyone can fork out 300 for a Owlet sock "
Same! We use a cheap $35 v tech audio monitor. I have 3 kids, youngest is 7 months old. I am a bit paranoid over all the Bluetooth and other wireless technologies so try to keep things as low tech as possible around my baby. It’s also why I would never use an Owlet monitor to literally ATTACH a device to my baby’s teeny body. OP, please do not feel this way - Owlet is a for profit company making money off of new parent anxieties. Is it a cool technology? Sure. Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Practice all the safe sleep habits to prevent SIDS and know that your baby is perfectly safe without an owlet.
Thread: "Do you recommend the Owlet or Nanit with the Snoo?"
I got the owlet, even though my baby is totally healthy and I was advised not to. I knew it was not recommended but I did it anyways 🙃 and I wish I had not. It has given me a false alarm a handful of times which gave me a heart attack… and I realized that it just made me way more anxious (which is what I was told would happen). I also feel like it doesn’t work that well with Wi-Fi (same with the owlet camera— it will lose signal fairly often). I got a typical VTech monitor and like that much more
Thread: "Baby monitor recommendations?"
We got an on sale 1080p V-tech camera. It has sound, 2 way talk and great video feed even in night vision, 360 degree camera panning, displays temperature and sends alerts if it exceeds what you set it to, plays sounds like music and white noise, and sends motion detection alerts. It checked all my boxes and I was impressed with the quality.
Thread: "Best affordable baby monitor?"
We got ours off Amazon. The brand is Hello Baby and it has video and doesn't use WiFi. Around $100 or so? We've also got an audio only vtech monitor for when she's not in her crib, pretty sure it was around $30-40.
Thread: "Lads... baby monitors, please."
I also recommend a basic sound-only solution. They're cheap and have fewer parts that'll break. That being said, we went with a vtech audio monitor + wifi camera. This means the camera is more of a convenience. If wifi goes out, we can still hear our kid. As far as hacking goes, most RF monitors can be snooped as well. Our wifi camera is blocked from the internet. Sure it'll never be 100% safe & secure, but neither will anything else you buy
Thread: "Best no BS baby monitor?"
I love the Vtech sound-only monitors—pretty simple. I like the slightly more expensive one ($43) that has [a walkie-talkie feature](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007NG5UF4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). It’s not super useful when the kid is a baby, but it’s extremely useful for when your kindergartener calls out for snacks and you can walkie-talkie them to stay put and wait for beef jerky.
Thread: "Anyone not use monitors"
We just use an old fashioned, VTech sound only monitor! Personally, tracking her vitals or watching her on the screen would give me more anxiety and even less sleep than I get now. However, my baby is healthy and was full term. Had my baby been a preemie or had health concerns, I'd likely think differently about it!
Thread: "Overwhelmed with the search for the right baby monitor (Raditation, Security and sensor pad)"
Radiation from any modern consumer grade device is not worth worrying about. It's all low levels of non-ionizing radiation. Just don't buy some sketchy thing off aliexpress and you're fine. My biggest complaint with video monitors is that they're pretty junk quality and you're lugging around what feels like a tablet from >10 years ago with bad battery life and it costs a lot. IMO you're better off getting a cheap audio-only monitor (vtech, philips, whatever) and using an inexpensive wifi camera (wyzecam highly recommended, you can get one for $24) above the crib so you can check in from your phone or tablet.
Thread: "Baby Monitor Recommendations?"
I bought a vtech one from Amazon, no wifi so it saves me the peace of mind of hackers.
Thread: "Baby monitor recommendations - non wifi"
Got our Vtech from Best Buy and it’s been amazing! No complaints at all so far. I love thag it comes with two cameras so my parent have one for when babe and I sleepover, and we obviously have the other one.
Thread: "What’s your favorite baby monitor? [bc]"
Just have to say we have the Nanit and I feel mid about it for the price. We used the breathing band only a few times, sometimes it cuts out with our wifi, and we had to purchase a non-wifi one for trips where we won’t have a reliable connection. I love that I can just pull the camera up on my phone though, that is definitely the biggest selling point along with all the stats that make it easy to time wake windows. The non-wifi one we bought was a cheap V Tech one and it’s honestly great. If I was doing it again I would probably be inclined to just get a simpler one!
Thread: "Video vs Audio-Only Baby Monitor"
The $20 vtech audio monitor is great and I recommend having it, especially as back-up and when you have a baby. By the time my kid was 6-8 months though I wanted video to see what she was doing in there. Especially useful for a toddler who will get out of bed and may make mischief.
Thread: "Do I need a baby monitor?"
I’m going to be in the minority here and say no, you do not need one! My baby is 11 months old now and we have only ever had a v tech audio monitor, which we no longer even plug in for the same reason as you- her room is right across from ours, so we can just hear her. I live in a 2400 sq ft ranch and feel comfortable that if she truly needs us at any time during a nap or overnight, we’d be able to hear her!
Thread: "Best no BS baby monitor?"
We used vtech. Super simple and did the job.
Thread: "Best no BS baby monitor?"
Vtech, I loved it. Especially the temperature monitor on it.
Thread: "Our owlet monitor was just hacked."
My vtech was literally the cheapest monitor target jad. You can get them on the cheap. I upgraded to amother vtech and it was only $70
Thread: "What does the evidence say about baby monitors?"
I'll say the V-tech monitors are excellent. We have two different kinds and both have worked flawlessly
Thread: "Does anyone know which Owlet Dream sock is the best to get?"
My baby was a premie, and I was a first-time dad, so I was very paranoid. Bought an owlet sock from ebay to monitor heart rate and o2. Used it, maybe 8 times. Total waste. Just my experience. As others have said a good baby monitor is the best bet. I like ones that dont use wifi. The vtech with a dedicated monitor has been great.
Thread: "Non wifi baby monitors"
You both just saved me a job 👍👌 nice one 😆
Thread: "What’s your favorite baby monitor? [bc]"
We got VTech DM111 (audio only) for \~28$ so it is easy to carry around and works hours on the battery. Perfect for every day use. Plus we got Nest camera which we use occasionally , I like the wifi part as I can check on baby from any room from and any device and if need a babysitter or decide to use it for another purposes - no problem. Note: babies usually sleep like they are possessed(they might stop breathing and then start breathing rapidly, move - A LOT, and make some crazy noises), so having breathing monitor, sock(owlet) and other such devices might backfire and bring unnecessary stress.
Thread: "Baby Monitors - To spend or not to spend. "
We have been using the VTech RM7766HD-2 for 2.5 years with no real issues. We had the cameras in different rooms, one for our child and one watching an elderly parent. Using the smart phone app I sometimes have to switch between cameras in order to see the live screen but don't find that to be a deal breaker. Sound/video quality is good. We use the nightlight and white noise feature every night.
Thread: "Baby monitors seem like a scam with how atrociously poor quality they are"
Yep! V-Tech brand, audio only. Half the time I don't even use it. I figure if he needs me, I'll hear him!
Thread: "Is a Baby Monitor really necessary?"
I'm blind so I have a unique perspective. I can't use a video monitor although I have central vision I have no night vision and those video monitors you can't tell anything in them. My husband has 20/20 vision and even he can't tell which end is which when we watch my niece on my SIL's monitor. I offered to get a video one if my husband wanted but they are way more expensive than the audio only ones. See as the camera has no use to me and it's cheaper to get audio only we bough a Vtech audio monitor. Baby and us literally share a wall but we have it on at night and when I'm downstairs during the day when baby naps. We also don't obsess and constantly look at the video feed for every sound because we don't have any video. If there's a real concern you'll know you can hear it. So yeah audio makes so much more sense than video. Also my husband has told me horror stories of people hacking in to video feeds (not just for baby monitors) so we weren't comfortable putting a video monitor in our child's bedroom that good be hacked by weirdo strangers.
Thread: "Baby monitor battery …"
Vetch digital video with remote access? I have that one and it is trashhhh. And then it won’t charge if I have it plugged in and on. I’ve actually been debating on buying a new one when we transition baby into her crib in her room because I hate it so much.
Thread: "Which Baby Monitor??!!"
Wyze v3 - uses wifi and you can see things from multiple devices. You can set motion detection area and sensitivity. In colour and night vision. Sound is good but for overnight we have an ipad showing the wyze feed and use some basic vtech audio only monitors for sounds. For travel purposes we use Leapfrog LF915hd non wifi version. Pretty decent actually. Battery lasts. Good sound and visual.
Thread: "I've been tasked to find the best baby monitor. What are you all thinking?"
This right here is almost exactly what we did. Have been really happy.
Thread: "Best no BS baby monitor?"
Baby isn't here yet, but we got a basic VTech monitor. There is no screen, just the audio monitors. I wanted something that was basic and didn't have a camera or connect to WiFi. Hoping it works well once baby is here.
