Pottery Barn crib

The Pottery Barn crib is a convertible crib designed to grow with your child, transforming from a crib to a toddler bed and eventually to a full-size bed. It features a sturdy construction and is available in various styles and finishes to match your nursery decor.

Pros (+)

  • Stylish design that enhances nursery decor
  • Converts from crib to toddler bed to full-size bed
  • Good resale value on second-hand markets

Cons (−)

  • High price compared to similar cribs
  • Concerns about customer service and delivery
  • Quality perceived as no better than budget options

Why parents like it

Parents praise the aesthetic appeal and the ability to convert the crib into a toddler bed and full-size bed, making it a long-term investment. Many also appreciate finding good deals on second-hand options through marketplaces.

Common complaints

The most common complaints focus on the high price point, with several parents feeling that it does not offer better quality than cheaper alternatives. Additionally, there are frustrations regarding customer service and delivery issues.

Best for

Parents who prioritize style and want a crib that converts as their child grows. Be prepared to invest significantly, as the price can be a hurdle for many.

Bottom line

The Pottery Barn crib is a beautiful option for those who value design, but many parents question if the price justifies the quality compared to budget-friendly alternatives.

Thread: "Crib: splurge or save?"

in my opinion it is a save item even with multiple kids. You can obviously splurge on a nice crib if you care more about aesthetics (the babyletto is so pretty, and i'm sure your pottery barn one will also be gorgeous), but in terms of utility, I think a cheaper crib does the job just as well. Moreover, I don't know anyone personally who has used a convertible crib beyond toddler bed... Ultimately its about priorities and everyone has different priorities. I chose not to splurge on crib, but did splurge on other items such as stroller.

We bought an expensive Pottery Barn crib and I can say with confidence that it is no better than the more affordable ones I’ve seen elsewhere. Wouldn’t spend that much on a crib again. I got ikea furniture for our daughter’s new room. HOWEVER, I also splurged on a Pottery Barn swivel recliner. It’s the most comfortable piece of furniture in our home and has been through a lot in 2.5 years. I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Pottery barn 4 in 1 cribs will turn into a full bed and last them 18+ years. That’s worth the $1300 investment

I was the same as you, fell in love with a $600 crib. LOVED it. Just put it up for my second baby and the amount of scratches and teeth marks on it made me want to cry. Don’t splurge, I wish I would have just bought a $200 one 😂

We did. It was a Pottery Barn one that also converted to a toddler bed. We also bought the matching dresser and nightstand. We did it because we like Pottery Barn quality and we knew he would be our only and it was in the budget. He transitioned to a full bed at 3 and we gave the crib to my partners niece who just had a baby. We also planned when we bought the furniture to buy a loft bed when he is older in the same finish as the dresser and nightstand so they will last a long time. So really it came down to quality and longevity of the entire set.

We have the divinci Charlie convertible crib for our daughter (18 months). It’s beautiful, sturdy, safe, and looks great still. We almost bought a pottery barn crib, but I’m so glad we didn’t because she chewed the front of it. Just proof you don’t want to spend big money on a fancy crib. The divinci was less than $200. We did then splurge getting the newton matress, which I think is the way to go if you have extra money to spend- cheap crib, really good mattress. We loved it so much I bought the exact same one for baby #2 due in September. We have both of the convertible kits to turn them into a toddler bed, but don’t plan on using them as headboards for a full sized bed and didn’t buy those kits. By the time they’re ready for that, we’ll just invest in an actual bed frame. It is kinda cool they have the option though.

Agree that crib shouldn’t be a splurge item, but the recliner/glider should be! We got a reclining glider for under $300 on Wayfair and it’s okay, but I wish we would’ve splurged on an automatic one. Ours has to be firmly kicked to go in, which is loud with a sleeping baby and was really hard for me for a bit post-c-section.

We have the Kendall from pottery barn, and just wanted to share a few insights with you (keeping in mind that my 6 month old has actually yet to sleep in it because we wound up getting a mini crib for our room when she outgrew the bassinet but we weren’t ready to have her in her own room yet). 1. The shipping took forever! Very frustrating. Their tracking was pretty terrible too, so I had no idea when it was actually arriving, despite it being weeks and weeks late and calling customer service a few times. 2. But the convertible kit when you buy the bed. I didn’t realize I hadn’t u til I received an ad email for the kit, but went to the site and it was out of stock in the right color. Which made me nervous that I wouldn’t have it when I needed it. All ended well, but wouldn’t want to actually need to convert the crib in the future and be stuck waiting for the product to be in stock. 3. I bought the pottery barn mattress, but wish I’d gone for the newton. I have the newton in her mini crib, and it’s just so much better and more comfortable. I absolutely hate that I’m thinking about replacing the never used crib mattress, but I can’t imagine she’d like it or be comfortable after being on the newton for months.

I fell in love with the same crib at pottery barn!! But I also didn’t want to pay $1k for a crib that would probably get chewed on anyway. I ended up buying the saint nursery collection from delta children’s website where you can piece together a crib, mattress, crib sheets, nursing chair AND a dresser for $1,400. (https://www.deltachildren.com/pages/bundles) However, there is also a dupe of the saint set from delta children that is sold at target. Here is the link 😁 (https://www.target.com/p/delta-children-serena-4-in-1-convertible-crib-natural-sandstone/-/A-93145612)

I was going to say this too. We have the Kendall crib and the toddler conversion rail. In total we used it for 3 years. Got the crib for like $250 on Black Friday and I think the toddler rail was around $130 when we bought it later on. Freakin love it. Now using it for second baby and it’s in perfect condition. It’s such great quality. We also bought the matching dresser and the thing is so solid, beautiful and timeless. He’ll probably use it until he’s 18.

Thread: "Pottery Barn Kids SCAM"

Could have written this myself. We waited 15 months for our dining table with West Elm despite not being told it was on back order. We then made the mistake of ordering from PB Kids for our son’s crib and dresser. We ordered when I was 5 months pregnant and our son was 6-7 months old when we got the dresser. I was emailing and calling nearly every day with stress thinking I wouldn’t have a crib for my son when he was born. The crib ended up arriving when he was maybe 5 weeks old and I nearly had an aneurysm with the stress. Customer service was shocking, I think I got a 20% off coupon for my next shop. I assure you there will be *no* next shop. Let me know if there’s a class action, they’re a bunch of absolute low life scammers punting “high end” furniture.

My mother insisted on gifting us a pottery Barn crib. I came with an aesthetic issue, but they assembled it anyway because I was extremely pregnant and handled the claim for a new one. I looked at it and they had assembled it incorrectly. The "this side up" on the mattress support was down. Then they brought the new crib and the new guy assembled it...incorrectly. This guy put the short bolts where the long bolts should have gone. The quality is also very poor. I go to a local woodworker if I want to spend money on furniture. The cost is about the same, but the quality is better and we get it faster.

We scored a pottery barn kids crib on Craigslist for $40! Careful about buying things that are too old, safety updates can be significant. I would not buy a car seat used, if they're in a crash they're supposed to be disposed of. The crib we found was about 4 years old which was just within guidelines since some crib safety regulations were changed 5 years ago (double check timing, I looked it up when we were buying the secondhand furniture.) Definitely do some research if you're buying secondhand bouncers, there've been some big recalls on products that have inclines that babies might sleep in.

Supply chain problems are awful and aren't getting better any time soon. In addition to difficulties at the production facilities in Asia, there are also problems with not enough space to unload container ships when they arrive at ports on other continents, and in North America especially. We were extraordinarily lucky in that most of our furniture, clothes, and accessories were given to us second hand, because we're the last in our extended families and friend groups to have a baby. That said, my mom (who has cancer and is suddenly eager to spend all her money) wanted to give us some of the baby's furniture. We ordered from PB Kids. The thing is, we chose only from products that were listed as in stock. I didn't want to be stuck waiting! We got the Charlie crib, dresser, and nightstand, and the Dream glider/recliner. They actually came earlier than the originally quoted delivery date range, in October rather than November. I chose the upholstery for the chair specifically because it was already in stock in the warehouse. I knew I'd be using the chair right away, and I've enjoyed it even before the baby's arrival. The consultants in the shop have access to a database that tells them what is and isn't currently in the warehouse. If you want to order, I would definitely do it in store rather than online. My mom questioned the upholstery choice because it's a light color and might show stains, but the new fabrics are stain resistant and easy to clean.

I ended up with the Pottery Barn convertible crib and absolutely love it. The quality is amazing, and they put it together for you (literally, they HAVE TO when they deliver it). The price tag was definitely scary, but I kind of looked at it as my son never needs another bed. We bought the conversion kit shortly after my son was born to ensure we have it in case it’s discontinued, and just have it stored in our attic. It’s not like it’ll go bad!

Thread: "Pottery Barn Kids Scam?"

DO NOT BUY PB CRIBS!! I bought the Dawson end panel crib and conversion it. We recently converted it for our toddler. Last week, when my daughter was getting into bed, I heard a cracking sound and told my daughter to get out of bed. My husband helped her out of the bed, when 3 of the 4 legs literally snapped off, and the whole crib fell on top of my husband’s foot. Fortunately, my daughter was ok, but my husband was injured. The legs are secured with literally 2 tiny, thin nails. No other fasteners, not even any wood glue, no bolts. I called Pottery Barn and they said it’s my fault I didn’t previously report the faulty design, and since it’s been over 1 year, there’s nothing they will do about it. They didn’t care it’s a safety risk. They don’t care about the safety of the product to my children. Buyer beware. I have tons of Pottery Barn furniture in my home. I trusted their brand, and deeply regret it now. I will never buy another Pottery Barn piece of furniture ever again. I reported this crib to the U.S. Product Safety Commission. Hopefully, they recall it.
