Newton bassinet
The Newton Bassinet is a larger-than-average bassinet designed to provide a safe sleeping environment for newborns. It features a breathable mattress and a fold-down side for easy access during the night.
Pros (+)
- Larger size accommodates taller babies
- Breathable design enhances safety
- Fold-down side for easy access
Cons (−)
- Limited use as babies grow quickly
- Fold-down side may feel low for some beds
- Not as versatile as other options
Why parents like it
The larger size accommodates taller babies, allowing for longer use. Parents appreciate the breathable design, which enhances safety during sleep.
Common complaints
Some parents mention that the bassinet is only useful for a short period as babies outgrow it quickly. A few also note that the fold-down side may feel low to the ground for some beds.
Parents with taller babies who want a safe sleep space next to their bed. The tradeoff is that it may not be usable for as long as other bassinets.
The Newton Bassinet is a solid choice for parents seeking a breathable and spacious option, but its limited lifespan may be a drawback for some.

Thread: "Bedside Bassinet big enough to last 6 months?"
You generally have to stop using the bassinet once the baby can push up on hands and knees or sit up. For us, this happened before 6 months. So that’s something to think about. And some bassinets say to discontinue once the baby rolls. The Newton is quite large and would probably have been physically large enough for that long if my baby had not been so desperate to sit up and see the world.
Thread: "Looking for a bassinet, something that opens from the side! Or if you guys have any other recommendations I’m open to hear"
We got the [Newton](https://www.newtonbaby.com/products/bassinet-bedside-sleeper) one. Haven’t had my baby yet… but we put it together and it pushes right up to the edge.

> made in Netherlands, assembled in China That's an interesting route.
Thread: "Newton bassinet questions"
We use it as the main bassinet next to our bed and love it! It’s one of the biggest bassinets, so you’ll get more use out of it than the smaller ones
Thread: "Tell me about your bassinet! "
We have the Newton because I really liked the size. We’re hoping to keep baby in it for the full six months, and it seems similar in size to a mini crib compared to some others we looked at. I also like the fully mesh sides. Regardless of how many times I move her to her back, my baby always gets herself onto her side. It’s probably overpriced but it’s working well for us.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
I have it. I purchased it when it was available for the initial run so I’ve had it a couple of months already. Pros: (1) looks great, (2) relatively easy to assemble, (3) large sleep surface, (4) mesh walls are very breathable (except infant access opening, see “cons”), (5) folds up well for long-term storage Cons: (1) requires tools to disassemble for travel so I wouldn’t consider it a travel-friendly bassinet, (2) infant access opening is not breathable and it’s a really large portion of on side - no idea why they did that, (3) only comes with one sheet and when I got it more weren’t available to purchase but I think they will be soon
Thread: "Best bassinet? Struggling to decide!"
We have the newton bassinet and have had 0 issues. We have an old house with uneven floors in some areas, so I even put a level on it when we set it up. Also, in my area it's easy to find secondhand.
Thread: "Newton bassinet questions"
We used it until baby was 4.5 months! And he’s super tall - 90%. It’s larger than your average bassinet so you get more use out of it. Would recommend.
Thread: "Newton bassinet questions"
this^ i had a huge newborn who is now a big 2 month old and if i had purchased a different bassinet we would have probably had to switch to a crib already! we love how easy it is to assemble and wash and the adjustable height if you should want to use it as a bedside sleeper. it is also super light so you can easily move it around the house!
Thread: "Did you use a bassinet or just put the baby in a crib right away?"
I think the main advantage of the bassinet is that it’s small and easy to put in your room while the crib lives in the nursery. I had the snoo but I have mixed feelings about it. My husband would 100% go with the snoo again but I don’t agree with him on that one and would probably chose something more like the Newton bassinet that you can put right next to your bed. Honestly you could start the baby right in the crib
Thread: "FTM: Do we need a bassinet?"
I was given the Halo bassinet from someone getting rid of theirs…it was free so I couldn’t say no. But I hated that thing. It was too high for our bed so I couldn’t even get her out without getting out of bed, which I think defeats the purpose of a bassinet IMO. We then got a pack n play with the top bassinet and that worked fine, but I honestly wish I would’ve went bougie and gotten the Newton bassinet because the height would’ve been perfect and she slept in our room for almost 4.5 months so it would’ve been used a lot. You definitely don’t need a bassinet. I just liked her sleeping next to me.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
I know this is from a few months ago but just in case others are considering buying this bassinet here is my input, as I just purchased one. Perhaps they've changed the design in the last 5 months but the infant access panel, though not the same mesh as the rest of the bassinet, is extremely breathable. It seems to be made of similar material to the cover of the breathable crib mattress and you can put your face right to it and breathe easily. What I am disappointed by are the giant warning labels at the head and foot of the bassinet which are not removable, and are not only ugly but made of a very plastic, very non-breathable material. Other than this I love everything about it.
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
My first baby was born in the EU, and my second will be born in the USA. We had a bassinet very similar to the German version of the Babybay, and I used it the same way. It was a lifesaver! It was also a little bigger than the Babybay, so she was able to stand up in it safely. Now, in the USA, there is no similar product. 😆 You just can’t find an attachable baby bassinet or crib that can be securely attached to the bed and is at the same level. 😆 #endofrant I think next time, we should fly with a baby bassinet! 😆
Thread: "Newton bassinet vs Halo 3.0 bassinet, which one would you choose? Do you have experience with either?"
Honestly, "breathable" mattress is just a marketing term. There is no regulation in what makes it breathable nor are there any studies on it (well there was on study but the mattress they looked at had actual fans in it). Also, the whole thing is negated when you put a sheet on it.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
I've been using it for 6 1/2 months and have been really happy with it! I stuffed my face into the side panel and mattress and I can breathe through them. My baby isn't a big roller it hasn't been a worry, but I think it was a good purchase.
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
So weird that there are different Babybay versions! I got mine in Germany and it doesn’t have either issue you mention. The bottom can be adjusted independently from the hooks to make both mattresses perfectly level, and there’s nothing in between. I used it for both my babies until they started to roll and loved it.
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
I just googled the Newton, and I must say, of those two, I would go for the Babybay. For me the brilliant thing is, that the babybay is completely level with your own bed, and opens up into your bed - baby is basically in your bed, but with protection, and it gives you the opportunity for nursing, while lying down, seriously it saves you so much sleep. But, if you know, you're not going to nurse lying down, or your baby is going to be bottle fed, this, of course, becomes less important. I had to have an extension to the babybay, because our bed had very wide frame, and it didn't seem bulky to me, and it's a nice looking bed, but looking at the Newton, it probably is going to be more bulky.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
Yes. It really bugs me. If you look at the parent Q&A section several people have asked about it and they give this generic response that doesn’t really answer the question and I think is a bit misleading. We personally bought the bassinet for a very limited purpose and it works for us for now but we’ll be returning it. When my daughter was born we had her in the crib and took shifts sleeping on a daybed in her room and doing night feeds. After 3.5 months she started sleeping through the night so I wanted to go back to sleeping all night in my own bed but wanted to be with her until she was 6 months so I bought this bassinet with the intent of then keeping it for a second child we hope to have in the future. She’s strong enough to move her head easily if she wound up over by the infant access opening so I don’t worry too much but I’ll probably be returning using Newton’s 90 day policy because I wouldn’t use this bassinet with a newborn and therefore I don’t think it’s worth it. Such a bummer because it’s nearly perfect. Send me a message if you’d like, I’m happy to send any photos.

Newton has a bassinet!! I would highly recommend Newton. Check them out. It is washable, breathable and easy to travel with. https://www.newtonbaby.com/products/bassinet-bedside-sleeper
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
How was the bassinet?? New sides? Worth it??
Thread: "Bedside bassinet recos"
Just want to add my 2 cents! My baby is 1 month and regularly sleeps 3-5 hours in our newton bassinet. I really wanted the breathable mattress so I refused to get a different bassinet and am super happy with it. We mostly keep it in the living room since someone is always up with baby but have strapped it to the bed. I found it easy to get baby in and out of, both from laying in the bed and standing next to the bassinet. The biggest drawback is the price, obviously. I got mine secondhand off marketplace and bought cheaper spare sheets from Amazon. The ONLY thing I would change is to add wheels to the newton, but we have wood floors so I just put the bassinet on a blanket and drag it lol. All babies are different! If you are really set on it, try it out!
Thread: "Bassinet that your baby actually liked?"
We used the Newton and my son had no issues with it 🙂
Thread: "What bassinet are you guys all thinking"
We got a newton bassinet and I'm glad we did because my baby is huge and would have outgrown a regular bassinet super quickly
Thread: "Looking for a bassinet, something that opens from the side! Or if you guys have any other recommendations I’m open to hear"
I have the newton too and my 2 week old mostly likes it (of course she prefers contact napping but she’s getting better at going down in the bassinet each day! ) I do pull it right up next to the bed and lay my hand on her to comfort her to sleep. The breathable mattress gives me peace of mind and is very easy to clean.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Newton bassinet?"
This is very helpful thank you! Especially good to know about the non-breathable infant opening. Kind of makes the breathable mattress thing much less of a selling point.

KeaBabies universal organic bassinet sheets work! Limited print options but I found them on Amazon and use the Meadow set on my Newton Bassinet https://www.amazon.com/2-Pack-Organic-Bassinet-Sheets-Girls/dp/B0CCV265SZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_13
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
This is really late, but did you have to get extra sheets or mattress pads or anything for the newton or does it come with everything? Do standard bassinet size sheets work - seems like the newtons bigger than standard bassinets.
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
It came with everything! I didn’t get any extra sheets so I guess that was living on the edge a bit (though honestly I think a baby could sleep right on the mattress pad if needed in a pinch). But they do sell a 2-pack of extra sheets on their website if you’d want backups. I think you’re right that standard bassinet sheets wouldn’t fit it.
Thread: "newton bassinet vs. babybay"
Hey I know this is late, but which Newton did you get? The ones I'm seeing that have the drop down side look really low to the ground. Were you able to make it flush to your bed?

If you can, I would definitely try to put the crib in your room since she is already sleeping nicely in it, that will also help you skip the transition from bassinet to crib later on. Then we used the newton bassinet and we didn't have any problems with it, and LO seemed comfy and he slept well in it.

Also looking for Newton bassinet sheet alternatives, did you find any?

Anyone know if they have plans to update the colors? I feel like they've only had grey forever. I want an update

I own a Newton Crib Mattress and love it, they didn’t have a bassinet option for my son at the time that he was born, but if they had it I would’ve bought it. The Newton Bassinet is almost 6 inches larger than the average bassinet which is a big plus.
Thread: "Crib or "Next-to-me" bassinet ?"
My three month old has slept in her bassinet next to me every night. She will transition to her crib in her room….eventually 😂 We got the newton bassinet that has the fold down side so she’s right next to me all the time. It’s large and will fit her up to 6 months. Then, she’ll go in her crib.
Thread: "Bedside Bassinet big enough to last 6 months?"
We loved the Newton Bassinet - very sturdy and large, and fully breathable.
