Mountain Buggy Nano

The Mountain Buggy Nano is a lightweight travel stroller designed for easy portability and compact storage. It features a quick fold mechanism, compatibility with car seats, and is suitable for overhead compartment storage on airplanes.

Pros (+)

  • Lightweight and easy to carry for travel
  • Compact fold fits in overhead compartments
  • Handles well on various terrains

Cons (−)

  • Fold mechanism can be cumbersome
  • May feel large for younger infants
  • Not a one-hand fold

Why parents like it

Many parents appreciate its compact fold and lightweight frame, making it ideal for travel. It handles well on various terrains, from city sidewalks to cobblestone streets.

Common complaints

The fold mechanism is often cited as a drawback, with some parents finding it less intuitive than expected. A few also note that it may feel a bit large for younger infants.

Best for

Parents looking for a lightweight stroller that fits in overhead compartments during travel. The tradeoff is that the fold may not be as convenient as some competitors.

Bottom line

The Mountain Buggy Nano is a great travel stroller for parents who prioritize lightweight design, though the fold mechanism may require some getting used to.

We've really enjoyed our Mountain Buggy Nano as a lightweight travel stroller. The seat lies flat so it's good for naps, plus you can switch between a solid or a mesh backing when the seat is reclined to either allow for better airflow or make it darker (the solid backing just rolls up and clips out of the way when not in use). It also has a full handlebar instead of the two side handles that a lot of travel options have, and the handlebar is a bit low, so I think it'd be fairly easy to handle while baby-wearing. It's also lightweight with a decent sized basket and collapses to carry-on size, so bonus points even if you don't require those features. I got ours for about $280.

I had this debate too. I figured if I wanted to go with a light weight stroller I should fully commit to get the benefits of a small stroller (the minu still seemed quite large/heavy compared to the Joolz Aer). It sucks because I also wanted to use the bassinet and car seat with our travel stroller but thought I may be disappointed with how big the minu still is. Though fwiw, I heard some airlines don't allow strollers in the cabin even if they are carry on size (which very few are, I think the GB Pocket and Mountain Buggy Nano are the only ones).

I’d recommend second hand mountain buggy. Replacement parts for MB are super easy to get. Being able to attach the capsule was useful but only matters for a few short months over the life of the stroller. Mountain buggy is compatible with lots of different brands of capsules, the MB capsule itself (MB Protect AKA Phil&Teds Alpha) is poorly rated for safety though. Our MB Nano has been absolutely thrashed, we’ve taken that thing to Fiji, Switzerland, up the gondola at Ruapehu, and it lives in the footwell of our car now. Not great for newborns though.

Thread: "Best travel stroller for Europe"

I know my in-laws took their Mountain Buggy Nano to Europe but my nephew was closer 2.5 when that trip happened. We took our big strolled to Scotland when my kiddo was about 18m and I can 0/10 recommended the one we took. Lol. We ended up using a really good hiking carrier or our ergo carrier in part because the cobble stone was just too intense for our stroller.

I love my Joolz Aer+, but I also use it as my primary stroller. It gets a lot of use. If you want something less expensive, look into the Mountain Buggy Nano.

I have the Mountain Buggy Nano and like it! Very compact fold and very lightweight. I don’t believe the handlebar is adjustable, however.

Hahaha I feel like that’s going to be me, just using the carrier anyway, at least for the worst areas. But I do feel like a whole 3 week trip with just the carrier might be too much for my out-of-shape body hahaha.

Thread: "Need recommendations for a reliable travel stroller for flying with baby [on]"

Adding another vote for the Mountain Buggy Nano! It’s handled great on uneven NYC sidewalks and cobblestones in Florence and Rome. It’s compact and folds down small enough that we’ve been able to carry it onto 9/10 flights we’ve taken with it. Also easy to fold up and carry onto trains/subways. It comes with a fabric cover/carry case that has a strap so you can carry it over shoulder. The seat lays pretty flat and my first has had some great naps it. It also has a small basket underneath which is great for storing a few items. It’s pricey new - we happened to get one during a clearance sale a few years ago. But if it’s in your price range or you come across a used one, it makes for a great stroller.

Pretty much all of our flights have been Air Canada and then EVA air in Asia.

I've got a mountain buggy nano that I LOVE. LikeI just started using it as a daily driver since it worked so well and was so much smaller then my super bulky one. Only real "gripe" is that the under basket storage is a bit smaller then a full sized stroller but that's about it.

Late to the game, but does the mountain buggy nano fit in an overhead compartment? I’m looking at air Canada and it seems like maybe it’s too big?

Thread: "Travel Stroller Opinion [on]"

I have an older version of the mountain buggy nano as a hand me down. It’s a great stroller but not a one hand fold. If I were to buy a new one, I’d definitely look for an easy fold especially while I’m holding the baby. If you’re travelling by plane a lot, you can look for one that fits in the overhead compartment but they might depend on the airplane. Maybe look for one with a travel bag that has warranties on gate check if it gets damaged?

Seconding the Mountain Buggy Nano! We've taken ours around the world since baby was 5mo. And it's a more affordable price point compared to other travel strollers.

At that age you will need something that fully reclines. We have the Mountain Buggy Nano and like it but it is possibly a little big for a 5 month old. Can you try a few out in a store?

We have a mountain buggy and really can’t fault it - it goes well over all terrain and I can push with one hand. For travel, we tried the Ed and Co Otto but had manufacturing issue (twice!) so now have a Silver Cross which works well. Hiring the capsule was the way to go for us, with a big baby it didn’t last long at all. Despite that, +1 the person who said you really don’t need all the stuff if it doesn’t fit your budget
