Uppababy Minu

💎 Best Premium

The Uppababy Minu is a compact travel stroller designed for convenience and ease of use. It features a one-hand fold, a large storage basket, and is compatible with infant car seats.

Pros (+)

  • Lightweight and easy to carry
  • Compact fold fits in overhead bins
  • Large storage basket for essentials

Cons (−)

  • Seat is exposed when folded
  • Not as compact as some competitors
  • May not handle rough surfaces well

Why parents like it

Parents appreciate the Minu's lightweight design and compact fold, which makes it easy to carry and store. The large storage basket is also a standout feature for those on the go.

Common complaints

A few parents are concerned about the seat being exposed when folded, which may not be ideal for all situations. Additionally, some feel that the Minu doesn't quite measure up to competitors like the Joolz Aer 2.

Best for

Parents looking for a lightweight and easy-to-fold stroller for travel. The tradeoff is that it may not offer the same level of protection as bulkier models.

Bottom line

The Uppababy Minu is a solid choice for travel, but consider its exposed seat and compare it to competitors before buying.

Unfortunately this isn’t a United issue but an all airlines issue. I second the recommendations above…cheap stroller for travel and keep the expensive ones at home.

Butterfly 2 is most upright, best push, priciest stroller and accessories, faux-leather handle, fold is polarizing, canopy sticks out when folded. Fits tallest kids, has leg stirrup bar, stands on its own. Compact but not the smallest fold. 16 lb weight. ~15 lb basket capacity. 2 year warranty, 4 if you register it on their website. Minu V3 has full-grain leather, best materials per dollar, most premium feel, folds bigger than Butterfly, shorter leg room, no rear storage pocket. Least upright when upright, deeper recline than Butterfly, firmer suspension. May not fit overhead consistently. 16.7 lb weight. 20 lb basket capacity. 3 year warranty, 4 if you buy their travel bag. Joolz Aer2 has the best and easiest fold, lightest weight, most travel-friendly, smooth suspension for its size. Good upright seating, full lay down recline, shortest leg dimension of all, smaller basket, some complaints about the zipper for the recline. ~14 lb weight. ~17 lb basket capacity. 10 yr warranty. None is perfect. All are good with their cons. I went with the butterfly as I liked the leg space/tall kid capacity for longevity. If portability is your thing, the joolz. If quality/$$$, Minu.

The top three are probably Bugaboo Butterfly, Joolz Aer, and Uppababy Minu. I would recommend that you go to Nordstrom and try them out if possible, as it’s mostly personal preference between the three.

I have the minu and the vista. Both are great strollers, but the Minu is a fancy compact umbrella stroller. I typically use the minu for travelling and trips out to stores or the mall. For trails and walking outside, I definitely still lug the vista. The wheels are larger and it handles turns much better. I find with the Minu if I turn too quickly I can tip the whole stroller over. The wheels on the minu are much smaller so they don’t really do too well in the snow either, and it’s much lower to the ground so I would stick to indoors in the winter time.

minu v3 has everything you want (lie flat, tall seat, etc). It folds so easily, is overhead approved and the basket is HUGE for a travel stoller. I think it is $100 over your budget, but it is your answer. Perhaps you can find it on fb marketplace for $400?

I love the uppababy minu. It's solid enough to be a standard stroller, while also very easy to fold and put in the car. No issue with aisles etc. I don't know if any travel strollers have adjustable handlebars in all honesty.

Highly recommend the Uppababy Minu. Used it for the very first time on our trip from NY to CA and it worked great. Has still got nice features (UV shade, canopy vent, decent undercarriage storage space) but is very lightweight. I now use it regularly when I'm going out alone with my son because I can carry him and the stroller at the same time (we live in an apartment with no elevator). I can open and close the stroller with one hand while carrying him. My son is only 6.5 mo so I don't know whether it can fit a 40 lb child, you'd have to look up the specs online.

I hate the yoyo. It is small but it is SO annoying to fold and unfold. Impossible to do with baby. Sold it and got the Minu and love it. Not as compact but it’s easy to fold. You might like the GB Pocket.

Honestly I would get the Minu. I had a Babyzen yoyo before the Minu and actually didn’t find it helpful to put it in the overhead bin. Being able to use the car seat or bassinet with it and having a decent basket size was personally worth it to me and it is still very compact when folded up and stands on its own. You can get a padded bag if you’re worried about it getting damaged when gate checked.

We just got one but our baby is now 4 months old. I don’t really think I would have been comfortable putting him in it any younger than he currently is. You can tilt it back a bit, but ehh it just feels like too big of a seat for that size of a baby. Also I was much more comfortable with him facing me, not facing out, when he was smaller.

Bugaboo butterfly! We’ve travelled across the world with it. Folds up so compact, fits in the overhead bin (we’ve never been forced to gate check it, in its travel bag which has the dimensions listed), and the on one handed fold is *chefs kiss*. I wanted to get the Minu V3 but didn’t like how the seat is exposed when it’s folded. I was a bit sad that the Butterfly V2 came out shortly after we got the Butterfly V1 but the new features on the V2 addresses some of the minor inconveniences we had with the V1 like having a pocket at the back!

I think a more equivalent comparison would be the uppababy minu vs babyzen. The Cruz is bigger. We decided on the babyzen after reading this article - https://strolleria.com/blogs/news/uppababy-minu-vs-babyzen-yoyo-stroller-comparison and purposely didn’t want something as big as the Cruz. Edit to add: we are going to use babyzen as everyday stroller but I know so many people that LOVE their Cruz and it’s prob a little more sturdy than the babyzen plus has a bigger under basket. My friends with the Cruz do not like flying with it though and also bought a travel stroller

I had this debate too. I figured if I wanted to go with a light weight stroller I should fully commit to get the benefits of a small stroller (the minu still seemed quite large/heavy compared to the Joolz Aer). It sucks because I also wanted to use the bassinet and car seat with our travel stroller but thought I may be disappointed with how big the minu still is. Though fwiw, I heard some airlines don't allow strollers in the cabin even if they are carry on size (which very few are, I think the GB Pocket and Mountain Buggy Nano are the only ones).

I would say check out Joolz Aer and uppababy minu while they are on sale. Joolz Aer is on sale for 25% and minu was on sale for 15% in store only. I decided to go with joolz aer, but if you are looking for something less expensive than i think ergobaby metro + is great as well. I think joolz aer is only sold by one retailer in Canada and Minu was not on sale for everywhere though. ergobaby gives 15% coupon when you sign up which could be used for their stroller. I tried Joolz Aer in store and really liked high light it is, so went with that.

The only stroller that I know fits in the overhead bin is the Babyzen Yoyo. I think there's at least one other stroller on the market that fits, but I don't remember which one, and most of the strollers you listed would need to be gate checked. Despite that, I'm inclined to recommend the Minu. We have it and use it as our full-time stroller, and it's great. I haven't traveled with it, but I live in an old American city, and it rolls pretty smoothly over uneven brick sidewalks. I'm happy to answer questions about it if you have them.

We went with the Minu. The Butterfly may be slightly better performance wise but Bugaboo has a notorious reputation for bad customer service (our local fancy $$$ baby store stopped carrying them because of it). People are also very turned off by how they are handling their current high chair recall. The company just rubs me the wrong way. I think the Minu is easy to fold and carry. I also liked that it reclines super far, so I could start using it with my then 3 month old. I bought it before the price hike and I would probably still rebuy it at the current price if it were like stolen or something.

I love my Uppababy Minu. I have a Cruz and a BOB and I never use them now that I have the Minu. I would encourage you to go to a store and try out the smaller strollers - the GB Pockit stroller is another small travel stroller and it felt super flimsy when pushing, Babyzen Yoyo feels very top heavy and awkward when turning imo. I would go see how it feels for you folding/unfolding/lifting. I have never liked a stroller as much as my Minu!

I'm not sure if the butterfly can be used from birth - I think it may be 6 months and up. You'll need one that lays flat or has a bassinet - Joolz Aer and UPPAbaby Minu both have bassinets. You could use the travel strollers as everyday strollers depending on your needs. I have a full sized and travel and definitely use my travel stroller more.

+1 for the Minu V3. We used it since baby was 8 weeks. And, it has been on a dozen flights in less than 6 months. Baby loves it and so do we. Easy fold, easy carry, fits overhead and on top of a carry on suitcase. Basket is a decent size. It also has a nearly flat recline and a massive canopy. Also - 10 out of these 12 flights I was flying alone with baby and it was an absolutely incredible stroller to have - easy fold and unfold and very smooth.

Bugaboo butterfly is for sure better than the minu, yoyo, nano, etc. It can be folded with one hand, has the best canopy and basket, smooth push and maneuvering, and more.
