Motorola VM36XL

The Motorola VM36XL is a video baby monitor featuring a 5-inch display and a non-WiFi connection for enhanced security. It includes infrared night vision and two-way audio, allowing parents to monitor their baby without the risk of hacking.

Pros (+)

  • Non-WiFi design enhances security against hacking
  • Clear video quality, even in low light
  • Two-way audio allows for easy communication

Cons (−)

  • Battery struggles to hold a charge during naps
  • Build quality may feel less durable than competitors
  • Limited features compared to premium models

Why parents like it

Many parents praise the non-WiFi design, which alleviates concerns about hacking. The video quality is noted as clear, providing peace of mind during nighttime checks.

Common complaints

A significant concern is the battery life, with some parents stating it cannot last through a short nap without being plugged in. Additionally, a few parents mention that the monitor's build quality feels lacking compared to other brands.

Best for

Parents looking for a secure, non-WiFi monitor for peace of mind. However, the tradeoff is the battery life, which may require frequent charging.

Bottom line

The Motorola VM36XL offers a secure, non-WiFi monitoring option, but be prepared for potential battery life issues that could impact usability.

Thread: "Wi-Fi Baby Monitors"

I thought the same as you and then one day I was breastfeeding and the angle of the camera turned to point at me while I was sitting there, no one controlling it. From that day I was done. There’s nothing subpar about our non wifi monitor so we’ve just used that the past 3 years

This is why we opted for a motorola unit that has no wifi connection or an app. Scary stuff indeed.

Thread: "Anyone have a baby monitor they love?"

Know you said you’re not sold on the Nanit but it’s what we have and love it. Unfortunately dealing with a sick 4 month old and the breathing monitor is clutch. We have a nonwifi Motorola for travel purposes

Thread: "What does the evidence say about baby monitors?"

Oh yeah, we covered the light on the baby's end, but I'm referring to the video monitor light, the screen on the handheld component. We finally put a few layers of yellow transparent vinyl on the screen to at least keep from being blasted with blue light whenever we check it. It's still sooo bright, but at least it's less blue.

Mine does this too! I bought it on Black Friday and it is such a piece of crap. It can’t hold a charge through a 45 minute nap without being plugged in.

Thread: "Help with choosing a Baby Monitor/ Camera, advice and regrets"

I bought the Babysense HD S2 and it’s fab, super simple, love it. Then I saw my friend’s CuboAI video of her boy rolling in the night and thought wow I need something for overnight footage (i.e. to watch the replay of what they’ve been up to while I’m asleep) and bought the Motorola VM44. Unfortunately it only records 60seconds of video at a time (and only if my phone is unlocked, with the app open). I eventually just buckled and bought the Cubo and I love it. It’s in my room so I just use it overnight and continue to use the babysense in other rooms. If you don’t want a WiFi model and don’t want long recordings etc I totally recommend the babysense!

A simple camera with a monitor is all you need. All the vitals/movement monitoring, notifications, and remote smartphone viewing capabilities are needless fluff. This works great: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/motorola-vm36xl-5-video-baby-monitor-white/6477918.p?skuId=6477918

Thread: "Video vs Audio-Only Baby Monitor"

I like the video monitor (no wifi) because it helps with my anxiety. I’ve got a 4 year old and another due in the next month so we have a setup with two monitors. The video helps to keep an eye on the 4 year old who likes to get out of bed. Also great for when we need to but the 4 year old on time out (usually 1-5 minutes) and make sure he is safe-he tried to jump off his bed a couple times and smash toys at the door 😅

We bought a video monitor. I can check on baby anytime and anywhere and without the risk of waking her up fully or having to turn her nursery lights at night.

My Amazon history tells me it's the Anker PowerCore 15600 mAh and we have a Motorola VM50G camera.
