In my opinion, no you should not splurge on a mamaroo. One of my kids loved it, the other hated it. As with most baby swings/bouncers, there's no guarantee your baby will enjoy being in it. You can likely find a wide range of secondhand swings on Facebook marketplace if you decide to give one a try, but that way you haven't spent a ton of money on it.

I would keep it to see if your baby likes it. My cousins baby sits in his all the time. If that’s the only thing your baby will sit in without crying you’ll be glad you kept it. Buy the bouncer as well anyway and move it around. If your baby doesn’t like it then get rid of it. I wouldn’t be worried about it unless you have zero free space in your house. I don’t understand being mad about the gift though, I wish my FIL was that nice 😅

I kept researching it like crazy, and it just flows with TONS of positive reviews! My friend is a professional nanny and swears by it. She says every baby she's ever babysat that's had a Mamaroo, it was like magic getting the baby to be happy, quiet, and content out of arms.

We also have the Fisher Price Snug a Bunny! I started with a Momaroo (luckily bought used) that she just doesn't like. The Snug a Bunny has a bit more of a jerky/momentum motion that she really likes, you can switch from head/toe to side/side. It plays lullabyes and the BEST part is that the mobile thing spins around. She loves it!!!

My baby hates hers. She likes the maxi Cosi rocker a lot more. Home girl likes the basic not techy stuff apparently

I have both and my daughter much prefers the rock and play. I was able to control the rocking speed, sounds, vibration, etc. from my phone and it was literally the only place she would sleep because she had to be on an incline due to reflux. My husband and I joked that we wanted to bronze it afterwards because it saved us from many sleepless days / nights. I wish we didn’t spend the money on the mamaroo as we could have survived without it.

That is awesome! I really really wish we had a buy buy baby near us!! My mom offered to buy us a mamaroo for our first and I said no that's silly. It's so expensive and she had already bought basically everything we needed. At the time my daughter was already almost out of the age where she would have used it. Now with my second, I'm really wishing I'd let her buy it. Ha! Since we don't need much the second time around, maybe I'll splurge and buy it!

Are you upset because he spent more money than you expected? I don’t get why you’re bothered by this If the baby likes it, great. If not, no harm done.

This is a picture of my two daughters in a baby swing commonly used in South Asia, called a "ghodiyu". We got this when the eldest was about a month and a half old. We had been using a mamaroo, but needed a non-electric, portable swing to accommodate our needs at the time. At the time I mentioned how it would be cool if we could use a swing like the Ojibwa use, which is basically a hammock for babies. This led to my wife finding this used ghodiyu online. It cost us $60 and is basically a baby hammock. It took a bit of training to get her used to it, but we never looked back after that. It puts them to sleep quickly. It is great outside in the heat because the design creates air flow. It is collapsible (though not a great design). It is sturdy enough that it supports older children. As I said, we have a mommaroo - the Cadillac of baby swings - but this is the swing we actually use. My 3 month old daughter loved her second hand MamaRoo so much we got a second used one for the lower level. We even got a second hand MamaRoo bassinet.

My kid tolerated a mamaroo but loved the traditional swing. You never know what your baby will like until they are here. Personally I think the mamaroo is too gentle. My baby liked the more aggressive movement on the swing. You could always return it and then purchase a similar thing if your baby decides the mamaroo isn’t their favorite.

We were silly and bought a brand new one with our first and he hated it, so we got a $60 swing that rocked side to side and he loved it. Sold that one as we didn’t think we would have another child. We were gifted a used one with our second child and he also screamed and hated it, so back to the cheap swing he went.

We were gifted ours used and it’s holding up very well! It seems to be fairly hit or miss with babies so I would ask the people selling why they’re selling (if you’re going with buying options such as Facebook marketplace.) if they say their baby outgrew it, perhaps it’s nearing the end of its life. But if they say their baby didn’t like it, chances are it was used very often!

I would do like the others said and keep it and see which one baby prefers. I was thinking about the mommaroo and when I read the reviews I went with a cheaper swing. A lot of moms say their babies hated it but preferred graco or other cheaper brands. If it turns out baby prefers one over the other you can always sell the less used one or donate it.

We were given ours as a hand me down from someone who originally also received it as a hand me down, so ours is the 3rd baby to use it. It’s a little dinged up on the base but since you can wash the seat it’s fine for my baby 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rock and Play all the way. The Mamaroo sucks. It’s a good idea in theory, but never worked for my first at least. And as another poster said, make sure you get the automatic rocker for the RNP.

Rock n Play is great, but it didn’t take the place of a swing for us. We needed both. I never tried the mamaroo, but my son hated the rockaroo and we replaced it with the Fisher Price snugapuppy swing, which we got a ton of use out of.

This was my kid with the mamaroo! Didn’t calm her down at all but worked so well for constipation.

We like the fisher price puppy swing… not too expensive but in the $100 range if I remember right. Someone I know that has the mamaroo their baby didn’t really like it. I think a traditional swing with music, mobile etc is more likely to be liked

This has been my approach for any "depends on the kid" items that are more costly. Mamaroo, Baby bjorm, Snoo - all bought secondhand and can resell for same or close to same price I bought it for.

So I read your post and did a little google search to see what it was because I hadn't heard of it. OMG it looks so great! I wish they had it in adult size. So I did a check to see how much it retails here in New Zealand. $600 NZD which is over $500 USD!!!!! Haha You definitely got a good deal :)

YES, YES, YES, YES KEEP IT!!!!!! We had an older generation but there were many newborn days when this was the ONLY thing that got our baby to sleep. It didn't last long but omg I don't think we would've survived the first month without our MamaRoo

A friend let me try theirs with both of my kids and they both disliked it. My older one loved an inexpensive, run of the mill swing. My younger liked the even more basic bouncy chair. I would say return the MamaRoo and use the money to buy a used swing.

Initially registered for the Munchkin swing, our baby loved it. But it broke after a week or 2. So we ended up getting the MamaRoo and honestly he never was content very long in it. My mom bought us the typical style swing by Graco or Fisher Price, no frills and he loves it! So IMO, not worth it, but your baby may love it!

buy dat! you can machine wash the fabric or buy a replacement. Even if you're baby doesn't like it you could definitely resell it in the same price neighborhood.

I and literally every other person I know use the sleep in these things, much simpler ones though haha, it's nice to see that your kids like them too!

We bought a mammaroo second hand and it was amazing for the first few months for 3 kid. The option for the different speeds/movements etc were a godsend when my kids would need that constant rocking.

Yeah, I have both and I think the mamaroo is really over-rated. It looks cooler but a cheaper swing would work better. We used the rock n play (auto rocker) way more. I don't even know if I'll get the mamaroo out this time around, unless nothing else works.

I'll chime in and say we had a (borrowed) mamaroo and didn't have a rock n play but the mamaroo definitely wasn't convenient or portable. It also wasn't hugely helpful so we were glad we didn't buy it ourselves. A real swinging swing was a hit and we used a cheap bouncy chair to lug around the house

Lol good luck getting work done. We have the mamaroo. Second kid never really liked it. I always thought it was overpriced to be honest. We used a rock n play for short periods of downtime. They are now banned I believe. We would literally never leave the room or take a nap with the baby in there but it was good to put the baby in front of you while working in a laptop or watching a show.

You definitely don’t! Our kiddo was one of the ones who didn’t care for the Mamaroo, but he loved the classic swing and bouncer. We got rid of our bouncer so I was actually considering replacing our swing with this one (or another very similar) because the 2 in 1 feature seemed really nice.

Friend lent hers to me. Baby hated it. 5/6 babies who have used hers haven’t liked it. Very anecdotal but I find it funny.

I would keep it until baby is here and you know what they prefer. I've heard from so many mom's that they regretted purchasing the Mamaroo because their baby did not like it. Same with many swing options, baby's are picky. I purchased one swing and have a different one secondhand that swings in different positions just in case the baby doesn't like the first option.

We actually have both. We got the Graco one with our first and we were gifted a Mamaroo with our second. Our oldest wanted nothing to do with the swing, but our daughter really liked both. I think it just depends on the baby.

I bought one second hand before my little one was born. I’m glad I didn’t buy one new, as my baby didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought he would. He’s tolerate it for a few minutes and then cry. He sounds similar to yours and would much rather be held.

Both of my babies have *hated* the Mamaroo. I mean, screamed bloody murder. I think the movement is still too mechanical for them. And I didn't like it because it's so bulky and impossible to move around as needed. I used my vibrating bouncy chair more than anything else because of how easily moved it was (I like having my newborn in the same room as me) and the babies were always comfortable in it as well. The original fabric on my Mamaroo isn't removable, but mine is the first version so they might have changed that in the last 4 years. I bought a cover for it that was washable (not that we ever got to use it long enough to need to wash it).

Did he give you a gift receipt to return it? What if you returned it, and bought a second hand one of the same style. I grabbed a secondhand one off Marketplace, used it for 4 months then sold it for the same price I paid. That way if/when he does see it in the house he won’t even know it wasn’t the original one he got you and you can spend the remainder on stuff you need.

I think it’s overrated but your baby may love it. You could also sell it on Facebook or something and use the money to get what you were hoping for.

My friend gave me one, imo it’s a great product but way too expensive. That said, my baby loves it and uses all the time. I have it on my dining room table (my table very large and sturdy) so she can watch me cook and eat dinner with us. She’s 2 months so idk how long we will use it for, but so far so good. However, I would have never spent my own money on it. I have a little vibrating/bouncy chair in my room and she loves that too at it was like $40. You can always see the mamaroo on offerup or FB marketplace after you are done with it and make money.
