In my opinion, no you should not splurge on a mamaroo. One of my kids loved it, the other hated it. As with most baby swings/bouncers, there's no guarantee your baby will enjoy being in it. You can likely find a wide range of secondhand swings on Facebook marketplace if you decide to give one a try, but that way you haven't spent a ton of money on it.

Both my kids hated multiple swings including the Mamaroo. Don’t waste your money. Find a one for free on your local Buy Nothing group. They are given away all the time. Also, as another commenter said, swings are meant for only short term bursts. You are better off doing floor time to ensure proper muscle tone development.

My husband is a tech nerd, so the instant he saw the Mamaroo, all other baby swings immediately got deleted from our registry. It's definitely cool. I love the way it's built, and compact size is super convenient. The different motions are great, and I love how easy it is to adjust the incline. And my baby LOVES the mobile. But I don't really have any other swings to compare it to, since this is our first baby and our first swing. Some of the bad reviews I've *personally* read are essentially, "My baby hated it, so we never used it." While I'm sure this is possible in some cases, I heard a good tip before my daughter was born: Don't put an upset baby in a swing or chair. Calm the baby down first, and then put them in the swing. Otherwise I think it becomes a negative association thing after a while. When my baby isn't in the mood to be set down, it doesn't matter what type of swing or chair you give her. So, while it may not be a foolproof philosophy, I think it creates an ideal environment to help your baby like a swing as much as possible. No matter what kind of swing you get, there's always a slight chance your baby won't want to use it. Our Mamaroo stays in our TV room, and I love slipping my daughter into it once she's sound asleep in my arms. The seat is really easy to remove and machine wash, which I discovered when she had a leaky diaper yesterday. TL;DR: Have the Mamaroo for my 3-month old, and we love it so far!

My baby liked the Mamaroo but i have giant babies and she quickly outgrew it. It was fabulous during the newborn phase though! I never used the Bluetooth feature and I would turn it on with my toe before setting her down, lol. You can find used ones on Marketplace and eBay though! Every kid is different though! - My son hated the Mamaroo and activity centers and preferred the baby bjorn bouncer and baby carriers. - My daughter hates the baby bjorn bouncer and carriers. She prefers to be on the ground under an activity gym. She liked the Mamaroo too. The best money spent on both of them was the SNOO (I rented it because it’s $$$), and they both slept great in it!

I bought mine using my BBB %20 off coupon. We also have a conventional swing. Hands down the Mamaroo is my favorite. It's small; the white noise options are built in; it has significantly variable settings compared to a conventional swing, so the odds of your child liking at least one of the movements and speeds is much higher than with a normal swing; it is small and portable. I would definitely buy it again, but I would buy it before the baby was born and put her in it immediately. I think we bought ours somewhere between 8 and 10 weeks. We would have gotten more use out of it if we'd bought it at the beginning. My baby is almost 6 months, and we still use it occasionally but not nearly as often as we did early on. I think it gets such polarizing opinions simply because it is so expensive. People that would otherwise leave a 3 star review end up leaving 1 star reviews because even though it was sort of useful and good, they expected it to be SUPER awesome all the time given the price. So it is an item that people either can't live without or wish they hadn't bought just because of the price.

My daughter hated it. She got in it maybe 3 times and not once did it ever put her to sleep. She looked afraid half the time and otherwise she looked like she thought it was some kind of fair ride. A friend of mine also had one for her son and he didn't like it either. I only paid $75 for mine and I was super happy I didn't buy it brand new. We had a snugabunny swing and my daughter loved it but it takes up a lot of room. I kept the mamaroo incase baby #2 likes it but I would never pay full price to buy one.

I would keep it to see if your baby likes it. My cousins baby sits in his all the time. If that’s the only thing your baby will sit in without crying you’ll be glad you kept it. Buy the bouncer as well anyway and move it around. If your baby doesn’t like it then get rid of it. I wouldn’t be worried about it unless you have zero free space in your house. I don’t understand being mad about the gift though, I wish my FIL was that nice 😅

Another vote for second-hand! My baby liked it well enough, but we set her down it in without using any of the features just as often as with them (we actually never used the sound....). I did really like how adjustable it was though and that baby was usually sitting up high enough that she could still see around the room when lying in it. I would have never paid full price for new though.

I kept researching it like crazy, and it just flows with TONS of positive reviews! My friend is a professional nanny and swears by it. She says every baby she's ever babysat that's had a Mamaroo, it was like magic getting the baby to be happy, quiet, and content out of arms.

We bought one when our son was 2-3 weeks old and he didn't care for it. With something like that, if it works, it's glorious and worth every penny and if it doesn't, then Buy Buy Baby had a 90 day return policy. So check that out, this was a year and a half ago, but I doubt it's changed. We kept a thick blanket or cloth diaper between him and the Mamaroo so he didn't spit up on it or poop on it before we knew we were keeping it. I have another friend who just got one and her 5 week old loves it. Pro tip for pre-Dad: cloth diapers make the best burp clothes.

We also have the Fisher Price Snug a Bunny! I started with a Momaroo (luckily bought used) that she just doesn't like. The Snug a Bunny has a bit more of a jerky/momentum motion that she really likes, you can switch from head/toe to side/side. It plays lullabyes and the BEST part is that the mobile thing spins around. She loves it!!!

I have both and my daughter much prefers the rock and play. I was able to control the rocking speed, sounds, vibration, etc. from my phone and it was literally the only place she would sleep because she had to be on an incline due to reflux. My husband and I joked that we wanted to bronze it afterwards because it saved us from many sleepless days / nights. I wish we didn’t spend the money on the mamaroo as we could have survived without it.

We got this as a gift, as we were adamant we didn't want to spend so much money on something like that. At first, I was against it because I thought it would replace me holding my baby. Oh man, what a life saver! It's great for when my back is hurting and she's being fussy. Love the sounds thats come with it too. Thank only thing that bothers me is that the mobild/pillow toys don't move on their own! Other than that, great product!

This is a picture of my two daughters in a baby swing commonly used in South Asia, called a "ghodiyu". We got this when the eldest was about a month and a half old. We had been using a mamaroo, but needed a non-electric, portable swing to accommodate our needs at the time. At the time I mentioned how it would be cool if we could use a swing like the Ojibwa use, which is basically a hammock for babies. This led to my wife finding this used ghodiyu online. It cost us $60 and is basically a baby hammock. It took a bit of training to get her used to it, but we never looked back after that. It puts them to sleep quickly. It is great outside in the heat because the design creates air flow. It is collapsible (though not a great design). It is sturdy enough that it supports older children. As I said, we have a mommaroo - the Cadillac of baby swings - but this is the swing we actually use. I have a velcro baby who has reflux and also craves constant movement. I feel like the Mamaroo was sent down special for us from heaven. I wish we had bought it before she was born but for the past few months it is the only way she will sleep besides on me. LOOOOOVE IT. Worth every penny for us.

This is so funny to me how people don’t listen lol that would also drive me nuts. If you’ve gotten to 10 weeks…I feel like you would’ve known if you needed a swing by now lol We got a couple different swings we tried out early on ONLY because we got them free from BuyNothing and a hand me down. We barely used the one and didn’t even assemble the other. We maybe used the mamaroo 10 times, mostly in the 6-8 week fussy period but sounds like you’re past that. My baby and I much prefer having her in a body carrier, occasional bouncer use, and boppy time. You’re also not far away from baby being able to sit up and/or do more extended tummy time. I leave my baby on a baby safe mat on the floor with toys when I need to step away for a minute. I much prefer her getting to wiggle and use her body and develop skills versus be in a swing. But we also have a pretty chill baby 🤷‍♀️

My kid tolerated a mamaroo but loved the traditional swing. You never know what your baby will like until they are here. Personally I think the mamaroo is too gentle. My baby liked the more aggressive movement on the swing. You could always return it and then purchase a similar thing if your baby decides the mamaroo isn’t their favorite.

That is awesome! I really really wish we had a buy buy baby near us!! My mom offered to buy us a mamaroo for our first and I said no that's silly. It's so expensive and she had already bought basically everything we needed. At the time my daughter was already almost out of the age where she would have used it. Now with my second, I'm really wishing I'd let her buy it. Ha! Since we don't need much the second time around, maybe I'll splurge and buy it!

I’m going to go against the grain and say that I loved our MamaRoo. I looked at other swings and they all seemed so big and bulky, but the MamaRoo fit in our bathroom so I could park my daughter in it while I showered.

I’m the odd one out in the thread but my son LOVED his mamaroo and hated any other swing (and we tried them all!) He was only content in the mamaroo, we used it until he outgrew the weight limit. We plan on using it again for our new baby coming in 2 weeks.

We got the mamaroo also thinking it's smaller and many moms seem to like it. The movement does nothing for my lo. wish I'd tried the fisher price swing. Now my lo loves the mamaroo regardless of whether I turn it on or not because he likes looking at the mobile. so it's not totally worthless. I believe in the happiest baby on the block he recommends actual swings.

Mamaroo was a total waste of money. The seats an awkward shape so my sons chin was always pressed into his chest, it's so freaking slow that he could never be rocked to sleep, and you can hear the gears grinding. Not worth the money for us. Definitely getting a snuggabunny next time around.

My son rathers being on the floor x1000 more than any baby parkings. The Mamaroo and Snuggle me were completely useless for him... So a good activity mat was worth it!

Just remember that not all babies will like the mamaroo. I got one for my first born and she hated it. So, I sold it. My second one comes along and of course, he loves it. I ended up borrowing one.

You can grab a mamaroo or rockaroo for under $200 on marketplace. When your baby outgrows it you can resell it for the same price you paid lol.

We were gifted ours used and it’s holding up very well! It seems to be fairly hit or miss with babies so I would ask the people selling why they’re selling (if you’re going with buying options such as Facebook marketplace.) if they say their baby outgrew it, perhaps it’s nearing the end of its life. But if they say their baby didn’t like it, chances are it was used very often!

I would do like the others said and keep it and see which one baby prefers. I was thinking about the mommaroo and when I read the reviews I went with a cheaper swing. A lot of moms say their babies hated it but preferred graco or other cheaper brands. If it turns out baby prefers one over the other you can always sell the less used one or donate it.

I bought mine used for $75 on Facebook marketplace. I think it was worth it at that price. Definitely not at full price. All of the cloth is removable and washable. My son used it for 8 weeks but was never super interested in it. My son is also quite big so he was starting to grow out of it by then. It’s nice as an extra option for somewhere else to put him but he absolutely preferred the Bjorn bouncer. If you get a used one, you can always try to sell it again after.

We were silly and bought a brand new one with our first and he hated it, so we got a $60 swing that rocked side to side and he loved it. Sold that one as we didn’t think we would have another child. We were gifted a used one with our second child and he also screamed and hated it, so back to the cheap swing he went.

I hear ya on that! After they put him in that in the NICU he refused his bouncer we had brought up there. Now that we've been home he cries in his swing that we were borrowing from a friends. When I found this on craigslist I got so excited! He's quite happy in it.

We, too, have the Snugabunny, and it is a major hit. However, I registered for it sight-unseen and was definitely shocked by how large a footprint it takes up. It works in our bedroom but no way will it fit in our family room (or really anywhere downstairs). I would definitely look hard for a used Mamaroo if I were doing this over again, if only to have a second swing downstairs!

We were given ours as a hand me down from someone who originally also received it as a hand me down, so ours is the 3rd baby to use it. It’s a little dinged up on the base but since you can wash the seat it’s fine for my baby 🤷🏼‍♀️

We bought one after a loooong night when we were sleep deprived and delirious. Well, we tried for a solid 2 weeks to get my LO to like it but she absolutely hated it. I think it was the side to side motion. We returned it and got a Graco swing that went front to back for half the price. It is the best. My LO is almost 5 months and takes all of her naps in the swing. It too has the built in white noise, vibration, calming sounds, and various speeds so it's not like we are missing out on the extras of the mamaroo. Like another poster said, if it works it works... if it doesn't it doesn't it doesn't. Babies are funny creatures so my best suggest to you is to buy it when your baby is born and try it out. If he or she doesn't like it then return it and try something else!

I had a snugabunny and a mamaroo for #1, and the mamaroo was worthless for us. We kept it for impending #2, but I'm betting the snugabunny will win out again. It's just such a strong swing!

Things like that are ALWAYS hit or miss. Some babies love them, some don’t like them at all. You wouldn’t know if it’s worth it to you until you get the baby in it. I don’t see a problem with keeping it and trying it out, or returning it for what you really wanted. Not a big deal either way!

Sometimes it’s not about the price its what works and what doesn’t. I’m sure if you talked with your FIL he would most likely understand since I’m sure wants to give you a gift you can use. Rock and Play all the way. The Mamaroo sucks. It’s a good idea in theory, but never worked for my first at least. And as another poster said, make sure you get the automatic rocker for the RNP.

Rock n Play is great, but it didn’t take the place of a swing for us. We needed both. I never tried the mamaroo, but my son hated the rockaroo and we replaced it with the Fisher Price snugapuppy swing, which we got a ton of use out of.
