I'm happy to be proven wrong if someone has evidence to the contrary, but I haven't found any research supporting your friend's claim. There are a few studies looking at brain injury related to incorrect[(such as this one) ](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1719118/) use of bouncer chairs leading to a harmful fall, but that doesn't seem like your case: your child was strapped in, supervised and bring carefully rocked. There is [an article](https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(72)90261-9/fulltext) from 1972 describing issues related to bouncers but I honestly think neither bouncers nor development science are the same as they were then. Honestly, kids bounce around in their mom's belly for nine months, then they are carried around in strollers or carriers all the time, rocked to sleep. If we are not talking actual SHAKING I don't think a bouncer should vigorous enough movement for it to be a concern. To me it sounds like your friend is paying to not need to care about this problem and validating her decisions by pushing them into you. You will experience that a lot as a parent.

Same! When baby hadn’t pooped for a bit, we’d be like ok, time for the poop chair! Worked every time. We started putting like a quarter of a pee pad where his butt goes so we don’t have to clean the bouncer each time lol

I got the alpine deluxe bouncer, and I like it just as much! I’ve tried the baby bjorn bouncer at a friend’s house and didn’t see that much of a difference.

My baby hated it initially but he was a preemie and I honestly think he was just too small for it. My guy is 4 months now and loves it. I do too as he can be alone while I can shower, clean, etc. it is also magic for making them poop I have no idea how 😂

i use mine so much that the price is worth it to me. the slip is easy to clean/throw in the wash. i put her in it when we’re eating dinner, im washing dishes, etc. i’m not sure how other comparable ones hold up (maybe someone can speak on that) but i got mine on prime day plus my registry discount.

I’ve had bouncers at varying price points for my two kids. Baby bjorn is my hands down favorite baby item. What I think sets it (and the dupes designed like it) apart is that it goes from a really gentle, comfortable resting place to a self-bouncer with a great range of motion as baby grows up. Once they start trulybwiggling they learn to bounce and soothe themselves and the spring design amplifies that motion in a soothing way. This makes it fantastic from birth to whenever they age out (lasted up until both my babies walked). It also folds flat for storage or travel and is super easy to wash. I like that it doesn’t have any clips that could pinch baby skin or straps that require adjusting as they grow. It’s just really well designed.

Did that this morning with my 3 month old. Wanted to go run errands but knew she hadn’t pooped yet. Put her in bjorn for about 15 min and voila ! Avoided a road deuce.

We have a baby bjorn and a cheap $30 one from fisher price or something (both hand me downs). Function is identical. I actually think baby prefers cheap one because of toy bar and it seems like she is able to bounce it herself more easily. Baby bjorn is definitely more aesthetically pleasing for adults and folds down nicely

They pop up frequently on Marketplace. I got one for $50 with the attached rattler toy thing. You can pop the cover off and put it in the washing machine, just put it back on the bouncer while it's still damp from the machine and let it dry in place.

If she was on the edge between diaper sizes, I always made sure she was in the bigger size before we put her in the bouncer. It was magic

It’s only recommended 60-90 minutes a day. More than that is great but that’s the recommendation.

I’ve had a few bouncers and the baby Bjorn was the best. I got it for $70 second hand and sold it again for the same price, I would keep looking for a second hand one.

I bought mine used and honestly feel we would have been fine with any comparable bouncer. My daughter tolerates it. It’s not a magical product in terms of resolving gas/poops like I’ve seen claimed all over Reddit. Not at all getting why people are so specifically hyped about the Bjorn.. besides the obvious obsession over Scandinavian baby brands lol

True!! My baby HATED her Baby Bjorn bouncer. Back when I was pregnant and shopping, we were too excited to buy that bouncer. Every momfluencer I followed RAVED about it and kept saying that they couldn't imagine life without it. Well, we decided to splurge on that bouncer and that wooden bouncer toy from BabyBjorn. Well, baby comes along; decides she wants nothing to do with that bouncer. She just wanted to be held or put on her tummy time mat. Ended up selling that bouncer for half the price.

I used to keep it in my downstairs bathroom. I go potty, baby goes potty. Diaper change and hand wash, on our way.

So full disclosure I never would have bought one myself at that price point but we got randomly gifted one from a coworker when we had our baby (brand new too, like what?!) we were so grateful and also shocked haha. I have to say, it has been amazing. My colicky reflux baby was the most relaxed ever in that thing, and it also made her poop (blessing and a curse, especially for those riiight up the back ones), it’s easy to wash, easy to store, sleek and babies can bounce themselves in it which mine absolutely loved. Now my baby is a toddler and it’s still her favourite chair in the older kids setting, she loves bouncing in it and rocking all her soft toys in it. We will have to put it away soon though as she’s about to exceed the weight limit but it has served us well. We haven’t kept many things as we’re not sure when or if we’ll have another, but we are keeping the baby bjorn bouncer for sure. I’m aware I sound like a straight up advertisement right now and like I say I think the price point is insane, I’m sure there are other bouncers that are as good for much less, but we loveeee ours.

With our second and third kids, we were lucky to have been given a second babybjorn bouncer as a hand me down, so we could just toss the one that was pooped into the wash after rinsing it and never be without the magical poop chair. (Being a parent has made me deeply wish that we had a sink in our laundry room.)

Yes, I got a couple of cheaper ones (fisher price etc) free and baby didn't care for them at all, just cried. Got a baby bjorn and she's crazy about it and I can finally take a shower. I wish it was just hype, so expensive.

Not safe for sleep but great for a safe place to put baby while you use the restroom, cook something, shower, etc. we called ours the Poop Chair bc every time we put our son in it, he would poop shortly after bc of the position it puts baby in. So…also good if you have a constipated baby lol

My husband and I asked ourselves the same thing. We got a cheaper one on Amazon and it did not support our daughters head properly in the early months. Around month 2 we got a baby bjorn bouncer and wished we had gotten it from the start. We use it daily, and bring it with us as a safe place to put baby whenever we go visit people.

It has some benefit to neck strength for sure. There are other positives to floor time like stretching and developing limb coordination. Like many things balance is great!

Came here to say this! Our son loved the alpine bouncer. For a while this bouncer was one of the only things that kept him happy 😅 The cover was easy to take off and wash if he had a blow out in it

This is by far my favorite thing we have. It allows our baby to sit completely upright which really helps with reflux and spit up after feeding. He also has the best poops while sitting in that chair 😂 Like others said, washable, foldable, etc. My baby did not care for a vibrating bouncer or swing. He just loves to bounce in the Bjorn. We use it every day during every wake window because it helps him digest. It’s his favorite place. I think the price is ridiculous, but it’s been worth every penny. If I knew how much we would have used it before we bought it, I would have easily paid double.

Another +1 for baby bjorn bouncer. You can buy it secondhand on FB Marketplace. The cover comes off and you can throw it in the wash.

We use it multiple times a day everyday. Our LO is almost 5 months and he's been in it from 2 months on. It really helps when I am doing chores or just want to take a moment to sit back. I normally have him hang in there for 20 minutes at a time or whenever he shows like he wants to move on. We got out baby bjorn from Facebook marketplace for a small amount. So I would definitely get one used if you find one!

When I took mine to his six month checkup the NP was all “does he poop at least once every 24 hours” and I burst out laughing. He was a multiple times a day pants shitter until solid food really started.

It also has multiple settings to support newborns and infants, allegedly even toddlers once you flip the seat. And it looks nice but most importantly it seems to be very comfortable for the baby. If it was a dud I would have absolutely returned it given the cost, but this is the rare exception where the price was worth it to me.
