Halo Bassinest

The Halo Bassinest is a bedside bassinet designed to allow parents to keep their newborn close while sleeping. It features a swivel function, adjustable height, and a stable base for easy access during nighttime feedings.

Pros (+)

  • Swivels for easy access without getting out of bed
  • Adjustable height to fit various bed sizes
  • Many find it comforting to have baby close by

Cons (−)

  • Wide legs can be a tripping hazard
  • Some report wobbling or tilting issues
  • Not ideal for very small spaces

Why parents like it

Parents praise the Halo Bassinest for its ability to swivel, making it easy to reach the baby without getting out of bed. The adjustable height is also highlighted as a major benefit, especially for those recovering from a C-section.

Common complaints

Several parents express frustration with the bassinet's wide legs, which can be a tripping hazard in smaller spaces. Others report stability issues, with some stating that the bassinet wobbles or tilts, affecting their baby's comfort.

Best for

Parents who want a bedside bassinet that makes nighttime feedings easier. The tradeoff is a larger footprint that may not fit well in smaller rooms.

Bottom line

The Halo Bassinest offers great bedside access and adjustable height, but some parents find it bulky and unstable.

We got a halo bassinet. I loved the adjustable height. We are both tall, my back was killing me the first few weeks post partum and my husband has back problems. The high bassinet saved us those first few months. That being said, my BIL and SIL borrowed it and hated it. They have a very low bed and are much shorter than us.

We bought the cheapest Version last year and I loved it. I had some postpartum anxiety and it allowed my kid to be "in bed" with me safely. I just had it high enough to hover over the bed and I slept nose to nose with her essentially. I saved mine for baby #2 and would highly recommend it. Mine didn't tilt though. Don't know what that's about

Thread: "Is the Snoo worth it?"

I have an 8 day old- and we LOVE the Snoo. It isn’t even about the soothing features, which definitely help and are great, it’s the safety/relief that comes with strapping her in with their sleep sacks. Even if I don’t turn on the motion/sound, I know she’s set for the few hours she is in it and it’s FDA approved to help prevent SIDS. I developed major anxiety after she arrived- I think if she were in a Halo or any other bassinet (which we also have but will not be using bc the Snoo is working so well for us), I’d be checking on her even more at night. I’d always be wondering if she somehow got herself into a weird position or against the side where she can’t breath or something my imagination creates just to ruin my sanity. The Snoo eliminates that question, which gives me extra peace of mind.

+1 to the big leg footprint. We have a bed with closed sides (storage underneath) and the Halo feet wouldn’t go under our bed so we have to put it further away from the bed which defeats the whole purpose (but great bassinet other than this)

I was given a halo bassinet by a generous coworker who is done having kids and just wanted to give it to me. I believe it was given to her. I think it’s older but it still has the music, lights, vibration. I’m 22 weeks so I haven’t used it yet but it was free so I’m happy with that!

We originally had a snoo but sold it for the halo bassinest and I 1000% recommend the halo. We got the one with the vibration and sounds and it was super useful. The side folds down if needed but I never used that option, I loved that it fit right up against my bed but that I was able to make it tall enough that nothing could accidentally fall in. I also loved all the mesh sides because I could peel through and see her, and I didn’t have to worry about her pushing up against them.

See, I disagree on the size thing! We got a secondhand Halo bassinet for our first baby, it was pretty small and my baby doubled his weight by 2mo so we ended up having to use the pack and play for 3-4 months while he was still in our room. Pregnant with my second and we ended up going with a drop side bassinet similar to the one in op’s first picture. It’s big but I know we’re going to get more use out of it this time around. When you have big/tall babies you end up needing sturdier, larger baby gear if you want to maximize the use you get out of those items.

I would actually recommend against a bassinet and recommend that you get a mini-crib instead. My babies were born tiny and still outgrow the bassinet so quickly. My Halo wobbles and I hate it. I finally bought a mini crib for my third and wish I had just done it with my first.

We purchased ours (halo bassinet) on Facebook marketplace. For us they were worth it (we ended up with two, $80 for one and $100 for they other). I was able to sleep within a fort of my baby without cosleeping and soothe him easily when he stirred with a hand on his chest.

Thread: "Help me pick a bassinet!"

I have the Halo swivel and it worked out well for us. We have no space on either side of the bed so it was at the foot of the bed. I used the swivel feature mostly to get it out of the way sometimes. There are two reasons I didn't care for a drop side: a) I had a drop side at the hospital and it was zero percent helpful in getting him out because it didn't lock down (for obvious safety reasons) so I still had to half get out of bed to lift him out of it anyway and b) your brain constantly plays tricks on you and tells you you have the baby in bed with you while you're sleeping when you don't, and if the bassinet was right beside me and super easy to pull him out of, I'd be terrified this would happen for real when I half asleep. I liked knowing that in order to pick him up, I'd have to be awake enough to stand. Id' rather he cry for a moment while I get myself up than risk me pulling him into bed with me and falling asleep again. The swivel has a large footprint cause the legs stick out pretty far. It's super stable, though and worked for us. I liked that the legs were open on the bottom because we put the dog beds right underneath to save space in our room. We only used it for three months and then baby was ready for the crib. I bought it second hand on FB and will be reselling it there for another baby to use!

Bassinest. It was expensive but very good for nursing at night. Worth every penny. We used it about 3-4 months per kid and passed along to family. It's not a replacement for a crib. It's a nicety to have during the first months when there are a ton of feedings and mom is recovering.

I had one with my first and my baby *hated* it. She never fell asleep in it once, preferring the free "baby box" (literally a cardboard box with a fitted mattress in it) that the county sent us. The Halo Bassinest was also not tall enough to swivel over our bed like in the advertising, and it was tilted to the point that for a moment there we thought our newborn was some kind of prodigy at rolling over. It's also very heavy and almost impossible to move. We eventually found a use for the Halo: whenever we needed to wake up the baby (for feeding, etc.), we would lay her in it. It worked every time. We'd call it the "wake up machine." But every baby is different! Yours might like it.

Thread: "FTM: Do we need a bassinet?"

I was given the Halo bassinet from someone getting rid of theirs…it was free so I couldn’t say no. But I hated that thing. It was too high for our bed so I couldn’t even get her out without getting out of bed, which I think defeats the purpose of a bassinet IMO. We then got a pack n play with the top bassinet and that worked fine, but I honestly wish I would’ve went bougie and gotten the Newton bassinet because the height would’ve been perfect and she slept in our room for almost 4.5 months so it would’ve been used a lot. You definitely don’t need a bassinet. I just liked her sleeping next to me.

Another vote for Halo Swivel. I loved baby being at eye level so I could check on her without getting up. I did have to sit up to pick her up, but I preferred to nurse in a sitting position anyway. The swivel park was also nice for being able to easily make the bed or clean the floor after spitup incidents.

Thread: "Did you use a bassinet or just put the baby in a crib right away?"

We used the bassinet for about 3 months when baby started to roll and then transitioned him to the pack n play. There were 2 advantages for us. First, the whole crib wouldn’t have fit well in our room and I wanted him in our room with us. Secondly, and this is probably a fairly niche thing, but our little guy likes to sleep with pressure on his face. As soon as he could roll over, he was sleeping face down (looking very much like he couldn’t breathe). But when he was a newborn, because he was all swaddled and couldn’t roll over, he would wiggle his way all the way to the side of the bassinet and smash his face against the mesh. He couldn’t have done that in a crib and probably wouldn’t have slept as well. We had the halo bassinest. It was fine, wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. I got it fairly cheap from a friend who got it used at a rummage sale. Our room wasn’t wide enough for it to be used as intended. But still just okay. I would, however, highly recommend getting a pack n play. That’s what he slept in for the months between when he could roll over and couldn’t be in a bassinet anymore and when I was ready to transition him to his own room. We still have it up as a safe spot to corral him if we need to and then of course the obvious use of travel.

For bassinet, hands down Skip Hop Cozy Up 2 in 1 bassinet side sleeper. I bought the halo one first, but our room was too small, so the swivel doesn’t work in small spaces and pushing the side down is awkward and annoying. I can’t stop recommending the skip hop on instead. The drop down side is so nice and makes soothing your LO easy from bed. Carrier - I was in the same boat as you. Got a wrap one and just got too overwhelmed. I got the ergo baby embrace which is soft, but still has some structure and is easy to put on. Also got the 360 for when she’s a bit older.

The Halo Basssinest was personally my favorite and I'm purchasing one again for baby #2. It glides across the floor smooth, it rocks very gently when you are rocking it and can be pulled right up next to your bed, or depending on your bed height, right over the mattress and right next to you. Thats how we slept with my first bedside. It was almost like co-sleeping except she was safe in her own little space. The side clicks down so you can reach in from your bed easily. I adored this thing. Highly recommend Specifically, this one: [halo glider bassinest. notice the two feet only. not 4](https://www.snugglebugz.ca/products/halo-bassinest-glide-sleeper?via=Z2lkOi8vc251Z2dsZWJ1Z3ovV29ya2FyZWE6OkNhdGFsb2c6OkNhdGVnb3J5LzVjODcxNDI5Nzk5YzVhMDE2MDlhZjFjMg) Edit. Forgot to mention we purchased ours locally from our Walmart so no shipping. But you can search around different providers, some have discounts on it at different times. Thats what I'm watching for.
