Britax Graphene

The Britax Graphene is a convertible car seat designed for children from birth to four years, featuring a compact design suitable for smaller vehicles. It includes a SafeCell impact protection system and is equipped with a quick-adjust harness for easy adjustments as your child grows.

Pros (+)

  • Comfortable for long car rides
  • Compact design fits well in smaller cars
  • Quick-adjust harness for easy use

Cons (−)

  • May need replacement before age two
  • Higher price compared to similar models
  • Limited longevity for growing children

Why parents like it

Many parents praise the Graphene for its comfort, noting that their children seem happy during long car rides. The compact design is frequently highlighted as a great feature for fitting into smaller cars.

Common complaints

A significant concern is the car seat's lifespan, with some parents stating it may require replacement too soon for the price. Additionally, a few parents mention the cost as being higher compared to other options like the Maxi Cosi.

Best for

Parents with smaller vehicles looking for a comfortable car seat for their infants. The tradeoff is the higher price and potential need for an earlier replacement.

Bottom line

The Britax Graphene is a good option for parents needing a compact car seat, but its shorter lifespan raises concerns for those looking for long-term use.

Thread: "AIO? MIL bought used car seat and I’m annoyed"

Safety issues aside does she realize how long kids use car seats? My Britax graphene is for 0-4 and she's spent over $200 on a seat that would require replacing before your baby is even 2. She hasn't got a good deal at all because with her plan you'd be spending another couple of hundred to replace this seat she already bought instead of just starting off with the one you want. I'm sure she means well but she's overstepped and maybe if you go with the approaching expiry date that will stop her getting upset about it?

We have an i30and use a britax graphene. If you go to a baby bunting they will help you try out car seats in your car

Thread: "Car Seats - Britax Graphene vs Graphene + vs B-Compaq Ifix+"

The Graphene + isn’t worth the extra $ - it’s only the infant insert which has the memory foam so you only get that benefit for a year or so (we took the infant insert out at about 13 months). The B-Compaq Ifix isn’t worth the $ either in my view; the only thing it has over the Graphene is the wind-out side impact protection. It also has a closed-over back which I dislike - I pull the splitter plate down at the back to help get a good harness fit (I find it much the easiest way) and with a closed back you can’t do that. We’re very happy with our Graphene and our kiddo is comfortable in it. She’s still well under the first marker (where you can forward face) at 19 months, so will be rear facing in it for ages yet.

Seconding the Graphene, fits well in our Golf and Polo prior to that. My son is a tall 3 year old and he seems comfy in it.

Thread: "Can't decide on a car seat - Britax B-Compaq or Maxi Cosi Pria?"

I have the Graphene EA (not sure if there's another Graphene model?) and it takes like a second to undo the tether and a second to do it back up, so I wouldn't base the purchase on that 😊. Not sure what the b-compaq tether is like but if it's the same, I'd consider/compare the other differences such as shape, size etc for your specific car  One thing that annoys me with the EA is that the buckles clip to the side instead of magnets. I feel like the little plastic clips will break before I'm finished using the seat. If you get it in the wrong angle it can be tricky to do up/undo it feels like it'll snap. I've not heard of it happening but that's just how it feels when I use it, if that makes sense 🤷‍♀️

Lots of great info on the Facebook group! We bought the infasecure Quattro onyx during boxing day sales but looks like it's back to full price now. Britax graphene/brava, maxi Cosi pria and infasecure attain/Quattro are the best options, at current prices I'd go the graphene. If that's out of budget, the Brava (or quickfix) is same shell mid range option. These are all compact extended rear facing 0-4 and will work in any small car. We have an i30. Highly recommend the child restraints FB group for more info.

Thread: "Best easy-install car seat"

We have a car and a Britax B-First Compaq Plus but recently went on holidays to Adelaide. We uninstalled it from our car at the airport in less than a minute. Got it installed in the Uber upon arrival Adelaide in under 3 minutes. We also hired a car and the installation/removal process was just as quick. My mum just bought the Britax Graphene, which is supposed to be good for fitting in smaller cars too. We installed it at Baby Bunting in about 5 minutes. It would’ve been quicker but we had to unbox it and adjust the straps and height to fit baby. Both car seats seem like good quality and I’d buy them again. We’ll probably get a Graphene for our second car later in the year. My main advice is to get a car seat that will fit in most cars, including small cars. That way you won’t be restricted in the type of taxi or friends car that you use.
