There’s a reason that Chicco Keyfit & Graco snugride are routinely rated as two of the best car seats. It’s not just about nice materials, but about ease of install, how it fits a small baby and how well they fit into your vehicle. Also there was just a massive recall of Maxi Cosi car seats if you weren’t aware. Here’s a list of recommended infant seats (with pros and cons for each): https://vicarseattechs.com/our-favourite-seats/infant-seats/ If you want a “fancy” seat, the one I’ve seen recommended the most is Clek Liing.

Definitely the Clek. It’s has better limits, making it a longer lasting seat that fits better in cars, especially smaller cars. The uppababy seats are generally not recommended by CPSTs, they are often outgrown early and are larger front to back so tend to take up more space in cars. The Aria especially has lower limits than the Mesa so you run the risk of baby outgrowing it even sooner (as early as 5-6 months). I’d recommend checking out the SEATS for Kids fb group if you’re looking for more info, they are really helpful.

They all do the same job, they will all keep your child safe. BUT it's nice to have nice things. The fabric of the Clek Liing IS nicer. It has a load leg. It's extremely easy to make sure it's installed correctly. Customer service is excellent, and they will do a video call to ensure it's installed correctly. The expiration is longer than most seats on the market which would make it suitable for multiple kids across wide age gaps. There are some nice features like a huge UPF sun canopy. It's light, and easy to carry. One thing I've found with cheaper seats is that the harness tangles itself more easily. I've never had that problem with my Clek. It's also made in Canada which is a huge bonus. I bought the Clek for myself, because I wanted the nicest/best of the best baby stuff. It was a want, and I would never look down on anyone for choosing a more budget friendly option because you said it yourself- anything sold here is going to keep your baby safe. I do want to add that some of the more expensive seats are actually worse. I really recommend checking out the seats for kids facebook group. You can search your vehicle model and you can see CPST recommendations that work well in your car. I was set on a Nuna Pipa Lite before I started my research. Turns out, it's a really poor fit in a LOT of vehicles- you might even need a pool noodle to get it to fit securely. Another example are the Uppa Baby seats which are $$$ but are outgrown really quickly. Clek, Graco Snugride, and Chicco Keyfit were the top 3 recommended for pretty much all types of cars.

We went with the Clek Liing because it was one of the only ones with a load leg (all pass the minimum standards but this is a safety feature we felt strongly about). I’m loyal to Clek since that seat mostly because of their excellent customer service and their seats clean beyond easily with their cleaning kit. That being said, the best seat for your family heavily depends on your family and your vehicle.

We went with Clek liing because: - we live in Toronto and do a lot of driving in the city and the surrounding highways that have very dense traffic & crazy stupid drivers, our chances of accidents statistically is higher then if we lived more rural. The load leg is beneficial for this safety consideration. - I like that it is on the smaller , narrower end of things - recommended by CPSTs in the Canada carseat a Facebook group - the functionality is so easy and smooth to use, the one handed removal from base is a nice feature - 20% off right now , hallelujah Haven’t purchased yet- waiting until Friday to see if by chance there is any further discounts or offers

I’ve read that having a load leg makes the seat 40% safer, but this typically isn’t reflected in crash tests since they compare seats with no load leg to seats with load legs not deployed. We went with the Clek Liing. I think anti-rebound bars are similar. Also be sure to buy from a reputable dealer. There are fake seats out there. The Car Seat Lady writes about this. We went through Albee Baby not Amazon for that reason.

Clek Liing, 100%! I absolutely love mine and recommend it to everyone for several reasons: - as you mentioned, made in Canada and has some excellent safety features specifically the load leg and the steel base. - it’s insanely easy to install which makes transferring it between vehicles or when travelling super easy (I recently had to install a convertible seat for my kid and was literally sweating and so frustrated, the Liing installs in 5 seconds and is completely idiot proof which is great when you’re sleep deprived and operating on only a few brain cells haha. We took ours on a trip and installed it in the taxi at the airport in just a few seconds; having to screw around with a finicky installation after travelling when everyone’s tired and the baby is screaming is a special kind of torture so I consider easy install as a major plus) - it’s very compact front-to-back so it works in every vehicle including smaller cars where the front passenger seat has to be pushed back for an average adult. It’s surprising how huge some of the infant seats can be! - The adjustable recline which can be done without uninstalling the seat is so damn smart and convenient - Clek’s customer service is incredible! They also have CPSTs on staff so if you have questions/concerns with your installation you can video call them or email them with pictures, etc. - the height and weight limits are one of the highest for infant seats so you’ll be able to use it for a long time. My kiddo is 14 months and still fits in it comfortably - we use it in my husband’s truck (we just leave the seat attached to the base and strap her in, instead of carrying the bucket seat into the house since she is heavy now). Some infant seats are outgrown by like 6 months. - 10 year expiration so it’ll last you multiple kids

Thread: "Chicco key fit 30 vs 35"

CPST here! Both the Keyfit (30 and 35) and the Liing are tech recommended seats as they are both fairly compact (so fit well in most vehicles), easy to use, and not outgrown quickly. The Keyfit 30 has lower limits, 30lb/30” but most kids tend to outgrow their infant seat by the third maximum which is the fit requirement. You must be able to maintain 1” of clearance above their head inside the car seat shell. For the 35, the limits are higher at 35lb/32” but you must maintain the 1” clearance above their head on the headrest. Depending on your child’s growth proportions (long torso, large head) they may hit that at the same time as they would in the 30. The 30 has a rethread harness which means you need to unhook the straps and manually move them to the next slot. The 35 has a no-rethread harness, which means you move the headrest and the harness moves with it. I find no-rethread harnesses convenient in theory but on an infant seat not really necessary as you aren’t having to uninstall the seat to do it since you can just take the carrier out and flip it over. All in all, I’ve personally used the Keyfit 30 and loved it. I haven’t seen a 35 in person yet but the bases are simple to install and fit well in most vehicles. I’m personally using a Liing for my impending 2nd child and am loving it as well.

Bumbleride! They do sell a separate bassinet, but the main stroller seat also lays flat so you can use it from birth. I have the Indie with the Clek adaptors and they are easy to set up and snap the car seat into. They also sell a double stroller (the Indie Twin) if that’s what you’re looking for.

Clek has features like the load leg that are above and beyond the pass/fail criteria in Canada. I bought a lot of my baby stuff used but did splurge on the Liing because of the extra safety plus better materials and big plus supporting a Canadian made product. It was also one of the more compact seats and my vehicle (Mazda 3 hatch) has a very tight back seat. It also worked with my stroller (used Uppababy Vista). It came highly recommended in the CPST group, especially compared to other premium seats. My daughter was in it until she was 1, and now baby 2 will be using it. It has a long use period before it expires too, which is worth considering if you plan to have more than 1.

As a CPST, I never recommend Maxi Cosi because they are so hard to install and get the right angle. They take much space front to back that the front passenger has very little space left. The car seat cannot touch the front seat at all. I avoided taking my babies out in public spaces until they were 3 months old. We get our groceries delivered, but I would probably keep baby in the car seat if it's less than 15 minutes.

We have a second hand silver cross wave and the clek liing. We were torn between this, the uppa baby or the bugaboo kangaroo. It comes with both seats and the bassinet at time of purchase. The bassinet is overnight sleep safe. The uppababy we disqualified because in double mode baby has to be on the bottom, and the bugaboo we didn’t like the fold, the bumper bar release or how difficult it was to transition between modes. The silver cross wave is not well known in CA, but checks all your boxes. I’d see if you can find a store nearby to test it out, our local baby store had them in stock and we found it as good if not better to push than the bugaboo. Edited to add: it is HEAVY though. I’m fairly strong so don’t mind the added weight of getting it in and out of the car, but if you struggle to lift 30lbs I would not recommend.

This!!! We just transferred out of Liing into a convertible seat and I think with a tiny baby getting them set up in the house and then popping them into the car when you are ready/keeping them in there when they are napping on the go and you arrive where you are going is SO worth it. But I’m sure there’s lots of other options out there that might be a better fit for you, so def figure out what you want in a stroller first. I will say though that the liing is AMAZING!!! We’re switching to a bigger car seat soon (the foonf) and I’ll be sad when we’re no longer using the liing. Our baby has always loved it and has had many naps in it. It was soooo nice for long walks in the early days. The adapters for the uppababy vista raise the car seat quite high on the stroller which I also loved but does make it more top heavy, so I made sure not to let go of the stroller if I didn’t have stuff in the bottom basket.

We have a Britax Emblem which I LOVE and a Graco 4ever in the other vehicle which I hate. The Britax is comfortable and easy to install. It’s been discontinued but they replaced it with the Poplar and I’ve heard good things. The 4ever was a pain to install, and it has shifted twice since we installed it a month ago and I had to completely re-install it. I don’t know why it shifts, none of our other car seats have ever done so. I have my infant in a Clek Liing in the same vehicle and it doesn’t shift. The straps on the 4ever are a PITA to tighten as well. The only reason we bought the 4ever is because she’s almost 4, so I liked that it will convert to a booster in a couple years when she’s ready for it. When my son grows out of his infant seat, I will be buying him another Britax.

On the topic of length and fit specifically, I look for seats that can accommodate my tall, long-torso kids for the longest. They will not get anywhere near outgrowing a seat by weight, but they max out height early. So if you have any reason to believe baby will reach height or weight limits early, that is a good first step to narrow down the options. Personally, we use the Clek Liing for infant seat, and then transition to the Clek Foonf for convertible seat. They have adapters for pretty much any stroller that doesn’t require proprietary seats, so for example I can use the Liing on my Uppababy stroller, which accommodates 3 kids. I highly recommend safeintheseat on Instagram (or other social media) for seat guidance! Of course, it’s totally true that all seats pass rigorous safety standards to be sold, so the seat that fits your car/child/lifestyle best is the right seat!

Fun fact to keep in mind, if you order directly from them you'll get a brand new right off the line (from their factory in Kitchener, ON) model that'll have the longest expiry date. Ours was only constructed last week so we have the full 9 years until expiry! This was important to us as we're planning to have 3-4 kids. Most other carseat brands are made in China and will be at least a few months old at delivery. We also got adapters so it works with the Bugaboo Kangaroo stroller we also bought.

I am a car seat tech and there are only a few things that will work. Dionos will not work (specifically you won’t be able to install a Diono well in your center seat either rear or forward facing due to the shape of the bottom of the car seat. Diono seats are also difficult to use correctly in general) The Graco Slimfit3 LX is a convertible seat and it is narrower than Diono seats by about .3”. It’s also MUCH easier to use forward facing - so while generally it’s annoying to pay for a rear facing feature you won’t use, it’s truly the best option in this case for keeping your car. It’s also probably the best choice for the twins once they outgrow their infant car seats - but it’s too upright rear facing to work well for newborns, who need a really deep recline to protect their airways. So the best infant seat options are either the Clek Liing or the Chicco Keyfit 30 or the Chicco Keyfit 35. The Liing has a much easier seatbelt install than either of the Chicco options but it’s also $$$$ sooo the Chicco’s will work well too- just take a little more finagling to install. You’ll want to install all 3 seats with seatbelt (not latch) and pull the two outer car seats as close to the door as possible but it’ll work. (My twins were out of infant seats by the time I had to put them in my babysitter’s civic with my younger singleton- but 3 across with the Graco Slimfit3 LX was what worked then!)

I love my Cleks! We had a Liing then graduated to the Fllo. I love how easy to install the Cleks are compared with other seats. Given how common seat mis-installation is, being easy to install is probably the #1 real world safety feature. The Liing is also super light, though I ended up babywearing and only rarely taking the Liing out of the car. The Cleks are also narrow which is going to be great for when #2 gets here and I have to install the two car seats side by side.
