Thread: "Why do newborns sleep in bassinets vs cribs?"

You can put your baby in the crib from day one but for us, we found she didn't sleep as well in our mini crib in the first couple of months. We ended up borrowing a bassinet from a friend when our baby at 3 weeks wouldn't sleep in the crib and would only sleep on us. I hadn't gotten one since I thought it was unnecessary with the crib in our room but the baby slept way better in the bassinet during the newborn stage (plus we could keep it closer to the bed which was way easier for night wakings). Obviously this all anecdotal and every baby is different.

Thread: "Did you guys get a bassinet?"

Most babies should be moved out of the bassinet by the time they’re 5 months old or sooner though, when they’re too big or start rolling over. We ended up moving our daughter to her room (right next to ours) at that point which was around 5 months, but another option to avoid a full size crib in the bedroom could be a pack n play or mini crib.

Thread: "Crib or Bassinet? Sleeping in same room necessary?"

Look into a mini crib that fits beside your bed. I wish I had purchased the babyletto mini crib since it lasts way longer than a bassinet but basically serves the same purpose of being right next to the bed. I got the arms reach co sleeper bassinet and honestly I love it so much but we had to move him out of it at 5 months per their website guidelines and put a mini crib since we plan on keeping baby in our room for awhile, probably up to a year. I’m a very attached parent so I can’t imagine him in another room yet. You will want a mini changing station(diaper changing pad, wipes, diapers, cream) for wherever they sleep though too just a heads up you will need a little bit of space for that too which is why I loved the arms reach co sleeper bassinet it had storage under it.

Thread: "Bedside Bassinet big enough to last 6 months?"

Seconding, if I had to do it again I would have skipped the bassinet and even the full sized crib and done a mini crib in our room day 1 to about 6 months, move the mini crib to their own room then switch to a twin around age 1 1/2 to 2

Thread: "Bassinet that your baby actually liked?"

When my toddler was a baby, he outgrew his bassinet before I was even off maternity leave and his crib wouldn’t fit in our room and I wasn’t ready for him to be alone in his room, so I ordered a cheap mini crib and he slept fairly well in that!
