Same. I really wanted the white and wood toned Babyletto Lolly and it looked fantastic in the nursery. My son pretty much refused to sleep in it. I recently sold it on FB Marketplace for a few hundred bucks. So hopefully that baby will actually get some use out of it.

With that budget I would look at babyletto brand. The Lolly model ($750) came with the conversion kit included and is really well made. It works as a crib, toddler bed, and daybed once they no longer need any rails. You may be able to find it on sale too depending on how much of a rush you're in.

It also depends on your baby/habits. We don't really spend time in our bedrooms outside of sleeping and both our cribs had minimal and even no scratching after almost 4 years of use.(Babyletto Lolly). We resold both for about 50% of what we paid, so it worked out great! I imagine if your setup is different ( access to the bedroom all day), chewing is more of a concern.
