VTech VM819

The VTech VM819 is a digital video baby monitor featuring a 2.8-inch screen, 19-hour battery life, and a range of up to 1000 feet. It includes two-way audio, auto night vision, a temperature sensor, power-saving mode, and lullabies.

Pros (+)

  • Reliable performance without WiFi
  • Long battery life for overnight monitoring
  • Easy to set up and use

Cons (−)

  • Basic features compared to premium models
  • Screen size may be too small for some
  • Limited advanced functionalities

Why parents like it

Many parents praise the monitor's straightforward setup and reliable performance without the need for WiFi. The long battery life and clear audio are also frequently highlighted as key benefits.

Common complaints

Some parents mention that it feels basic compared to more expensive monitors with additional features. A few also note that the screen size could be larger for better visibility.

Best for

Parents looking for a simple, reliable monitor without WiFi requirements. The tradeoff is missing out on features like smartphone connectivity and larger screens found in pricier options.

Bottom line

The VTech VM819 is a dependable choice for parents seeking a budget-friendly monitor, though it may not satisfy those wanting advanced functionalities.

Thread: "Best no BS baby monitor?"

I was gifted a Vtech audio and camera monitor. It’s plug in only (no WiFi) and it was $40 on amazon. It works great and I can move to different rooms as needed. No complaints! Model VM819

Thread: "Baby monitor - which one did you go for?"

Haven’t used it yet as baby isn’t here until Monday but a friend recommended the VTECH VM819 2.8” digital video monitor. She’s got a 4 month old and has used it pretty much from day one and can’t fault it. So far I like it too! Seems super easy to use. Was only about £55 from Mamas and Papas too.

Yeah, that's what we're afraid of. We've seen some that are £200+ and didn't want to spend that much for the reason you have said. The ones we've seen so far are between £40-£80 and I'll definitely have a look into those 2🙂

Thread: "Seeking Baby Monitor Recommendations"

I have two (one was gifted) We have LeapFrog LF2415 and Vtech VM819. They’re both… fine. They both have additional features like lullabies, nightlight etc but honestly I would go for anything basic. I literally use the monitor to glance over and see they’re asleep and all the other functionalities are wasted. Maybe they’ll change when they’re older but I press the on and off button and that’s it!

Thread: "So my baby monitor was hacked."

I’m not sure you’ll be comfortable with another V-tech product, but they make a monitor that doesn’t use wifi and we love it. It’s definitely cheaper than some other Bluetooth monitors and works great. I really hope there isn’t a way to hack this one but I don’t see how it could be.
