UPPAbaby Ridge

The UPPAbaby Ridge is a jogging stroller designed for active families, featuring a robust frame and all-terrain wheels for smooth rides on various surfaces. It includes a large storage basket and is compatible with UPPAbaby car seats and accessories.

Pros (+)

  • Handles rough terrain with ease
  • Spacious storage basket for essentials
  • Compatible with UPPAbaby car seats

Cons (−)

  • Heavy and cumbersome for daily use
  • Lacks a footrest for smaller babies
  • Some find it too large for tight spaces

Why parents like it

Parents praise the Ridge for its ability to handle long walks and rough paths with ease. The spacious storage basket and compatibility with car seats make it a practical choice for outings.

Common complaints

The weight of the Ridge is a common concern, especially for parents who need to lift it frequently. Some also mention the lack of a footrest for smaller babies as a significant drawback.

Best for

Active families who enjoy jogging and outdoor activities with their child. Be prepared for a heavier stroller that may not be as convenient for quick trips.

Bottom line

The UPPAbaby Ridge is ideal for parents who prioritize durability and performance, but its weight may be a drawback for those needing a lighter stroller.

Thread: "Not sure how much to spend on a stroller"

Strollers are something I would probably spend money on, but I'd spend that money on strollers designed for 6 months and beyond; specifically because those strollers will last until they're walking on their own 100% of the time. We currently have two uppababy strollers for our 10 month old. The Ridge V2 (jogger/rough road/parks) and the Minu V2 (compact/for inside stores). When our daughter was an infant, we rocked the Doona, which was amazing as a transportation system, but it was only a mediocre "stroller". Edit: Baby items you will use every day, that either contain or transport the baby, are something you should probably 'splurge' on because it's generally worth it.

Uppababy Ridge has been our primary stroller for the past 18 months, including, when the baby was in the bassinet. We love it for the reasons stated in the post AND because the baby can actually sit upright - our baby does not tolerate having to always be at a recline.

Same here! We got the Uppababy Ridge because we knew we’d be doing a lot of walks with the dog, who likes to play in the field. I ended up with a c section and couldn’t lift the Ridge into the car for a long time without pain so we got the Minu as well and I’m SO glad we did. It’s small and perfect for going into stores. It lives in my the car unless I’m driving somewhere for a walk.

We have the uppababy ridge and love it! The bassinet was great! We used it as his bed and also for on the go with the stroller Honestly, I was using my baby carrier more for trail walks instead of the stroller. Baby didn’t want to lie flat, or be away from me.

Thread: "[bc] Stroller Help! Uppababy vs Thule, Urban vs All Terrain, Three versus Four wheels"

I'd either baby wear when walking on terrain or skip the Vista for the following alternatives. You could stay with Uppababy and get a used Ridge for the farm ($500), used Minu V2 for the car ($300), and a used bassinet ($50-100) that works on both strollers. That'd cost you about the same as what you were prepared to pay for the Vista. Your trunk will get far less dirty and be way less crowded this way, and you'll be able to maneuver in city streets or stores much better with the Minu, which is also way better for air travel. The Ridge is slightly bigger to store and neither of these can be rear facing, though this is mostly or completely mitigated by bassinet use in early months. If you really don't want two strollers, I'd look at the Bumbleride Era (\~$400 used or \~$800 + tax new). Its handle isn't as sturdy/nice as the Vista and it's clunkier to fold, but it has larger inflatable tires that are much better off-road. It can be used rear facing and has an infant safe flat seat so no bassinet is needed. It also features eco materials that are free of harmful chemicals. All of these strollers sacrifice basket size compared to the Vista, but I'd optimize for daily walks on the farm (sounds wonderful!) before I optimized for grocery shopping. Also, don't worry about a 2nd seat until that's a real need for you. Even then, there are better 2-seater options.

Thread: "[bc] Stroller Help! Uppababy vs Thule, Urban vs All Terrain, Three versus Four wheels"

I bought the ridge as my daily stroller and I love it. We live in thr city but have a dirt path near us I knew I'd want to take walks on and it handles it incredibly well. The basket is a good size and I like having the big wheels and suspension. I think its fine to have the baby look forward. By the time you transition them to the seat they'll be probably 6 months anyways and want to look out at the world. I have 2 strollers, a small one for the car that I use with my car seat for errands and the ridge as my daily. I don't think you'd need a Vista and a jogging stroller, I think you can get away with just a jogging stroller. I'd also add Bob jogging strollers to your list to look into. They only reason I didn't choose that one instead of the ridge is because I wanted to use the bassinet with it but they're fantastically built strollers that last a really long time for the kids (like I used to sit in them when I worked at a Baby store 6 years ago).

Honestly we just have the Minu and I just push it around wherever. Pushed it across a soccer field and baseball field yesterday. Maybe a little bumpy but it’s fine 🤷‍♀️

Thread: "Nuna triv vs. Uppababy Cruz"

We are due in the Fall as well and went with Uppababy (Minu and Ridge) largely because I have heard from many people that their customer support is much better. Both brands push great, seem easy to use, look premium etc. I felt like the Mixx Next was a more direct competitor for the Cruz than the Triv was.

Thread: "Recommendations for jogging strollers?!"

we have the uppababy ridge jogger which has been great for long walks in and around our neighborhood. it’s compatible with the uppababy bassinet which was really nice in the early days. smooth ride and plenty of storage. like the thule it is huge and pretty heavy. we use the nuna TRVL or babywear for errands depending on where we’re going i think the most lightweight / relatively compact jogger on the market is the guava roam.

My unasked for two cents as a former BoB owner and now Ridge owner: Ridge is HEAVY. I so much preferred the Bob, felt lighter and had a suspension system that felt like it was floating. Ridge... nice stroller but heavy AF. Complete regret buying it.

Thread: "Strollers for winter in Canada?"

Look for a three wheeled stroller with air or foam filled tires. Don’t bother with any Uppababy strollers other than the Ridge. I’ve found that in Canadian weather, I need two strollers, one that’s light and easily foldable for good weather and to keep in the car, another that’s all terrain for snowy and icy weather.

Yes! Ridge here, too! I use it as my primary because of our rocky driveway and love it, but I’m really considering something smaller for travel. I have to get into squat stance to get it in and out of the car!

Yep, the Ridge needs an adapter to work with Mesa or the bassinet, but at least it is the same adapter!

FWIW i have the UB ridge and I feel pretty much the same way about it. It’s HUGE. And while it handles nicely and folds down relatively easily, I struggle to get it into the back of my SUV because it’s pretty heavy. I like it for walks through rough areas, but I absolutely could have waited until my LO was older to buy one

I am also going to be getting the ridge and minu- we go camping and hiking a lot so I definitely want the jogging stroller for that but since it is bigger we want a smaller one to keep in the car for other things like visits to friends’ and doctors appointments, etc. got the Nuna Pipa rx so also got the adapters for them but these two seemed to fit our needs the most.

I have been looking at the ridge and this is good insight - thank you! I was really hoping to avoid the need for two strollers for economic and space-saving reasons, but it might just be what we have to do, given our lifestyle. Thank you.

Thread: "Single to double stroller (why?)"

I don’t have it, I know people who do and like it but I think all of those giant single to double type strollers do a lot of things okay but none of them really well and have obnoxious folds. Like my one relative who had it borrowed my GB Pockit+ for medical appointments because the Mockingbird (and also a Vista and similar strollers) are such a beast to take in and out of the car and another friend just bought a double jogger because it was easier to plane travel with than a double mockingbird. FWIW, if I were to be buying for the first time right now, as someone who enjoys neighborhood walks/trips to the zoo and park and to be able to easily navigate a stroller through a tight restaurant or store or doctor’s office and not have to worry about a checked stroller on most airplanes, I’d be getting a Minu V3 and a jogging stroller with an easy fold– like a Thule Urban Glide, at least some of the BOBs, or even an Uppababy Ridge if you wanted to use the bassinet with both the Minu and the Ridge. (I bought a few years ago and felt the parent facing option was a bigger deal than it probably was but do love my Nuna Triv and its fold, I just needed a separate airplane stroller)

I had the ridge and ended up selling it. The fact that it has no footrest and thus lacking the ability to bring it up for smaller babies was a deal breaker for me

I’m getting the uppababy ridge after I compared it and the Thule urban glide 2. It just felt overall nicer, easier to fold, loved the hand brake and foot break and loved that it fits the bassinet so I can use it right away.

Thread: "car seat + stroller + bassinet combo"

Same priorities and we went with Chicco Keyfit infant seat. I wish we had gotten the stroller frame for it too, it looks very lightweight. Yes to the bassinet stroller!! My baby loved ours and refused to sleep in his regular home bassinet. I have the uppa baby ridge + bassinet. I like the hiking/jogging stroller for a smoother ride and I can easily go in the grass. There are some other brands with a bassinet (Thule and Jeep?) but not sure if they’re as sleep safe. The bassinet is just so useful. We keep it in the house and move it around with us when baby is napping, sometimes he even plays with a toy chilling in it.
