Tula lite

The Tula Lite is a lightweight baby carrier designed for comfort and ease of use, suitable for infants and toddlers. It features adjustable straps, a compact design for travel, and is made from breathable materials.

Pros (+)

  • Lightweight and easy to pack for travel
  • Comfortable for extended wear
  • Adjustable straps for a custom fit

Cons (−)

  • Can be cumbersome to put on quickly
  • Less padding compared to other carriers
  • Not ideal for quick outings or everyday use

Why parents like it

The Tula Lite is praised for its comfort during long wear, especially for travel. Parents enjoyed using it for extended periods while exploring new places.

Common complaints

Some parents find the Tula Lite cumbersome, especially when trying to put it on quickly. A few also mention that it lacks the padding needed for longer wear compared to other carriers.

Best for

Parents who travel frequently and need a lightweight carrier for their little one. The tradeoff is that it may not provide the same level of support for longer outings as bulkier carriers.

Bottom line

The Tula Lite is great for travel and comfort, but may not be ideal for quick, everyday use due to its cumbersome nature.

Thread: "What do you get with the more expensive soft structured carriers?"

Lenny light is a good middle option, super cozy and beautiful and much more padded than the Tula lite so it’s better from longer wears. They range in from from 120-185 depending on fabric I have a $120 one and adore it! https://en.lennylamb.com/shop/by/erp_product_type/lenny_light

Thread: "How did you choose a baby carrier/wrap?"

I was gift wraps, ring sling, meh dai and SSC. I still bought a stretchy wrap so I could put him in and out as a newborn. (I didn’t know “poppable” wraps were an option with the woven wraps.). I’m having a baby wearing consult this week to get some advice and try on a few more carriers (upcoming holiday, I’m wondering if I get something more structured or if I just master the woven). Soooo I still haven’t chosen and my baby is nearly 4 months 😂😂. I loved the ring sling earlier on, but feel like he’s getting a bit heavy for it now (and he’s too small to put on my him). Woven wraps were intimidating at first but I’m getting the hang of them now, and love how they look and all the options with them. He hates the meh Dai and I think the SSCs I have might be for toddler sizes. Another reason I’m looking at a more structured carrier like a Tula lite or boba x is so my husband can use it on holidays too. What are your plans with the carrier (eg around the house, hiking, shopping)? Will you both be using it? Are you both interested in learning how to use a woven wrap or do you need something quick and easy to put on? The consultant I’m seeing recommends a consult during pregnancy, rather than after, but personally I feel like it’ll be more beneficial to me now than when I was pregnant (especially to troubleshoot why he hates the Meh Dai - If it’s my technique, or if it’s just his preference). Is there a lending library you could join? Or baby wearing group? Sorry I wasn’t much help! Just wanted to share my experience, if I had chosen one while pregnant (compared to being gifted) I probably would’ve felt like I had to stick with it even if it wasn’t right for me.

I LOVE my Tula Lite. Got it at a consignment store for a great deal but I would purchase full price in a heartbeat for a friend. It packs up so small and my LO loves it. We bought it around 5 months but definitely would have fit sooner and she’s pretty small to begin with 20th percentile). There’s enough room in the pocket for a few diapers, small pack of wipes, plus phone, keys, and wallet for me. It doesn’t get a ton of mentions on this sub but it’s a great option!

Thread: "What’s your favorite baby carrier?"

I would check out r/babywearing but at 2 months I loved my ergo aura wrap but it is definitely kind of a pain to get in and out of... for quick in and out I love the tula free to grow and it also is still great for my 10 month old.. I also have the tula lite that we use now for travel since it packs up into a fanny pack but I think they need to be at least 15 lbs. I also love my ring sling for travel since it is super easy to get baby in and out but there is a big of a learning curve to the ring sling so I wouldn't recommend it for travel unless you use it at home for a couple weeks to get used to it.

Thread: "Overwhelmed With Carrier Options and Plus Size"

My opinions (my size has recently ranged from 16-20 and I am busty) * Newborn: Moby wrap. Any brand will do, it’s short term so you don’t need an expensive one. * Starting 3-6 months depending on your baby’s size: Hope and Plum lark. Easy to get on myself, baby is secure and happy, it’s comfy and easy to get around. * For a back-carrying a toddler: Lillebaby or Tula. I can’t do either myself but with help they are both comfy. I started back-carrying when babe was 10ish months old. * Didn’t like the Tula for front-carry. The side strap sat on my boobs and I found the fit really uncomfortable. In a jam I would use the Tula lite however I found it to be cumbersome .. I would look at it each time and not be able to remember how to put it on. * Suuuuuuuper did not like the infantino. Man that thing killed my back. It’s funny to remember that now because my baby was only 7-10 lbs when I stopped using it and now I frequently use the Lille and have no back pain.

Thread: "Tula Lite vs Ergobaby Away for travel"

Integra’s Solar comes in a toddler size (depending on how tall your kiddo is, I *think* the seat can be cinched on that one?). It’s packable, but it doesn’t pack into its own waistband the way Tula’s Lite does. You might have to sacrifice some comfort for portability though, especially if you’re just wanting it for a trip. I’d look at the panel measurements for each carrier and pick whichever one will fit your baby best. I know the Tula doesn’t adjust at all, and typically starts fitting around 5ish months, so it may be small for your baby at this point.

We really liked the Tula Lite! We took it to Europe for a month and used it 6ish hours a day with a 11-12 month old. The only thing to keep in mind is it looks like a belt bag when folded so you need to keep an eye on it. Ours was stolen off our stroller, presumably because someone thought it contained valuables. We got it back a few minutes later when the thief dumped it after realizing there was nothing of value to them. We used it regularly after returning from our trip until it was outgrown a bit before two.
