Thread: "Artipoppe Reviews"

How old/how big is your baby? Generally you want less (no) padding and less bulk if you want to stay cooler. Minimalistic apron style carriers and ring slings are much better options. Artipoppe has one of the largest/stiffest waistbands available. Integra’s Solar (or one of their other fabrics), Happy Baby’s OG, Sakura Bloom’s Scout, and Hope & Plum’s Lark are all going to much lighter than a zeitgeist. Tons of brands sell ring slings— Hope & Plum, Nalakai, LennyLamb, Wildbird, Tula, Oscha, Didymos, etc, etc. ETA: Artipoppe does *not* safely fit newborns, despite advertising that they do. The panel is too wide and too tall, it’s a suffocation hazard. Most babies start fitting this carrier around 3 months (possibly longer if your baby is petite).

Thread: "What’s Your Holy Grail Carrier for Babies?"

For me if I could only use one, it’s the hope and plum lark. After a rough start and a fit consultation baby loves it and the comfort for the parent plus ease of use and practicality (front carry and back carry, comfortable but work horse fabric) are hard to beat. I am also liking a Sakura Bloom Scout in simple silk that I got used but to be honest it’s just not as practical and quick as the lark, given the rings for the waist and need for the chest strap. Edit to add that we live in a Very Hot Place and these are both decent, although a silk or linen ring sling would probably be better for heat. I also have an onbuhimo and that’s been a really good choice for the heat because the high back carry feels cooler and it’s a single layer of fabric. But it’s a bit more niche than the lark and can only be used when baby is sitting independently. If I was going for two I would get the lark plus either an onbuhimo or a silk or linen ring sling.

Thread: "Experiences with Tula carriers"

I love my Free to Grow! It’s my favorite out of the ones I tried: Wildbird Aerial, Sakura Bloom scout, ring sling, Ergo, Happy Baby. ETA: I considered the Explore but don’t want to forward face due to ergonomics. Will probably do a back wear when it’s time.

Thread: "How do you baby wear during the summer?"

I live in Hawaii. Have a linen Sakura Bloom Scout. Shaded forest hikes are the way not just bc of heat but to keep baby out of the sun. I can also hike on the beach bc it’s windy enough to stay cool, but I have to make sure baby is shaded (baby wears hat, pants and socks or I wear a towel draped over us).

+1 for the sakura bloom scout. It is really easy/ quick to put on, and it packs away very small. The only downside side is that any carrier with metal (SB scout has metal rings) can’t be worn through the mental detectors at the airport. Even with that, I still fly with the SB Scout and just take baby out of the carrier for TSA. The lark also looks like a good carrier but I haven’t personally tried it

Thread: "Anyone buy a structured carrier after getting tired of the wrap?"

If you’re smaller frame the explore is a bit bulky. I felt like it swallowed me and I couldn’t move my arms enough because the shoulder straps were so big. I know some people love it but wanted to offer my perspective if you plan to wear it around the house. (I’m 5’4) It probably would’ve been fine if I only planned to wear it on walks. I ended up returning it for a Sakura Bloom Scout and I also bought an Artipoppe. No regrets! Love them both.

Carriers are like bras, it’s so individual how they fit and what you prioritize. I prefer apron style carriers, I have to be able to put them on by myself, and they can’t be too bulky as I’m petite. Fx ergobaby omni was super bulky and impossible to use solo but for other people it’s amazing. For newborns I’ve used and loved the ergobaby embrace. Once they outgrow that I have a hope & plum lark and a sakura bloom scout and I love them both. I’ve had a babybjorn one that worked well with my older child until she got heavier but newbie hates it so I sold it. But I could get it on easily solo which I liked.

Thread: "Overwhelmed With Carrier Options and Plus Size"

Tula is waterfall style. As are other popular carriers like Ergo, Artipoppe, LennyLamb, Mabe, Wildbird, and Lillebaby. They are all characterized by a stiff waistband that buckles against your waist and then the baby's butt "waterfalls" over it. The stiffness of the waistband adds support but can also put a lot of pressure against your pelvic floor and dig weirdly into random fat rolls I've found. And not all waterfall waist bands are the same. I can wear Tula no problem but LennyLamb hurts. Apron carriers have a thinner unpadded waist band where it creates a little hammock the baby sits in. They aren't quite as supportive but I find them more comfortable personally. Popular ones of these are Happy Baby OG, Hope & Plum Lark, Sakura Bloom Scout, Oscha Bairn, and Integra Solar.

Thread: "F the cult-like following of certain carrier brands (Happy Baby)"

Yo also a teacher on mat leave (10 week old baby) with a tender c-section scar. It’s still pricey but Sakura Bloom’s Scout is very similar and in stock with 20% off currently ( ‘springlove’ discount code). The colours they have in stock currently (I assume their permanent collection) also go for less than retail on FB marketplace/groups. The official FB group is almost as bad as Happy Baby for bidding on limited edition colours though.

I love my Sakura Bloom Scout. I’ve used it for front and back and I’ve never noticed a difference in support. Not sure why it you be less supportive on front?

Thread: "Trying to choose a Happy Baby Carrier"

i have the OG happy baby and a similar onbuhimo from Sakura Bloom. I prefer the OG with the waistband as I felt it allowed me a much better control on fit and just felt more secure to me (my baby napped in the carrier for like the first 6-8 months of her life). I actually preferred the sakura bloom scout to the happy baby original but i did still use the happy baby often. i just found it really hard to figure out the onbuhimo and i watched all the videos!! i just couldn’t get baby high enough and i didn’t feel comfortable getting her up on my back when we weren’t at home over the couch

I found onbuhimos very hard on my shoulders. I like the Sakura bloom scout a lot though.

Thread: "Baby Carrier Recommendations [ON]"

I like stretchy wrap carriers for the newborn stage. I have two SollyBaby wraps, but definitely doesn’t need to be that bougie. It doesn’t take long for babies to be too heavy for these, so don’t expect a long use period out of them unless your baby is super petite. We got a ring sling to test drive when our second baby turned out to be a Velcro baby, and it become the most reached for carrier in the house. Both myself and my partner used it daily for months. I got a second one with a sturdier weave later because that baby loved carrier cuddles until she was over 37 lbs. Due to having big babies, after that I ordered a Lenny Lamb Wrap-Tai in toddler size. Love that carrier so so much, I ordered another recently in Mini size for our third baby. Other carriers that we’ve had and liked (but didn’t love) and sold; Lillebaby Complete All-Seasons (partners carrier, he liked it until he tried the ring sling and the Wrap-Tai), Sakura Bloom Scout, and Fidella Fly-Tie.

Have you thought about a Sakura Bloom Scout? I like it more than my onbuhimo. I’ve worn it many times through airports, and in the other situations you’ve explained.
