Thread: "High chair PSA! Don’t buy this high chair!!"
Parents, don’t confuse this post for the Tripp Trapp, which is my favorite baby purchase. It scoots right up to your table, but I believe you can also attach the tray too.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
They last forever. Get it secondhand and you'll get your money's worth from it
Thread: "Do you love or hate the Stokke Tripp Trapp?"
The real take is that it depends… Do you only plan to use it as a high chair in the baby months and/or you’re looking for the easiest to clean? Then it’s probably not worth the cost. The baby seat is imo the worst part of the chair, the straps are a pain to clean, and you can’t just hose down the whole chair like you could with one that’s made of plastic. But if you want something that fits in with your decor, has legs that you’re less likely to trip over or stub your toe on, can be pulled right up to the table (no need to use a tray), grows with your kid through their whole life? Then it is likely a good choice for you.

I just want to know how any of you are getting your child to sit in a high chair beyond like 15mos 😂 my little guy has consistently been standing in his helper tower to eat meals for months and otherwise will sit on a regular dining chair with a cushion. He isn’t even 2 yet!!
Thread: "Don’t be influenced to buy the mockingbird highchair"
I love the Tripp trapp, they aren't cheap, but very well made and can grow with your baby. My toddler now can climb up himself which is great.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
Yes it is. And the child can use it for years. Also it has a nice baby module the newborn can be in as well as extra modules for the toddler. Love ours. But I’m also scandinavian 😅
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
You’re paying for aesthetics. I love how ours blends in with the dining area, but it’s annoying to clean because the frame is wood and the underside of the tray was designed by someone who hates parents.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
Lots of people love this chair, especially because it grows with your child so you can use it for years. This post attracted the haters lol. I absolutely love my Tripp trapp because of the newborn attachment, so my little baby can sit up at the table with us.
Thread: "Best High Chair?"
The Stokke Tripp Trapp is pretty highly regarded. It's a bit pricey and all accessories are sold separately, but it's quite comfortable for our baby. Both the seat and the foot rest are adjustable, so it can be used for a very long time.
Thread: "What made you choose your high chair?"
I chose the Stokke Tripp Trapp three years ago because 1) I needed something that could pull directly up to the table, as I don’t have space for a separate chair in our kitchen or dining room, 2) I liked the grow-with-me design and didn’t want to be buying booster seats etc, and 3) I like the way they look! I’ve liked the Tripp Trapp so much that I bought another one for my younger kid, so now we have two and both are great. The major complaint that folks have is that the baby seat straps are fussy and the baby seat has some crevices that are hard to clean—both are totally legit complaints. Neither really bugged me at all cuz I’m a safety-lax dirtbag who didn’t always clip her babies in, and my dog licks my high chairs “clean enough” for me 😆 Edit to add: do as I say, not as I do—definitely strap kids into their high chairs!! Don’t be lazy like me!
Thread: "Unpopular opinion- I hate the Tripp trap "
The only thing I hate about it is that I always seem to stub my toe on the legs. Not that it hurts, but it kinda trips you up
Thread: "Get that IKEA high chair"
For another prospective, I absolutely disagree. I mean it's really really good for the price but I hate using it at the grandparents houses. I hate taking the tray off, I hate tripping over the legs, I hate the third party footrests, and my 12mo is a chunky guy and is 2lbs away from the weight limit so we'd be stuck in a weird spot before he's ready to be a in toddler seat at the table but still needing another high chair. The tripp trapp is the splurge baby item I would get time and time again. There are plenty of other things that I'm like yeah we really didn't need that brand or to spend that much but I absolutely don't feel that way about the tripp trapp.
Thread: "How do you like your ikea high chair?"
I love it. Cheap and cheerful, easily adjustable, you’re going to encounter it out in the wild at restaurants too. You could literally spend 10x as much on a trip trap but why? Alternatively, START with the ikea. If you hate it then buy another one. On and get the inflatable pillow for your little one when they’re still smooshy small.
Thread: "De-Influence me from the Tripp Trapp"
I have a picky eater 3rd centile baby…. I’m so sorry but I have to say, the Tripp trapp was the only thing that works for her and the reason is because the seat is short, so the space between her little bum and the edge of the seat where her legs can fold over is perfect. It’s shorter than other chairs I’ve seen and tested (sadly after a very expensive peg perego) also for us the Ikea high chair was too deep of a seat. The TT also has adjustable foot rest. I also use the cushions which adds padding for her. The part I also really like is without the tray she can sit and eat right at the table with us. My best advice is … check out stores nearby who may rent it!! We actually rented it for two weeks before committing it buying it from a specialized baby store. I understand the plight of finding a good chair… I’m sorry and wish you so much luck !!
Thread: "Tripp Trapp or IKEA Antilop?"
In conclusion, the IKEA one is a trip trap and the Tripp Trapp has bad straps
Thread: "gnoring the price, which highchair do you recommend the most"
You either get the IKEA antilop or the Stokke Tripp Trapp, there’s no in between. The ones with the padded cushions are fine, but now difficult to clean, and food gets in all the crevices.
Thread: "Why does everyone love the IKEA high chairs?"
Oh man, we loved it! It does take some getting used to the legs, I’ll give you that. But we did baby led weaning which was soooooooo messy and we could just take the whole damn chair outside and hose it off. Even fits in our dishwasher. No nooks and crannies to clean out, no fabric to take off and wash... We have the Tripp trapp now but will use the ikea one again with baby #2 until they are a little less messy and we can get them a Stokke chair as well. I also love the ikea one can be broken down, I loaned it out to multiple friends doing cake smashes at birthdays 🤷♀️ but one thing I’ve learned is people will swear by a baby product that I don’t like one bit. Everything is so baby/parent dependent that I find it very hard to tell people they *have* to have some product, since I’ve been told so many things were amazing that just didn’t work for us. So, at least it wasn’t a $300 high chair you hated!
Thread: "High Chairs that DONT suck?"
I really like the Stokke Tripp Trapp. I got mine second hand since they are very expensive. I have two sets of cushions for it but I got an off brand cushion that's much more moisture repellant and it is easy to wipe clean. Also has a newborn attachment and very adjustable. Just $$$
Thread: "What high chair do you use?"
I have a 3yo and we've used the Tripp Trapp since she was 6 months old. I found the cushion and harness of the baby set a bit difficult to clean, but the actual wood seat has been great. I like how adjustable it is and it fit nicely in our small dining room.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
I bought 2 used, and they are still in use by my now 3 and 6 year olds. It’s really good to support posture!
Thread: "Cybex Lemo / Mockingbird / Tripp Trapp"
Another Tripp Trapp vote. Also want to add, I know the internet is full of people who can't figure out how to clean the Tripp Trapp? I do not understand them at all. Its solid wood-- you just wipe it down. We are six years in on a used one. As for suction, when buying your baby plate you get things that say "suctions to the Tripp Trapp." EzPz works and so does the Bumkins on Amazon. IMO it took like an extra 3 seconds of google, I bought two sets, and both worked totally fine.
Thread: "High chairs"
We have the ikea one and it’s amazing. I can’t imagine how it could break on someone. It’s incredibly sturdy. It’s super simple. Quick to take apart and bring to someone’s house if needed. Super easy to clean. Pretty compact. I was debating between ikea or the Tripp trapp and I figured I’d get the ikea first and if I hated it I’d get the Tripp trapp. But instead I completely loved the ikea one and I’m so glad I didn’t spend money on the other!
Thread: "need help finding the best high chair for 2026"
Only two words required here: Tripp Trapp. My only tip would be to measure your table or borrow a friends to see if it fits under your dining table without the tray, so you can use it later on as a dining chair. Otherwise, it’s just a high quality and flexible high chair.
Thread: "best high chair recommendations - completely overwhelmed"
We have a trip trapp and are still using it with our 2.5 year old. It’s easy to clean, adjustable and most importantly a compact foot print that doesn’t have widely spaced my clumsy ass would trip over. They’re expensive new but you can also pick up used ones on marketplace.
Thread: "High Chair Recommendations please which do I want and which to avoid"
We have a Tripp trapp and while it’s expensive we definitely love it. It’s not difficult to clean imo My parents bought a joie 6-in-1 for when we’re at theirs and that’s equally fantastic as its convertible to a table and a chair for when she’s older.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
I have the Ikea one and it's great, very simple, easy to clean, nothing wrong with it. I am thinking about getting the Tripp Trapp as my baby gets older but I would definitely buy it used.
Thread: "High chair PSA! Don’t buy this high chair!!"
I have a year to find another second hand trip trap (or 2 if I skip the baby set). Boy do I love those chairs!!!
Thread: "Highchairs: Ikea vs stokke"
I have both and liked both. That said, if you’re looking at a Tripp trapp dupe that costs just slightly more than the $30 ikea chair, it’s likely to be complete garbage. If you can’t afford a used Tripp trapp, get the ikea chair.
Thread: "Unpopular opinion- I hate the Tripp trap "
We have both. The $180 Tripp trap was rejected many many times in favor of the ikea Antilop by our toddler. Now it’s in the garage. I’m only clinging on to the Tripp trap in case our second refuses the Antilop. 😒 my garage is like a furniture and stroller store storage room, waiting to see which models are acceptable to the next kid.
Thread: "I’m interested to see why the Ikea high chair gets much good ratings?"
Stoke Tripp trapp, second hand if you’re on a budget. The biggest thing for me is proper seating position while eating. I hated the bucket seat on ikea ones and a little baby wouldn’t sit properly in it. I don’t want anything padded as it’s harder to clean and they are only in there for a meal
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
We bought a Tripp Trapp when my son was about 22 months because he refused to sit in his high chair. He has no problem sitting on the Tripp Trapp! (Currently 28 months) I wish we had gotten it sooner.
Thread: "Tripp Trapp or IKEA Antilop?"
I have a Tripp Trapp, my parents have the Antilop. Dear god, I hate that Antilop so much. Everyone fucking trips on it. Doesn’t matter if it’s tucked in the corner, the legs suddenly find their way to trip you. But it is good for the price and easy to clean so there’s that. If you have a large dining area, go for the Antilop. If you care about longevity and your toes, go for the Tripp Trapp.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
Really hates parents. Also the tray is a nightmare if you want to use "stick on" plates and such.
Thread: "What high chair do you use?"
Love my Tripp Trapp. I dunno what everyone’s (on other threads) issue is cleaning it, it seems pretty easy since it’s just flat wood?? I have the padded baby bits, I throw them in the wash when they get bad. I wash the tray after he eats and the baby set and straps maybe once every week or two, just in my sink with a sponge and Dawn. The Catchy is LIFESAVING. I have a 99th %ile baby so I liked that it has a near-infinite weight limit, and I love that it pulls up to the table when we don’t use the tray. Feels like a long-term investment piece and I’ve been very happy with it!
Thread: "Recommendations for high chairs?"
We have the Abiie Beyond Wooden High Chair (got it from Amazon). It looks great, has a pretty small footprint, and is super easy to clean. We love it! I got it because it seemed like a cheaper version of the Stokke Tripp Trapp - which I really coveted, but had trouble stomaching the price. We went on vacation and the beach house actually had a Tripp Trapp there, so I got to try it. Turns out, I think I’m happier with the Abiie! It seems easier to get Little Dude in and out of, and more easily adjustable. We have only had it for a few months, but I’m totally into it and it seems it will last us a good long time!!
Thread: "Do you love or hate the Stokke Tripp Trapp?"
I cannot believe we put such an expensive item on our registry (now that I have my kids and realize how expensive they are!) but I am very grateful for our family who got it for us. I would probably get something less expensive and easier if I were to do it again.
Thread: "High chair recommendations other than Tripp Trapp"
We have the Tripp trapp and never used the tray (nor bought it). Baby is right up to the table the whole time. It’s been awesome and easy for us to clean. Still using it at 4. We also never used the straps because the bucket design keeps them in well.
Thread: "Overwhelmed by all of the high chair options "
Just curious, why do you specifically not want the IKEA high chair? Is it because you are suspicious of the low price, or do you think it may not function as well as a different chair, or is it because of the way that it looks? I’m genuinely curious. Edit to add: I am a baby registry consultant, and something that has been pretty consistent with my clients who are on a budget, is that whenever I add the IKEA antelope high chair (which I myself have 2 of) to their registry, they switch it out for a random mid-range priced highchair, usually one that’s between $80-$100. So my question is why? There is absolutely a reason that people keep recommending the $400+ highchairs or the $20 IKEA highchair, and the reason is because they are worth it. The Stokke Trip Trap, for instance, is a highchair that grows with your child from birth until they are 100 years old, you are purchasing a piece of furniture that you can use forever. The IKEA antelope highchair is worth it because it is inexpensive, easy to clean, does the job and can be stored away for the next kid, and if it breaks, it is easy to replace. The mid range highchairs, imho, are for those who don’t know about baby gear yet. They all accomplish the same things that are expected of a highchair, which one is right for you depends on your priorities, preferences, budget and style.
Thread: "Tripp Trapp or IKEA Antilop?"
The Tripp Trapp can last much longer than the Antilop. In theory, your child will never grow out of it. In reality, some kids want to switch to a regular chair sooner so once they grow out of the Antilop you’d be fine. From my perspective as someone who works in early intervention and is trained in feeding therapy, a supportive seating arrangement is SO important! So we have the Tripp Trapp for my daughter and kept the baby seat on until she turned 3 a couple weeks ago. Keeping the baby seat on helped her stay seated for meals. Now she uses it as her chair and knows this is her special seat. We only have 2 other chairs at the table where we eat (one for mom and one for dad) so there’s no option of sitting elsewhere. This has worked well for us. I can absolutely notice a difference in how well she eats meals when in her Tripp trapp vs in an adult chair, sitting on the ground, or out and about. I plan on using the Tripp Trapp at meals as long as possible and potentially using it for a desk chair for my daughter after that. I also love how you can use the Tripp trapp without the tray so the child can more easily be part of the table/meal. The Antilop doesn’t have that feature. My vote is Tripp Trapp because it’s a great investment! That said, Antilop with the added accessories is not a bad option for the first year of solids or so.
Thread: "Do you love or hate the Stokke Tripp Trapp?"
I love mine. Used it with both my kids and never had any issues. They’re still using them (5 and 2).
Thread: "Why do we actually bother with high chairs? (as opposed to booster seats)"
We have the Stokke Tripptrapp for this reason, it kind of just let's them sit at the table that we adults eat from with no tray etc. I found it important to install that 'you're part of this table like everyone else' notion from day 1 (we also have the newborn attachment)
Thread: "De-Influence me from the Tripp Trapp"
We used the cheap Ikea high chair for my small (~5th percentile at the time) baby. Worked a dream and the only reason we stopped was because we got a Tripp Trapp chair from the thrift store. She's 3.5 now and will be using it for the foreseeable future as its rated up to 250 lbs!
Thread: "High chair recommendations?"
Stokke Tripp Trapp. They are pricey, but you can find used ones for half the price. They grow with your kiddo, the seat and foot rest can be adjusted. My 7 month old wouldn’t use the first high chair we got him, but loves this one.
Thread: "High chair advice"
Basically these threads always come down to two options, the Tripp Trapp at the high-end and the Ikea Antilop at the cheaper end.
Thread: "Cybex Lemo / Mockingbird / Tripp Trapp"
The people who can’t clean the Tripp trapp also confuse me. Glad I’m not the only one perplexed by this seemingly common issue 😅 Also, OP, we never used the tray. We just pushed it up to our dining table from day one so we didn’t need to worry about things suctioning (or not) to the tray!
Thread: "Overrated and underrated high chairs"
The stokke trip trap is overrated. Maybe the new, updated one is better but I got mine about a year ago and the straps are an absolute nightmare. I did my best adjusting them but they’re still not right for my 11 month old
Thread: "Get that IKEA high chair"
I was obsessed with the newborn attachment, whole reason i bought the chair
Thread: "The Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair: An Honest Review"
Love the Tripp Trapp and don't find the straps to be an issue. We use a pocket bib and it covers them up so they rarely get anything on them at all, and I just wipe them with a damp cloth. I find it a bit ridiculous to say the product sucks when that's your only issue with it.
Thread: "Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair actually worth it?"
The newborn attachment was the single best thing I bought for my second baby. Meal times were actually enjoyable for the first \~5 months.
Thread: "The Stokke Tripp Trapp High Chair: An Honest Review"
I have bought 4 different high chairs (for one child) and the Tripp trapp is a godsend. Are the straps near impossible, yes. Should I use them more than I do? Yes.. and I don’t because they are impossible. Does it stay as clean as it should, probably not. But it is for sure without a doubt the best chair out there.
