We got the Bugaboo Giraffe. It was between that and a Tripp Trapp, but I prefer the look of the Giraffe, plus it’s a bit lighter and has a slightly smaller footprint. Also quickly want to acknowledge that it’s bloody expensive. We were lucky to receive some generous Baby Bunting gift cards that we saved up, plus I spent a lot of time researching and finding all of the parts online for the best price, which BB were happy to beat. Very happy with it so far!

Thread: "Unpopular opinion- I hate the Tripp trap "

I have a Bugaboo Giraffe and don’t hate it, but yeah it is hard to put baby in. He just won’t bend his little legs to go in the leg holes so it’s a balancing act holding him securely while bending them to get him seated. I don’t know if that’s what you mean about the Tripp Trap as well. I got the Giraffe because it requires no tools to adjust, you just press buttons on the sides of the footrest and you can slide it up or down. You do have to purchase padding for it separately but the padding and buckles/straps are fairly easy to remove to machine wash so I just do that about every week or so. For the actual chair, I scrub it down with a wet sponge and that gets any stuck on food off quickly. My only complaint is the tray seems kind of small but that makes it easy to remove and wash off in the kitchen sink. It’s pretty light and easy to move around, but idk what would make the Tripp Trap hard to move.

Literally LOVE my bugaboo giraffe. Went to snugglebugz and tried out all the chairs with my little one and went with the giraffe over the tripp trap because the base was smaller, it was easier to do the straps (though apparently they have upgraded the trip trapp straps since), and the foot rest is so easy to adjust. I’ve been using my high chair since my gal was 6 months - she’s 18 months now, and we loveeee this chair. So easy to move beteeen our kitchen and dining room, small tray that can easily be cleaned in the sink, sturdy, easy to clean, will convert into a toddler chair eventually (holds 220lbs). I am pregnant with my second and will definitely be getting a second one for him. We skipped the pillow (a separate buy) - less to clean. We tried the ikea at my parents place and it’s legit the worst. I also have an old clunky beast of graco handmedown that is covered in cushion and is a terrible pain to clean. And we have a fancy Amazon chair at our cottage. None of them compare to the Giraffe. If you have a store like Snugglebugz or Westcoast kids near you, I definitely encourage taking your baby/toddler to try it out. My literal only complaint is it takes a bit of practice getting my gal in and out of it as she’s getting older. But she’s a pro and knows to straighten her legs so they don’t catch.

It's expensive but our Bugaboo Giraffe was the best purchase ever. My dining room is very narrow, and I about threw our Ingenuity chair out the door the amount of times I almost tripped and broke my neck on it. Went out to go see all the lower profile highchairs and was like I'm going to buy the one that won't kill me and figure out paying for it later (😂) and fell in love with the Giraffe. It doesn't require any tools to adjust the seat or foot rest, has low profile legs, and can seat kids for many years (converts to a regular chair and holds up to 220lbs).

If your willing to spend tripp trapp money, have a look at the bugaboo giraffe. That's what we ended up getting and really like it so far (baby is only 11 months). We chose it because the tray could go in the dishwasher, and had heard that the Tripp Trapp isn't very supportive while they are young.

Thread: "What made you choose your high chair?"

We got the Bugaboo Giraffe on our registry. It has a small footprint which we needed in our house. It’s not an eyesore and it grows with baby and you can just use it as a chair. It’s pricey but nice. Annoying though we had to buy the cushion for it as it’s not included. The tray is close to my nearly 6 month old. We haven’t started feeding yet, but we put him in it and give him teethers and he can reach everywhere.

We have the bugaboo giraffe and love it. I find it was easier to clean than the Tripp trapp (the tray actually comes off easily and it’s not weird on the bottom) and it has quite a small footprint so I don’t trip in it (often).

Thread: "I’m interested to see why the Ikea high chair gets much good ratings?"

I *hated* my Ikea one. Even after I bought all the expensive accessories for it. Ended up with a Bugaboo Giraffe and I'm obsessed with it, even 6 months later. It's very expensive though. Also we swapped out the Bugaboo harness for a silicone one. You want a silicone harness. I don't know why silicone harnesses aren't standard. I wanted the Mockingbird highchair which comes with a silicone harness, but they don't sell it in Australia 😕 The Mockingbird highchair honestly looks like the best highchair I've ever seen, and I've done a lot of research on highchairs lol. Still bitter about not being able to get that one... 😅 Edit because I forgot to mention: my son also hated the IKEA, so much so that he would barely eat anything. The first time he sat in the Bugaboo, was the first time he ate a meal without screaming. The silicone harness I got was the "Tripp Trapp Roka Harness". It's not supposed to fit the Bugaboo Giraffe but we made it work.

Baby bjorn if you can get one from marketplace. It makes the ikea ones seem so hard to clean. And difficult to but in. We used it from 4-20 months and then moved to the mock version of the trippe trappe until about 4. I really didnt like the ikea one for everday use. My babies just never seemed comfortable in them. I'd look.for a mouded plastic one that is more supportive or a the mocka version of the trippe trapp. By the time you get all the accessories to make it reasonably supportive you might as well buy one with foot rests and trays. The phil and teds poppy or bugaboo giraffe look great

Adding another point for the Giraffe! It's so easy to use/move/adjust/clean, and aesthetically pleasing is the cherry on top. I really notice a difference in my little ones' seating position (more upright) as compared to the one my in laws have for him at their house. It's pricey and took months of convincing my partner but even he agrees it was a good purchase!

The bugaboo giraffe is pretty pricey too once you add in the baby set - it ends up being v similar in price to the Tripp trapp. It also recently had a safety issue / recall which is why it’s showing up as sold out everywhere. We have the Tripp trapp and like it but I did manage to get it off FB marketplace. We also don’t have the tray and just sit bubs straight at the table. It’s a pretty long term item to buy as they will eventually sit in it 3 times a day for all meals and for many years. We have the ikea one at my mums and it’s also used at most restaurant. Def easy to clean. We actually never use the safety harness on our Tripp trapp but perhaps that’ll change if my 1 yo starts trying to climb out of the highchair.

Copying what I’ve said on other posts! My parents have the Tripp trapp at their house for my son and I have the bugaboo giraffe. I prefer how easy it is to adjust the seat and footboard on the giraffe. The tray for the tripp trapp is a little finicky but fine once you get used to it. The giraffe is also lighter weight. Both are great space wise—people I know have traditional high chairs and the footprint is insane on those. That said, at the similar price points you really can’t go wrong with either!

Thread: "Is a Tripp Trapp REALLY worth it! [ca]"

I sold our Tripp Trapp for what I paid for it and got the Evolve instead! It feels maybe a *touch* less ergonomic, but still way better than most chairs. It is also easier to adjust, easier to clean, things suction to the tray, the straps are easy to use, it folds up to be a bit more out of the way, bottom of legs are lined so it stays put solidly but is gentle on the flooring, baby can assist with climbing to the seat once they are older (promotes early independence), and the pieces snap in and out in 2 seconds to convert to a kitchen helper. (The last bit is what sold us on this chair vs other options - we don't have a lot of space so the multi use is nice.) The Tripp Trapp was fine and we could have gotten years of use out of it, but I'm definitely glad to have tried something else. All the competitors (Aiibe Beyond, Bugaboo Giraffe, Ergobaby Evolve) are $$$ with comparable price points to Stokke but IMO they all improve on the little annoyances that come with the Tripp Trapp. I think you're onto something with their marketing - it was the only chair of its kind for a long time, and there is lots that is great about it and a reason it is popular. However I was surprised by some of the QOL issues given the hype (Why do I need an Allan key to adjust the footrest? Why is the tray so hard to remove? Why is the underside of the tray designed to collect so much food? Why are the straps... the way they are?) Lol. When I was pregnant some of these newer chairs hadn't even been released yet so I think the market might change a bit in the coming years.
