I’d get the plastic pigeon bottles personally. The minimal exposure at daycare is a safe enough “risk” for me to take for the benefits of not developing a shallow latch. Use your normal glass bottles or breastfeed normally when at home/on the weekends. Babies for years have used plastic bottles and I know it’s not the greatest but the bottles alone are not causing any diseases or issues, it’s a systemic issue of allllll the plastics in the world. Not just baby bottles. A drop in the ocean of the problem so to speak. Your baby will be just fine, don’t beat yourself up over it, use the plastic bottles, you’ll have less worries about latch etc.

Per our LC: The best nipple shape for mimicking baby’s latch are the kinds that go wide to narrow, not the ones that look breast like (such as como tomo). Maybe OK for newborns but not keen on them as baby gets older and starts to feed themselves. Having visions of them bonking themselves in the face or dropping them on the floor! I highly rate Pigeon bottles for what it’s worth.

We used pigeon soft touch whilst doing a mix of pumping and breastfeeding. Also have a look into pace feeding bottles which will help avoid a bottle preference.

We went with pigeon wide neck in glass. I have plastic for daycare and travelling (like going on the plane, because it's lighter). Since they're the same the teats are interchangeable. The glass have been great. So easy to clean, don't need replacing, no discolouration. I'll on sell them when we're finished. Bit more expensive upfront but we've been on bottles since day one and they hold up well. Highly recommend.

Pigeon are really good. We used the wide neck ones and really liked them, although we also used the little slim bottles early on as well. I personally found he threw up less violently when we switched to pigeon bottles from tommee tippee and no name ones. Tommee tippee the flow was way too fast until he was about 8 months old.

Depends on how you’re planning on feeding. If you’re planning on exclusively bottle feeding glass would be better in the long run because has less chance of the bottle leaching chemicals or microplastics, easier to clean, more durable over time and have better heat ratings (if formula feeding you will need to sterilise after every use and you’ll have more options on how to do that being a higher heat rating). On the other hand if you’re planning to breast feed with the occasional bottle I personally use plastic and it is fine. My bub is EBF but will take a BM bottle here and there and we use the plastic pigeon ones with no issue. I think the pigeon wide neck are raved about for BF babies as they are similar to the nipple and a lot of people have luck with getting a BF baby to take these. That said a lot of BF babies also won’t take them. Bottles are truly a personal preference thing for babies and sometimes are a hit and miss on what babies will take If you haven’t had Bub yet and are looking into what options you have for bottles I would get 2 different types to start off with to try and see if Bub takes to them. If you’re planning on BF or mixed feeding I would just get 1 of each to start and then once you know bubs preference I would stock up. If you’re planning to formula feed I would get 2 or 3 of each bottle and have an easy sterilisation method handy (microwave bags are great in the beginning especially if you’re in hospital still) and pick 2 different brands of bottles that are readily available to you and once you know what bub will take you can send someone out to stock up on more.

I’m so sorry😢 some people in my moms group said their LC recommended Lansinoh bottle with a Pigeon nipple. Also maybe a syringe if daycare is willing to do it- I have a 20 ml one and if you can get them to suck on a finger or paci then get a couple ounces in with the syringe. I’d also start trying straw cups, sippy cups, open cups, etc. I’m not sure if this is recommended or not, but if there’s anyway you could swing by during your lunch for a feed, and a feed in the parking lot before you take her in I’d probably do that as well.

The Pigeon and Lansinoh nipples are interchangeable with one another. I have used both. I haven’t had my Pigeon bottles tested for lead. I did buy glass Maymom bottles and collars to use with Pigeon nipples, and I requested their lead testing report. They sent me all of their testing results. Of course, Maymom could have sent me whatever they want, but hopefully it was legitimate. I also swabbed them at home but I know that’s not as reliable.

Lansinoh is notorious for having a faster flow than most other nipples on the market. I would opt for pigeon nipples instead. They fit the same as Lansinoh but have a much slower flow rate. I will also second the recommendation for Evenflo. That’s what we use and it’s the only bottle LO will take.

We use pigeon nipples (best for avoiding nipple confusion) with gulicola glass bottles. They etch their measurement lines into the glass rather than use paint which limits lead risk.

Pigeon nipples (Japanese brand, search on Amazon) for our 5 month old son who has a mild tongue tie. We were struggling with bottle refusal and these were a game changer. We have the 3 month+ although I maybe should’ve tried 0+, given the other comments.

Yes! That was us with our 1 month old. Philips Avent nipple's hole needs to be aligned with the notch on the ring for it to work properly. Our baby was getting tired after sucking on the nipple for hours and not getting anything as the notch trick is a hit or miss. Finally started using pigeon nipple (3+ months)with avent bottle and works fine for her now! #touchwood

We were given tommee tippee bottles which “fail” all the tests, however I’ve been mixed feeding perfectly fine between those bottles and boob. I was going to get the pigeon soft touch, but the TT ones ended up working just fine. I also have a Nuk Perfect Match and Avent one and haven’t even used them. It’s baby and mum dependant but I was so caught up on all the “perfect” bottle when I didn’t need to be! I’ve just made sure I’ve been pace feeding when she gets a bottle and keeping a slow flow teat on and have been able to switch fine between boob & TT (even immediately within the same feed).

I was very close to grabbing my brake bleeder from the garage and trying to measure the PSI it took to pull formula through with the notch aligned and not aligned. I swear I saw some official Phillips material saying they should be aligned, but it could have been an exhaustion induced hallucination. Everyone is gonna tell you something different that worked for them, but we ended up settling on Pigeon bottles. The nipple shape is great, and my little guy can latch onto them really easily. Everything else leaked out of his mouth like crazy.

I've used a lot of glass bottles, and still do. I have a 1 year old and we've done through a lot. Gulicola on Amazon is awesome, but if you can find Evenflo Balance Wide in glass... even better. Evenflo ones were my favorite! Eta; Gulicola, Evenflo and Pigeon bottles are all wide mouth so any wide mouth nips will fit. If you stick with "wide mouth" which is typically what is recommended by SLP and Peds for oral development, you can buy the same nips. I prefer Pigeon nips because they are sooooo much softer than Lansinoh... and my 1 year old with 8 teeth has not broken any of the Pigeon nips with his fangs!!!

Have you tried Pigeon nipples? They have a different feel than any other nipples I’ve ever seen - much less plasticky. As for success stories - on day 1 of daycare my son would still only take .5 oz from a bottle, at best. But by day 2, he was taking full bottles without a problem and has been fine ever since. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I am a bit of a failure on that aspect. I ended up pumping and wanted to re-introduce breastfeeding. My husband fed the baby overnight with Pigeon SofTouch. However baby never really latched on breast every time I tried, so I ended up exclusively pumping. He got fussy and screamed when I tried to put him on the breast, so I felt bad and just gave up. Husband didn't pace feed at night and baby learned the convenience of chugging lol.

We use a variety and they’ve all been fine. A lactation consultant saw me with the pigeon soft touch and was like what is this fancy thing? The narrow neck is fine too. From what she said it’s less an issue than people think to swap between breast and bottle as long as you use paced bottle feeding.

We use Pigeon SS too. Yeah, if you just tilt the Lansinoh “slow flow” and see how fast the liquid comes out… no way is that a slow flow nipple.

You might be able to find a pump adapter to make it work, it'd be a bit of a franken-bottle but I'm about to test it with a different combo, I'm trying to use pigeon nipples with the boon silicone bottle. I found an adapter that adapts avent to boon and a nipple ring that works for pigeon nipples on an avent bottle. So if my logic works pigeon nipple goes into the ring that attaches the avent side of the adapter, then the boon side attaches to the boon bottle. You can probably find an avent-nanobebe adapter and use the same ring so that it would be pigeon/lansinoh nipple going into the avent compatible ring, avent to nanobebe adapter, nanobebe bottle.

For preserving breastfeeding LCs advise only pigeon, Lansinoh or Evenflo nipples I already had glass avent bottles which are compatible with pigeon (though I've had many issues with the nipple popping out or leaking). Glass pigeon and Lansinoh (same manufacturer) have lead paint. If you want to try silicone (I like for on the go /diaper bag) pigeon nipples are compatible with nanobebe bottles Evenflos are impossible to find (the right kind for bfing)

My baby had to do feeding therapy for a bit when he was little and his feeding therapist specifically recommended either Lasinoh, Evenflo Balance Plus, or Pigeon for babies who are both bottle and breast fed. Those bottle have the most “real” nipple shapes!

We have a mix of all three types of the pigeon wide neck right now. Started with glass, and I do like them better, and have got a few PPSU and one PP one floating around now. I got them for eventually sending to daycare when sourcing a replacement for some glass ones I managed to break (a me problem). I think the biggest possible pro for glass (beyond just straight up they’re not plastic if you don’t like plastic) is they don’t have a limited lifespan, you won’t need to replace them after 6-12 months like others. If you had multiple children, then I suppose it could work out to be cheaper in the long run to use glass than replacing plastic multiple times. It’s also easier to heat and/or cool them in a mug of water or by running under the tap etc if you need to adjust the milk temp, because glass conducts heat better than plastic. I likely wouldn’t have noticed this if I wasn’t using multiple types at the same time, so no big deal really.

Pigeon bottles have a similar shape but a slower flow and also have a glass option. We were using Lansinoh but baby was getting frustrated with slower flow at the breast and we switched to pigeon on advice of our LC

Our oral therapist said the Lansinoh bottles slow nipples are actually fast paced. We were told not to use them for our 16 week old that we are trying to transition to breast. We’ve been using pigeon bottles with ss. Basic same shape, slower flow than Lansinoh

If you’re pregnant and looking at bottle options, I’d just buy one PPSU pigeon softouch (which we now use and I highly recommend) and one other (more traditionally shaped) bottle and leave it at that until baby arrives. You’d be really surprised how many babies refuse bottles for months or move straight to a cup when you start solids.

This is absolutely incredible! I'm 5 months pregnant and planning on using the nanobebe breastfeeding bottle (my last baby loved them and they were super easy to clean. However, I'd love to use a lansinoh or pigeon nipple bath bounds want to but them and it not work. From my research it looks like I'm beat though. Which sucks. But this will help me choose a different bottle/nipple combo. Thank you so much!

I don’t believe there is anything wrong with the bottles. The lactation consultant suggested going with the pigeon nipple which has a much slower feed rate and that has been working great for us. Perhaps before ditching the bottle try a different nipple to swap in!

Did you find the Lansinoh nipples to be as soft as the Pigeon nipples? For example, the nipples that come with the spectra pump look just like pigeon nipples, however they are significantly harder. Pigeon nipples are nice and soft, was wondering if lansinoh was the same. Thank you!

Yes! Definitely the SS pigeon nipples are slower. My baby is definitely in-between the two. I might have to invest in the S nipples because SS wears her out.

Pigeon nipples work with Chicco Duos, although I just saw someone say the Chiccos are out of stock everywhere right now. If you're willing to spend the money, they also fit Pura Kiki stainless steel bottles, although it's a bit of a tight fit, so you'd want to make sure they were still venting ok. I'd probably get the Pigeon plastic bottles for the short term and just do your best to avoid overheating them, and then get the Chiccos once they're back in stock. Or get the Puras, I guess. We use ours with the straw lid for water now, so they grow with your baby, if that helps you get past the price.
