  • Durable glass option withstands drops without damage
  • Compatible with Spectra pump for easy pumping

Cons (−)

  • Some babies struggle to get milk out of the nipples
  • Alignment of the vent with the notch can be tricky

Interesting to read such a strongly negative review set from users - we exclusively used Avent bottles to supplement breast milk and they were great for us. If you’re pumping - their milk storage containers and adapters for pumps are excellent. After we stopped with milk I used them for storing frozen food - they’re a perfect size for a ~12mo dinner.

After trying several bottles in a trial pack, we landed on Philips Avent. We use glass, but if you prefer anti colic ones, they make those too (but plastic). No leaking. Bottles we tried: comotomo (I think they’re overrated + hard to see the markings/how much has been consumed), nanobebe (clear silicone on the markings made it easier to see, eventually the shape drove me a little crazy though), and NUK (was fine, but have read their nipple is not recommended if you are BF) EDIT: With BF you probably don’t want the Philips AVENT colic bottle. Check out their “natural response” bottles (that’s what we use in glass, they also come in plastic), meant to more closely mimic suck if required by breastfeeding. We don’t use the colic ones so didn’t realize they have a different nipple - more like standard bottles.

Yes! This matters so much for the flow. I love using these bottles but I have to make sure the vent lines up. Also have to make sure that it doesn’t move when I tighten the bottle top on.

Started with dr brown but honestly the amount of parts and washing … our baby was very colicky too so I felt like I had no choice. Until I found Avent. At first I tried the anti-colic which worked great until I found the Avent Natural bottles. The nipples have a built in air vent for colic and the shape resemble much like a real nipple so it’s very ergonomic. My baby loves it!!

Philips Avent Natural Response all the way!! Dr Browns leaked for us, Comotomo didn’t last, Boon was too many pieces. Philips Avent are super easy to put together one-handed with a wide neck for pouring/cleaning. Perfect bottles in my opinion after trying several with our two! Worked well for colic/reflux too!

Nah, used bottles are *usually* terrible. They just aren’t designed to be used for more than one baby. You’re lucky the Avent bottles worked, bc I couldn’t even use them for any of my subsequent babies. I love them, but I always had to buy new ones. And the nipples only last a month or two before you’re supposed to replace them. Those are for sure not meant to be handed down. I didn’t like the TT bottles bc they unscrew too easily, but I think your issues with it might just be that you need to get a new one.

We used Phillips Avent glass without any problems, and later switched to Dr. Brown’s glass when we were dealing with gassiness. If you end up using formula, I found it super helpful to premix a batch for the day in a pitcher for the fridge— Bormioli Rocco makes a glass one with a lid that seals.

The key to these bottles (something we learned a few weeks in) is that there’s a subtle notch on the ring that should align with the tiny hole on the nipple. Makes a huge difference in terms of flow.

dr. brown’s wide neck. annoying to wash yes, but the slow flow and shape helps a ton with latch-y babies and gassy ones. avent natural is another super solid option in my opinion if you want something simpler to clean. main thing is always start with slow flow. doesn’t matter if your kid gets impatient, fast flow just makes them choke and then they don’t want to work for the boob anymore. wide nipples also help keep the latch similar so they don’t get confused. and honestly, don’t commit to a whole set right away. get one or two of each and see which one your baby doesn’t immediately reject, [linking a post here](https://www.reddit.com/r/BestOfAmazonHQ/comments/1p7ynu2/review_best_bottle_for_a_breastfed_baby/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) that had a good checklist of what to look for as well

Yeah, we're liking the Philips Avent natural response bottles for our 4.5-month old, we just get the plastic ones. We tried some of their 'anti-colic' bottles at first in a smaller size, but that extra part was an extra step for cleaning, assembling, mixing formula (had to insert it after formula gets mixed, otherwise you can get powder lodged in crevices). I guess my kid doesn't have colic, it's our first so I'm not sure how I'd tell. He seems generally pretty happy, burps maybe once after feeding. The comotomo bottles were kind of aggravating for us, too. Damn expensive, harder to read the numbers, and the shape of the base makes them more likely to fall over.

* I'm a total klutz, our floors are hardwood and tile, and our countertops are that awful ultrahard quartz that destroys anything with the tiniest bump. Our glass bottles (Phillips Avent) made it through baby number one just fine and are on deck for baby number two in a few months. If you're really nervous, you can get [silicone sleeves](https://www.google.com/search?q=silicone+sleeve+for+glass+baby+bottle&sca_esv=b6ab7d9e5410acba&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS1096US1096&ei=0aPcZeOuCPL9ptQPxe2h8AM&oq=silicone+sleeve+for+glass++bottle&gs_lp=Egxnd3Mtd2l6LXNlcnAiIXNpbGljb25lIHNsZWV2ZSBmb3IgZ2xhc3MgIGJvdHRsZSoCCAEyChAAGIAEGIoFGEMyBhAAGAcYHjIGEAAYBxgeMgYQABgHGB4yBhAAGAgYHjIGEAAYCBgeMgYQABgIGB4yBhAAGAgYHjILEAAYgAQYigUYhgMyCxAAGIAEGIoFGIYDSOsRUOICWIIIcAJ4AZABAJgBYKABtAGqAQEyuAEDyAEA-AEBmAIEoALDAcICChAAGEcY1gQYsAPCAggQABgIGAcYHpgDAIgGAZAGCJIHATQ&sclient=gws-wiz-serp) or go for [Chicco Duo](https://www.chiccousa.com/duo-bottle/), which has a plastic outer for lightness and durability and a glass inner lining to protect against microplastics contamination. * Of course glass can go in the dishwasher; you use it for your water glasses, don't you? It's actually far more dishwasher-safe than plastic. * Bottle nipples are silicone and sometimes latex rubber.

If you’re exclusively bottle feeding, there’s not really a reason to use them - but even for supplementing breastmilk, we used a size 2 nipple. If you want to use the bottles you have, get some faster nipple (like 2 sizes up) and it’ll be fine. They’re designed to make them work (they have a y-shaped cut instead of a hole, so milk only comes out if they apply suction or kind of bite the nipple, which is why you’re perceiving it as so much more work. It is more work for them, and if they aren’t used to it, it’ll take them longer, too.

You often don’t have too many different choices for nipple shape for a given bottle, so if you end up needing different nipples you might need different bottles entirely. For that reason, it might be best to wait until the baby is here to purchase the bulk of your bottles. Babylist has a glass bottle variety pack that would let you try different options. I’ve been happy with our glass Avent bottles. Some lactation consultants don’t like the shape of the nipple for breastfeeding, but that hasn’t been a problem for us (ebf with the very occasional bottle) and isn’t relevant to you anyway.

I don’t know if any anti-colic bottle makes a huge difference. Btw - “anti-colic” is a misnomer, it’s basically anti-air. I used Dr. Brown’s and Philips Avent anti colic and my baby still had a lot of gas until about 4 months. We just gave her gas drops about once a day. Now she’s 5 months and it’s not an issue. I personally think it just takes time, but it can help to reduce the air in the milk. It’s just not going to be a miracle fix.

Nuk and Philips Avent Natural, both glass. The Avent had a recall for a small number for lead paint a few years ago. But that is only for the ones with painted exteriors, and again, a small number. Since I am heating bottles from cold to warm, I do not trust silicone; it's not yet proven that silicone doesn't leach chemicals when heated. Plastic is completely out of the question. I considered stainless steel, but I like being able to see how much formula is in the bottle. I have one small Lifefactory bottle and had considered buying several before the birth, as I found them so attractive. But, I am glad I reconsidered because I dislike that the measurements are only listed on the silicone sleeve and not on the bottle. Also, I find the nipples on the Nuk and Philips Avent far superior.
