NUK Bottles

NUK bottles are designed for infants and come in various styles, including the Simply Natural and Perfect Match models. They feature orthodontic nipples intended to reduce nipple confusion for breastfed babies.

Updated June 2026 · ranked from real Reddit discussions

Pros (+)

  • Many babies accept the nipples easily
  • Orthodontic design helps reduce nipple confusion
  • Glass options available for parents concerned about plastic

Cons (−)

  • Some babies reject the nipple shape
  • Flow issues reported by several parents
  • Not all models fit well with standard bottle warmers

Why parents like it

Many parents find that the NUK Simply Natural bottles are the only ones their breastfed babies will accept. The orthodontic design is frequently praised for minimizing nipple confusion.

Common complaints

Some parents report that their babies reject the NUK bottles due to the nipple shape. Others mention issues with flow, stating that their babies struggle to get enough milk out of them.

Best for

Parents looking for bottles that mimic breastfeeding for their infants. However, the tradeoff is that not every baby will accept the NUK design.

Bottom line

NUK bottles work well for many infants, but some babies may reject them due to nipple shape and flow issues.

I have glass Nuk bottles. I haven't broken a single one, if that's a concern for you. I feel like I can clean them a lot better than plastic ones. Also, I just don't like plastic *shrug*

It was awful. I pretty much spent last week and weekend freaking out about how I was going to have to quit my job that I’m supposed to return to next week. She wouldn’t take a single ounce and just cried hysterically and I was called to pick her up after two hours every day last week. Then we tried the Nuk Simply Natural and she acts like nothing ever happened and she’s perfectly content at daycare now. Who knows what the heck happened but if she’s happy I’m happy lol.

A narrow neck bottle? I've never heard that reccomended before, it's always been about the shape of the teat. Nuk Perfect Match or lansinoh seem to be most reccomended by lactation consultants. The mam ones aren't reccomended because the shaping the teat but saying that I used them, and my child also had a tongue tie and he got on fine with them.

Hey, I was in a similar place with my youngest. It's frustrating. It took us a month and a lot of trial and error and fighting to get her to take bottles. We tried 13 types/brands of bottles (I bought a few mixed trial packs and borrowed as many as I could from friends/relatives) and the only one she took was the Nuk Simply Natural. She won't even take the Nuk Smooth Flow which are almost identical. She was also picky about temperature, they have to be warm bordering on hot. This guide also really helped me: https://www.rachelobrienibclc.com/blog/what-to-do-when-your-breastfed-baby-wont-take-a-bottle-introducing-a-bottle-part-3/ A common piece of advice is that daycare teachers are magic and its common for babies to not take a bottle drom Mom specifically. So if you don't make progress don't worry too much. You can also reach out to your pediatrician, they have a list of things to try that they can discuss with you. We also met with a feeding specialist to rule out any specific issues (she finally took the bottle 2 days before the appointment. She has a slight tongue and lip tie but they said she was just stubborn)

If the nipple passes the "triangle test," meaning the nipple is in the shape of a triangle, it will encourage a deep latch and promote strong oral development. Evenflo Balance, Dr. Brown's narrow, Lansinoh, Pigeon, NUK perfect match are a few.

We were given tommee tippee bottles which “fail” all the tests, however I’ve been mixed feeding perfectly fine between those bottles and boob. I was going to get the pigeon soft touch, but the TT ones ended up working just fine. I also have a Nuk Perfect Match and Avent one and haven’t even used them. It’s baby and mum dependant but I was so caught up on all the “perfect” bottle when I didn’t need to be! I’ve just made sure I’ve been pace feeding when she gets a bottle and keeping a slow flow teat on and have been able to switch fine between boob & TT (even immediately within the same feed).

NUK perfect match were the only bottle my baby would take after months of bottle refusal. They meet the "triangle test" and are so easy to clean. Teats like those or Lansinoh are definitely what you wanna be getting. Narrow teats don't support oral development and can encourage a shallow latch, which you don't want while breastfeeding.

Thread: "Newborn bottle recs?"

My IBCLC said it was important that the nipple allows for a proper latch for oral development. There’s lots of bottles that allow for a proper latch and don’t encourage shallow latching. Dr browns (the narrow ones, not the wide bottles), Lansinoh, pigeon, nuk perfect match, gulicola, evenflo balance (wide and classic), spectra, munchkin bond, boon curve (not the regular one), quark and there’s more. We use a mix of Lansinoh, pigeon and spectra

I’ve experienced this. Make sure the anti-colic hole is unobstructed. Sometimes milk fats get clogged in there. If that happens during a feeding, I poke my finger into the anti-colic hole, wiggle it around, and that usually does the trick.

Same! And I was just reading and study about the amount of micro plastics that are released when warming/sanitizing the plastic ones. I guess my concern is how sturdy they are (I know life factory has silicone covers), but also if my baby doesn’t like them/won’t use them. Maybe I’ll get one of each brand (I’ll check our Nuk) and see which ones he likes best when he gets here. I’m a FTM so I just don’t know what to expect.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned yet. Nuk perfect match can fit Nuks simply natural glass bottle. The one with white letters. Also evenflo balance wide fits the spectra’s wide collar. The one that comes with the pump. Also grosimmi ppsu bottles, not glass. They’re interchangeable with spectra. Which also means that their straw inserts are interchangeable.

We are also loving the Nuk Perfect Match, not the regular Nuk with its spoon shaped nipple. We got the Babylist trial box and this was the only bottle out of there she really liked and that I didn't have issues with. I really wanted to like the all silicone options to avoid micro plastics but they just didn't work for us. We have some glass evenflo bottles to try but I haven't pulled them out yet, they're so heavy and the Nuk Perfect Match is working, so I bought more. Baby was fine with Dr browns for about a month. This was a blessing because we were gifted a bunch and had to start using bottles on day 2 and I didn't have to overthink it. Now if I fill the 4oz bottles past 3.5 oz she leaks around her mouth. I thought it was my baby's latch, because she'd been leaking on my nipple too, but when I used a big 8oz bottle with 4oz there's barely any leaking. I wanted to like the Mam but I kept getting leaks from the bottom. Tried three times and I just can't be bothered. Similar issues with two different Phillips bottles I tried, though I had some success replacing one nipple with a Lansinoh nipple. The Boon, Nanobebe and Comotomo were too fiddly and odd to fill and my baby didn't like the nipple shapes- just gummed the nubs instead of taking the whole nipple in with a wide mouth.

We went through phases. When he was very small Dr Browns worked best. As he got bigger we transitioned to NUK Simply Natural and Comotomo because baby was less picky and those two are easier to clean.

Apparently the nipple shape of nuk isn’t particularly great for breastfed babies because the baby has to adjust their latch to have their tongue back rather than out/under. I’m not sure if I’ve worded that right but it’s something someone else pointed out here at one point

I tried allll of these bottles, and it turned out the only thing my baby would take was a latex teat, because its texture was closest to skin. They are harder to get hold of, so we used the NUK bottle because it came with the latex teats

I have the same issue with Dr Brown. My LO freaks out when we use them. Two that work for her. The Pigeon bottles (they’re excellent but apparently they have no US marketing budget so I’d never heard of them before) and the Nuk bottles (more affordable option)

Thread: "Frustration with Evenflo Bottles"

I actually just started using Evenflo wide neck bottles this week because they were recommended by my lactation consultant. I was using Dr. Brown’s but they leak so badly that I’m happy to be done with them. So far, eating is a little slower but he’s doing fine with these bottles. The nipple did collapse once when he seemed like he was sucking very hard but no other issues; I actually just ordered more of them. If you’re looking for something similar, the Nuk bottles are also wide but the nipple is a little different and flows a little faster too. I think that would be a good alternative if you want something close to Evenflo that might work better for you.

Thread: "Best bottles for newborns?"

My son was EFF after week one. He likes Nuk Simply Natural bottles. I started with glass for the small bottles but they stopped selling the big glass bottles. So, I tried a few other glass and silicone bottles but he only likes the nipple from Nuk. It’s a different shape and no other bottle makes nipples like that 🫠 I am using Nuk Simply Natural big plastic bottles for him now. I wanted to stick to glass or silicone just as a preference but these have been great. I would say find a bottle with a nipple that is similar to others so if you ever have to switch, it shouldn’t be difficult. Comotomo, Nuk, Tommee Tippee, and Nanobebe are the ones that were most recommended to me. I bought 12 small bottles so I wouldn’t have to stress about constant cleaning. We have the babybrezza 3in1 washer, dryer, sterilizer and it’s incredible. Highly recommend. I currently have 6 big bottles - my son is almost 6 months and drinks 6-8oz every 3-4 hours. I am probably going to get 6 more big ones.

My baby drinks the best out of the Nuk Perfect Match. They’re super soft and malleable and even with his tongue and lip tie he was able to get a great deep latch. He drinks more and spits up less with those. We didn’t want to use plastic bottles so we use the perfect match nipples on tommee tippee silicone bottles. The only thing is I don’t love the vent in the nipple, sometimes it gets stuck closed and I have to fix it mid feed, and I have one vent that leaks but I can’t figure out why. Otherwise we love them.

Thread: "NUK perfect match?"

Yes! We used the Pigeon bottles since baby was rejecting all other bottles (incl. Nuk). He also had a lip and tongue tie that got released. Once released, his feeding improved but he still drank little and very slowly. We increased the Pigeon nipple size, but no change. We then decided to give the NUK perfect match a try since the nipple look and feel was SOOO similar to Pigeon. To our surprise, he actually took it! He needed a few days to adjust to the faster flow but then feeding improved significantly. We bought more bottles and packed our pigeon bottles away. Within the same week of starting the Nuk Perfect Match we managed to increase his intake by 1 ounce per feed. After about 3 weeks, we increased by another ounce. So we are really happy with it, although I know every baby is different. I do SOMETIMES have issues with the nipple collapsing - baby continues to drink fine though and will usually release it so that it comes right before putting it back in. If he does this too often, then I usually just unscrew it, open it up and then lightly screw it back on.

Every baby is very different. If you ask a lactation consultant they will likely recommend one of the following: Dr browns narrow (not wide) , Evenflo balance wide (not narrow) , pigeon, or the new nuk perfect match. All using the absolute slowest nipple they make. Good luck! ❤️

First kid used Avent since birth, second kid was breastfed but took the Medela bottle (with breast milk) when needed, then switched to nuk bottles at around 18m when we stopped breastfeeding but honestly at this point he would take just about any kind of bottle.
