Mockingbird Single-to-Double

The Mockingbird Single-to-Double is a versatile stroller that can be converted from a single to a double configuration, accommodating two children. It features a one-hand fold mechanism, compatibility with various car seats, and a large storage basket.

Pros (+)

  • Affordable compared to premium brands
  • Versatile for single or double use
  • Easy to use with various car seats

Cons (−)

  • Bulky and takes up a lot of trunk space
  • Durability concerns reported by some parents
  • Can feel heavy and cumbersome to maneuver

Why parents like it

The Mockingbird is often praised for its budget-friendly price compared to premium brands like UPPAbaby. Parents enjoy the flexibility of using it as a single or double stroller, making it ideal for families planning to expand.

Common complaints

A significant number of parents report that the stroller is bulky and takes up a lot of trunk space. Some also mention concerns about durability, with a few citing issues like frame breakage.

Best for

Parents looking for a cost-effective stroller that adapts as their family grows. However, the bulkiness may be a drawback for those with limited trunk space.

Bottom line

The Mockingbird offers great value for families needing a single-to-double stroller, but be prepared for some bulk and potential durability concerns.

I will never ever ever forgive or trust this company for refusing to recall their strollers until forced to by the US safety commission. They told parents that their strollers breaking in half with their babies in them were user error. They refused to replace strollers or refund and instead sent out a reinforcement kit after the strollers were deemed faulty by the safety commission. I wouldn’t buy a postcard from this company let alone anything for my baby.

Well I have a mockingbird. It’s nice, but it fills up my whole Honda Fit trunk so if it’s a space thing that’s definitely not the answer. But I don’t know many space efficient doubles. I use a Baby Jogger City tour 2 as my car stroller and that does the job, but the basket is small which is the norm for the “travel strollers”

Thread: "Confused by strollers, what do you recommend?"

There’s definitely an overwhelming amount of options… You can definitely do a combo one that’s the car seat and stroller like the Doona. I think this is best for people who live in big cities or travel a lot. I personally don’t think they’re worth it.. you gotta buy a new car seat and stroller when they get bigger. You could get a bigger, travel system which is a good deal. Something like an UPPABaby vista or a mockingbird for a more budget friendly option with a car seat adapter is very nice. These also usually have options for a bassinet or an infant insert so you don’t always have to use the car seat! They’re very nice strollers with lots of storage, high weight limits, lots of accessories and can really last you a long time. The downside is they are pricey and often very heavy/take up a lot of trunk space! Another option is a travel stroller. Many people use these for every day!! There’s many options these days.. some top ones are the Zoe line, Buggaboo Butterfly, UPPAbaby Minu.. there’s many more. These sometimes can be used with a car seat, are often under 20 pounds, fold compactly, are great for toddlers, great for travel, more budget friendly! Downsides are often not best for infants unless it’s one with a car seat adapter, have less storage and not as many bells and whistles. So.. I chose 2. I went with the Mockingbird which is so nice and we love it. It’s great for babies with all the attachments. Worked with our Chico Key fit car seat and is a nice push! Adjustable handle bar was nice since my husband is a lot taller than me. But it’s really heavy for my small frame and took up my whole SUV trunk. So I also got the Zoe Tour. It’s also amazing!! It’s 13 pounds, folds flat, takes up a fraction of my trunk, great for travel and my toddler loves the snack tray and being able to sit fully upright. I keep that one in the trunk and the Mockingbird in the garage for walks. Lastly, check out The Stroller Mom on Instagram or YouTube! She does full videos comparing strollers and doing in-depth reviews of the most popular brands! That’s how I picked my two!! Good luck!

I have heard not so great reviews about the baby zen yoyo, so crossed that off my list. Nina travl is still too big in my book. I went with the Ergobaby metro+ and have absolutely zero complaints. Small enough for overhead, rides great, comfortable for us to push, baby sits practically upright unlike a lot of travel strollers, and it even lays nearly flat for naps and for small babies the footrest is adjustable and can turn it into a bassinet. Would 100% purchase again, I wish I had it from the start and not the giant mockingbird stroller.

I feel like “the stroller is too big to wheel around the house” is a strange complaint. It’s a heavy duty bulky stroller, of course it’s going to be hard to wheel around a normal, non-mansion sized house?

We love our Mockingbird too! What sold us, besides not being able to justify the cost of the Vista, is that the smaller baby can be in either position, while the vista requires you to put the smaller kid in the further spot.

I debated several expensive strollers before my baby arrived, but just could not get comfortable with paying $800-$1200 for a stroller. We are based in the suburbs and drive most places, so I really just needed something decent for family walks. I went with the Mockingbird, and honestly love it SO much. I think it handles great, it's comfortable to push, suspension is good, great under seat storage, my now toddler seems super comfortable in it. The only thing that I wish was better was the sunshade (I like how some of the strollers have a slightly longer shade for more sun protection). But I bought a shade extender on Amazon for $10 and now I could have it like full blackout on the stroller if I wanted to. 10/10 recommend the Mockingbird. And they have adapters for your carseat!

We got a Mockingbird and it’s awesome! $400 and looks and drives similar to the Uppababy versions I also tested out. Still pricey, but I feel glad to have saved at least a couple hundred bucks. A note on travel systems: if you don’t anticipate being out and about a lot with a really tiny baby, I wouldn’t fret too much about getting a matching car seat and stroller. I know with my stroller, she preferred being in the actual seat basically ASAP over the bucket for stroller rides. With Uppababy in particular the infant seat is $$$ for something that is done with after a year-ish.

Thread: "Mockingbird stroller owners - give me the good & bad please!"

I got it when it was a new brand and my friend bought one a year later, they fixed a few things like the canopy is too short and doesn't lower enough (on mine) on hers it has a whole extra panel and pulls down much farther. The good: I like how it looks and the bassinet option, it folds down quickly and has a huge undercarriage. I like the accessories I got like the cupholder and hanging storage thing. It feels like a smooth ride except for when you hit uneven pavement. The bad: hit a bump in the sidewalk and it feels like it'll pitch right over forwards. The space between the handle and the base is too short for even a pretty short person like me to walk without stubbing my feet on it often, wouldn't recommend it for tall parents. The wheel base is very wide so you're taking up the whole sidewalk. Folded down it is still huge and hard to fit in a pretty good-sized sedan trunk. The brake is easy to jam up and you have to futz with it sometimes. Overall, I like it okay but if I had tried other strollers, I doubt I would have bought it over a Graco system or something. I consider it a marketing win on their part. Looks great though.

Thread: "Stroller recommendations for city-dwellers?"

I’m an NYC dad and have talked to a lot of other parents about this. Biggest factor to consider is if you’re planning to have a second kid, at least while the first needs to be in a stroller. If so, invest in a single-to-double. The uppababy vista, or Nuna Demi at the high end, or the baby jogger select, maxi cosi Lila, or mockingbird in the mid range. There’s other similar ones too. These are all in-line strollers where one kid is basically on top of the other. Side by side strollers are impossible to manage on busy city sidewalks or public transportation. The downside is that all of these strollers are pretty large still and heavy. Can be tough to store in an apartment and even get down the aisle of a city supermarket. If you think you’re one and done or gonna have a larger gap, just get a really high quality travel stroller, with the option for a ride on board for the older kid when the time comes. If I could do it all over again, I would have spent the money on a Babyzen Yoyo. All my parent friends with them rave about it. Built solid, lightweight, folds up tiny for travel, you can get car seat adapters or a newborn kit for the infant, and a ride on board for the future. I’ve spent too much money in my life on strollers now to invest in one but I really wish I did.

I have the Chicco Corso LE and really like it!! The fact that I can fold it with one hand is a great feature that not all strollers have. I think I was also looking at the Mockingbird but went with the Chicco because I found one on Facebook marketplace for a steal. Overall it’s a great stroller, very durable, baby seems super comfortable, travels great, works wonderfully with the Keyfit car seat. I don’t have anything to compare it to but as far as a budget stroller I’m super impressed, it really feels like a luxury item. I will say- neither stroller will work well for hiking trails. You really need a big wheel stroller like the Thule 3 wheel stroller. We don’t even take ours on gravel because it’s too bumpy, we use the baby carrier instead. For bumpy sidewalks though it’s awesome.

We have a mockingbird and have had a great experience (baby is 15 months, it's the only stroller we've owned). It sounds a lot like your first stroller though? It's a manageable weight (25 lbs I think?) but it takes up almost my whole trunk in my Nissan rogue. I've enjoyed the versatility, but I'm not sure how much you'd benefit from it vs your current arrangement.

I hate to be the person who recommends the more expensive option (you have to weigh all of the trade offs when purchasing so many baby items!) but we LOVE our mockingbird and regularly comment on how happy we are that we bought it. We live in Michigan and it does really well in the snow, in general. It’s not a jogging stroller so it won’t go over deep snow, but a couple of inches or packed/semi-plowed snow is no problem. We use it all winter to and from daycare. You can purchase the snow bunting and rain cover for it which keeps baby super toasty. Our 3.5 year old still enjoys sitting in it and he’s on the taller side. We also used it with the Chicco keyfit 30 adapter, which worked great. But honestly mostly used it with the regular infant seat. We have never hiked with it - I don’t think it would do well on trails at all. Happy to answer any specific questions you have about it!

I have the baby jogger city select - it’s similar in setup to the uppababy vista, but both seats are the same size. That means both have a 50lb weight limit and overall it’ll last you longer. We love it! The configurations were a bit limited when using it with an infant seat, the toddler seat couldn’t really recline but I never found that problematic because my oldest was never a stroller napper. And it wasn’t a concern after those first few months. I love the versatility - I can leave the second seat in the trunk if I only have one with me or I can turn the rear seat to face me if that kid won’t stop bugging their sibling. It maneuvers easily and has worked great for our family. They’re currently 2 and nearly 4 and we still use it as our main stroller. I also disliked the setup of the Nuna, because no one was going to be happy sitting in the basket. It’s just not convenient. And also found the mockingbird to be cheaply made. I’ve done so much stroller research over the years and it seems like the perfect double doesn’t really exist, you have to compromise somewhere.

If you can spare another $100 I would strongly consider getting the Chico corso travel system instead. I’ve been using my corso every day for the last 20 months and it’s holding up great. Reason being is that the corso seat can face both ways and lay flat. The Bravo is a great stroller but it only forward faces so your only option is to use the car seat until your baby is ready to forward face. Evenflo, Graco and Maxi Cosi have similar travel systems under $500 that can also lay flat and face both ways too. Mockingbird single stroller is another option around $400 that can be paired with a Chicco car seat if that’s what you’re prioritizing. ETA: just checked and the corso system is actually only $549 and 20% off on Chicco website btw

I commented this recently on another post, so I'll paste it here: I love the Mockingbird. It felt like everyone was recommending the Uppababy but when I went to try it out in store (Nordstrom) I *hated* it. I hated the placement of the center button, I hated the bar going across the storage area, I hated the configuration of the bassinet with a second seat, I remember hating how it folded, though it's been so long that I can't remember why. The Mockingbird just felt smoother to my husband and I, and I'm obsessed with the ease of their one handed fold/unfold. The only downside we've noticed so far is that the Mockingbird doesn't have a telescoping handle so my husband, who is 6'4", sometimes hits the bottom bar because of how long his stride is. Other than that it's been the perfect stroller for us and I *love* the bassinet attachment. It's also a little big and heavy, so maybe not the best for travel, but I love it for everything else.

Mockingbird. Absolutely love it. Got it from infancy and my baby has been growing into it perfectly. Not to outrageous in price but sturdy in quality while also being lightweight, manageable and compatible. Just depends what you’re wanting out of a stroller. I wanted one that I could use right after birth but also use with a toddler. I wanted something not overwhelming in size, easy to collapse, not a car seat attachment, and not overly expensive. Those were the things I was looking for in a stroller.

I absolutely LOVE my Mockingbird Single-To-Double stroller! Here’s a breakdown of my thoughts after 9 months of almost daily use… Pros: Works for up to 3 children.- Can use most combinations of bassinet, car seat adapter, or stroller seat, and has a riding board.- Can use the basket for grocery trips up to 25lbs.- Lots of accessories to accommodate caregivers, kids, and various types of weather.- Can fit various seating combinations in MOST cars.- Easy to fold and put in or get out of the car one handed.- Half the price of the UppaBaby Vista (AKA it’s a dupe). Cons: Takes up the whole trunk.- Not easy to switch seat combinations single handed despite what they advertise.- Not for all terrain.- Infant insert for the stroller seat isn’t the best for small babies or newborns IMO.- Doesn’t fit through narrow areas. Disclaimers: I’ve only used it for a single passenger and have only needed to wipe things down-never washing any pieces thus far. The parent organizer is a total flop IMO but I’ve heard there’s a hack for fitting two cup holders on. I do like the Itzy Ritzy stroller caddy with the stroller!

Target is the only store I know of, but I'm pretty sure Mockingbird has a store locator on their site. For us, the Mockingbird felt a lot flimsier than the UB and that's why we decided it was worth the upgrade. For UB, the infant snugseat is pretty nice as an alternative to the bassinet. If your toddler is small enough to fit in the rumble seat then I think you can put the toddler on the bottom and the infant snugseat on top. But I think the reason the bassinet is normally on the bottom is because it's a lot harder to push if the heavier child is on the bottom. Also, the new Bugaboo Kangaroo lets you have the bassinet on top. If this had been out when we bought our stroller we might have gone with this one. It's even pricier than the UB though.

We bought a Mockingbird to use as a double stroller; took one short walk before throwing the piece of junk in the car and returning it to Target. The thing creaks like an 18th century British ship underway and turned about as well too. It couldn't crest a half inch bump in the sidewalk, and the handlebar is on a hinge and it feels like you are going to snap it off if you try to pop it up over a curb. On the final turn of it's maiden voyage it nearly tipped over. Shortly after we returned it, Mockingbird was issued a recall because the frames were cracking when in the double configuration. So they send out a bracket you had the clamp onto the frame to "fix" it. We got the Cybex Gazelle instead and loved it. It feels very sturdy and well built. It also handles very well on different terrain. It's a bit like a slightly more compact version of the Vista, but without the brand name premium. Although it does have a couple of shortcomings. The canopies do not extend our quite as far as you would like. They are also a bit low so I would not recommend for a tall child. Also, it has a cupholder but no caddy, and unfortunately, the way it is designed you can't real hang a universal caddy without it slide down into the basket underneath. I know this post is old and probably no one will see it, but I can't help myself. I just hated the Mockingbird SO much. There is a reason you can't return it if you buy straight from their website. It felt like a scam designed to trick vulnerable, stress-adled parents. It is NOT like the Vista but cheaper (that would be the Cybex). It's the Wish version of the Vista, and it almost dashed my childrens' soft adorable heads on the concrete while trying to take a simple turn down the block

I bought a Uppababy Cruz v2 off FB for $200 and I think it’s a great stroller but I don’t have the means for brand new (v3 is $900ish I believe). My friend gave us a super nice Graco car seat which unfortunately doesn’t go with the high end brands. I see mockingbird stroller the most around me. One advice I was given though is choose the stroller based on how much you love it bc you’ll use that 4-5 years whereas the car seat is only 8 months-1 year

Our double mockingbird fits in our Prius, but you do have to remove the seats first. Which I think most people have to regardless of car size bc it doesn’t fold compact with seats attached. Takes 2 seconds.

Another vote for Mockingbird! We got the car seat adapter and infant insert as well. Stroller gets used almost daily.
