Maxi-Cosi Pria Max

The Maxi-Cosi Pria Max is an all-in-one convertible car seat designed for children from birth to 65 pounds. It features a smart tether system for easier installation and a compact design suitable for smaller vehicles.

Pros (+)

  • Smart tether makes installation easier and safer
  • Compact design fits well in smaller vehicles
  • Highly rated for ease of use and comfort

Cons (−)

  • Pricey compared to other convertible car seats
  • Not the best choice for budget-conscious families
  • Limited availability in some regions

Why parents like it

Parents appreciate the smart tether that keeps the strap out of the way, making it easier to transfer their child in and out of the car. The compact design is frequently mentioned as a major plus for fitting in smaller vehicles.

Common complaints

While most parents are satisfied, some express concerns about the price, which can exceed $800. A few also mention that while the seat is great, it may not be the best option for those on a tighter budget.

Best for

Parents looking for a compact car seat that simplifies getting kids in and out of the car. Be prepared for a higher price tag compared to other options.

Bottom line

The Maxi-Cosi Pria Max is a solid investment for parents seeking a compact and user-friendly car seat, though the price may be a hurdle for some.

The seat you've linked is a great low-budget option. All carseats in Australia are safe in a crash - what you want to check for is so.ething that is also best practice. What this means for a 0-4 seat is that it should be Expended Rear-Facing (ERF) which is until approximately 30 months. While some of the more expensive seats have added impact protection, you will find the main difference is really in comfort and convenience rather than safety - Features like nicer fabrics, easy adjust headrests, buckle holders, etc. The other thing to consider is how much room there is in your car. The seat you have linked is quite large in rear-facing mode. For a more compact option you can look at the Britax Graphene/Brava, the Infasecure Attain/Quattro, or the Maxi Cosi Pria.

I love our Graco 4Ever 4 in 1. Got it when my son outgrew his infant seat at 11 months old, and he’s now about to turn 6 years old. It’s been nothing short of awesome. Easy to transfer and install when necessary, very well padded, easy to adjust, went from rear-facing to forward with no issues, cover is so easy to remove and clean, and I love knowing that I’m covered until he no longer requires any kind of extra seating at all. For comparison, we were gifted a Maxi Cosi Pria for my daughter (recently turned 2). It’s perfectly fine, but not nearly as easy to clean or adjust for a growing kid, and I don’t think it converts to a booster (need to double check that). Graco all the way!

I have the Maxi-Cosi Pria which is the most compact ERF seat on the market, it is a bit pricey (over $800) but it is worth every cent, I just found out I'm expecting our second baby and I'll be getting a second pria once he/she outgrows the capsule, if you have a smaller car I highly recommend looking at one.

i adore my uppababy mesa car seat and really wished i would have bought the whole system, being able to just remove baby from car while still napping has been great, i also bought the maxi cosi convertible car seat but we haven't used it yet, i'm sad we only have about 6-7 more months with her uppababy car seat

I have a 2006 Swift and we fit the Maxi Cosi Pria GCell in it. It's a bit squishy for someone to sit in the front passenger seat so my husband sits in the back (probably would anyway to be next to our newborn) Baby bunting were really helpful and let us put it in our car before buying so we could see what sort of space it takes up.

Pria. Not having the tether in the way is so much better than the old style seats. (I have one of both and much prefer the Pria.)

Also in terms of being compact I am able to fit 2 Pria’s in the side and middle seat in a Corolla, leaving the other side seat free for a passenger, so definitely compact

Thread: "Should I go for baby capsule or straight to car seat?"

We went straight to car seat after plenty of indecision on this same topic. We went and looked at a range of capsules and seats in store, and came to the conclusion that carrying a capsule with baby would be quite difficult for my wife due to the weight, even for the lightest capsule. Also the benefit of a capsule was to be able to hopefully let little one keep sleeping when getting in and out of the car, but realistically you still need to unclick the capsule from the base which will jolt the bub, and then you will want to transfer them from capsule to bassinet when you are in the house... We ended up getting a maxi cosi pria car seat which has the seatbelt guide and have no trouble transferring our little guy in and out without drastically disrupting his sleep. Highly recommend this car seat.

Thread: "Car seat questions, including the new maxi Cosi 360"

Ugh I had a whole thing written out but my toddler touched my phone and it disappeared. Here’s the small version. 360 is expensive and personally not worth it unless you have mobility issues. I have a grapheme and Pria. I would replace the grapheme with the Pria if I had lots of disposable income ha. Teether thing is a game changer for me and install super easy. The seat also seems cooler which is important in Qld. The grapheme was/is great for the 2 years we had it. No issues at all I just prefer the Pria.

Agree we have both and the Pria tether is amazing. My husband has the graphene in his 2011 Mazda 3 hatch back and there is plenty of room for me to sit in the front with the seat rear facing. I have a Corolla and there is heaps of space with the pria too.

Thread: "Which convertible carseat should I get?"

Currently have the maxi cosi pria and after about a year and a half, we're replacing with nuna rava. The pria is annoying to install. You really have to wrench it with some big muscles to get it tight enough. The rava is much easier to install and incredible quality. I wish we had just gotten that one from the start. We had the nuna pipa infant seat and loved it. So easy to install and great quality. Plus if you have their travel bag, they'll replace the seat if it gets damaged while traveling.

Maxi Cosi Pria. Also has a tether guide on one side - no more stooping and necking the baby on the tether strap.

Thread: "Should I go for baby capsule or straight to car seat?"

I was in a similar situation. I bought a pram and capsule off a friend. Baby is now nearly 6 months. I did a lot of babywearing. baby was born in winter. (July 24) I hardly used the clip out capsule feature in winter. Keep in mind that post partum, the mother reaaally needs to not lift anything heavy. I had ab separation issues because I was a bit naughty and wanting to lift things. Don't push your limits. You are much more fragile than you think. Don't even get up from bed without doing the roll to your side move until your physio gives you the all clear. That was like at 3 months for me. So for the first few months I physically didn't want to strain myself picking the thing out of the car at an awkward angle, lifting it and baby above a pram and clicking it in. for something that only is usable for 6 months that is not a good deal... But! The weather then turned hot as summer came on. And what is super handy about a removable capsule in summer is when you park your car outside at the destination, you can take the capsule inside into your destination which is generally air conditioned so it doesn't stay in the baking hot car. That way you on the return trip you can buckle your baby into a perfectly cool capsule and click that into the car. I totally didn't care about the capsule until the heat came. Also so many comments here saying "learn how to install it yourself". Good if you can do it but get it checked by a professional for the love of God. 70% of car seats are installed incorrectly. We installed our capsule ourselves before the birth but my husband was worried because something about the fit in the car seemed just slightly off. baby was born early. in the first few days while i was in hospital my sleep deprived husband got it checked with the racv and yes, they needed to refit it. Don't take chances on it.

Thread: "Car seats in Australia for new born"

All car seats have the same minimum safety requirements, if I were going to buy a new car seat for my bub today I’d be buying [this one](https://www.babybunting.com.au/product/maxi-cosi-pria-convertible-car-seat-midnight-126699) because it’s designed to keep the tether out of the way of getting bub in/out of the car. Most car seats have a tether that can be loosened to get bub in/out but it’s a safety risk if you haven’t tightened it up properly - definitely safer if you never have to mess with it! That being said, most people go for a britax graphene. We have an infasecure and it does the job and I have no complaints about it!

Thread: "Can't decide on a car seat - Britax B-Compaq or Maxi Cosi Pria?"

I have the Graphene EA (not sure if there's another Graphene model?) and it takes like a second to undo the tether and a second to do it back up, so I wouldn't base the purchase on that 😊. Not sure what the b-compaq tether is like but if it's the same, I'd consider/compare the other differences such as shape, size etc for your specific car  One thing that annoys me with the EA is that the buckles clip to the side instead of magnets. I feel like the little plastic clips will break before I'm finished using the seat. If you get it in the wrong angle it can be tricky to do up/undo it feels like it'll snap. I've not heard of it happening but that's just how it feels when I use it, if that makes sense 🤷‍♀️

I have an infa Quattro (same shell as the attain, different fabric) and I’m so glad I got it. It’s really easy to use day to day, easy to install, extended rear facing BUT not a massive seat, so the front seat still has plenty of legroom. One of the pros on it over the graphene is that the top tether can swap sides (as in the leaver where you undo it to get baby in and out), where as the graphene you’d have to get a qualified person to swap it. So if you had to move it to a different side of the car, you’d need to do that. The pria would probably be easier with no top tether to open/close but that’s really never bothered me personally!

I love our safe and sound quick fix. Much cheaper than britax and made by britax too, same shell. I prefer it to our much more expensive britax Recently bought maxi cosi pria for our three across babies and they've been absolutely outstanding. I'm not sure how they'd go in a smaller car. We got them for smaller width so we could easily put in 3 across. Our quickfix is in the small car and then 3 prias and 1 britax graphene + which I'm underwhelmed by for the price, in our big car.

Lots of great info on the Facebook group! We bought the infasecure Quattro onyx during boxing day sales but looks like it's back to full price now. Britax graphene/brava, maxi Cosi pria and infasecure attain/Quattro are the best options, at current prices I'd go the graphene. If that's out of budget, the Brava (or quickfix) is same shell mid range option. These are all compact extended rear facing 0-4 and will work in any small car. We have an i30. Highly recommend the child restraints FB group for more info.

Thread: "When did you switch out of a convertible car seat?"

Currently researching new seats now. My car was in a minor collision (I hit a bumper on a parked Amazon van) but am using it as a reason to get new car seats. My 4.5 year old is in a maxi cosi pria and while we have loved it and used it since my almost 7yo was a baby it’s time to go. It’s been washed 194719 times and is just…gross. My 7yo is in a graco 4ever that’s also gross and been in use for the last 6.5ish years. I am looking for a high backed booster with the 5 point harness, 2 cup holders, ability to go up to 120lbs if needed. Ideally I will buy 2 of the same seats and replace both kids car seats.
