Thread: "I’m Overwhelmed With Infant Car seats. FTM"
I got a travel system for my first baby and I loved it so much we just got another one for our next baby. I think it was $150 at Walmart? It’s an infant car seat ( super easy install) and instead of taking him out of the car seat i pick up the cat seat and plop it into the stroller. The umbrella cover thing actually fully closes to where I can protect him from those freaks who like to stick their hands all over a newborn baby. Even when I stop using the car seat I love the stroller. I got the Graco one.
Thread: "I’m Overwhelmed With Infant Car seats. FTM"
Being able to lift baby and car seat out of car can preserve baby’s napping state. Very important. Mine grew out of the Graco click and connect and inevitably wakes when I pull her out of her fixed seat.
Thread: "Infant car seats - what did you like?"
I got recommended for the Graco SnugRide by my friend since at the time I was a new parent and I just love this thing. It makes so much easier to put my kiddo in there and as it says on the product description its a snug fit for my kid. My favorite feature from this thing is the easy to take out seat pads to clean which makes it nice.
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
There’s a reason that Chicco Keyfit & Graco snugride are routinely rated as two of the best car seats. It’s not just about nice materials, but about ease of install, how it fits a small baby and how well they fit into your vehicle. Also there was just a massive recall of Maxi Cosi car seats if you weren’t aware. Here’s a list of recommended infant seats (with pros and cons for each): https://vicarseattechs.com/our-favourite-seats/infant-seats/ If you want a “fancy” seat, the one I’ve seen recommended the most is Clek Liing.
Thread: "Hoping to hear some opinions on the graco snugline and its accompanying stroller base. I’m torn on which we should go with for our baby."
No opinion on the car seat/stroller, however BIG WARNING - DO NOT BUY ON AMAZON. Amazon has zero interest in correcting a major issue with the selling of knockoffs. Some crash tests are showing that counterfeit car seats are smashing into thousands of pieces upon impact, whereas the real car seat maintains its life-saving qualities. The worst part? They are virtually indistinguishable from the packaging to the logos. Just do a quick Google search and you’ll immediately want to buy directly from the manufacturer. Amazon is trash for this because they KNOW and do nothing to weed out the third party sellers doing this. I’ll climb down from my soapbox now.
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
I have a Graco Snugride. It’s light and perfect and does its job. Clicks into my stroller. It’s a car seat - primary purpose is safety. Besides, many babies will be out of their infant seat by age 1 - IMO not worth paying a premium just for a “nicer” seat unless you have lots of money to blow or you want something special like flame retardant-free. Get one that fits your needs. Like can you click into your stroller or find an adaptor for it? *does it fit in your car?* not every seat can be installed into every vehicle. A car seat is useless at best, dangerous at worst, if it can’t be installed into your vehicle.
Thread: "Hoping to hear some opinions on the graco snugline and its accompanying stroller base. I’m torn on which we should go with for our baby."
Ok so I’m a 3rd time mom and I am 100% buying that stroller again! It was soooo easy to use. Lightweight compact and just a breeze I love the Graco snugride line basically anything is good there. I got 2 kids uses out of both of those car seat and stroller.
Thread: "3 Across Car Seats"
The Triride is quite wide and doesn’t play well with 3 across. Normally it’s not super efficient to buy a convertible seat for a kid who already forward faces, but the Graco Slimfit3 LX/Graco True3Fit LX (same seat at different retailers; no other version with Slimfit in the name will work) is going to be the best option for replacing the Triride. It has a forward facing seatbelt lockoff that will allow you to achieve a secure seatbelt install in the center seat. Try that first, it may work with the 2 Snugrides but the bases will need to be seatbelt installed (not latch) with the 2 outer car seats pulled as close to the doors as possible. If you can’t get a secure install that way, try Graco’s Snuglock bases for the infant seats for an easier install (they’re compatible with all current Graco infant car seats). If that doesn’t work, the Chicco Keyfit35 works in this configuration with a slimfit3 LX in the center- I’ve personally done that configuration successfully in the same generation of compass. I know it sucks to spend money on more car seats when that’s needed, but it’s cheaper than a new car 🫠
Thread: "Car seats - you get what you pay for?"
They all meet minimum safety standards, but it’s a myth that they are all *equally* safe. Some seats do better in crash testing than others. Often this correlates with price but not always. We had a snugride with our first and it’s a perfectly fine seat. My main complaints were the difficult harness adjustment and the canopy hit my hand when carrying it.
Thread: "I’m Overwhelmed With Infant Car seats. FTM"
So, I did A LOT of research on car seats, it was stressful. We ended up getting the Graco snugride snug lock 35 elite. There are a plethora of reasons why I decided on this for a carrier seat. We used as our pri are seat until probably 7 months. Then it went in our back up car until about 12 months. I also got the Graco 4ever DLX, for many reasons. It is good infant through booster. I actually ordered a second one when the infant seat in the second car was outgrown. Infsnt seats are nice, they can be taken in and out, covered with a cover, not woken up, and the shade allows them darker naps in the car. But once he was done napping a bunch, we moved to the 4ever, its such a nice seat! We also got the city mini gt2 jogger stroller because the Graco infant carseats fit with it.
Thread: "Overwhelmed - Stroller Recommendation [ON]"
I got a Bumbleride Era and absolutely love it. Using it on my second baby now. I loved the handling, lower price than uppababy, that it accommodates a newborn without attachments, and that the seat can face you or face out. Turns out they have great customer service too. I did something silly and broke the seat frame. They had a new one at my door in 2 days no questions asked. Don't get caught up in needing a travel system. You need a car seat and a stroller. Canadian car seat techs overwhelmingly recommend the Clek Liing (pricy), graco snugride, or Chicco keyfit. You can often purchase an adapter to use any of these car seats in a stroller. I purchased an adapter ($90) and never took it out of the box. Car seats aren't properly leveled in strollers so it's really not recommended to have your baby in the car seat outside of the vehicle. You can get a Bumbleride Era for $1000 and the graco or Chicco car seats for $200-$400 depending on which one and whether you get it on sale. The graco is only $200 on Amazon right now.
Thread: "Difference between expensive infant seats and less expensive infant seats"
I totally get it! I was also talking about the convertible seats, like once they're a little older. Lol For the infant bucket seats I also highly recommend lifting the seats when you're at the store. I actually had made a spreadsheet that included the weight of the actual car seat. Obviously, you want your kid to be safe, but when that car seat starts at 20lbs and you add in a kid, it very heavy and very difficult to carry, especially in the beginning. We had gone with the Graco extend to fit, snugride sunglock 35 for the infant seat. It's one of the lighter ones but with great safety reviews.
Thread: "Car seats - you get what you pay for?"
We are incredibly happy with our Snugride. For a little more than $200 we got the seat, two bases, and a click connect stroller. We don't feel like we're missing anything
Thread: "Do we NEED an infant car seat? "
Depending on the size of your baby, you might use an infant seat for a longtime. My LO, almost 7m, still uses her infant seat. It’s lovely to only need one seat (two bases), that can be used in both cars and can easily lock in and out of a stroller for quickly trips to the store. And while they are so young, they will sleep a lot so it’s nice not to wake them when you are going in and out of places (using the stroller). And you will already have a lot to carry, so a car seat is easier than a baby, for a while. So no, infant seat is not necessary, but I think the ease is worth the expense.
Thread: "Difference between expensive infant seats and less expensive infant seats"
If you're taking just specifically about Graco my research is about a year old, but from what I remember the stuff like "LX" or "DLX" mostly has to do with the finishes (i.e. slightly nicer fabric). SnugFit has an anti-rebound bar and SnugLock has a base that's supposedly easier to install. I basically wound up going to Target and seeing a Graco travel system (Modes Element, so pretty basic) on sale for $120 and got it. I think it's a SnugLock LX or DLX. I installed the base myself at 8 months pregnant without a problem and so far it's served us well. You can Google comparison charts, which were helpful for deciphering it all.
Thread: "Hoping to hear some opinions on the graco snugline and its accompanying stroller base. I’m torn on which we should go with for our baby."
We have the 35 lite car seat and love it! Very easy to install and pretty lightweight which is nice both when you’re recovering and when baby grows. Can’t speak on the stroller but we’re really happy with the seat
Thread: "Car seats - you get what you pay for?"
I love my crack snugride and am gearing up to use it again for our second! Have had no issues whatsoever with the seat cover or any other aspect Of it not holding up. Its been washed a bunch and is still in excellent shape!
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
Exactly this. Mine grew out of his at 6 months.
Thread: "We have the Graco Snugride carseat and our sweet girl is going to outgrow it soon-what is next?"
We had a Snugride. We had purchased a Graco 4Ever befirw he was born and are using that in my vehicle now. For our 2nd vehicle, we just bought the Graco Extend-to-Fit because it has higher RF limits. I am in Ontario and Canada has a nation-wide car seat safety group where CPSTs give advice. They tailor it to your vehicle, child's stats, and driver's stats for best fit.
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
We have the Snugride too, it’s been great.

Babies heads do not need to be immobilized. The main concern is them being chin to chest, blocking their airway. The main way to reduce this is to make sure that the car seat is installed properly and reclined as possible. Sometimes “head supports” end up pushing their heads forward and you might get a better fit without it. Here is a good read: https://csftl.org/head-slump-oh-no-or-no-biggie/
Thread: "Toddler Car Seat Air Travel"
We check our regular Graco and then use an FAA approved toddler harness on the plane when we travel. The harness works great for us with our almost 3 year old and has done a good job keeping him in his seat through some pretty bumpy flights! https://www.amsafe.com/kidsflysafe-com/
Thread: "Uppababy Mesa vs Chicco Keyfit 35 [CA]"
I may be wrong but I believe the back part where the shoulder straps is is taller on the Chicco. They may have the same max height but the difference is the height from bum to top of head. The Chicco has more room there. I have the Chicco. I love how light it is! It goes on sale pretty often on Best Buy. If you have the uppababy stroller, get the bassinet attachment and skip the carseat in it. Use the graco bucket seat. Hope this helps!
Thread: "Did you feel like your baby outgrew their infant seat before hitting the manuals listed height/weight requirement?"
We switched at 7 months, he was 24lbs and 29in. We had the Graco Sungride 35 LX. Good til 32in or 35lb but he outgrew it by the 1 inch over his head rule. I ended up passing down my 6 year old’s Graco Extend-2-Fit and switched him to a booster. As for baby liking the convertible more? Not really. He’s 16 months now and still doesn’t like going in the car lol.
Thread: "Difference between expensive infant seats and less expensive infant seats"
Checked CR for Graco and all the Snugride Snugfit 35 models EXCEPT the basic one (So DLX LX and elite are rated highest (and the same). Looks like the only models to avoid (that they tested) are base Snugride Snugfit 35 and Snugride 35 Lite
Thread: "Seeking Opinions on Infant Car Seat (Graco Snugride Specific Questions)"
We used the Graco snugride 30 until our twins outgrew them, around age 2.5 and they worked out very well. Snap into base and go style, also light enough to carry both with kids in them.. We had the options double stroller (did have to get one extra Carseat harness) and lets you buckle the Carseat right on it, saves so much effort rather than unbuckling and rebuckling the twins from Carseat to stroller everytime. Btw congrats on your twins 🤩🤩
Thread: "Chicco KeyFit 30 vs. Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35"
I bought the Graco snugride seat because it was lightest and cheaper car seat. My first kid was a preemie and was comfortable in it but my second was a big baby and I didn’t use it very long. But I splurged on the convertible car seats because they sit in them longer. I’m a smaller girl so I struggle carrying babies in carseats. My second only used the car seat until about 3 months and first was about 5 months because he was small.
Thread: "Practical: Doona, Graco Snugride, or Chicco Keyfit"
I feel like the Doona is really good for people who live somewhere where they use mass transit a lot and want to be able to pop the car seat and stroller into taxis or other cars easily. For me, we are a two car family, so what I want is a car seat that pops into a base that I leave in each car all the time so that I can easily bring baby out of the car while still in her carrier, pop into a stroller frame, or bring into the house. (PSA don’t just leave the baby there esp unsupervised because the car seat doesn’t sit the same way on the floor that it does when sitting in a properly installed base). So I loved having a light and portable car seat that popped into a base that I could handle on my own without my spouse. Chicco, Britax, and Graco all have good and safe options for infant car seats that snap into bases. In particular, Graco always seems to end up highly rated for safety and reasonably priced. Wirecutter’s top two recs right now are the Graco SnugRide SnugFit 35 DLX and the Chicco Keyfit Max Cleartex. If I were you and I had my own car I would go for the Snugfit. Once the baby is too big for a car seat that can be easily removed from the car or if you don’t care about that as a feature, you can look at any number of car seats from those same brands and they’re going to be somewhat reasonably priced and safe. I bought Wirecutter’s recs for my mother-in-law’s car. And also you can try to buy ahead and on sale for the next age range. I actually bought my Nuna Ravas on sale at the summer Nordstrom sale which is going on now. There’s also the Target car seat trade in event that happens every spring which will net you 20% off a car seat or wagon, and that 20% off stacks with the 5% off from using your Target credit card (which is a feeless credit card). Target makes it sound like you need to trade in an old car seat to get that coupon but you absolutely do not, it’s available if you just walk into the store and people always circulate the code on reddit. Also, Black Friday.
Thread: "Safest convertible car seat for baby?"
How is the leg room of the seat in front of your Graco Extend2fit? I also have a CX-5 and currently we have the Graco Snugride infant carrier behind the passenger seat and we can’t have that seat back far enough for preference.
Thread: "Small car carseat [on]"
Another vote for that fb group! I drive a small car (Honda Civic) and was suggested either a Chicco Keyfit 30 or Graco snugride. We went with the Graco and loved it! My son has since outgrown it, but I'm pregnant again and find myself excited to use the bucket seat again, lol!
Thread: "Infant carseat recommendations [ON]"
I chose the Graco snugride and we loved it, but she did outgrow it a little after year old (but she's 90th + percentil overall). It was incredibly handy when she was really little, just popped the car seat into the stroller base and off we went. We did purchase an extra base for my husband's car, but they are readily available on Facebook marketplace for not too much money. Now we've upgraded her to the graco extend2fit and that one is awesome. Our secondary car seat is the Cosco Sereneca which we got it cantire for a really good price. I will say I totally appreciate that there are lots of car seats out there at varying price points. For her first car seat, given the weight and height ranges, I would not be spending over $1,000. I was glad that we stuck with something that was relatively affordable. Her current car seat she'll have until we move her to a booster seat, and so I was okay spending more on that.
Thread: "Difference between expensive infant seats and less expensive infant seats"
Glad that was helpful! FYI all the Graco bases are compatible, so if you need more than one don’t feel like you have to get the exact one your seat comes with. They did used to have a different system called “Classic Connect” but I believe it’s been long enough that all those seats/bases would be expired now. Modern system is “Click Connect.” Mentioning this just in case it applies to your stroller - I’ve seen some older jogging strollers in great condition.
Thread: "Graco Snugride Snuglock 35 Infant Insert"
from what I have researched from pediatrician / nurse advice is that ANY insert that goes BETWEEN the baby / child and the car seat and it not made by the manufacturer of the car seat comprises the effectiveness and safety of the car seat in dangerous situations. Putting the towel or blanket around the head as some suggest online is OK because it is not BETWEEN the child and the seat if that makes sense
Thread: "Hoping to hear some opinions on the graco snugline and its accompanying stroller base. I’m torn on which we should go with for our baby."
Honestly I love Graco anything!!!! I just wish you could use any infant car seat with their double stroller or any other stroller , just because I was given two Graco strollers but don’t have an infant car seat that is Graco !
Thread: "Chicco KeyFit 30 vs. Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35"
Ive only used the snugride, and the snug lock feature makes it ridiculously easy to install. Check what the height limit is for the chicco, because most babies outgrow their bucket seats by height way before the weight limit (both my kids didn’t/won’t hit the 35lb limit until they’re 3). Snugride 35’s height limit is 32”, which gets the average baby close to 18 months. You will probably stop removing it from the car long before this because it gets really cumbersome as baby gains weight, but it’s nice to have that option on freezing cold days or when they fall asleep.
Thread: "Chicco KeyFit 30 vs. Graco SnugRide SnugLock 35"
We have the Snugride seat, and will be using it again for our second baby. I have zero complaints about it. It was easy to install, easy to adjust the harness, and not too heavy to carry. I also like that Graco allows the use of seat protectors - not all manufacturers do. Our vehicles have leather seats and my SO was concerned about damage, so we were happy to learn that Graco has approved the use of vehicle seat protectors.
Thread: "What car seat are you getting?"
We currently have three (three kids in car seats) all Greco. We have the snug rider, the extent to fit (because we do extended refacing, my oldest is 4.5 and we just flipped her because she maxed out the height), and the 4ever (so we can move the oldest through the stages). I have no complaints about any of them.
Thread: "I’m Overwhelmed With Infant Car seats. FTM"
We also did a ton of research. By that I mean my husband researched, charted, and graphed numbers for safety ratings and pricing. These were the ones we decided to go with. He's a nerd. But I'm thankful for it. We have loved them both.
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
We have this too! I love it. We had the Graco Snugride seat but it didn’t clip into our Uppababy vista. Not an issue with our first who was born during lockdown, but for our current baby we definitely needed a stroller compatible car seat. It feels super luxurious compared to the Graco but it also feels safer. Her head is way better supported in the Peg Perego seat and she seems much more comfortable. We did have to buy the adapters but it was still cheaper than buying the Uppababy car seat.
Thread: "Practical: Doona, Graco Snugride, or Chicco Keyfit"
We loved our snugride, it’s a great seat. We didn’t get a stroller until kiddo was a bit older, but we went with a baby jogger. It’s compatible with graco seats without any extra adapters.
Thread: "Infant car seat recommendation that doesn’t feel cheap?"
We use a Graco snugride and it’s been very sturdy. No complaints at all. About to move our 9 month old out of it though, her plus the seat is getting too heavy for this mama. 😂
Thread: "Hoping to hear some opinions on the graco snugline and its accompanying stroller base. I’m torn on which we should go with for our baby."
You can call or text Graco's customer service. They're SUPER helpful and friendly! They'll know how to check and can walk you through it.
Thread: "Car seat recommendations [ON]"
Definitely look into joining the car seat safety group on Facebook, there’s a specific Canadian group where you can post your vehicle type and they’ll give you recommendations. The infant seat can last anywhere from 6-12 months depending on how big your baby is, we moved our son to a convertible seat around 10-11 months. It was worth it for the convenience of just taking the seat out and bringing it with us places and attaching it to the stroller. You’ll likely use the stroller much longer than the car seat so I’d start by setting a max budget and looking for options within that, and seeing what car seats will be compatible. I know the Graco snug ride 35 is a highly recommended seat and there are quite a few strollers that are compatible or have adapters that you can buy

Thanks! I did and the cpst said I need a compact seat and menioned the Liing, Graco Snugrides, and the Chicco keyfits
Thread: "Small car carseat [on]"
+1 to checking the seats for kids Facebook group. I found when we searched for our small vw that the Graco snug rides were also recommended as a good fit so we went with that (had a second hand graco stroller already too).
Thread: "Infant carseat recommendations [ON]"
As far as I know all infant bucket seats have a belt path for install without the base. I have a Graco Snugride and have found in most vehicles it’s actually faster for me to move the base than install it without. Graco is also compact, lighter, costs less and doesn’t have the load leg that people mention may be a problem in your truck. If you want your car seat to clip onto your stroller nuna ring adaptors often are compatible with Graco as well.
Thread: "3 across car seats"
I’ve been doing 3 across for 11 weeks now. Going today to pick up my minivan. Didn’t want to do it but 3 across is just not sustainable. When I have to get my toddler out I have to take one baby seat out, set it on the ground, reach in to the toddler to unbuckle. That’s precious seconds I don’t have eyes on the baby on the ground. It’s just not safe when you’re anywhere but home. If you feel you have to do it (I get it, funds in this economy) my toddler has the slimfit LX and the twins are in the Graco snugride 35 DLX. It “fits” technically. In my Honda HR-V Trust me, if you can swing it, upgrade your vehicle! So you don’t end up juggling a new car purchase/car sale after they come!
Thread: "Car seats - you get what you pay for?"
I loved the Snugride for my daughter and I just bought a new one for my son. There is more padding on the Chicco, but if that's your concern there's a slightly more expensive version of the Snugride that has extra padding and looks a little fancier.
Thread: "We have the Graco Snugride carseat and our sweet girl is going to outgrow it soon-what is next?"
We have a Graco Triride and a Graco extend 3in1. I honestly prefer the TriRide and it’s cheaper.
