Graco SlimFit3 LX

The Graco SlimFit3 LX is a 3-in-1 convertible car seat that accommodates children from 5 to 100 pounds, transitioning from rear-facing to forward-facing and then to a booster seat. It features a narrow design, making it suitable for fitting three car seats across in most vehicles.

Pros (+)

  • Fits three across in most vehicles
  • Easy installation with SnugLock technology
  • Convertible design grows with your child

Cons (−)

  • May be too slim for larger toddlers
  • Some parents felt rushed into purchase
  • Limited padding for long-term comfort

Why parents like it

Many parents praise the SlimFit3 LX for its ability to fit three seats across in compact cars, making it ideal for families with multiple children. The installation process is often described as straightforward, thanks to the SnugLock technology.

Common complaints

Some parents find the seat too slim for larger toddlers, which can affect comfort as they grow. A few also mention that they felt rushed into purchasing it during sales events, leading to buyer's remorse.

Best for

Parents with compact cars who need to fit multiple car seats across. The tradeoff is that it may not be the most comfortable option for larger toddlers.

Bottom line

The Graco SlimFit3 LX is a great option for families needing a narrow car seat, but be mindful of its fit for larger toddlers as they grow.

Thread: "3 Across Car Seats"

The Triride is quite wide and doesn’t play well with 3 across. Normally it’s not super efficient to buy a convertible seat for a kid who already forward faces, but the Graco Slimfit3 LX/Graco True3Fit LX (same seat at different retailers; no other version with Slimfit in the name will work) is going to be the best option for replacing the Triride. It has a forward facing seatbelt lockoff that will allow you to achieve a secure seatbelt install in the center seat. Try that first, it may work with the 2 Snugrides but the bases will need to be seatbelt installed (not latch) with the 2 outer car seats pulled as close to the doors as possible. If you can’t get a secure install that way, try Graco’s Snuglock bases for the infant seats for an easier install (they’re compatible with all current Graco infant car seats). If that doesn’t work, the Chicco Keyfit35 works in this configuration with a slimfit3 LX in the center- I’ve personally done that configuration successfully in the same generation of compass. I know it sucks to spend money on more car seats when that’s needed, but it’s cheaper than a new car 🫠

My understanding is that the swivel seats are some of the largest ones on the market. I don't think there's any way you'll fit one in a Corolla. I have a Mazda 3 with a Graco Slimfit in it, that fits well, we have the Graco forever in our other vehicle, it's larger front to back than the Slimfit.

The Graco Slimfit definitely fits in my Outback! I could also do 2x keyfits with the Keyfit 35 base and the Slimfit in the middle.

we’ve got 3 under 2 (in april) so they all need to rear face. we ended up having to buy new seats but it’s cheaper than a new car. britax poplar for our (almost) 2 year old, and britax willows for the twins. all 17” across and fit in my equinox. DO NOT GET DIONO! they’re clunky front to back, and they change their installs SO OFTEN it’s so tricky to do it right. get the graco slimfit lx3, it’s the same width but not a pain in the rear brand to deal with and install.

Graco slimfit3LX is the holy grail of affordable and easy to install three across for sure. Graco's infant seats aren't as slim as some others, like the Chico Keyfit I know is one slimmer one. An inch or two can make or break three across

Slimfit3 LX is their actual narrowest seat. Not to be confused with the Slimfit LX 3in1. Both models are on the same Amazon listing if that’s where you’re shopping. You select a different color and the model actually changes. Be aware!

We love our Graco slim fit. It fits well in our Mazda 3 and my mother’s Prius. We also have the Graco extend2fit and while it seems very comfy for our LO, the sides are pretty high and I have to almost bump her head on the roof of my Mazda CX-5 to get her into the seat. I’ll also add both seats grow with the kids into booster seats for up to 100 pounds, which is a nice plus!

I have both of these car seat, one in my car and one in my moms car. They both have pros and cons but what car you drive will impact how they fit in a car. I’m pretty sure all car seats can be installed on planes in Canada. Between the Graco and the britax the Graco is much lighter for transport. The britax is faster to install but honestly once you practice the Graco doesn’t take that much longer either. My mums car is a Hyundai Santa Fe. There is no way an adult could fit comfortably in the middle with either of these seats. Then are compact front to back but not width wise - usually seat are one or the other If three across is important the Graco slim fit is the narrowest on the market right now that’s also smaller back to front. But you’ll need a pretty big vehicle to safely have three across

They actually have a blog I didn't know about! Basically the most recommended convertible seats for the vast majority of vehicles are Graco (Graco extend 2 fit, 4ever, SlimFit). [https://csftl.org/recommended-seats-canada/](https://csftl.org/recommended-seats-canada/) I had a boujie infant seat (Clek) and now have a Graco like I mentioned, and I will say that the harness/clips/some other random things are significantly less nice than with the fancier seat. BUT it's a good fit, and my son is safe which is the most important. I think I will probably buy a nicer seat (thinking of Britax) for my second when the time comes.

Thread: "graco extend2fit or britax boulevard clicktight?"

CPST- Both are excellent seats. The install of the Britax is dead simple and can be done in 30 seconds. The extend2fit is very easy with UAS but once you hit the UAS limit the seatbelt can make it challenging to install. Neither are compact side to side and unless you have a giant truck 3 across is likely not going to work with either of these seats. 3 across is very technical (whether it's 2 car seats and an adult or 3 car seats) as everybody and every seat needs their own rebound room. A big con for the Britax is that it is not allowed to have headrest interference when forward facing. I would definitely check if your headrests are removable because if they are then both seats will have no issues. Regardless, try both seats in your vehicle before purchasing. As a couple of others have mentioned, the Graco slimfit is a new option that's compact front to back and side to side. There's still no 3-across guarantee but it does leave a little more room than the other two. All seats sold in Canada have the round white CMVS sticker on it. That is what the airline will check before allowing you on the plane. As long as you buy your car seat in Canada you are allowed to bring it on the plane. That being said, always check the dimensions of the plane seat before bringing your seat as the airlines tend to be making their seats smaller and smaller these days!

The Diono boosters are well loved. And if someone is buying and Everett (a dedicated high back booster), there’s no need for a Slimfit3 LX since they won’t use the harnessing capabilities.

I do have both in fact so I feel uniquely qualified to answer. One in my car and the other in my husband’s. I would only get the Slimfit if you anticipate having 3 across before any get to booster seats. The extend2fit just seems more comfortable/roomy so it’s easier to get my large son into, the straps don’t get twisted as easily, it has cup holders, and it has a higher weight limit for rear facing. My husband and I both really prefer the extend2fit so that’s what I’d recommend.

Many big babies end up dropping on the growth curve, especially if their genetics are on the smaller side. For most people, the 40 vs 50 pound limit won’t make a difference until you want to rear face past age 4. The average kid is 40 pounds at some point when they’re 4. My husband is 6’4 and I’m 5’8 and we had 80th to 95th percentile babies… and my daughter only hit 38-39 pounds at 4.5. She turns 5 next week and she still fluctuates between 38-40 pounds. My youngest is almost 3 and has been around 30 pounds for a few months now. We have a SlimFit3LX which has a limit of 40 pounds and I have no doubt she’ll be able to rear face in it until at leaaaaast 4.

I have the cybex sirona s, the Chicco fit360, and 2 Graco slim fits. My fave is the chicco. It’s so easy to swivel and looks way nicer than the cybex. The cybex has an app that warns you of the temp and I think reminds you to get your kid but the alerts were constant and honestly annoying. I turned it off. The cybex has a support leg that supposedly makes it safer but now you can really put larger things on the floor where the Carseat is. The slim fits are our travel car seats and they’re ok. They’re good for that they need to be - inexpensive and light so they’re easy to travel with.

I’ve been doing 3 across for 11 weeks now. Going today to pick up my minivan. Didn’t want to do it but 3 across is just not sustainable. When I have to get my toddler out I have to take one baby seat out, set it on the ground, reach in to the toddler to unbuckle. That’s precious seconds I don’t have eyes on the baby on the ground. It’s just not safe when you’re anywhere but home. If you feel you have to do it (I get it, funds in this economy) my toddler has the slimfit LX and the twins are in the Graco snugride 35 DLX. It “fits” technically. In my Honda HR-V Trust me, if you can swing it, upgrade your vehicle! So you don’t end up juggling a new car purchase/car sale after they come!

Most Canadian vehicles are not compatible with 3 across in the back seat. Just because the e doors close does not mean the seats are installed correctly. There is usually at least one seatbelt overlap in the back which means it one the best with the overlap cannot safely be used.

They’re all safe, they have to be to be sold on the US market. But for example, I had a Cosco Scenera, pretty much the cheapest convertible seat on the market. It’s basically just a shell. No extended rear facing, you have to rethread the car seat yourself when your child grows, it doesn’t have different recline options, but it’s extremely light weight and great for traveling. Now my graco slim fit, I can raise the straps while my kid is in the seat by pulling a lever. There are different recline levels, extended rear facing, I can take the cover off in parts and not have to worry about the straps so it’s easier to clean. It’s also an easy install. So what you’re paying for are features, and you just need to decide what you’re willing to pay for

The 4ever seems the most likely a recliner so I think she probably likes it best, but followed closely by turn2me. I wanted a revolving and tried turn2me, the graco 360, and city jogger in store before that big chain shut down. City jogger had the nicest fabric and best button but it was most expensive and the base felt slightly less stable than turn2me. Graco felt really cheap and the buttons are not ergonomic at all and in a terrible location. Just would neever get that one. Graco turn2me is what I bought and I love it. It is on the larger side, but all the revolving ones are. And wouldn't say it's too much larger than standard car seats in rear facing.
