Thread: "how good is Graco 4Ever DLX Grad car seat? or would you recommend us something else? my baby is 6 months old almost 7"
First figure out if you have 1 or 2 children at the moment. If you’re only sure that you have one then the 2nd one is probably a goner. Sorry.

My wife meets the criteria for our 4-in-1 Graaco

Do you ever anticipate needing to do 3 across? This seat is really wide, so something to consider.

I too choose this guy's wife's 4-in-1 Graco.

Graco is a very solid brand. I would be confident buying any car seat they make

Extend2fit. My older kid is 6 and armpit height on me. Stayed rear facing in it until 4. Affordable. Easy to install. The 3-in-1 version of it also does high back booster which gets you through most of elementary school but the 2-in-1 is great, cheapest, and easy to find. But both have SO much leg room. We stuck with it for our second kid (3yo) and have it installed in a compact car (Nissan leaf) and a small SUV (Nissan rogue). Was t-boned last year and she barely noticed anything happened. Literally couldn't open the doors and she talked about how "we got bumped a little". Not the 4ever. It's ridiculously expensive and heavy. And by the time you get to low booster you're going to want a new & lightweight seat anyway, and that's if it hasn't expired.

Graco has never let us down, 4 kids later.

We went straight to the convertible car seat with my oldest (Graco DLX 4 in 1) and he still uses it (he’ll be 2 in October). Honestly we didn’t miss the use of an infant seat at all. We mostly baby wore him or put him in the bassinet setting of the stroller when we went out. We’ll be doing the same with baby two in Sept. Already bought and installed her Graco convertible seat 👍🏻

We’ve had this seat almost 6 years now and just transitioned it to the high back booster for our oldest. Currently own 4 of them for two kids and two very different cars. Zero complaints.

It looks like you still have the newborn insert in? If so, just remove that.

Hi! Chest clip should be at armpit level, any lower and it could hurt baby's organs in an accident!

Remove the infant insert. I have the same car seat for both my kids.

This seat is one of the lowest price you can go that's still be in the good seats category. If you are fine with spending more, then Nuna rava is very comfy premium seat.

I would try taking out the infant insert, and then make sure his butt is all the way back and he is sitting up as high as possible before sinching it tight! My babe is 15 lbs and definitely doesn't need the infant insert

Cup holders will also need added, the seat was tested with them so they’re required

We have the Graco 4Ever® DLX 4-in-1 Car Seat. We love it. But I’m sure if I went down the rabbit hole, I would have felt overwhelmed with all the choices too. I think this one might have been recommended and then we used a 20% coupon through the website. I can’t remember if it’s Chicco or Graco, but there’s at least one out there that has this slide out leg rest thing that’s supposed to help them stretch out more/stay backwards for longer. You could check that one out. Also, consider seeing what Costco or Sam’s club has. You might be able to find a good deal there too. Best wishes!

We got the Graco 4ever 4in1 convertible car seat. It lasts 10 years and turns into a booster seat when needed. We used the Uppababy mesa too and my 8 month old looks a lot more comfortable in the Graco now. It doesn’t rotate, while they are convenient, I personally didn’t want one.
Thread: "At what age did you turn the car seat to forward-facing?"
I thought that was joke. **120lbs** and 4’9”? I mean….listen having crazy high levels like that basically make it more impossible to determine when to safely stop using a car seat. I’m not keeping my daughter in a booster until junior high.

I have this same seat for my son and had the exact same issue. For us, we couldn’t use the insert at all and we had to mess with the degree adjustment a lot too. We figured it out though and he seems really comfortable in it now.

Make sure you do the pinch test every time you tighten the straps. Pull it tight and then pinch the strap at the shoulder with two fingers. If you can pinch any of it then the straps are too loose. If the strap slides out between your fingers without being able to grab any then it is correct. The chest clip is also a bit low in this picture. It should be higher up between the armpits. I think if you tighten the straps all the way then it would be in the right spot. I cannot see where the straps are but just make sure that they are below the shoulders when it is fully tightened.

Make sure you're using recline 1. Pull the chest clip down to the crotch buckle, and retighten straps so they pass the pinch test, then reposition the chest clip to be in line with the armpits. Try to fit babe in without the shoulder pads (as some kiddos fit better without them until they're older) and without the insert. When you remove the insert, make sure to readjust the headrest so the straps come from a spot below the shoulders. Your insert does NOT have a weight limit, and can be used anytime in rear facing mode only. Which means it is optional. And last but not least, graco requires cupholders to be installed as they're a significant piece of the structural integrity of the seat and not installing the cupholders may not allow the seat to properly protect your child in the event of an accident.
Thread: "Do we NEED an infant car seat? "
I personally really like the infant car seat because you can get them all buckled and ready to go while still inside and then they can chill while you finish collecting your diaper bag, putting shoes on, making a to go coffee etc. I actually switched to the 3in1 car seat at around 8 months and then ended up switching back to the infant seat until my baby officially outgrows it because I like it a lot more and baby seems comfier in it.
Thread: "Please help me pick a car seat!"
Highly recommend the SEATS for kids discussion group on FB. There are CPSTs that can offer the best options for your car and family stats. If you have a more compact vehicle, you’ll want to go with the Graco 4Ever, Extend2Fit, or Evertstage. There are a couple Britax that are compact front to back as well but I can never remember the names.

lol, I said none…then just the one. Then, only the 2 and, finally, put a permanent stop after the third because it was clear I could not be trusted.

We have 2 of these and I really like them. I prefer these because of how easy they are to clean compared to the first seats we had. The cover comes off really easily and can go in the washer (on delicate), and the seat itself is easy to wipe down and vacuum out.

I read a lot on the Car Crash Detective to decide on a convertible seat for my toddler. Ended up getting the Graco extend2Fit. My runner ups were the Graco 4ever dlx and the evenflo every stage dlx

I'll be the other side of the coin...I had problems with this seat. It never worked for my daughter. In fact the day we put it in she started getting car sick. Every time. Even around the block. I couldn't get her to fit right and her chin was to her chest every time I adjusted. I spent hours on the phone with them. They eventually had me send it back. I spent the refund money on another brand and behold!..car sickness cured! Not every seat is the same.

I have this one for my daughter and it’s a great seat. It fits in most cars and works both forward facing and rear facing (and booster I think?). Technically, no, you wouldn’t need an infant car seat on top of that one but infant car seats have their perks of being easy to take in and out of the car, fits on strollers, etc, which is extremely useful when your little one is young.
Thread: "I’m Overwhelmed With Infant Car seats. FTM"
Same, and I didn’t like the idea of my girl being in the infant car seat too long, so that’s why we went with a convertible (Graco 4ever).

Maybe the cushion under him will help? I removed it from mine and it helped.
Thread: "FTM here , Did I buy the wrong car seat ? Will this be acceptable to take baby home in & didn’t realize it didn’t have a cover to cover them / keep the sunlight out in the car. It’s 3 in 1."
I have this car seat. Here’s my take 14 months out: Pros: My daughter fit in it well even as a newborn. The padding goes on and off easily and is easy to run through the washing machine. The cup holders are nice to have when they’re a little older. The seat looks really comfortable, and she does fall asleep a little more readily in this seat than in her other car seats. I like that this seat can grow with her. Cons: It’s gigantic! Because of that, once it’s installed, it’s going to live in your car. There’s no carrying this car seat around with you if she falls asleep in the car. There’s no good way to travel with this thing. I bought it because I only wanted to buy one car seat ever, but we ended up having to buy one for the nanny, and one for each set of grandparents because I can’t feasibly lug this thing on a plane. It fits fine in my giant SUV, but in a lot of cars it would take up so much room that you wouldn’t be able to move the front seats back far. Verdict: If I had to do it all over again, I’d probably buy an infant car seat compatible with my stroller, and use the Graco seat for the older toddler years. Waking up a sleeping baby during a car ride is lame, and I wish I had something that would travel well.

I have the Graco and wife has the Nuna. Every time I use the Graco I wish we were taking wife’s car lol.
Thread: "Graco 4ever car seat [on]"
This seat is something you install in your car and it stays in the car. It’s not like the bucket seats where you detach from the base and take out of the vehicle. The one you posted is what they call a convertible seat. You can use it from newborn on. Bucket seats are better in the beginning for taking sleeping baby out of car and into stores without waking them. But not everybody starts with a bucket seat!

Is that an infant insert under him? If so, check the manual for the weight to remove it at. It’s usually pretty early on.

I personally remember really liking the britax brand because the Click Tight feature made accurate installation a breeze. This meant that my husband or mom could get a seat installed in their cars the first try and it was a good install. The weight limits for the latch system are pretty low so many more years were spent using a buckle installation the latch install.

Same car seat and same kind of chunky kid. It’s just time to take out the infant parts and readjust.

My Graco 4ever kept my 2 year old safe in a *MAJOR* car accident in 2019 (I was hospitalized by comparison). When I reported the accident to our auto insurance, the rep commented that is one of the best seats based on the various reports she’d taken over the years.

You have to lean it back more and if you call your fire department or CHP they will do a proper install for you as well and two CHP is the highway patrol or like I said the fire department one or the other does it for you either the police station but just call your local fire department and they'll direct you to the right Department and no install it properly for you and everything to wear that doesn't happen

If the cops in your area are anything like the cops in mind, the fire department has a much safer bet. Especially for a non-white family. They're also some stores that have trained people. The local one around here used to be babies are us but it's out of business now.
