My breastfed baby struggled with Phillips Avent naturals, but does great with Evenflo Balance! He also will take Dr. Browns.

My baby will not take a bottle if she senses I’m around. I assume this is because she prefers milk straight from the tap. My husband and mom have successfully given her a bottle but I had to step into another room. Can you try to leave the room and have someone else try? We’ve had success pace feeding with Evenflo Balance bottles.

If the nipple passes the "triangle test," meaning the nipple is in the shape of a triangle, it will encourage a deep latch and promote strong oral development. Evenflo Balance, Dr. Brown's narrow, Lansinoh, Pigeon, NUK perfect match are a few.

Thread: "Bottle for breastfed baby"
Our lactation consultant recommended Evenflo Balance, Lansinoh, and Dr Browns. She said that the best nipples for breastfed babies are narrow at the tip and get wider. My oldest liked the Dr Browns and my current baby likes the Evenflo ones.
Evenflo balance and lansinoh are the bottles recommended by pretty much every IBCLC and SLP! If what you’re doing is working, great. However if you’re up for the switch those two bottles are best (also, much less pieces that dr browns!)

My IBCLC said it was important that the nipple allows for a proper latch for oral development. There’s lots of bottles that allow for a proper latch and don’t encourage shallow latching. Dr browns (the narrow ones, not the wide bottles), Lansinoh, pigeon, nuk perfect match, gulicola, evenflo balance (wide and classic), spectra, munchkin bond, boon curve (not the regular one), quark and there’s more. We use a mix of Lansinoh, pigeon and spectra

Our lactation consultant said the best bottles to enforce a deep latch are the evenflow balance and the pigeon silicone nipples. Basically don’t use bottles that have a shoulders and head shape. Instead find ones with a gradual transition.

Thread: "Bottle recommendations"
My LC recommended the Lansinoh bottle or the Evenflo balance bottles for breastfed babies. I was previously using the como tomo bottles and then my little guy randomly started rejecting it one day and developed a preference for the boob. I purchased the Lansinoh bottle and have had minimal issues with bottle feeding. He still prefers the boob but I can tell his latch is MUCH better with the Lansinoh bottle compared to the como tomo one.

Same. Dr Brown's were good for pace feeding, because the OT taught us to hold the bottle like a pencil. That wouldn't have worked with wider or heavier bottles. We switched to Avent Natural Glass as soon as possible though. ETA - If you want to breastfeed you should pick a bottle that let's the baby get a deeper latch. The Lanisoh ones and Evenflo Balance are supposed to be the best for that and the Dr Browns are good too. The problem with bottles like the Comotomo, they look more like a boob, but they actually encourage baby to latch really shallow. Full disclosure though, I'm not breastfeeding and I like the Comotomo bottles otherwise. I'm hoping to switch to them when my baby is able to hold his own bottle.

Recommended to change around 3-4 months of age You’ll know you need to change it if baby is taking too long to finish bottle more than 5 mins per ounce or if baby keeps flattening the nipple (despite clearing the venting system) If you’re looking for Evenflo balance nipples you can purchase from www.breastfeedsplus.ca

I’d suggest getting one of those bottles and then one of a few others. We tried Philips Avent, Evenflo Balance, Lansinoh & Pigeon. Even though they all start as “slow flow” there’s no regulation on what that actually means. Some were wayyy too fast for my baby (she is combo fed with both breast and bottle though). I personally use the Pigeon nipples but you can use them with a variety of wide neck bottles (see second photo [here](https://lactationhub.com/pigeonSS) )

So ideally you want a bottle with a gradually sloped nipple so that baby is maintaining a wide hamburger latch like on the breast. Many IBCLCs like Evenflo balance bottles (wide neck) and Lansinoh for this reason. My mom taught daycare for a lot of years and said it often helps with bf babies to feed them facing away from you and let them look out the window. Some of them apparently don’t like to see the person feeding them if it isn’t their mom lol. That is how my son took his bottles when I was working.

I second the Evenflo Balance bottles. That’s what our lactation consultant recommended. I also had success with swapping to the medium flow nipples as, I guess, I have a fast let down/flow and she (6mo) was frustrated by the slow flow nipples.
Narrow Dr browns in our house. My oldest refused anything else and my youngest couldn’t properly use anything else.
Bonus is the nipple is shaped like the single use ones from ready to feed formula and its usually what they use in the hospital if baby has a shorter stay
If you have the ones with green vent you can take out the venting system once baby is older and then it’s only three pieces like any other bottle.
Avent anti colic is nice too and you don’t need the vent to use it just like dr browns so you can stop using it when it seems baby won’t need it. I used that bottle with a pigeon ss nipple for a minute.
Regular avent didn’t remotely work the nipples are either nothing comes out or child will choke drinking and then throw up fast.
I’d just get 1 or 2 at first and see what baby likes. I’d do a narrow like Dr brown or evenflo balance narrow and a wide like avent, evenflo balance, or Lansinoh (with a pigeon ss nipples because Lansinoh only comes with medium or fast nipples. They done have slow so too fast for a newborn)
