Hear me out, you can only put. At max, 3.8oz in one of the 4oz bottles. And once it starts leaking, basically gfy. You have to take the top off and wipe the lid. It creates a siphon that will drain non stop until it is empty. I can't tell you how much this pissed me off until i figured out dr.brown is a god damn liar.

Love them. Hate cleaning all the parts. Our son has terrible reflux and these are the only bottles that don’t *always* make him spit up his whole meal.

I have had that happen several times but I think it had to do with warming the bottle. After warming I now unscrew the cap then screw it back on and that seems to have resolved the issue.

I thought this post was funny 🤷 but since nobody else seems to actually want to explain it, here are some videos: This one shows how air in and around the bottle creates a vacuum: https://youtu.be/UeEaMaQyzqY Whenever baby takes a breath, air tries to rush in through the nipple to equalize the pressure, and that aerates the milk, which can upset some babies' stomachs. This shows how the anti-colic bottles attempt to resolve it: https://youtu.be/K5cAKH8nYGU

Unfortunately, daycares don’t allow glass bottles so I don’t have any choice but to stick with it. Realistically, this child existing on this planet will result in them ingesting some level of toxin. It’s unavoidable.

I like to think of them as very basic one way valves: they let air in when the pressure in the bottle goes down, but don't allow liquid (if seated properly) or air to come out. That's what those little notches on the sides of the ring do.

How are the Brown's bottles leaking for you guys? We've been using exclusively bottles for 3 months and we have 9 bottles total. The only times they have leaked are when the stem assembly was left off accidentally or when the cap was not screwed on right. It's never been an issue for us. Maybe we're just lucky? If you are nursing in addition to bottle feeding it is recommended to stick to the premie nipples. We use premie plus the "T" nipples which are between P and level 1.

Dr browns with premie nipples and comotomo slow flow… and we’ve tried so many and these actually are slow flow! The Phillips avent in a 0 or 1 are also god options, but they don’t drip. The baby has to actively suck to get milk. My babe had trouble with that.

I personally hate the dr browns bottles bc they leak and there are so many parts to wash, but they did work well for my baby for a while. I would buy different nipple sizes, as the size 1s are pretty fast flow. You could try premie or transitional nipples (both available on Amazon). We now use the evenflo bottles which are much easier to deal with.

We've used the Avent ones and you can watch the air bubbles move back into the bottle away from the nipple. We didn't like the Dr brown's ones and I didn't think they did much but done people live them

I bought 3 different type of bottles including dr browns. I never noticed a difference with gas or reflux with any of them. In fact the dr browns were my least favorite of them all because the nipples were too narrow and all the parts were a pain in the ass to clean and put together. I will never use them again.

Thanks I needed this. We’ve invested a lot into dr browns bottles. The compromise is heating milk up in a glass mason jar and pouring into the plastic bottle to feed, and hand washing because heat and dishwashers make the problem worse.

Yeah I just went to the desk and asked for a baby registry welcome bag, and they handed me one without even asking my name. I guess some stores just don't get a lot of people asking? I could probably go to the 4 other stores in my area and get another welcome bag from all of them.

I'm one of those where the air flow inserts made no difference. We kept testing some with and without, and I couldn't tell a difference. That said, the nipples sometimes collapse if you don't use them, especially on the wider bottles so I do put it in those.

We only use dr browns and we used vents and inserts for sometime and then got frustrated and went off them for a while. Baby started colic symptoms , not sure if it was due to taking off the vent or starting solids. Now we added them back and all is great.

I’ll chime in as someone who used exclusively these and say it hasn’t been an issue for us. Smaller (4oz) bottles are definitely worse, but it still only was once in a while for us. If we did have a leak, the white bottle tops were usually the issue (it got bent in the bottle washer), so we just replaced those. And all the parts are cheap & readily available separately

They work really well for us and were great for when LO had reflux. I got used to cleaning the parts. We also really like the smilo bottles and seemed to be good for reflux.

Thread: "What bottles to buy for newborn??"

Our baby hated the Dr. Brown’s bottles, fussed the whole time and spit up more, and there are so many parts to clean. Also we had an issue where we packed two of them in an insulated bag to take on an outing and they both exploded and leaked everywhere. we realized there was yet ANOTHER part to put on to make sure it didn’t leak. She loves the Philips Avent bottles. However nipples they come with for newborns (3) was actually too slow of a release for her, and she would get so tired of sucking and give up, so we use the size 4 nipples (which say 3 months on the packaging).

Thread: "Dr Brown bottles be like…"

It is the nipple really. Most nipples only fit with their own brand bottles. So that is why people talk about the bottle brand as a whole. Some bottles also have designs to attempt to reduce colic (gassiness, crying, etc.), which involve extra small parts. I could also see maybe a baby being able to hold certain bottles easier than others. If it is very wide and large then the baby can't fit their small hands around it or it may be too heavy. So the goal is to use a bottle with nipple that baby prefers and also isn't a total pain to wash.

We are happy with it. Got it with free baby registry gift bag and baby had no problem with it. So we never explored other brands. So can’t compare. Price is less expensive compare to the other ones mentioned here. I got a few for rotations so i don’t need to rush to wash all the parts for every feeding. They leak sometimes. I read that people usually have problems after they warmed the milk. So what I usually did is to re-tighten the bottle right before I feed the baby and not much of a problem since.

lol thank you. We went with Avima bottles from the beginning based on all the Dr Browns reviews of people saying how sick they were of the leaking and washing all the parts. Our nanny recommended Dr Browns a few months later so we gave in and tried it for a while. The only difference was more washing for us and no real difference for our baby. We’ve since gone back to the Avima bottles and are doing just fine. I also don’t get why these are just considered the default bottles these days instead of specialty bottles for babies who particularly need them. Oh well!

We had to start topping up each feed with formula to help my little one gain weight and the baby brezza formula maker was a game changer. Made life soooo much easier. As for sterilizers we have a Philips one but are currently on vacation where there is a dr Browns combo sterilizer and dryer and my husband says we’re getting our own when we get home! We use dr browns bottles on the advice of our lactation consultant because they have preemie nipples that make our little one work harder for the bottle (trying to keep her motivated for breast feeding) and they have worked really well. I think other companies also have preemie nipples too but dr brown’s were easiest to find.

Ditto! Dr Browns was far too fast for our newborn. Phillips Avent Natural size 2 has been much better for our fussy feeder!
