Clek Foonf
The Clek Foonf is a convertible car seat designed for children from 5 to 50 pounds, featuring a high rear-facing weight limit and a narrow design for fitting three across in most vehicles. It is made in Canada and includes safety features such as an anti-rebound bar and a LATCH system for secure installation.
Pros (+)
- High rear-facing weight limit for extended use
- Narrow design fits three across in most vehicles
- Durable build quality with excellent safety features
Cons (−)
- Heavy, making it difficult to move between vehicles
- Complex installation compared to other car seats
- Not machine washable, which can be inconvenient
Why parents like it
Parents appreciate the high rear-facing weight limit, allowing for extended use. The narrow design is also a hit for families needing to fit multiple car seats in one vehicle.
Common complaints
The weight of the Foonf is a common concern, especially for parents who need to move it frequently. Additionally, several parents find the installation process to be more complicated than other car seats.
Parents who prioritize safety and need a narrow car seat for fitting multiple seats. The tradeoff is its heavy weight and potentially tricky installation.
The Clek Foonf offers excellent safety features and durability, but its weight and installation complexity may not suit every family's needs.

Thread: "Stuck overthinking car seats"
I understand the anxiety you feel about this, but your child is not going to eat their car seat. They aren't even going to chew on it. They will be okay in any car seat that fits their body. I have the Clek Fllo in one of the colors that's only free of brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, and I love it. It feels *very* secure, and the Foonf has even more safety features, so I think that's a great choice. We have a black car that already gets hot in the summer, so choosing a lighter color felt like the right choice for us.
Thread: "Clek Floof, Nuna Rava and Britax One4Life"
CPST- i recommend joining the seats for kids discussion group. They will give you great info. In case you can’t join I will give you a little info to get you started. The nuna rava is not a recommended seat by techs. It has super exaggerated limits and is often outgrown much earlier than the stated limits. It also has no level indicator so it’s hard to know if it’s at a safe angle for your baby when rear facing. Definitely one I would recommend having a tech install if you went with it. For the super elevated price there are many better seats. The clek foonf is the only seat from your list that is recommended by techs. It’s built like a tank and has some amazing safety features for forward facing. It has lower limits than the fllo and the britax one4life but it has the patented react safety system for ff that reduces the impact on the child in a collision. Clek is the only seat manufacturer in Canada that actually publishes their testing scores. Their customer service is impossible to beat. The fllo would also be a great choice and has the 50lb rf limit but same height limit (43”) as the foonf. Both excellent seats and go on sale often. The britax one4life i own personally (mainly for the extended rf limits and the fact that I transport a couple different children). I love the clicktight feature of it. That being said the clek seats are also a breeze to install so I wouldn’t say the Britax has much of an advantage over clek install wise. The 4 in 1 seats are usually not recommended by techs because people use them thinking they will be able to use all the features. When you get to ff mode, Britax seats do not allow headrest interference at all. If your headrests are not removable (read your vehicle manual) you may not be able to buy a Britax seat. In addition, seats that say they have a booster mode do not necessarily fit your car well when in booster mode. They do not necessarily fit your child well either. That’s hard to predict when it’s still many years away. I’m general, we say if you’re buying a 4in1 expect to still buy a dedicated booster down the line as your 4in1 will be gross and chunky by the time your kid is ready for a booster. All 3 seats you mentioned are medium to large when rf. What kind of vehicle do you have? Your seat choice should be largely dependent on that. Sorry for the long message. I hope this helped somewhat.
Thread: "Struggling to pick a convertible car seat - worth it to spend more or less?"
We chose a Clek mainly because it was Canadian. Their customer service is incredible and their products are fantastic. I was t-boned by a school bus and the impact was directly on my Foonf and there was not a dent or scratch externally. It was replaced by our local auto insurance as a safety measure to ensure nothing inside was damaged but after that, I will never buy anything else. Edited to add: also has great warranty, extended rear facing and easy to clean!
Thread: "Which Car seat did you get after infant car seat? [ON]"
I have a clek foonf for after baby is out of her liing. But the correct answer is whatever fits your vehicle and budget. Carseats all meet the same minimum safety standards in Canada, so any seat you choose will be safe.
Thread: "Safest convertible car seat for baby?"
We went with the Canadian-made Clek Foonf car seats. They're built like tanks and are super heavy, yet they aren't too big. Their narrow profile allowed my wife to sit in between two them in the middle row of our van. Because of their heft, they are not the easiest to install. But once you secure them with the latch system and the vehicle seatbelts, they really feel like part of your car. On another note, my kids can sit through very long car trips without fussing so apparently these seats are quite comfortable as well.

We also got the Nuna rava, and when I was researching it last fall, it was ranked #2 in terms of safety. I can’t remember who was rating it or where I read that, so I know this information isn’t helpful. But I decided that #2 combined with the lack of flame retardants and extended rear facing was enough for me to splurge on the rava. I’ve been very happy with it, and we’ll be getting a second one for the next baby, maybe even skipping the baby bucket altogether. ETA: the rava and clek foonf have the highest rear facing weight limit on the market at 50lb, according to [strolleria.](https://strolleria.com/blogs/news/clek-foonf-vs-nuna-rava-convertible-car-seat-comparison) Also, now that I’m looking at the stats again, it has a higher max height capacity at 49”, which is also probably a reason I chose it since our kiddo is on the taller side for his age.
Thread: "Nuna RAVA car seat worth price? [On]"
Clek has similar fabric if you want to explore those options. We have a foonf and are very happy. CPSTs are regulated. Here’s more info on their governing body… https://www.cpsac.org CPST recommendations are often based on quality of fit and install. You can have a fancy seat with all sorts of safety features, but if it’s incorrectly or poorly installed/fit then those features really mean nothing. I find their recommendations also focus on how long a seat can accommodate a child rear facing, since children are safer rear facing longer. Here are some CPST critiques of the Rava… - lower than average harness height (won’t last as long) - single recline and can’t use rolled towels to adjust (can lead to poor fit and limited duration for use) - includes a lot of padding, which must be removed for infants over 11 lbs (can lead to people using padding they shouldn’t be or paying for something you’re not even using) - lots of small steps to proper install which leads to improperly installed/used seat - anti rebound is kicked off easily and the seat can’t be used safely without it. Lots of parents of toddlers struggle with this - difficult to clean - some reports of people finding the straps tough to tighten.
Thread: "car seat decision"
Building off of this, you may also consider if you're likely to have tall, skinny kids, or kiddos who may be on the chunkier side. If tall, skinny kids are likely, the Clek may not last you quite as long as you're hoping as kids often outgrow it height-wise way before the weight limit. From a usability standpoint, the Britax has a harness that adjusts with the headrest, where the Clek looks like you have to re-thread the harness through a higher spot. That may make you less likely to actually have the correct harness position for your child as it is more of a challenge to adjust and you would need to completely uninstall the seat to do so. But, like the other poster noted, they're both rated to be safe in the US. Safety is mostly associated with how easy they are to install well in your particular car and how easy they are to fit to your particular child, so pick the one that seems like it'll make those the easiest for you to get right.
Thread: "Stroller compatible with Clek Liing car seat [ab]"
We have the uppababy vista and love it! We got it on super sale and it came with a bassinet. You can also attach two seats for two kids or get a toddler ride on board. But I’m sure there’s lots of other options out there that might be a better fit for you, so def figure out what you want in a stroller first. I will say though that the liing is AMAZING!!! We’re switching to a bigger car seat soon (the foonf) and I’ll be sad when we’re no longer using the liing. Our baby has always loved it and has had many naps in it. It was soooo nice for long walks in the early days. The adapters for the uppababy vista raise the car seat quite high on the stroller which I also loved but does make it more top heavy, so I made sure not to let go of the stroller if I didn’t have stuff in the bottom basket.
Thread: "Clek Floof, Nuna Rava and Britax One4Life"
We have a Clek Foonf and Fllo and love both. Fllo is a little cheaper so worth checking out the differences if you go the Clek route. We will buy another two Fllos for baby #2. We don’t let our kiddo eat in the car other than the occasional cup of cheerios etc and water so the seat has never needed more than a vacuum in the year we have used them although we do have the Clek cleaning kit if needed. My son seems comfortable and he likes being able to see out the window (they sit high) so I think it’s extended his tolerance for car rides in that sense. I like that it has a steel frame, anti-rebound bar, extended rear-facing, Canadian made. Edit: [here’s a comparison chart](https://www.snugglebugz.ca/learning_centre/clek-foonf-vs-fllo-car-seats?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgJLHg_y6-wIVfCqtBh003gYEEAAYASAAEgJG7fD_BwE) I think the angle part of the Foonf would be important if you’re using it for an infant (we did a infant bucket seat first so this didn’t come into play) and in my car I couldn’t get a good install with the rigid latch so did a belt install anyway.
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
I have 3 Foonf seats and my kids love them. We have done lots of road trips with zero issues. Also they’re the super easy to clean and the safest on the market. No losing!
Thread: "car seat decision"
Both of them pass the same safety standards in the US so both are quite safe. Personally, assuming you can get a good install in your car for both, I’d go with the Clel Foonf which has a higher rearfacing limit so should allow you to keep your kid rearfacing longer.
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
We had a Foonf. I loved it (and never found cleaning it to be an issue with the overpriced Foonf sprays), but my daughter (4) always complained that her butt/legs hurt on 15 minute+ car rides. I assumed for a long time that she just didn’t like riding in the car. But then, about 6 months ago, in anticipation of a longer car ride, I tried swapping the seat out for the Britax that my parents use. She didn’t complain once that trip. We have since bought a Britax to replace the Foonf because the difference was so noticeable to her.
Thread: "Can’t decide between Clek Fnoof and Britax one4life [ON]"
I will just say we have two Clek’s and I absolutely love them! We rarely need to take them out so their heft isn’t an issue for us. We’ve only had my son forward facing in them, but as a 3.5 year old he can climb into it independently (with a low stool on the car floor to help). He’s also a kid with lots of opinions and has never complained about comfort.
Thread: "Stuck overthinking car seats"
As a floonf owner - avoid it. We HATE ours. My husband refuses to buckle our daughter (2) if I’m there because it’s so difficult, it’s very difficult to instal, adjusting the straps is frustrating, moving the buckle is inconvenient… yes it seemed to be more safe and that’s why we went wihh th it. Beauty, safety, not flame retardant. But I will never recommend it to Anyone. Day to day it’s awful. We had an uppababy bucket seat and it was SO incredibly easy. Now I see my friends with their toddler seats too and I feel silly for having such a poorly designed chair.
Thread: "Difference between expensive infant seats and less expensive infant seats"
On the topic of length and fit specifically, I look for seats that can accommodate my tall, long-torso kids for the longest. They will not get anywhere near outgrowing a seat by weight, but they max out height early. So if you have any reason to believe baby will reach height or weight limits early, that is a good first step to narrow down the options. Personally, we use the Clek Liing for infant seat, and then transition to the Clek Foonf for convertible seat. They have adapters for pretty much any stroller that doesn’t require proprietary seats, so for example I can use the Liing on my Uppababy stroller, which accommodates 3 kids. I highly recommend safeintheseat on Instagram (or other social media) for seat guidance! Of course, it’s totally true that all seats pass rigorous safety standards to be sold, so the seat that fits your car/child/lifestyle best is the right seat!
Thread: "how good is Graco 4Ever DLX Grad car seat? or would you recommend us something else? my baby is 6 months old almost 7"
Second this, my 3yo is off the charts height wise and we’re about to turn around the rava in my car (he wears a back brace and it prevents him from crossing his legs like most kids). We have the foonf in my husbands and we can easily get another year of rear facing in it for him.
Thread: "how good is Graco 4Ever DLX Grad car seat? or would you recommend us something else? my baby is 6 months old almost 7"
Rava has some nice quality of life features and goes on sale every so often. We have a few, I personally prefer the clek foonf because you can fit someone in the middle with 2 on the outside. While not super comfortable it’s actually doable unlike the ravas
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
I know this comment is a month old, but FWIW the US version of Foonf has a rear facing weight limit of 50lb and the Canadian version has a limit of 40lb. It's listed on their American and Canadian site.
Thread: "Stuck overthinking car seats"
The Rava is an amazing seat and like 10x easier to get a tight install than the Clek!
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
Yup, we actually went from the Foonf to the Rava for those very reasons. We are both engineeers and nothing about the Foonf made sense
Thread: "Which car seats can you fit 3 across in the Atlas?"
Britax Poplar is a good option that's super easy to install and uninstall. Otherwise Graco slimfit 3 lx, clek models as well. But the Britax click tight method sold me.
Thread: "Car seat advice - I'm overwhelmed"
If you won’t be using the car seat much, just get a convertible car seat like Nuna Rava or Clek Foonf. It’s really not worth it to invest in an infant car seat for just a few trips.
Thread: "Safest convertible car seat for baby?"
Double check with a CPST if your van actually allows 3 across - they usually have seat belt overlap and the middle seat/ passenger would interfere with the rebound/excursion space of the outbound seats. It might be ok on your model but thought I’d just suggest the experts in case :)
Thread: "Two carseats and a booster seat in the back of a compact car?"
So, same. You are not alone and you’re in the freak out logistical moment of trying to digest this information. My only advice (that helped us) is to believe that you can do it. Our first was 3.5 when we found out that we were having twins. It took us forever to even decide to have another child and we ended up with twins. We were also completely shocked. The babies are 6 months old right now. Our SUV barely fits the two bucket seats and our firsts car seat. We have a second car that definitely does not fit all three car seats. We will likely just get a minivan eventually. I’m on maternity leave right now (Canada). I barely leave the house so the car seat thing isn’t a big deal right now. But look at specs online for width of car seats. We have the Clek Foonf. It is actually shorter in width than their booster so we won’t switch until needed. Our bucket seats are one of the slimmest on the market. Aside from all of this, make some memories with your first. Things will be more difficult once the babies are here. We took weekend trips to the big city. We made a “big boy” room for him that was special. My husband and I took turns bringing him places so the other could have time alone in the house. Take time to declutter your house and figure out what you can streamline. Look at the experience with your first and think double. I did small things like purge every sleeper that wasn’t double zip. We still live in sleepers. I could go on. You are entering a different world and club that you never knew existed. I have been so thankful for this subreddit. I’ve learned so much and have had so much support.
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
We have both the Clek Foonf and Fllo and we love it. Fllo can be used rear facing until 50 lbs. and is within. 43 inches tall. Foonf can be used rear facing up to 40 lbs. and within 43 inches tall. I would recommend the Fllo, it’s cheaper and can be used for longer rear facing. Our 4 year old is still rear facing and using a Fllo car seat for reference :)

Second vote for Clek. Love our Foonf!
Thread: "Are Maxi Cosi and Nuna Car Seats Worth the Money? [MB]"
It's on the website: https://clekinc.com/pages/the-differences-between-foonf-and-fllo The main differences are the Foonf's LATCH system and rear-facing base versus the Fllo's lighter weight and built-in recline foot. The Foonf has a more advanced safety system with the rigid LATCH, making it easier to install forward-facing with LATCH, while the Fllo has a lower rear-facing weight limit of 50 lbs compared to the Foonf's 40 lbs. The Fllo is also slightly lighter and sits lower in the vehicle.
Thread: "Opinions on Clek infant carseat?"
I LOVED my Liing and rave about it (best baby purchase we made -- we got T-boned in a car accident *on baby side of the car* and baby was 100% fine!!! Nightmare story but I have to share it here of course), but I opted not to get the Foonf when baby got bigger (Liing maxes out at 30 pounds), for two reasons: 1. Foonf is comparatively VERY heavy (more than 3x the weight of the Liing), so using it for non-car travel (airplanes, etc) is not a realistic option, and 2. to my surprise it scored lower than other convertible car seat competitors like the Graco Extend2Fit, which is half the price (Foonf makes you pay $500+ AND then pay for cup holders?), and 1/3 lighter weight than Foonf (but still \~2x the weight of Liing for comparison) BUT the Foonf looks great and it's awesome how narrow it is, especially if you need the space, and despite it getting a lower safety rating than Graco Extend2Fit, there's no reason at all to think it's unsafe.
Thread: "What car seats are we using?"
Unfortunately, it sounds like your baby is outgrowing the infant seat. You should switch to a convertible. We have Cleks—Foonfs and Fllos. They are great.
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
He is 2.5 and is still rear facing. We seems pretty content (minus the car sickness) backward facing so we plan to keep him that way at least until he’s three, but maybe longe so we will likely want a second backward facing option for the baby.

meh. Clek Foonf is by far better
Thread: "Clek Floof, Nuna Rava and Britax One4Life"
My continued concern with the all-in-one style carseats like the Britax One4Life is that they try to do everything and cannot do everything WELL. Chances are good that they are better suited to kids on the smaller side as they cannot necessarily adjust big enough in belt-positioning booster mode to fit ALL kids. Just upgraded our 9-week-old to a Clek Foonf with Infant Thingy, and then ordered another Foonf for our almost-16-month-old. We love how they install, how they fit in our vehicle (the extra base piece in rear-facing mode puts the seats quite a bit higher and my partner can put the drivers seat all the way back for his comfort), and how much better they seem to work for our above-average sized kiddos. Can’t wait until the second one arrives next week and see how the toddler reacts to it!

Never again. Not machine washable, super heavy and a complicated (relative to other seats) install.

I’ve used both and the foonf is great but so freaking heavy. I would not recommend if you will be moving it back and forth with any regularity. Very nice seat, not super comfy looking but I never had any complaints.
Thread: "car seat decision"
They’re both incredibly safe. I have the britax and it’s the easiest install I’ve ever experienced (and I have gone through a lot of seats) however the foonf is easy too and slim enough for three across seating if you have more than one kid or want an adult to sit in the back.
Thread: "Struggling to pick a convertible car seat - worth it to spend more or less?"
I second this. I love my clek. I just wish they made more fun coloured seats with black frames. We do a lot of driving and safety is too priority. Also with a potty training 2yr old the easy clean seats make my life so much easier.
Thread: "Struggling to pick a convertible car seat - worth it to spend more or less?"
Adding more Clek love. We have a Foonf in my vehicle since it’s our main car, and a Graco in my husband’s just in case. While ALL car seats have to meet Canada’s stringent safety standards, I can say my toddler gets SO HOT in his Graco car seat whereas he seems absolutely fine in his Foonf (merino wool). The material in the Graco is not very breathable. Something we totally didn’t consider, but it makes me so much happier with our Foonf. He’s comfortable and safe. Both are new cars, AC is running, but you pull him out of the car seat and his back is always hot or even sweaty from the Graco whereas he seems perfectly normal coming out of the Foonf.
Thread: "Clek Foonf vs Fllo HELP!"
Installation was slower first time around than the next. And fairly fast the last time (have installed it 3 times due to having to remove it to transport stuff). Last time took about 4 mins probably. First time was like 30 mins cuz I was being very particular and fiddling with the latch strap. The hard part is just getting the latch tight, and I just couldn’t pull tightly enough and I’m not necessarily weak. The seatbelt snap latches work best. They’re really easy to use. I could probably do it again in like 2 mins next time. Honestly I do also do the latches just as a fail safe but I might just roll them back up next time to keep the installation clean. I did have to use the rolled towel suggestion (in the installation manual) to get it to the correct base angle until 22 lbs. she’s currently like 20.5 lbs so a couple more months and we’ll remove the towel. Not a big deal and still super stiff installation with the towel underneath. Overall we like it a lot. Baby just sits there pretty content when we buckle her in and doesn’t fight like she used to in the infant car seat. We haven’t had a problem with the front seats but we’re like 5’4 and 5’6. We have about 4-5 inches before the passenger/wife’s seat hits the foonf, and she sets it for a good amount of leg room. (We have a 2016 accord)
Thread: "Clek Foonf Car Seat"
I actually love the Clek Foonf Seats! I'm usually the one doing the car seat installs in both my vehicle and my Wife's. My Wife has two Diono Radian XT's in her car, I have two Celk Foonf seats in my Truck. Having installed both brands, taken both brands completely apart to run through the washing machine, the Foonf Seats are 100% much better made. And I prefer how they install over the Diono as well. They just feel like such a solid seat to me. No complaints from the kids yet! I've had to watch a few youtube videos to really learn how to take the seats apart, but like anything once you got it it's easy.

Thread: "[ON] Infant Car Seat or Straight to Convertible?"
Some pros and cons to each! The bucket seat is convenient to get baby ready and buckled inside during winter. I know a lot of people like being able to click on to the stroller too but my kids all preferred the bassinet so we didn't do that too much. Honestly we didn't go many places by car for the first few months but we walked quite a bit! Depends how big your baby is, but I found by about 4-5 months it was too heavy to carry them in the bucket seat anyway. So we started just leaving the seat in the car and putting them straight in stroller or carrier. When they could sit up by themselves, they started hating the bucket seat and they were much happier in the convertible. I think because they could sit more upright and look outside too which kept them entertained vs the bucket seat, they are more scrunched up I find lol We have clek foonf and fllo and would definitely recommend for the convertible 👍

Thread: "Infant car seat vs. all in one car seat"
I suspect your kids are less gross than mine. 🤣 But yes, it boils down to personal preference. I do extended rear facing too but my daughter could have rear faced to 5+ in a Contender. She had a seat with a 40” 40# rear facing limit and she hit 40” at 4.5 years old and that’s when we turned her. I definitely could have put her in an Extend2Fit at that point but at 4.5 that felt like overkill. On the other hand, if the E2F had been available back then my next older daughter would have had one - I *almost* bought her a newly released Foonf when she outgrew her Radian at 45 pounds and 3.5 years old, which was the highest RF capacity on the market at the time I bought it, but she wouldn’t have had enough growing room left to justify the price tag, so I put the money into a Britax Frontier instead. Reality is there isn’t one right solution for everyone. For me, it generally doesn’t make sense to buy a rear facing seat with the thought of using it as a booster later. I want the booster I want and don’t want to be limited by what can also rear face - especially since it isn’t really a financial savings. But enough people feel differently about that to make all in ones very successful in the market.
Thread: "Should I get an infant car seat? "
I’m the same way with relying on others! We didn’t have a shower at all. And okay, I think I should take this advice to get it. The thing is too we may as well buy now I guess since we have a baby now too and it is winter here too, so we can enjoy using it now as well, I just don’t want to store it but that’s okay, I guess I can do that. I cannot remember where I got stroller, I did do that strategy with points so I can see if i can do that, im also totally okay with the dillards version. And I’ve looked, the pipa never goes on sale :(. Nice to hear you guys also prioritize just getting what you want for the baby. I’m super picky about things for baby and only want the best, and we’re not rich, so I have to be strategic!! We went with the nuna and foonf to avoid chemicals in fabric of car seat. Luckily my husband is totally on board with getting whatever I want within reason.

I second the Clek Foonf, we have one for our 3 year old and will be getting another for our second when they grow out of the infant carrier.
