- Zip-off cover makes cleaning a breeze
- Easy to adjust straps for growing children
Cons (−)
- Can be bulky, challenging for smaller vehicles
- Straps may be difficult to adjust for some parents
- Higher price point compared to budget options
Why parents like it
Parents appreciate the high safety ratings and the ease of adjusting the straps as their child grows. The zip-off cover is a standout feature, making it simple to keep the seat clean.
Common complaints
While most parents are satisfied, a few note that the size of the seat can make it challenging to fit in smaller cars. Additionally, some find the straps difficult to adjust, which can be frustrating during transitions.
Parents who prioritize safety and ease of cleaning in a convertible car seat. Be prepared for a larger footprint that may not fit well in compact cars.
The Chicco NextFit Max is a reliable car seat that balances safety and convenience, though its size may not suit all vehicles.

Chicco fit 360 rotating or any rotating car seat.

Chicco nextfit ZIP! I have loved being able to zip on and off the cover to wash. Easy peezy clean up. I will always recommend this seat.
Thread: "Putting toddler in car seat on the plane"
If you don’t have a car seat, you have no way of strapping your kid down. That lap belt isn’t keeping a mildly curious toddler contained in any way. We’ve had flights where the car seat is a source of misery and flights where not having a car seat was torture. There’s just no good option, but I can say that a screaming kid strapped into their car seat is preferable to a kid screaming in my ear while I try to keep them in their seat. Also- the cosco scenera sucks. It’s weirdly wide and it’s not comfortable to sit next to. Our best flights have been with a chicco nextfit (30 pounds) and a car seat dolly. A bit more cumbersome to lift in and out of the airline seats, but every other part of traveling is easier. Hope your future flights are comfy and stress free for everyone!
Thread: "Best rotating rear-facing car seat for TALL baby?"
We love the Chicco 360! Kiddo is currently 15m and 34 inches tall
Thread: "Time for a toddler car seat--I'm so lost"
If she’s hit the weight limit, I think it’s time to switch as soon as possible. Basically any toddler seat is going to live in the car perpetually. No more bases; the seat is just one piece that you install in the car. You will want to buy two if you have two cars. Does your stroller have just a regular seat? She doesn’t need to be in a car seat in the stroller. I got the Chicco nextfit max zip because it was highly rated on consumer reports. It doesn’t swivel but it’s still pretty easy to put the baby in. There’s a good deal on the site I got it from: https://www.albeebaby.com/chicco-nextfit-max-zip-air-convertible-car-seat-atmosphere.html
Thread: "Why are some not rear-facing the car seat until 40 lbs?"
No idea. We are also the last ones by far to still rear face at 2y9m even though my kid is a head taller than all the others from our friend group. His legs are looong (he’s 40in) but he’s totally fine, just sits with crossed legs, it’s never been an issue for him. As to easier to get them in the seat - my kid has climbed up and into his seat on his own since he could walk, no need to lift them 🤷♀️ We have the chicco nextfit and at the rate he’s growing I am fairly sure he’ll outgrow rear facing for height (43in) before weight (40lbs). We’ll see how old he is when he hits the max and then I’ll see if I want to get him another rear facing seat or just flip him. I’d like to make it to four but… we’ll see how it goes. It’s rare I take other kids with me, but when I do, and they are within the limits of their seat for rear facing, that’s how they sit in my car, even if they usually front face.

Chicco Next Fit Zip. Hands down. High safety ratings, 40lb/43" rear facing limits, easy to install, extremely easy to adjust to appropriate strap heights, seriously a fool-proof long term car seat. It's a little on the expensive side, but I have found deals at places like Walmart and target on 1 color at a time. (For example the black or grey will be $100 off from time to time). My favorite favorite parts are the safety ratings and how easy they are to clean though. Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
I cannot. Believe. How far I had to scroll to get to this. We have this for our older and a Graco for our younger and I prefer the Chicco so much that I’m almost considering ditching the Graco in favor of a second Chicco.
Thread: "Nuna Rava or Chicco NextFit Max?"
I know I’m replying to an old thread but wanted to leave my experience for anyone searching nowadays on the difference. We have both, one in each car. Hands down, it is much easier to get my kid in and out of the NextFit. The way that you can’t really loosen the Rava straps without moving the headrest make it a really tight fit for even a slim babe with a jacket on. We really regret paying for a premium seat that is such a pain in the ass to get him in/out of. For reference, my kid is 54th percentile for weight but 90th percentile for height. He’s not a chubby baby. But if our second kid ends up chubby, the Rava will not work well. The strap holders seem less like a neat design and more like a necessity because of the strap tightness. Add in the defect that the straps don’t stay locked if your kid eats in the seat, we feel like we bought a lemon Mercedes for a car seat. We haven’t let him eat in it and make sure he’s sand free before he gets in so it doesn’t cause the lock to malfunction like other owners have done.
Thread: "Clek Fllo vs Graco 4ever vs Diono Radian 3 RXT - does anyone have feedback from using these car seats or seeing them in store?"
My parents have a Graco 4ever that we use when we visit and I hate it. It’s not easy to get a good fit in the car or on my child. It just doesn’t seem safe with how difficult it is to get a correct fit. We have the Chicco Nextfit, and I like it, but don’t love it. My parents second seat is the Britax Click Tight and I LOVE that seat. It’s what we will get when we need a second seat.
Thread: "Car seats - you get what you pay for?"
So I am a consumer reports member and went with Chicco for first car seat and now the nexfit. They have great ratings for everything - ease of use and comfort but most important to me was safest. On the tests the Chiccos are the safest and for me that’s enough to spend the extra. Maybe I’m a sucker but I don’t care - I don’t want to ever be in a position where I regret or wonder if I went too cheap on a car seat.
Thread: "Can’t find Chicco NextFit Zip to buy online?"
It sounds like his current seat is not reclined properly, that’s what supports baby’s head in a car seat. As a CPST I regularly work at community events and install program seats. They don’t have as many convenience features to make the install and fit adjustment as easy, but I often find they fit small babies and support their heads better than the expensive seats. I’d suggest snapping some pics of the install and fit to have it checked. Even if you definitely want another seat, then you’d have two. I forgot to ask age/weight/height? And do you have a price range?
Thread: "what’s your favorite rotating car seat?"
We love this one! It's also very easy to transfer between vehicles.
Thread: "Indecision about Convertible Car Seats"
It’s a nice seat overall and would work well in a SUV. My only other complaint about the seat is that the sides of the seat come up fairly high which make getting bigger babies in and out tough. We used it for almost 4 years with our first kid so it was manageable, just frustrating at certain periods. My daughter never complained about comfort or anything.
Thread: "Car seat recommendations? "
I will second Chicco! We have the OneFit, but have also used a NextFit. Chicco is heavy, but tired parent proof. We don't fly often, so safety and comfort were our top priorities. FWIW, our 13 month old is in the 98th percentiles and as comfy as can be!
Thread: "Anyone else struggle with the Chicco NextFit Max ClearTex convertible car seat?"
Definitely call up Chicco customer service to see if you got a lemon! I have this car seat for my toddler and I love it so much I got another one for my second baby (not yet debuted).
Thread: "Anyone else struggle with the Chicco NextFit Max ClearTex convertible car seat?"
I am pretty sure we have this car seat and I also find the straps hard to adjust, but not impossible. I know you have to push the button but I feel like pushing and then pulling the straps doesn’t work every time. I have 3 convertible seats (grandparents) and all of the are the same way so I just assumed it was a safety feature of some sort. Or maybe I am also not understanding how it is supposed to work?
Thread: "Anyone else struggle with the Chicco NextFit Max ClearTex convertible car seat?"
We have this car seat and had this issue in the beginning. I almost got rid of the thing. My husband managed to fix it by pulling up the cover near the adjustment strap and he did some pulling and readjusting under there and it's been great ever since. Super easy to loosen up. I'm sorry I don't have much info on what he did. I just responded to let you know you're not alone!
Thread: "Anyone else struggle with the Chicco NextFit Max ClearTex convertible car seat?"
Call chicco. They have good customer service. They can give you tips or tell you if it’s defective.
Thread: "Those who have children and have a NX, do you regret it?"
We bought a NX when my wife was pregnant. When our daughter was born it did the job, but you could tell it gets a little tight. We also have three dogs, so that didn’t help. We ended up going back to a third row car. But for just one kiddo, I think it does the job. We got a roof box and roof rack which made it roomier on longer trips.
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
I have this one. Kid is 3 and we just turned it forward facing. It's great!
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
I have the Zip version and love it. We did just get the Chico 360 seat and it's pretty amazing. Does have lower limits, but our kiddos aren't huge.
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
I absolutely loathe the Graco. LOATHE. I regret ever buying it. So I will always tell people not to, lol. We have two kiddos rear facing, which means we have four car seats. The Chicco Onefit is the all around winner. Reasonably priced, easy to install and use, rear faces to 43 inches/40 pounds which gets even 90%+ kiddos to 4ish, and allows for extended harnessing while forward facing, then turns into a high back booster. A weird quirk with the Graco is that the forward facing and rear facing heights are the same, so if you max it out, you either need another harnessed seat or you have to put them directly in a booster. We also have the Britax Marathon (also love, so compact and easy to use) and the Chicco Nextfit Max (great seat, but it’s the same price as the Onefit and doesn’t last as long). I drive a tiny crossover, am 5’10, and all these seats fit in just fine.
Thread: "Best car seat for a tall baby"
We’ve had my son in a Chicco Nextfit Zip convertible seat for ages, he’s always been huge. He’s 16 months now and 30 pounds/35 inches. His feet already brush the seatback a little but he’s not uncomfortable. Rear-facing mode height limit goes up to 43 inches tall, so we’ve got some time! I’m sorry I can’t help you with the being petite thing, I’m 5’8”.
Thread: "Who else is still rear-facing?"
Commiserating about the tall kid issue. No one mentions maxing out your infant seat at 6 months or maxed out rear facing at 2.5. My son is on his 4th car seat (Chicco next fit) to accommodate him. He’s long waisted so he outgrew convertible seats at 44” instead of 49” which is annoying haha. Luckily little sister is there to get the gently used hand me downs! Now she’s wants a Chicco Next Fit because she likes the arm rests 😂
Thread: "Car seat choices: infant vs convertible?"
I tried to skip the infant seat and I ended up buying one after like a month and a half.. it just nice to have for taking baby to appointments and I found it much easier to maneuver if I want to take baby to run errands by myself. Taking the whole stroller and loading and unloading it is harder than clicking the infant seat into a travel system. I don’t have to fiddle with as many things and it makes me more confident on my own. The convertible one we got is chicco next fit max which is great but huge. And we got an uppababy Mesa to go with our stroller.
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
Yep same, I can’t believe I don’t see more love for this seat. It’s so comfy for him, a solid and secure install and seat, and so easy to clean.
Thread: "Car Seats - Anyone Regret?"
Currently have a pretty big rear facing seat (Chicco nextfit max) behind the driver seat and still have plenty of room! We also have a clek liing rear facing as well and no issues. This is an R1T ymmv but should be pretty similar.
Thread: "Please just tell me what car seat to buy"
I’ll go against a crowd favorite here.. I got a Graco extend to fit cause it came recommended a lot and had one of the highest safety ratings. The two cup holders are nice and so are the pockets that keep the straps open when not in use so it’s easier to get your kid in… but I found this seat much harder to get tight in the seat if you’re using the latch system and we also have trouble tightening the shoulder straps once our kid is in. Maybe it’s user error.. but because I didn’t like it, we got something different for our second car, a Chicco Nexfit, and I prefer that one much more. Was super easy to get super tight to the seat using latch and I find the straps much easier to tighten and loosen around my kid. Downsides are there’s only 1 cup holder and it’s not attached well and it doesn’t have the pocket holes for the straps so once you put your kid in you often have to dig from under your kid to pull the straps around them. I’ll add our kid has never had accidents in the car and he doesn’t eat in it, so we have yet to take the cover off either to clean..
Thread: "What car seat are you getting?"
Chicco Nextfit Zip. Convertible car seat to save $, fits 3 across in a van, and works great for all three kids. The zip part is also great for clean ups. Highly rated on Consumer Reports, too. We are in the upper Midwest and had 0 issues skipping the "bucket seat" some folks get in order to bundle baby before bringing them to the car in the winter.
Thread: "Did you feel like your baby outgrew their infant seat before hitting the manuals listed height/weight requirement?"
Yep had to switch to the convertible seat around 6.5 months. I got a Chicco and love it. It's supersized for my very tall 2.5 year old. She's 40inches tall already and fits in it comfortable.
Thread: "Car seat research - What have you found to be the best options?"
>both of which can be adjusted as the little one grows. It sounds like you want a convertible car seat mixed with a travel system and that doesn't really exist yet. The closest i know of is [this](https://jet.com/product/7d8438e3ccbf4fedae66786186fcf083?jcmp=pla--ggl--baby_toddler_other--baby_transport_baby_toddler_car_seats_other--.--.--.--.--.--2&code=PLA15&k_clickid=c49ac0e1-4b68-46b2-abd9-4affe1fedaae&kpid=7d8438e3ccbf4fedae66786186fcf083&gclid=Cj0KEQjwmNuuBRDTu5rDjr2kxJsBEiQAWlm6Uq9lW3Nq7uC9If_cHv3uhumkI6YEbZQWOORg15DFrREaAjUH8P8HAQ) which doesn't have a base, and the stroller part is built in and doesn't seem great for any terrain but super flat surfaces. Otherwise i suggest the [chico nextfit](http://www.chiccousa.com/nextfit/) convertible car seat or a travel system that meets your needs for the first year and a bigger car seat later
Thread: "Should I buy a new car seat for the plane?"
We normally would bring a 13mo as a lap child to save the cost of a seat. We have flown well over a dozen times across the country with a lap child, so it is doable. Bring snacks, books, activities. But if you already have an extra plane seat reserved or the money for one, putting the child in a car seat in their own seat is a step up in comfort and ease - provided the child does not hate car seats. (We haven’t done that for a one year old, but we do that for 2 year olds.) Definitely bring a big stroller to gate check to use for the car seat - you don’t want to carry a car seat by hand through the airport. Any car seat labeled as approved for air travel can be used (look for a label on a side - the gate attendants will look for it). Ours is pretty bulky, but it works fine. Based on an internet search, the Chicco Nextfit Zip can be taken on an airplane.

I purchased it directly from Chicco. Recently learned this version of the Nextfit was retired so no longer available.

Thread: "Car seat research - What have you found to be the best options?"
I have a Chicco Keyfit 30 that we used for our first and loved it!! The base is easy to install it's easy to get a tight fit for the kiddo in the seat. It fit in my smaller sub without making the front passenger seat unuseable. It was also easy to clean! We got the Chicco nextfit when my little girl outgrew the infant seat and used the nextfit for extended refacing and are just now using it forward facing. Both are excellently made and had the best safety ratings. Both are easy to install and use on a daily basis. Hope that helps!
Thread: "Nuna Rava or Chicco NextFit Max?"
We used the chicco nextfit zip (only difference seems to be weight limit for rear facing from the max. I wish they had had the max at the time!) for years. We loved it. Never really had a problem getting our child in and out, though I'd say after a couple years the straps didn't move as well as when they were new. We only noticed because we ended up with replacing both seats we had with the same models because people kept crashing into our car (seriously... Like 3 not our fault at all accidents), so insurance replaced them. We did end up recently replacing them with the chicco myfit (converts to booster) because it was a little hard to buckle and unbuckle our oldest super fast and have her climb out on her own in the school drop off line. But under normal time limits when a line of impatient parents aren't waiting behind you, I didn't find it hard to do! If you ever travel though, buy a cheaper light weight seat for travel. The nextfit is super heavy! Makes it easy to install (my husband has said all the chicco ones are really easy to install), but you don't want to carry it thru the airport!
Thread: "Another convertible car seat question!"
We used the Chicco nextfit seats when our twins were small/ just out of bucket seats. They were definitely compact front to back, easy to install and easy to adjust. When we turned to forward facing we switched to the Dionos because we needed 3 across; I like the Diono much better in forward facing, and we always install with the seat belt.
Thread: "what’s your favorite rotating car seat?"
I love this car seat, so convenient and it is rock solid once it’s locked in place.
Thread: "Evenflo rotating car seat "
NOPE. As mentioned in my previous post, the amount of wobble was concerning for me and unnerving for my partner. We ended up returning the Evenflo within a week of purchasing it. We tried the Chicco Fit360 next and both absolutely love it. Even lazily installed, it feels secure with near zero wobble. Rotating the seat is just as simple as other brands. I personally like the chest clasp as it's attracts magnetically yet is secure and easy for adults to open yet my little one has yet to figure it out. My only gripe early on was that as my little one grew, he seemed too tall and uncomfortable. But then realized it was well past time to turn him around and allow him to face forward. So that gripe was quickly resolved. So yeah, we're both totally happy, my only advice would be to look for coupon codes and rebate programs to get the price a tad bit lower and more comparable to the Evenflo.
Thread: "Car seats for small cars"
I know my Chicco Nextfit (0-10 years) is smaller that the chicco keyfit 30 (we used until 25 lbs/18 mo)) Smaller as it in uses less leg room. It is taller and bigger in general and does not come out of the car like the Keyfit.
Thread: "Toddler car seat recommendations"
We bought the Chicco Nextfit Max Zip Air (a mouthful, I know) for our car and the Graco Turn2Me for the grandparents’. The Graco is a rotating car seat, which is meant to make it easier to get the child in and out of the car. That feature is fantastic but otherwise I prefer the Chicco much more. The Chicco Nextfit seats are a breeze to install. They have a Super Cinch feature that makes it so easy to get the car seat locked down properly to the car’s LATCH system. While I think Graco seats tend to do a little better than most other brands in crash tests, the Turn2Me is exceedingly difficult to lock down to the point where there’s no wobble. I have jammed fingers and broken a sweat every single time I’ve had to reinstall that seat. It’s just not worth it to me. The Chicco also wins in terms of easy cleaning. The Zip models have a zip-off cover that can be removed and thrown in the washing machine in the event of a blowout, leaky diaper or a major food spill. It’s so easy compared to other seats and I also think Chicco uses much nicer-feeling upholsteries than other comparably-priced brands. The “Max” in the naming convention for our seat refers to the size. There’s a slightly smaller version (don’t quote me but I want to say 2 inches) in case you have a smaller car, but the Max is meant to allow the child a little more space to remain rear-facing longer. Highly endorse that seat. The Turn2Me might be a nice option if you plan to install it in one car and would rarely need to take it out to haul cargo or switch vehicles. The rotating feature really does make it much easier to get the child in and out, but for somebody young, I don’t think that warrants the hassle of installing the seat. It does, however, convert to a high back booster, which our Chicco does not. That said, booster seats aren’t particularly expensive once your child gets to that stage.
