Bugaboo Dragonfly

The Bugaboo Dragonfly is a compact stroller designed for urban environments, featuring a one-hand fold and compatibility with a bassinet. It offers a lightweight design with decent storage space, making it suitable for parents on the go.

Pros (+)

  • Lightweight and easy to maneuver in tight spaces
  • Convenient one-hand fold for quick storage
  • Good storage capacity for a compact stroller

Cons (−)

  • Durability issues reported by some parents
  • Struggles on uneven surfaces like gravel
  • Higher price point compared to similar models

Why parents like it

The Dragonfly is praised for its lightweight design and smooth maneuverability, making it ideal for navigating city streets. Parents also appreciate the one-hand fold feature, which is convenient for on-the-go use.

Common complaints

Some parents report issues with the stroller's durability, mentioning that it broke after a few months of use. Others find it struggles on uneven surfaces, like gravel, which detracts from its urban stroller claims.

Best for

Parents looking for a lightweight stroller that excels in urban settings. However, you may need to consider its performance on rougher terrain.

Bottom line

The Bugaboo Dragonfly is a great urban stroller for those needing compactness and ease of use, but be cautious about potential durability issues.

I've got the bugaboo dragonfly and love it for all those reasons. The folding is super helpful for storing in tight spaces and the pram is lightweight but feels robust.

I don’t have experience with the Cybex but we have the Bugaboo Fox 5 and we love it. Based on what you’re describing I’d consider the Bugaboo Dragonfly! If you are near a big department store like Nordstrom, maybe try to pop in and test them out!

I have a redsbaby nuvo but I have twins and so I needed a double pram from the get go. The nuvo is great and I really like it but if I was just having a singleton I would genuinely go for like a travel pram. The redsbaby skip 3 looks really good because it has an actual bassinet attachment as well as the regular seat. I've also heard good things about the bugaboo butterfly and dragonfly. If you're planning on a second baby in close succession to your first you might want a pram that can be a double though which might rule out a lot of the more compact prams.

Thread: "Bugaboo Dragonfly vs Uppababy Cruz v2"

I don’t think the Cruz is in the same category, it’s not an easy fold or lightweight by any means. I looked at the dragonfly and the salesperson at the store actually talked me out of it. The folding mechanism is a bit weird. I ended up going with the Nuna Triv Next, which is super easy to use. I saw they have another model now, the Swiv, which can move sideways and looks like it stands on its own. But if I had to carry a stroller up 4 flight of stairs I would go with something like a Minu or Joolz Aer that’s way more lightweight. Try to go to a store where you can test them out in person. Albee Baby on the UWS is great!

I was looking for a stroller this time last year and was debating between the Minu v2 and the Dragonfly. I ended up going with the Minu because the Dragonfly had only just been released a few weeks prior and I didn’t want to make such a large purchase without enough time in market.

Thread: "Good city strollers?"

Our daily driver with my six month old is a uppababy Cruz. There’s a reason that uppababy has the chokehold it does on DC, they’re amazing. At first I did struggle with the size/weight but as baby gets bigger and as our trips around the city get longer, I’ve really come to appreciate why it’s worth it. If space permits at all, though, it can be really nice to have something smaller/lighter for different situations - we keep a Chicco caddy in our car for short trips with the chicco car seat (we’ve also used that one for plane travel in the past) and we recently added a bugaboo butterfly for future trips that involve more walking. That said, if I could go back, I’d seriously look at the bugaboo dragonfly as a good marriage between a travel stroller and a full size. The fold is AMAZING. It was a bit out of my budget at the time (I got the uppababy on a Black Friday deal too good to pass up) but I keep trying it when I see it in stores because it’s just so good. European strollers in general seem to be a bit better tailored to the stairs-and-walking city life than the more car-oriented American market.

Ive used my friends dragonfly and its size is in between a Cruz and butterfly (which we have one of each) If your apartment had an elevator then I'll def recommend a Cruz for grocery /neighborhood walk since it's newborn compatible. If you don't plan to use the stroller much the first 6 months, then get the butterfly since you can use it only after 6th month and use a baby carrier the first 6 months. If you really just want one stroller , then it's the yoyo with newborn bassinet.

I also want a lightweight, travel-friendly stroller for the city and am waiting for the updated Uppababy Minu v3 to drop in early 2025 to compare with Nuna Trvl Lx, Bugaboo Dragonfly, etc. I have friends who really like their Doona, but I read that it’s not approved for sale in Canada because it didn’t pass their safety tests and generally isn’t rated as high on safety compared to other car seat brands so leaning towards a Nuna car seat that can go baseless.

We have the dragonfly and really love it! It folds with the bassinet which is handy, has a carrying strap for over the shoulder, and has a decent amount of storage space for a smaller stroller. Oh and the seat is super easy to change between forward facing and rear facing which is an unforeseen handy feature in the summer with the sun! All in all we really like it and always say it was one of our best baby purchases.

We got the bugaboo dragonfly and loving it!! Living in a really rural area and had no issues so far getting it up and down hills, through little paths (with sticks, leaves and dirt) and it’s really light so easy to carry for short distances even if you have to. Folds in like 3 seconds too so you wouldn’t have an issue with it in London. They can also use it until they’re around 4 years old so it’s pretty good value for money. I also used to live in London so got friends there and I know some people who also got it and like it. So that’s my vote but I can’t speak on the other two.

We live in a city and had this same debate. Ultimately, we went with the Dragonfly and have loved it. It’s so easy to fold while holding the baby (took a little practice, but it’s a breeze now). It’s light enough to carry up and down our half flight and it folds up really narrow. What we have loved most is how easy it is to take out to restaurants and the grocery store. It being so narrow makes moving around so easy! It is harder to push around in things like snow, but overall I wouldn’t go back and change our decision as lugging around a bigger stroller would be more inconvenient more often than the smooth ride would be nice.

We have the dragonfly. Our baby is only 5 weeks old, but we love it. You said this isn’t important to you, but it’s very light and easy to load in and out of the car. In my opinion, the dragonfly feels solid and is very easy to maneuver. I chose it because we wanted a full size stroller with good storage, but not something quite so heavy or awkward (all our friends have the uppababy). We live in a hilly area and haven’t had any moments of concern. A bonus for us is that the stroller is incredibly easy to maneuver and store when folded. It’s very flat, stands on its own, and can be wheeled around instead of carried.

I use the dragonfly as my daily - that’s the one that lives unfolded in the hallway because it gets enough use to justify the floor space haha. I really don’t like the yoyo very much, so only use it for big outings. Once a week at most. My kids are 15 months and 4.5 years old for reference! The big one is pretty lazy though so she loves having a ride on board (which we do for both strollers)

Are you able to go to a store to test it out in person? I thought the Dragonfly was super cool and loved it in theory when I saw reviews on youtube. When I went to test it out in person, the frame still felt a bit wobbly and the fold was just kinda awkward. I think I googled Dragonfly near me and found a local boutique baby store that had a selection of strollers. Maybe try to see if you can find something near you? I have the Uppababy Cruz v2 and love it! Feels super sturdy and great for walking. The basket is SO BIG and I tend to overpack so it’s nice to have a large basket to dump things in.

Thread: "Strollers - what did you wish you knew before you bought?"

We are happy with what we got. We have the bugaboo dragonfly. It's expensive but it's exactly what we wanted. It's narrow (narrower than it looks actually) so we can fit almost anywhere which is important cause we have narrow sidewalks that are often full of parked bikes. It has decent suspension which is good for the worse sidewalks here. It folds up for storing easily (I can do it with one hand). The push bar is very adjustable, so can be made short for elevators or tight spaces or very long and tall for my husband. And it pushes super easily, even with one hand, so easy to use even with the dog. The downside is that it is super heavy and doesn't fold all that small. So we don't usually bring it when we go anywhere by car. Instead we just got a second hand yoyo which we will use for this purpose and for when we travel by plane. YouTube was a useful resource to help us figure out what we were looking for in a stroller and once we knew, 20 min in the store trying different strollers and asking the sales agent questions settled it for us. For what it's worth it really was by far the most time I spent researching a purchase.

They really are worth it, if you find a model that works for you! I’d encourage you to think about what your days are most likely to look like. I live in a very outdoorsy area but would prefer a carrier over a jogging stroller because I don’t run, just meander through the park and trail. The cameleon did great in parks and the newborn bassinet was helpful, but once baby could sit up they wanted to see and be seen. But again, I’m not going hard on the outdoors! In my case, I had a hard carrier and a soft carrier. I had the ergonomic omni 360 and that was really really nice and structured, for outdoors and long wear, and a softer carrier for using inside one baby was a newborn.

I’ve only purchased it but haven’t used it with our baby yet since he’s due in Oct. but I did research a ton and was torn between a few strollers; the Cruz, bugaboo fox, bugaboo dragonfly, and my wife liked the Nuna swiv. We live in the suburbs and go on a lot of walks so we wanted something that we could comfortably do that with. Plus I think bugaboo makes the nicest looking strollers. If you’re like us and plan to use the bugaboo as a trav system with a car seat for the first 6-12 months, you’ll only need to take the frame with you when in the car. The frame is pretty small when the stroller seat is detached. We originally thought it was too large as well until we pushed it around the store and my wife really liked it. Plus we’re both tall and the height worked well for us. If I didn’t get that, I would have gotten an uppababy Cruz. Happy to talk your ear off about strollers if You have anymore questions. If you have a stroller store besides Nordstrom, go there and check out as many as you can. I bought ours from Albeebaby and got around $300 store credit which we’re putting that towards other things. It's on the subway monthy but I try to use the local stop with an elevator to make it even easier. It's been to Comic Con, the AMNH, the beer garden and multiple restaurants, breweries, stores and in and out of our car with no mechanical issues. I did add the Bugaboo foot muff as we do take her out on days like today where it's windy and below freezing. She seems to like it and loves being out in it. I also decided to get an even smaller stroller, the cybex libelle, around Xmas because we are traveling by air a lot this year and it folds up to fit into the overhead nicely. The dragonfly would be gate check or checked with the bags. If you need more info feel free to DM.

Hi, we ended up buying the fox cub! I had in length chats with the bugaboo customer service agents and a few staff members at baby stores in Ireland and they were all super helpful. The only thing with dragonfly was it’s purely a city stroller and everyone told us that it won’t even go over grass! We’re not very active but I don’t want the hassle of cleaning the wheels all the time. Also, one SA told us suspension is a big thing so go for something with bigger wheels so the baby isn’t disturbed during bumpy rides. Fox cub is all good as Fox 5 (apart from 2-3 features which didn’t matter much to us). It does take a bit of boot space but it’s not the end of the world for us as we don’t travel domestic as much. Hope this helps. X

We regret/ted getting the Dragonfly. It says it’s an urban stroller but even the sidewalk clogged the wheels. Spend 2-3times per walk unclogging and having to think about where we can and can’t go in the city. We live in London uk. In addition it’s not very much suspended and so rickets a lot which makes the seat drop down from upright to semi upright. It’s a great concept and has all possibilities to be the one and done - but the design flaws make it the worst of all works. Not small enough for travel and not big enough for comfort and resilience . We are now doin the two stroller think. Large for here and small for travel.
