Glass is probably the safest, but I think silicone is a great, practical option. We love the Boon Nursh bottles. They are plastic on the outside, but the milk only comes into contact with silicone, and they can be repurposed later on as straw cups or snack containers.

We loved them! Never really had spit up issues, gas was always within the realm of what mylicon solves once we got her formula sorted. Didn't seem to swallow a ton of air or anything with them. They were the only bottles baby would take from the day we got home, so that's pretty much all we used. Never had a complaint. We're still using them, they have sippy cup and straw caps too. Plus the snack lids are great. Also 100/10 if you travel. We flew with them, I'd bring 2 or 3 of the outer plastic shells, but a bunch of the silicone liners/nipples (and they sell convenient and easy to clean compression bun things for travel). Had like, 12 clean bottles in my carry on between the compressed ones and the expanded ones in the shell. They're also super easy to hand wash. We mostly used the dishwasher, but at various times needed to hand wash for whatever reason. Plus they're fun colors. Sometimes that little bit of fun really helps when everything else has been really hard that day.

[check out this post for some helpful tips](https://www.reddit.com/r/FormulaFeeders/s/6nBaSDSRYz) I personally really liked the Gulicola bottles. I found them on Amazon and baby took to them really well. But we also really liked Boon Nursh because they were much easier to travel with. A good number of bottles I would say is like 8-10. In the first month or so you’ll do between 7-9 feedings per day and then it’ll gradually go down as baby gets older. Every baby is different and some will have preferences but we got lucky with the first bottle we offered.

When I searched, I found articles about lawsuits against Tommee Tippee, Philips, and Handi-Craft, but nothing about Boon. Several of the articles stated microplastic leakage, which wouldn't exist in Nursh bottles because the plastic doesn't touch the liquid. All you would need to be concerned with for silicone bottles is breakdown of the silicone nipple and pouch. Also, I haven't heard anything regarding Nursh bottles, and a potential lawsuit. I work for the company that owns the brand, I've bought these for my own daughter, my niece, and a friend's children. I see the manager and assistant manager of the retail store regularly and haven't heard anything close to a lawsuit. The most scandalous thing that happened at the company this year was a Star Trek collector claiming we had a "warehouse full of inventory" for the Star Trek Enterprise collectible ship released. Note: we did not have a warehouse full of Star Trek inventory. The lie detector determined that was a lie.

So happy to see so many who also love Boon because I also think they’re amazing! We bought comotomo and boon — returned como and loved boon much more. Especially love the nipple shape, and that baby can suction the bottle so that no air goes in - hard to explain but I find it closer to breastfeeding. We did not replace them every 6 months though… Hope I didn’t miss something… we’ve had them for 10 months now and they’ve been great. Every now and then we boil to get any soap residue off the silicone. And I also take sips of water out of a randomly selected bottom half to make sure it doesn’t taste soapy - part of baby’s quality assurance team!

We’ve used these since birth and really like them! A couple of “cons” we’ve noticed over the two months: - The nipple is a little more rigid than some other brands - The silicone liner isn’t as thin/flexible as those playtex liner bag things (my sister used those too) so if baby unlatches while the nipple is full of milk the liner will sometimes try to go back to its original shape and will pull air bubbles through the nipple hole. - The size 1 nipple that they come with seems to increase spit up for my baby, but size 0 works great. - I love that you can just bring a few shells and a bunch of liners. However, a lot of times the milk will somehow get all over the nipple ring and we end up washing the whole thing anyways. If we were traveling I would probably just rinse it off and put a clean liner in, but it doesn’t seem like it always works as it should. And yes, we have all the parts seated properly and tightened. - The caps are a little hard to remove with the round design. My mom is a little older and has small hands, and she really struggled with this. When we prepped bottles and she was helping, I made sure to leave the cap slightly askew for her. -Measurement lines aren’t super easy to see Despite those things, these are still our favorite bottles!

If you purchase the smaller 5oz size they come with a slow flow nipple that my LC thought "wasn't bad". Lol we just couldn't keep up with Dr. Brown dishes, glass or not. Edited to add: you can check out the Mason Bottle brand for a glass alternative. They have nipples that connect onto your regular mason jars for an affordable glass option do some research I think comotomo nipples may connect onto mason jars as well). If you're like me you have at least four or five mason jars already in the cabinet somewhere, so you'd only need to buy the nipples, not their sets. I forget the specifics but there is also a hack where you can buy a connector to pump directly into the Mason Bottle so that could be very handy. You can also freeze and warm in the Mason Bottle jar, just don't over fill. And they sell cheaper silicone covers on Amazon for extra drop protection. I think this company also does stainless steel bottles too. I seriously wanted to do the Mason Bottle system but our daycare doesn't allow glass so I registered for the silicone instead. Hope you find something you are comfortable using!
