If you want some suggestions, Ergobaby’s Embrace and Boba’s Bliss are both newborn focused carriers. They’re stretchy and will last until baby is around 15ish lbs. Stretchy wraps like Solly and Boba are also appropriate, as well as ring slings and woven wraps.

For a good newborn carrier or wrap, the head support comes from supporting baby in a good position with head against parent's upper chest, and from the carrier being snug enough to provide that support. The embrace should be fine for this - I haven't used it but I see lots of good fit checks. The carriers with the big, stiff-necked head rests typically don't support baby in a great position. Stretchy wraps and some others like boba bliss allow you to tuck baby's head into the shoulder strap but if the wrap/carrier is properly tight this should be unnecessary most of the time.

I didn't feel comfortable with wraps either esp because I had pretty intense PPA. I found the boba bliss easy and not scary to use! It was also very comfy. It wears like a stretchy wrap but has like no learning curve.

You can get a Moby or Boba stretchy wrap for pretty cheap on Amazon. They are great in the early months while the baby is so tiny and doing the newborn scrunch. If you can spend a little more, splurge on the ergo embrace or boba Bliss. I have both and love them, but they won't be comfy much past 15 or so pounds from what people say. I have a Tula FTG put up for when he's outgrown these carriers.

Oh man the Boba Bliss looks so simple! I am in a pretty rural area so I doubt we have anywhere I can go in person. I’ll check though! Thank you for the recommendations and link.

I had a boba bliss that I found very comfy and easy to put on. I like that it had a way to use the carrier strap to support the newborn baby’s head if they fall asleep while you’re wearing it. My baby always fell asleep in it.

stretchy buckle carrier like Ergo Embrace or Boba Bliss -- the BEST for newborns (and I've used a lot of carriers with a lot of babies!) Yes, they will outgrow it by 4 months or so (too heavy for the stretchy material to be supportive) but newborns are really hard to get a good fit in most buckle carriers An adjustable mei dai or a woven wrap is also a good option! if you are USA based, check out Little Zen One!

Hi, if you are going to carry your newborn, you have to know that not all carriers are suitable from day 1. If you prefer buckle carriers, I would look for a second hand Boba Bliss, perfect for the first months. Then, the best thing would be to find a lending library or a well supplied babywearing consultant near you, so you can try on different types of carriers. I add the Instagram account of a great plus size babywearing consultant that can be helpful https://www.instagram.com/jacethewrapper
Thread: "Solly wrap or something else?"
Solly is more lightweight than the boba so would recommend that for a baby born in warmer months. Hope and plum also makes a wrap that is lightweight, a bit less stretch than the solly and comes in different lengths which could be a plus. I’m on the smaller side and the solly drags on the ground while I’m wrapping it which grosses me out in public depending on where I am. I also love the boba bliss for early days. It’s like a wrap but has buckles so better for a quick up if needed. Congratulations and good luck!
