Thread: "Best jogging stroller or other equipment you can use during training to help bring the little ones along?"
Bob jogger, get the sun and rain cover. I used both (rain was for winter running rather than rain). Stopped when my kid was 4 and didn’t really like it anymore. Eventually I had to bribe him, Msybe from age 2 up, with a stop at the deli or a pack of chips, but it kept me running when my spouse traveled all week for work.
Thread: "What do I get with luxury/expensive strollers (uppababy, Nuna) over affordable ones (Chicco, Graco)"
Can confirm. We have two bobs and a graco. The bobs are off the charts in durability and quality by comparison.
Thread: "Advice for running with a stroller?"
Wow I’ve been running with a bob for 2 years now and never realized that’s how you turn. I’ve been keeping the front wheel loose because I couldn’t control it when it was locked straight on turns and would end up in someone’s front yard. Thanks I’ll try it tomorrow!
Thread: "Best stroller for solely running?"
You’re going to get a lot of people recommending the bob, but I highly recommend checking out the Thule glide. I loved mine so much—it was easy to maneuver on different surfaces and my kid seemed comfortable. He’s is too old for strollers now, but I have great memories of training runs and even a few local races. Have fun whichever one you choose.
Thread: "Stroller options: jogging stroller for everyday use as well? "
Highly recommend biting the bullet and planning on two strollers, or you will end up compromising way too much on ideal qualities of either. We got a Bob stroller with infant attachments and I love that thing still 2.5 years later. It's great for hikes and tougher terrain compared to a standard stroller. I even prefer it for grocery store runs. Any big day trips where I can take up most of the trunk with it, I enjoy using it. We also got a very compact Baby Jogger stroller (note: not a jogging stroller, just the brand name) for longer travel and other tight spaces. It also has infant attachments and we found it useful from early on. For airport travel, I would never want to deal with my Bob. Even for outings at restaurants I highly prefer bringing the compact one, in case little one needs a spot to sleep. I've seen our friends try to bring their unwieldy larger strollers and they are such a hassle in many cases. Also, in general, it's just the more practical way to throw in a stroller "just in case".
Thread: "Best jogging strollers from actual stroller parents?"
I have a double BOB - definitely worth the price. I ran with a single BabY Trend jogging stroller and there is a huge difference between the lower end and higher end. I have also ran with (borrowed) a single BOB and it is just as good. If you are on the faster side (sub6-7 mile with stroller) I have heard the Ironman from BOB is a good idea. If you want to use the stroller for more than just runs however, the revolution is great.
Thread: "Single or double stroller?"
Single. My advice would be to get what you need for right now. Then change it when your needs change when they do change. Also, look at secondhand strollers on FB market place. So many get sold barely used and/ or in excellent condition. Also, as someone who has pushed single to double strollers - they are heavy and hard to maneuver on anything other than flat concrete/ parking lot/ a store when compared to true doubles (especially the double BOB, which I can push and maneuver with one hand up a hill with two 35lbs toddlers in it; could never do that with a city select single to double - I tried, we got rid of it).
Thread: "Is a double stroller really necessary?"
I think every kid is different, but both of mine (4.5F and 3M) still love riding in our double BOB stroller. We go on long walks fairly frequently (3-5 miles) and if they get antsy, they just get out and walk for a bit until they get tired. I would just gauge it on your own kiddo. I have several mom friends whose kids absolutely hated riding and preferred to walk even from a pretty young age.
Thread: "Advice for running with a stroller?"
You’ve gotten a lot of great advice already. I have ran around 800 miles with first and single and now a double stroller over the past 3 years. I do not switch hands ever bc I run on sidewalks that are near main roads and I insist on wearing the safety strap. I push with my left hand always and when I’m going uphill or around a turn, I use both hands. Especially now that each kid weighs over 25 pounds lol. Keep your tires inflated, they will get low and that makes the push heavier and hard and sometimes uneven. Keep them full and you’ll avoid all of that. The BOB and double BOB the handle bar adjust to your preferred height which is nice. I keep an extra snack and a pacifier on board just in case. For hills, use both arms, run on your toes, and if it’s really steep, lock your arms out and think of it like a weighted sled. Going downhill just use your hamstrings and arm to pull so you don’t fly too fast. On the straight easy paths, focus on returning to your natural running form, keeping yourself fully upright and keeping your free arm from crossing the midline as much as possible. Pay more attention to weather than you may have in the past. Even 60 can feel cool for the babes bc they’re sitting there doing nothing. Just bring a blanket and tuck them in. The bob umbrella portion is really pretty good and even in a drizzle will keep them dry. You’re supposed to lock the front wheel but I don’t bc the paths I run curve too much. I do 💯 use the safety strap and the five point harnesses. Happy running to you and your little one.
Thread: "stroller for serious running"
We bought a used BOB for our 2 kids after having a used Thule Chariot for our first. The BOB is hands down the better choice for us. I’m not hitting trails with it, but even for urban running it’s a superior unit. Suspension, kid comfort, maneuverability. It’s great!
Thread: "Strollers?"
We have so many strollers lol. Thule spring: affordable, adapter for most car seats, great ride. Good for travel too! Could be a great choice if you only want one. Bob jogger: amazing, rides like a champ, the only downside is that it’s huge and refilling the tires is annoying. Bugaboo butterfly: I cashed in gift cards for this and love it. It’s amazing for travel. Definitely not a necessity, but so nice. Uppababy vista: it’s so popular for a reason. This thing is a workhorse, fits in the car fairly well when you break it down, and is so adaptable. It’s expensive but soooo worth it.
Thread: "Readiness for jogging stroller"
When is your next wellness check with baby? It might be helpful to get a second opinion from your pediatrician who will be looking at neck strength anyways. It's such a subjective thing. Personally, we waited until we felt very confident by our child's ability to have the proper neck strength and ability to keep their head up. Our BOB jogger was just bouncy by nature, even on a paved surface, and the back/head rest area wasn't nearly as cushy or supportive as our Uppababy stroller was.
Thread: "Strollers - what did you wish you knew before you bought?"
We didn’t get a stroller til baby was 8 months. I still mostly baby wear, but I picked up a second hand Bob jogging stroller and now she’s been going on runs with me. I also have a petite baby who is very happy in the carrier.
Thread: "Affordable double stroller recommendations?"
We got a double BOB off Facebook marketplace for a great deal. I don’t like it for keeping it in the car, but it’s great for leaving in the shed or garage and good on all terrain. I tried a bunch of different double strollers and that was by far the favorite.
Thread: "What do I get with luxury/expensive strollers (uppababy, Nuna) over affordable ones (Chicco, Graco)"
Yep, our BOB is an absolute unit. We also have a Bugaboo double stroller (the Donkey) and it's superb.
Thread: "Has anyone tried the Doona car seat/stroller? Is it really worth the hype?"
Yeah, I was kinda shocked to hear all the hate. We’re 5’10” and 5’5”. I never would have thought it was heavy. I’ve had to carry other car seats that are bulkier and those seemed just as heavy, more awkward to carry due to being larger, and didn’t have the option to transform into a stroller. Our was great on a vacation we flew - able to go through the airport and security with it so easily. We have a dog that requires lots of walks, so before our LO was big enough for our Bob, the doona was perfect for going around the block. Definitely not the best stroller for anything like a hiking trail or uneven pavement (even sidewalk cracks can jostle the carriage pretty good) but for what it is, it’s incredible. Going out to dinner, running errands (it fits inside a Costco shopping cart), walking around the zoo - we loved it. Our daughter also didn’t want to be in the car seat for the first few months unless the car was moving, so one of us carries her and we can put our personal belongings/diaper bag in the stroller if we’re out with her.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
We were given the BOB stroller at our shower brand new. Its pretty large and hard to carry alone, but SO NICE. I bought a smaller umbrella like one on Facebook marketplace and prefer my expensive stroller and the potential hassle.
Thread: "Double Stroller Help!"
I love my double bob, but I know a lot of people don't need something that intense!
Thread: "What stroller do you have for everyday use and do you like it?"
Bob stroller acquired via FB marketplace to reduce the cost. It’s great!
Thread: "Best jogging stroller or other equipment you can use during training to help bring the little ones along?"
The Bob. If having more than one kid get the double.
Thread: "Strollers - what did you wish you knew before you bought?"
Just don’t do what I did and cheap out. I was trying to save money on baby items and I got an evenflo travel system off Amazon and I regret it every day lol. It rattles and is sooooo bumpy even on sidewalks. I never used the bassinet feature because it’s gigantic and has really badly designed straps. It’s fine for shopping and has a huge basket but that’s all I use it for. I’m currently looking for a better stroller for when she outgrows the car seat cause I don’t like the upright version of the stroller either. We ended up buying a second hand BOB jogger when baby was like 2 weeks old cause we took her out in the evenflo once and actually turned around and went home because it felt unsafe it was so rattly.
Thread: "Strollers - what did you wish you knew before you bought?"
When my baby was super small, it was whatever her car seat fit in. So we had a Graco. Once she got a little bigger and dad started taking her out disc golfing and on runs, we got a BOB off marketplace. The big wheels made rough terrain a lot easier.
Thread: "Advice for running with a stroller?"
I’m a guy so I can’t bring the female aspect about all this but stroller wise Bob stroller is what we had after trying several. We got a great deal on a used one which was totally worth it. We had twins and I wanted to continue to go off road with the boys in tow adventuring and jog at places like on rails to trails kind of locations being it’s safer than on the road and seeing what nature had to entertain them while getting in a workout. We tried a bunch of different ones till I finally had enough and we found the Bob stroller. It has shocks so the precious cargo is comfy, you can lock the front tire so it tracts straight, it has breaks which doubles as a parking break with a lock and it helps slow you down while going down hill or give you a break going up hill, plenty of storage, a large umbrella for sun or rain. It worked great for us and I’d HIGHLY recommend it over anything else. The only downside is it comes at a cost but I will tell you it’ll be the only stroller you’ll need. Hope this helps and keep going.
Thread: "Never knew baby strollers were so expensive. What's next ?"
If you like running, get a BOB stroller used. There might be better jogging stroller brands out there, but a used BOB is gonna be better than anything new for less than $400.
Thread: "Nuna Triv Next as the only stroller?"
I have the triv next as my only stroller, I live in a rural area and it doesn’t go on the bumpy roads. I use it only for paved sidewalks and trails, grocery stores, coffee shops, etc. I really love that it’s easy to maneuver, doesn’t feel flimsy and is light enough for me to manage on my own. It takes up about half of my Mazda cx 5 trunk. If you are a big trail walker, you’ll probably want a Bob as a secondary stroller which you can get second hand easily. Overall I’ve loved ours, I’ve treated it pretty rough the past year and it’s still working great.
Thread: "Running Strollers? "
I got a Thule urban glide - love it. Comparable to the Bob
Thread: "Best jogging stroller or other equipment you can use during training to help bring the little ones along?"
Bob stroller, hands down. Check Facebook marketplace or other such sites and you'll find them for very cheap. Might have to spend $20 on some new tubes but you'll save a trash ton of money overall
Thread: "Bob jogger for everyday stroller???"
I've used a BOB for both kids and will be using it with this one. I love the BOB! It's an absolutely perfect everyday stroller for me! Great steering, fantastic for walks which I always took plenty of. Sturdy and strong enough to store whatever too, so good for errands (although alot of strollers are good for errands). We have the adapter for our Graco seat, works great. Also I would always recommend a bucket seat. It doesn't always make sense for people but for ME it always did/does. Getting baby ready and in seat before getting to car, making it to and from car in a single trip, and of course w the stroller click out, click in, and you're on your way, and in the case of bad weather - who wants to be doing multiple car trips? Convertible seats are totally fine - they can be cumbersome and sometimes you don't get the "full life" due to the kid growing like a weed, or, having a new kid and needing a second/new/bigger booster style seat for your eldest anyway. Edit to add:. We have a big car so folding it was never a space issue. It might be for some.
Thread: "Advice for running with a stroller?"
Lots to say here! I had to figure it out on my own so happy to share what I have learned! I have been running with my daughter since she was born, 4 years now and we still do stroller runs to preschool 2 days a week, as she has Autism and can walk but not for the 2k we need to go. 1). Like others said 3 wheeled (running) stroller with inflatable tires. I started with her in a 4 wheel with plastic tires, it was doable but brutal and not fun. We got a BOB Revolution running stroller for 50$ on FB marketplace, works like a charm even though she is 50 lbs! Highly recommend that model. 2) I don't lock the front wheel, din it too hard to run with like that, but like others said, be aware about wheel going wonky when going off some curbs, it never happens for me when she is in the stroller, likely because of her weight, but on my 2k run home with an empty stroller it happens. 3. I mostly run holding on with right hand and left normal running motion, sometimes switch bit found its not really necessary, only downside to using right hand for the whole run is sometimes from stabilizing (making sure stroller stays straight) with just my right hand can make my forearm a little sore later. 4. Make sure you adjust your runs! I run 10ish for a stroller Run, but my paces are at least 20-40 seconds slower than non stroller because of the extra effort, ESPECIALLY on hills. The best thing I did is start to go my Heart Rate and ignore pace on stroller runs, and just take the hills as slow as you need to keep it nice and easy. You ever heard how runners say hills are speedwork in disguise. Don't fight the hills, they will win.
Thread: "Jogging stroller -BOB or other?"
We got a Bob Revolution Flex 2.0...older model, on a good sale, with our Amazon registry discount...for $275. It was absolutely worth it for us, but I'm glad we didn't pay full price for a brand new model! That was close enough to the cost of a more basic stroller that it felt worth the upgrade. If you don't actually jog or go on not so smooth trails though, it may not be worth it for you. Just depends on your lifestyle. It is ~30 lbs and not the smallest folded, as the wheels are huge (one of the big perks is the bike tire type wheels, way smoother ride than the standard plastic ones). It is easy and quick to fold, and fits in a small trunk just fine.
Thread: "Do you use your stroller in the winter?"
We have the same one! Love our BOB, it's held up to Ottawa winters with no problems. OP: winter terrain pretty much requires a three-wheeled stroller with decently-sized air tires and good ground clearance. If there's DEEP snow or we're going into the woods I use the hiking backpack, but for cruising around the neighborhood the BOB has been great. In winter I just keep my compact secondary stroller in the trunk of my car for indoor activities like if we're going to the museum or mall or wherever. Edit to add: city of Ottawa uses A LOT of salt on the roads and sidewalks in the winter, so we do try to give the metal parts of the wheels etc a quick wipe down when we get home from a walk to prevent potential rust.
Thread: "New parent question: Are stroller over $500 really worth it? Is a more expensive stroller always better?"
Just wanted to come here to say second hand strollers can be great too. I bought a BOB jogger with my first and then got a city select double with a whole bunch of attachments (bassinet, two seats, the attachable ride in board) with my second. Both on Facebook marketplace. Each cost $125. We had to replace some of the wheels each time, but those weren't too expensive. I've had the Bob for almost 3 years now and it still works great. The city select is my favorite item we have currently too.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
BOBs are amazing. They are the only expensive baby item that is worth it in my mind. I bought both my single and double on Facebook Marketplace for less than $200, but I would have saved up for a new one if I had to. I love to walk and they have been worth their weight in gold.
Thread: "Airport Travel with a 1 year old. Do we need our stroller? "
I always flew with my stroller. We had a single BOB stroller. I would leave it just outside the plane when boarding, and it would be there for me when we disembarked. I never had problems with it. It's great to have the stroller in the airport and on the trip. My flights have always included one layover and our airport time was a similar duration (we had to take a ferry as well). If you must check your stroller, then I'd purchase a cheap stroller that is just for the trip. You don't want to have to carry your child the entire time you're in the airport.
Thread: "Looking for a hiking stroller that handles truly rough terrain and beat up sidewalk"
BOB strollers are the gold standard. They make lightweight ones like the city mini but you’d probably do best with the Rambler! You can find them on Facebook marketplace if you’re patient
Thread: "posting here for parents - do NOT buy a Bob jogging stroller"
Wow this is wild! I second maybe pushing Amazon more on this. I’ve had a BOB for several years and absolutely love it. We have never had anything break and it’s stood up to a lot of abuse (running, mud, rain, heat)
Thread: "Recommendations for jogging strollers?!"
I came here to say the exact same thing. We live out in the country and the BOB all terrain has been great for walking on the road/side of road and for running. We have put a lot of miles on ours.
Thread: "What stroller do you have for everyday use and do you like it?"
we have a bob jogger all terrain single and bob double rambler jogger. a jogging stroller is really nice for all types of surfaces we also have a joovy qool for indoors and tighter situations. the joovy qool can accommodate 2-3 kids depending of the setup of the seats
Thread: "For those with a toddler & baby, did you feel like a double stroller was necessary?"
I decided to wait too. And then I bought a double BOB off Facebook before baby was 2 weeks old 😂 But we live in a very walkable neighborhood and are frequently walking to parks, the library, concerts etc.
Thread: "Best double strollers for infant + toddler?"
I love our double Bob. We had a double Bob and a baby jogger city select (both second hand) and we just did not care for the city select. First, if the bigger kid is in the more forward position it’s significantly harder to maneuver. Second, my 2.5y o looked soooo uncomfortable in that seat. You can rearrange the seats many ways but with an infant the only really functional way was the infant hot option and the toddler in front. We had the chicco keyfit car seat and it was hard/annoying to clip in/out when the seat for the toddler was installed. The Bob duallie is amazing, I can control it with one hand even when it’s loaded with a ton of stuff plus kids, even if it’s in grass or dirt. Cons- it is big. Could be problematic for trunk space, but side walks are less of an issue for us. They are as wide as a wheelchair and (should) fit through all ADA compliant doors. It’s really hard because strollers are a deeply personal item. We use ours on walks around the neighborhood, the zoo, the park and rent them when we go to Disney. Highly recommend buying used if possible.
Thread: "Advice for running with a stroller?"
I’ve been running for 10ish years on and off and have 3 kids so here is my advice: Spend money on a legit running stroller, like BOB/Thule etc. it will make a world of difference. Do not beat yourself up about your pace. My stroller miles are consistently 2-3 mins slower than non stroller miles with the same amount of effort. Things like straps to hold pacifiers, cups, snack cups make a difference so when your kiddo starts throwing stuff you don’t have to constantly stop to retrieve. One hand, two hand, right hand, (blue hand?), just do whatever feels comfortable. I run mainly with my right hand pushing but will switch to left occasionally, and use two hands when going uphill. Like another user said, make it an outing, run to a park, coffee shop, wherever. We have a little public farm 3.5 miles from our house and it’s a great place to run to, stop and let the kids explore, and run home. Schedule schemedule the kiddo will sleep while you run, don’t plan your life around that, if you feel like going for a run throw that baby in and go. Also if baby is incredibly fussy I solemnly swear by the water or fresh air method, either will work to calm them down and sometimes us moms need the run/walk to calm down too. Your body is different now, every baby I’ve had I’ve had to meet this new body that I have too. What used to be hard may be easy and what used to be easy may be hard. Give yourself loads of grace.
Thread: "Almost decided but would like your input on Mockingbird 2.0"
It was a fine stroller for us— the price point was what sold me. I also was recently able to resell it with all its parts for $350. But it was so frustrating to collapse and travel with. Took up our entire trunk space and was super heavy. Honestly you might be better off with double side by side jogging strollers. Collapsibility is great, travels well and you can find them for a good price (I had a baby trend and worked great. Bob makes them with infant insert).
Thread: "[bc] Stroller Help! Uppababy vs Thule, Urban vs All Terrain, Three versus Four wheels"
I bought the ridge as my daily stroller and I love it. We live in thr city but have a dirt path near us I knew I'd want to take walks on and it handles it incredibly well. The basket is a good size and I like having the big wheels and suspension. I think its fine to have the baby look forward. By the time you transition them to the seat they'll be probably 6 months anyways and want to look out at the world. I have 2 strollers, a small one for the car that I use with my car seat for errands and the ridge as my daily. I don't think you'd need a Vista and a jogging stroller, I think you can get away with just a jogging stroller. I'd also add Bob jogging strollers to your list to look into. They only reason I didn't choose that one instead of the ridge is because I wanted to use the bassinet with it but they're fantastically built strollers that last a really long time for the kids (like I used to sit in them when I worked at a Baby store 6 years ago).
Thread: "Jogging stroller recommendations?"
I found a BOB in really good shape on Facebook marketplace for like $150. Try to find one less than 5 or 6 years old. They're sweet and have a decent amount of storage on the bottom too. My two year old actually likes going for runs in it. It's smooth as butter.
Thread: "Running Strollers? "
I bought the double and could even push the toddlers through thick, icy snow. The single is still my favorite and I sometimes still run with my soon 6y old in it (when he is sick or anxious. The kids grew up in my running strollers and both love it when I take them for a run. Btw, the one I got does not have a swivel wheel, so straight paths are better.
Thread: "What stroller do you have for everyday use and do you like it?"
This is our primary stroller! Love the balance of relatively compact/lightweight and easy to handle terrain. We’ve flown with it and it worked well as a gate check option! I have a used Bob that is great for running/ true off roading, but the City mini can go everywhere I want it to while walking, just sometimes opt for the Bob for a slightly smoother ride
Thread: "In need of stroller recommendations from experienced parents. Is the Nuna Demi Grow worth the price?"
We have multiple strollers. Our jogging stroller had a conversion kit to make a travel system and then we got a cheap umbrella for when my oldest was a little older. Now that we have 2 kids, we got a double BOB and a joovy ultra lightweight caboose, both second hand.
Thread: "Best jogging stroller that could also be an everyday one? Good with trails also!"
Love my bob. I haven't used it with a car seat but I chose it over my vista to take to the zoo last time with my 2 year old
Thread: "Best double stroller?"
We had to go through many strollers to accommodate each point in time. We got all of our strollers on Facebook marketplace aside from the wonderfold so it’s possible to do this in a thrifty way. We did a stroller frame for the first couple of months. We preferred the baby trends one over the joovy twin Roo one. We also got a wonderfold w4 and would lay them in the base of that for strolls At 6ish months we used the uppababy glink and it’s still our travel stroller. Great and compact. Our daily use is the wonderfold. We use it for walks in the local park or for larger outings like the zoo. We also have a double bob for jogging.
Thread: "Best doubles stroller"
I bought a double bob secondhand! I'm just now starting to use it. I have been baby wearing my 2nd for most walks prior to this point. Partially because I enjoy it but also she naps well when baby worn and my single bob is easier to maneuver. The double feels like a boat lol but it's great to have. My 2nd did not like the angle the carseat tipped back at in the double, head and feet are nearly even (we have Graco carseat and adapter) and she's always wanted to be more upright. So I've quit using the car seat now that she's over 6mo and can sit when supported. I'm also planning to get a wagon when I have 2 toddlers, vs a toddler and baby. I have friends that use those with their littles and love them!
