Thread: "Stroller help"
Always lots of recommendations for the Uppababy but that stroller is heavy as shit. Go with the original designer, Baby Jogger City Select. Uppababy stole their design anyways and then slapped a heftier price tag on it. I love my city select, I can open and close with one hand, and use one hand to load into my truck bed. It has the nice big wheels, aluminum (I could be wrong on this) frame so it’s light but sturdy, can accommodate 2 babies, technically three if you use the glider board. I use it in Alberta with our winters, although I haven’t experienced an east coast winter I think we get tons of snow here and I mean yes you have to push a little harder, it’s never given me problems traction-wise or failed me. Cleans like great, and the accessories are also far cheaper than Uppababy, where your just paying for the name.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
It really depends on your lifestyle. I live in a city and mostly walk everywhere. I have an uppababy vista and it is the most common stroller in my area in addition to the city select and and silver cross strollers. A tandem is necessary because shops are too small for side x side doubles. That being said, it is not the stroller I load in and out of the car because I find it a little bulky. I use an umbrella stroller, older child walks, and I wear baby. I started off with a chicco bravo, which is light weight and easy to fold, but it is not cut out for city life. Basically my stroller replaces a car where I live.
Thread: "What is your honest review of the Graco Nest Travel System? [bc]"
We have the Graco Modes Pramette system, which I think is just a teeny bit of a higher price point than the Nest. My husband was very resistant to spending much money on a stroller so that’s the one we ended up buying. I used it for a year and didn’t like it — it was extremely bumpy on city sidewalks (my coffee always spilled all over the place in the cup holder), and it needs to be steered 2 handed. It felt very cheap and rickety to me, the frame felt squeaky and loose. My husband used it for a week during the summer and absolutely hated it. We went and replaced it with a City Select 2, I wish we had just done that from the beginning. I will say that the click connect with the car seat is really nice, but you can also just buy adapters to attach the car seat to other strollers.
Thread: "Does anyone regret not getting a single to double stroller?"
Idk I love our single to double (baby jogger city select- marketplace) and I hate the side by sides. We have two different ones and they’re both mediocre comparatively. But I’ve heard people feel the opposite. Hard to know!
Thread: "I am losing my mind trying to pick out a double stroller "
My kids have a 20 month age difference and we got the Baby Jogger City Select 2 Single-to-Double Modular Stroller. We love it. It might not be exactly what you’re looking for because it does need adapters/accessories and was on the pricey side. I tried out the Graco Nest to Go and the Baby Jogger is much easier to steer and feels much more solid. I bought mine on Amazon around a holiday and it was around $250 off so you can find deals. I was a little intimidated by figuring out the attachments, but we figured it out pretty easily on their website. I am a little worried for when my second switches from her car seat to a toddler seat since it will be pricey to get a second seat. In the end, it was worth it for us to get a nicer stroller since I walk with my kids a lot on city streets (uneven, rough, etc.).
Thread: "Strollers?"
I’ve loved my Chicco Corso stroller (we got the travel system with the key fit 35). Just switched to a baby jogger city select 2 because we’re expecting #2 and it’s convertible. It’s fine, but definitely not the one handed open and close we’re used to with the chicco.
Thread: "Baby Jogger City Select 2- mid-tier?"
I think people are freaking weird about how their stroller looks and want to be seen pushing an expensive stroller rather than actually get one that's good for them and their needs. Get the one you researched that suits you. %@$& what anyone else thinks.
Thread: "Stroller recommendations for city-dwellers?"
I’m an NYC dad and have talked to a lot of other parents about this. Biggest factor to consider is if you’re planning to have a second kid, at least while the first needs to be in a stroller. If so, invest in a single-to-double. The uppababy vista, or Nuna Demi at the high end, or the baby jogger select, maxi cosi Lila, or mockingbird in the mid range. There’s other similar ones too. These are all in-line strollers where one kid is basically on top of the other. Side by side strollers are impossible to manage on busy city sidewalks or public transportation. The downside is that all of these strollers are pretty large still and heavy. Can be tough to store in an apartment and even get down the aisle of a city supermarket. If you think you’re one and done or gonna have a larger gap, just get a really high quality travel stroller, with the option for a ride on board for the older kid when the time comes. If I could do it all over again, I would have spent the money on a Babyzen Yoyo. All my parent friends with them rave about it. Built solid, lightweight, folds up tiny for travel, you can get car seat adapters or a newborn kit for the infant, and a ride on board for the future. I’ve spent too much money in my life on strollers now to invest in one but I really wish I did.
Thread: "Strollers - baby jogger city select 2 vs uppababy cruz v2"
Cruz basket is unparalleled. If you live in the city and do any walking to buy groceries, choose nothing else. Also if you ever take transit (someday...?) Cruz is nice and narrow. A few inches makes a big difference!
Thread: "Double Stroller recs? Nuna, uppababy, cybex? "
I have the baby jogger city select - it’s similar in setup to the uppababy vista, but both seats are the same size. That means both have a 50lb weight limit and overall it’ll last you longer. We love it! The configurations were a bit limited when using it with an infant seat, the toddler seat couldn’t really recline but I never found that problematic because my oldest was never a stroller napper. And it wasn’t a concern after those first few months. I love the versatility - I can leave the second seat in the trunk if I only have one with me or I can turn the rear seat to face me if that kid won’t stop bugging their sibling. It maneuvers easily and has worked great for our family. They’re currently 2 and nearly 4 and we still use it as our main stroller. I also disliked the setup of the Nuna, because no one was going to be happy sitting in the basket. It’s just not convenient. And also found the mockingbird to be cheaply made. I’ve done so much stroller research over the years and it seems like the perfect double doesn’t really exist, you have to compromise somewhere.
Thread: "Strollers for winter in Canada?"
I have a baby jogger city select gt2 and it has worked great in winter.
Thread: "Best doubles stroller"
I did a lot of research before my 2nd kid, and I really appreciated one stroller reviewer (The Stroller Guy?) who basically says that all double strollers are bad, you just have to find the one that is least bad for you & your needs. Some people swear by the Uppa Baby Vista but it seems it's just not your vibe. You can get another single wide like the Cybex Gazelle or the Baby Jogger City Select, but they are likely to have similar issues to the Uppa Baby Vista. If you live in a place with standard-width doors (aka not Europe - so more likely in North America) you are probably better off getting a double wide, which tend to be ~~easy~~ \*easier\* to maneuver. They are however ... wide. So you will need space to store it both in the car and at home. That might be the BOB double, the Thule, the very fancy Bugaboo Donkey, City Jogger Mini Double.... etc. You also have a foldable wagon option, which didn't seem practical for us, but really works for some here. So we got the Cybex Gazelle because I needed it to fit between European sized doors and in my small european car. If you have the ability to test them out in 1 place - do it! I did and that sealed the deal for me. Bring your kid along, strap them in & out, practice folding the stroller up, and practice pushing the stroller around with 1 kid in. Remember - it will be heavier with both kids! Happy shopping.
Thread: "Baby Jogger City Select 2- mid-tier?"
Your friend is rude. Go with whatever stroller that works for your needs because strollers are a personal purchase like buying a car. There are a few moms in my neighbourhood that have that particular stroller and love it! I'm just the odd duck that loves my side by side double stroller..it's not the doorways I worry about but aisles suck!🥲
Thread: "Does anyone regret not getting a single to double stroller?"
I would recommend a single stroller and a ride along board. I have the uppababy Cruz and when my 2nd baby was born my 1st was just under 2. When he wanted to ride in the stroller I was baby wearing but he usually wanted to just walk or ride on the board. I also purchased a side by side baby jogger double stroller and barely used it. It was nice for the trips to the zoo and things like that but otherwise it just wasn’t super practical for me. Much preferred the single with the ride along board!
Thread: "Do I NEED a double stroller?"
My kids are all further apart so idk about 2 under 2. But I would suggest getting a stroller that can be single or double. Like city select. So you can decide if you just need the car seat that day or if you want to throw on the older kid seat. I would always have a place for the older one to sit until they're closer to 5yo. They often don't want to walk even if it's just around a store so easier to just have a place for them I think.
Thread: "[ON] Strollers: Bumbleride Era, Baby Jogger City Select 2, other?"
I have experience with the City Select as a nanny for kids 2.5 and 5 - we walked all over (hills, gravel, dirt/rooted trails, snow, etc) the only time I ever had a hard time was in unplowed snow. It was durable and went over bumps with ease. It was a little heavy with both seats on and could be difficult to maneuver without being comfortable with its size. I will be welcoming my first child in February and personally chose to purchase one for myself as I was impressed with its durability, adaptability and overall performance.
Thread: "Strollers for winter in Canada?"
Northeastern Alberta, pregnant with #4. I baby wear during the winter, especially if they’re under 6 months old and use the stroller more come spring. But if it is a good deal on the stroller, I’d go for it. Better to have it as an option than not, ya dig? For baby wearing, there’s zip in attachments you can get for your coat, or you can put baby in a cozy onesie and add a blanket tucked around their legs to keep them warm enough to go out for a bit. Face in towards you because the cold wind dries their cheeks out, lotion when you come in anyways. Edit: my stroller vote is a second hand CitySelect. I’ve pushed it through the snow with my bigger kids and it can be done. I also think there’s a huge difference between winter stroller in a city where sidewalks are cleared vs winter stroller in a town or village where you’re just hoping someone else walked it first and packed it all down before you get there. A big part of why I babywear is because it’s just a lot easier to do that and tow my older kids on a sled than to do a stroller in the snow.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
You can get by with a cheap stroller but you can tell a difference with the expensive ones. I can maneuver our Citi select off-road with one hand while pushing two kids. It’s insane how easy it is.
Thread: "Stroller recommendations for twins?"
I should save this answer to my phone because I have to type it fairly frequently 😂 Baby Jogger City Select is the answer. - It has brackets for most car seat brands - it’s an in-line (front/back seats) - has replaceable toddler seats - seats can face both forward, both backward, face each other, sit up, recline - optional bassinets - optional older kid standing board - tons of colors - TURNS ON A DIME - smooth driving (easy one hand control) - fairly light for the size - strong - FOLDS UP to the size of a lawn chair when the seats are detached (seriously a huge must if you have a 4dr sedan) - lots of accessories (parent cup holder and pouch) - cargo rain cover - did I say it TURNS on a dime? It really does!! Best part: sold it on FB Marketplace after 4 years of daily use for $500!!! It sold in less than a day. Four things to not skimp out on. Spend the money. Stroller, car seats, diaper bag, diapers. All else is just extra stuff you probably won’t use a lot of.
Thread: "Talk to me about double strollers for children 2 years apart."
I also have the Baby Jogger city select. I love all the configurations I can do with the two seats (or bassinet or car seat) it’s very sturdy and drives sooo nice. Has a hand brake as opposed to the foot kick brake. The canopy covers on the seats are extra long so they give much more protection than other strollers. It may be “big” for some to lift or get into car etc. I’m 5’7 and strong so it’s a non issue but if you are petite it might be something you want to check out in person before purchasing. I would hands down buy this stroller over and over again.
Thread: "Double stroller recommendations [on]"
Baby Jogger City Select 2 is an option that’s similar to the uppababy vista, less expensive but still great quality and the second seat has a higher weight limit compared to uppababy. You can also often find them used on fb marketplace for a better deal, which may be worthwhile if you don’t think you’ll use it with the 4 year old for long.
Thread: "Is a double stroller really necessary?"
Mine are two years and two months apart, and for us it's a necessity. My toddler is incredibly independent and fast - sometimes he wants to walk, but then we use a leash backpack - he has proven time and again that he can't be trusted to make good choices at this age and thinks it's funny to run into the road or hide. We chose the baby jogger stroller (city select luxe) since it allows him to be in the seat longer then most strollers, and when he grows out of it there is a bench seat instead. I also got the adaptors so our existing car seat could be put on the stroller frame, so we used it with our newborn right away.
Thread: "Double stroller opinions? Baby jogger city select vs mockingbird double?"
I have a used city select that is so old the material on the seat has tears from wear and it still handles great!
Thread: "What is your honest review of the Graco Nest Travel System? [bc]"
Yes I have the same and same experience. On flat, smooth, ground it was fine (indoor walking track, or used for grocery shopping), anywhere else it was irritating. I used it for 1.5 years daily though, and a family member lent me their Thule urban glide and its night and day how amazing the difference is! I am getting a city select for baby #2 because it has the toddler and bassinet mode. I wish I would have just spent the money on a high quality stroller from the start, because it’s one of my most used items!
Thread: "What are you recommendations for double strollers?"
I just got the Baby Jogger City Select and I’m really liking it! It helps that I was able to get it secondhand for $150 but the wheels are so smooth and even though the baby has to sit in the bottom for the recline, it doesn’t feel super far away and he isn’t bumping around at all
Thread: "Talk to me about double strollers for children 2 years apart."
I just bought the baby jogger city select 2 for my 2. My toddler so far likes it and baby arrives in June. The wheels are larger which is why I got it since we live out in the country and have walk on the road/side with grass.
Thread: "DOUBLE STROLLER "
We also got the baby jogger city select. No complains here (not that we have anything else to compare it to)
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
I bought a used Baby Jogger City Select, and it's been a great investment. If you can find one second hand, then you dodge the cost, but get all the benefits of a great stroller.
Thread: "Stroller help"
I feel the same! Plus you can get the city select used for SO cheap!
Thread: "New parent question: Are stroller over $500 really worth it? Is a more expensive stroller always better?"
Just wanted to come here to say second hand strollers can be great too. I bought a BOB jogger with my first and then got a city select double with a whole bunch of attachments (bassinet, two seats, the attachable ride in board) with my second. Both on Facebook marketplace. Each cost $125. We had to replace some of the wheels each time, but those weren't too expensive. I've had the Bob for almost 3 years now and it still works great. The city select is my favorite item we have currently too.
Thread: "Best double strollers for infant + toddler?"
We have the Baby Jogger City Select and it's great! I definitely prefer the in-line strollers, and it's nice how many different ways there are to rearrange the seats.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
When I was pregnant with baby 1, I took my husband to buy buy baby and made him look at strollers. He wasn't too interested but agreed that the one I liked looked "nice." Then I went on FB marketplace or Craigslist and found a used one. It also came with the second seat and cart seat adapters. My husband bought himself a cupholder😂 it's a city select baby jogger. We're still using it and we've owned it 5 years.
Thread: "Question about Jogging strollers and snow"
Honestly, best thing I’ve had for snow is a hiking backpack carrier and yak trax for my boots. Probably depends how much snow you’re thinking of getting through. My baby jogger city select (not a jogging stroller, plastic wheels) can get through a bit but not much (snowy choppy sidewalks etc) but it’s durable and we’ll be using it for two soon (toddler and baby). I’m guessing you’d have better luck with a bicycle style one but there’s likely a limit to that too. Edit: sorry I realize I went on a bit of a tangent not really related to your question lol!
Thread: "Best double strollers for infant + toddler?"
I love our double Bob. We had a double Bob and a baby jogger city select (both second hand) and we just did not care for the city select. First, if the bigger kid is in the more forward position it’s significantly harder to maneuver. Second, my 2.5y o looked soooo uncomfortable in that seat. You can rearrange the seats many ways but with an infant the only really functional way was the infant hot option and the toddler in front. We had the chicco keyfit car seat and it was hard/annoying to clip in/out when the seat for the toddler was installed. The Bob duallie is amazing, I can control it with one hand even when it’s loaded with a ton of stuff plus kids, even if it’s in grass or dirt. Cons- it is big. Could be problematic for trunk space, but side walks are less of an issue for us. They are as wide as a wheelchair and (should) fit through all ADA compliant doors. It’s really hard because strollers are a deeply personal item. We use ours on walks around the neighborhood, the zoo, the park and rent them when we go to Disney. Highly recommend buying used if possible.
Thread: "Are expensive strollers worth it?"
Yes!!! I have the Baby Jogger City Select and LOVE IT! I like that it has real tires (so handles snow/dirt well), the seat is easy to move around, it can convert to 2 seats, and the sunshade and basket are both generous. My only caveat is it’s heavy & bulky so I don’t use it for travel (I use a MacLaren Triumph stroller for that). I bought my Baby Jogger stroller at AlbeeBaby . Com. They specialize in older models/discontinued colors and offer at a discount! They are an authorized retailer too. So highly recommend if you’re looking for a deal but can’t find used 😁
Thread: "The overwhelming world of strollers"
good sidewalks is a great starting point. that means you don't need ultralight or all-terrain, any travel system like Chicco or Graco would do. think about how often you or your partner will be alone with the baby and how important one-hand folding could be. also, as the big comment above already mentioned, try a few to get an idea of how important handle height adjustment could be for you and your partner (I'm 5'8"/174, I can't use an average stroller, it's too low for me). also, think about the possibility of 'growth' - if you plan another baby within 3 years, it might be a good idea to invest in something expandable like Baby Jogger City select or another single-to-double convertible stroller. if you expect your baby in fall or winter, it might be useful to get one with a bassinet, because it's simply warmer and windproof, so you could stroll around for an hour or more, while baby naps (which is very beneficial, actually - I mean sleeping in heavy warm clothes breathing cold humid air).
Thread: "Why is choosing a baby stroller so hard???"
Oh no! I'm sorry. We got the baby jogger city select. It's was second hand, going strong with baby#2 and holding it's value. I like it because it has a hand break. My husband is taller than me, but has much longer legs, I can't reach a foot break if the stroller is set for him. This felt like an issue for me, so hand break it is! We did like how compact the Vista is, but foot break and the toddler seat is only good to 35lbs. The city select both seats are rated to 50lbs so my almost 4yo can still ride.
Thread: "Baby Jogger City Select 2- mid-tier?"
I actually would recommend city select 2 over the uppa baby, simply because I know a ton about car seats and prefer the ones that it’s compatible with. The uppababy is not compatible with the same ones. That’s just my two cents. But obvi the uppababy is v pretty.
Thread: "Baby Jogger City Select 2 Eco - Thoughts?"
Bassinet option is coming by the end of the year according to Baby Jogger!
Thread: "Experiences with Baby Jogger City Mini GT2 or Graco FastAction Jogger LX"
I don't have the City Mini GT2, but do have the City Select Eco 2 and will say that the adaptors for the car seat (also Baby Jogger) drive me crazy. Putting the car seat onto the adaptors is never a smooth process as one side does not catch properly. Removing the cat seat usually results in me lifting up the whole damn stroller in an attempt to get the car seat off. So, needless to say, the adaptors are annoying AF. That said, I love the stroller itself. I think Baby Jogger is a great alternative to Uppababy.
Thread: "Stroller help"
Don’t be afraid to pick up something that will be ok for now from fb marketplace. Learn what features you like and don’t like without spending more than $300. If you hate it, clean it up and flip it and buy something else. I started out with a BabyJogger City Versa GT (discontinued stroller) that I picked up on fb marketplace. Basically anything from BabyJogger is worth your consideration, especially the City Mini GT, City Elite, and City Select strollers. I loved that stroller and it worked great for us as we lived in the city but frequently visited my family on the farm. Coincidentally, my mom asked me to get a stroller to leave at their place for when they had grandkids over for the day, and I picked up a City Mini GT on fb marketplace for her that she loves. The quick fold and compact package to pick up and put in a vehicle work great for her. When I got pregnant again at 5 months postpartum, my partner and I ordered a Phil & Teds Sport stroller. It’s a New Zealand brand with some quirky annoying things when reclining and folding, but overall fit our new criteria of single-to-double stroller with off-road capable tires as we now live in a tiny rural village with no sidewalks. When our second baby was born, we ordered the second seat for the Sport to help spread the cost out. I also ordered the bouncer attachment for the second seat (this has been GREAT). When in doubt or deciding between two strollers, always go for the bigger tires when possible. They handle the snow better.
Thread: "HELP! So many stroller choices!"
Just wanted to say. Whichever option you choose, definitely check out you local used market! We got a like-new Baby Jogger City Select with 2 seats for 50% or 60% off retail. Also wanted to support your plan for getting two seats. I really like having two seats because it gives me a chance to restrain the toddler if I want, instead of forcing him to walk or trying to keep him on a glide board. We can cover much bigger distances if he has a place to sit :)
Thread: "Just saying, 2 hour rule VS the Doona car seat stroller "
I bought a baby jogger city select because you can recline the seat enough for baby to lay without it being constricted. Has held up great with my now toddler on the 90+%
Thread: "Talk to me about double strollers for children 2 years apart."
We have this one. I don't feel sorry I bought it as we got a lot out of it, but as the top comment says, the perfect 1 for all occasions double stroller does not exist. We've kind of reached the end of its useful life as a double (youngest is 2 now). The legroom in the top seat is not enough anymore, and it's rather hard to maneuver in general, now that the kids are heavier. We also have a side-by-side umbrella stroller and I think that we will continue to use it for a while.
Thread: "Travel pram recommendations"
We have a Redsbaby Skip and love it. It lives in my car, and is very easy to flick open when I'm out at the shops. I've also taken it on Qantas domestically and it fits in the overhead compartment on the plane. It also feels pretty sturdy too- I tested out the Baby Jogger but it felt kind of flimsy.
Thread: "Stroller recommendations for city living?"
We have a City Select Lux and LOVE it. We have lived with it in Ottawa and Toronto and find it easy to navigate in the snow, huge basket, lots of position options, and folds up nicely. I wouldn’t get anything wider than the city select or vista as many stores in toronto have narrow passage ways and you will have trouble with a wide stroller. As a previous commenter mentioned too, consider baby wearing. Baby wearing is much much more convenient with transit.
Thread: "What do I get with luxury/expensive strollers (uppababy, Nuna) over affordable ones (Chicco, Graco)"
Same. I love mine. When baby #2 came, I got a used baby city select lux to have a double stroller. While I love it and it’s a smoother ride, I still love my Chico more.
Thread: "Talk to me about double strollers for children 2 years apart."
Yep this is what we have and I’ve loved it since day 1 when I only fax one kid. We knew we’d have kids close together so a double configuration was something we looked for from day 1. Our first two are 16 months apart and the third came 21 months later. Still love this stroller and the attachments we’ve used - bench seat, standing board
