Arlo Baby

The Arlo Baby is a Wi-Fi baby monitor designed to provide live streaming and monitoring through a smartphone app. It features night vision, two-way audio, and customizable alerts for parents.

Pros (+)

  • Versatile as both a baby monitor and home security camera
  • Live streaming available through a smartphone app

Cons (−)

  • Frequent connectivity and usability issues reported
  • High costs due to required subscription for full features
  • Many find it difficult to move around or set up

Why parents like it

Some parents appreciate its dual functionality as a home security camera. The ability to monitor from anywhere via the app is also highlighted as a useful feature.

Common complaints

Many parents express frustration with the monitor's reliability, citing that it often fails to connect or work properly. Additionally, several complain about the subscription model, feeling it adds unnecessary costs to an already expensive product.

Best for

Parents looking for a dual-purpose monitor that can also serve as a security camera. Be prepared for possible connectivity issues and subscription fees.

Bottom line

Consider the Arlo Baby only if you need a versatile camera and can tolerate potential reliability issues and ongoing costs.

Thread: "Pros vs cons of wifi baby monitor?"

I’m in cybersecurity - non wifi was non negotiable for me! We have the hellobaby one from Amazon and love it! An alternative to a baby monitor while you’re away is a regular house cam. We have Arlo cameras set up in our garage and at our doors. Could easily set one of those inside for checking in while away. I’d make sure to mention the cam to any sitters though if you go that route - especially if you have pets just be like we have them to watch the pets while we’re out - some people may not like being on camera!

Thread: "Please be careful with WiFi baby monitors"

Yes we also have a vtech one! We had to get a new one quickly as our (expensive!!) Arlo was a piece of crap and never worked. Well that vtech has been through hell and back and still works fine. It is mangled but ALWAYS works, also nice to have a non wifi one as our WiFi would come and go.

Out of curiosity, can you tell me why the wifi cameras are not as safe? I was reading any potential hacker had to be on the same wifi network as you in order to be able to access the camera feed.

Thread: "WiFi baby monitor"

We have an Arlo Wi-Fi baby monitor, and it has been so difficult to use, cannot be moved around easily (if we go anywhere), and in general quite disappointing unfortunately. We also have a RF monitor, which was super cheap, but that we now use exclusively. I hope you have better luck finding a wifi monitor!

Thread: "Arlo app update essentially bricked my baby monitor"

Yeah its just what arlo does. They want constant money flow - so they block people out of using the apps easily without a subscription & they roll out updates (just like iphone) to make old models either buggy, or outright broken.

I think that's beyond my skill set. We literally don't use cameras except for the baby monitor
