      Thread: "Hands free breast pumps"

I know this sounds crazy but a manual hand pump (like the harmony) can fully drain a breast in about 5 minutes. Meaning you could fully drain both breasts in 10 if you needed to do both. A hands free pump isn’t going to drain you and will take like 20-30 minutes to get a decent amount. I LOVED my hand pumps so much. Also getting correctly sized flanges is paramount to successful pumping and I don’t think it’s easy to find different flange sizes for hands free (except for maybe willow). A harmony costs about $20, and extra flange sizes are available on Amazon.

Thread: "Best wireless hands free breast pump to use when I return to work as a teacher?"

I’ve tried willow go and Elvie and the Elvie is the quietest on the market. Idk how they get it to be so quiet. The willow go is nice more affordable but to me it was way to hit or miss and there was days I’d have to hand express Bc it wouldn’t work. Another thing to note about wireless pumps, even though they are hands free- they are NOT leak free. Meaning you can’t bend over and move your body in a typical way when pumping with them in your bra without risking milk spilling out. The ONLY actually leak free pump is the original Willow when used with the collection bags. The original willow uses constant suction and takes a few weeks of adjustment since the suck pattern is constant. Sizing for the willow flanges are also vital Bc of the constant suck pattern it can tear up your nipples if you don’t get it right. The flanges unlike other pumps needs to be your exact nipple size or 1mm bigger. (In comparison to other pumps where suggestion is 2-3mm larger than nipple size) oh and also bra fits are incredibly important for any wireless pump you get. They have to be able to snuggly support your wireless pump without being too loose or too tight on your breast. Teachers are now also federally covered under the pumping act so your school is legally required to give you enough breaks to pump. If they don’t you could report them to the department of labor [pump act info](https://www.edweek.org/teaching-learning/teachers-to-get-breastfeeding-accommodations-under-new-law-its-about-time-they-say/2022/12)

Thread: "Elvie vs Willow Go pump?"

Have you tried to put lanolin or something similar on your nipples or directly on the flanges before pumping? That might help with the issues you mentioned. And to reiterate what others have said, yes, a wearable will always give you lower output than a traditional pump. They’re great as a secondary pump, for the situations you describe, but shouldn’t be your only pump. (I have a Willow, not a Willow Go, and it’s perfect in its role of “travel / work / unload the dishwasher / play with my toddler pump”)

      Thread: "Best wearable pump 2024?"

I wear my legendairy cups with spectra gold portable while feeding baby a bottle or having a contact nap. I just make sure I'm comfortable in the nursery chair before I start the pump. Tubing has popped out of place once or twice, but I notice the lack of suction right away and pop back in. Haven't hand any issues with LO moving cups out of place or playing with tubing, but she's only 10 weeks. I also have worn my willow 3.0 while driving, doing laundry, cooking and out running errands. And I recently got the baby buddha 2.0 to have a high suction option that was more portable the Spectra Gold Portable. I wore that one today while making breakfast (bipimbap with sunny side up eggs). I think wearables full time are completely doable and allow me to use sports bras or nursing bras rather than needing the extra pump bras.

Thread: "Exclusive pumping - what’s the best pump?"

Personally, I believe any hospital grade pump is great. I pump at work and in the car on the way to work. I use a Willow for on the go and Motif Luna. I find my output is exactly the same. If you need to, you can order a set of pumpin pals flange inserts. This is the key piece to emptying my breast for a few reasons: 1. I have slightly flat and very small nipples so my areola gets sucked into a traditional flange and blocks my milk ducts. The silicone pumpkin pal basically pulls only my nipple into the flange instead of my whole boob, it’s great. 2. Its silicone so it’s really comfortable and you don’t need to worry about pain or using creams. 3. You don’t need to replace the parts every three months. According to the website, as long as you care for it correctly, the flanges don’t need replacing like traditional flanges. I wake up in the middle of the night to pump even though I breastfeed while I’m home so the answer is yes. It won’t last forever though. *in my opinion, pumping is the hardest thing I’ve had to do postpartum when it comes to my baby. I can sit down and BF all day long but having to pump every 2-3 hours and clean all my parts after each pump, then pump on my way home from work... it’s freaking mentally and physically exhausting. Good luck :)

Thread: "Choosing between Elvie and Willow Go — any advice?"

It was the original willow, so not exactly the same. Sorry, I should have specified. As a first time parent, the opaque covering made positioning and monitoring for issues basically impossible for me. Which I think is also true for the Willow Go. I do think willow customer service telling me that it was defective but not offering a replacement could happen for any of their models though.

The Elvie app does better at estimating than Willow? 😅 Mine is never accurate, I just use it as a guideline to make sure something is coming out. ETA: I don't like how it'll override what I put in from time to time. It's very minor, but I wish the app wouldn't do that.

I have the spectra s1, Willow, and baby Buddha. All for baby 1. Now on baby 2. Love love love the baby Buddha. Exclusively use it. I have the legendairy milk collection cups. Also love using a manual pump for quick lil pumps here and there. Absolute life saver. Shouting out the boon trove and haakaa as well!

Elvis if you are static but you won’t be. Willow all the way! I’m a fellow nurse too & have invested in the willow for when I return to work. Good Luck

Elvie is not worth the price, and I say this as someone who got it completely free from insurance. My sister has a Willow and likes it.
