Tula toddler
The Tula Toddler is a baby carrier designed for children aged 18 months to 4 years, accommodating weights up to 60 pounds. It features a supportive waistband and adjustable straps for comfort during extended wear.
Pros (+)
- Comfortable for extended wear with heavy toddlers
- Supportive waistband helps distribute weight
- Easy to put on and adjust without assistance
Cons (−)
- Fit can be snug for taller toddlers
- Not ideal for very young toddlers adjusting to carriers
- Limited adjustability compared to some competitors
Why parents like it
Many parents appreciate how comfortable the Tula Toddler is, even with larger toddlers. The supportive waistband helps distribute weight evenly, making it easier to carry kids for longer periods.
Common complaints
A few parents find that the fit can be too tight for taller toddlers, which may limit usability as they grow. Additionally, some mention that it may not be the best option for very young toddlers who are still adjusting to being carried.
Parents with toddlers who enjoy being carried and need a supportive option for longer outings. The tradeoff is that it may not fit all body types perfectly, especially for taller children.
The Tula Toddler is a solid option for parents looking for comfort and support, though taller kids might find it a bit snug.

Thread: "Do y’all still baby wear your toddlers?"
I back carry my three year old in a toddler Tula. They make a bigger size too. She’s a very small kid though and I do think you have to be careful not to overdo it if you have any joint pain or anything like that.

Yes. Tula toddler carrier! It’s been so helpful. I have a 6mo and 2.5 year old. I do a lot of tandem carrying.

I started with the ergo 360 but found it hard to adjust and hot. I then bought an Artipoppe but I had to return it because it did not work for my big/tall baby. I then tried a Tula toddler carrier and I love it. The fabric is linen so not too hot and she seems really comfortable in it.

For longer periods of carrying a structured carrier is probably the best balance of easy + comfy - you can look at brands like LennyLamb (Lenny Preschool) or Tula (Toddler version) which are both easy to get in Australia. But if you're looking for something that might bridge the gap between arm carrying and a full buckle (which do take longer to get on, are bulkier etc) I would consider a toddler friendly ring sling. They're better at weight distribution than a Wildride or similar Amazon products, and also a truly hands-free carry - but not as bulky or time-consuming as a full buckle.

I don’t have H&P and Beco but I have Tula toddler and my nearly 3 yo (37 inch and 30 lbs) feels weightless in it. The panel is wide enough so her thighs are supported almost knee to knee and high on her back. I use it for front and back carry and could not be more happy with it. Edit: my nearly 5 year old ( 38 lbs and 41.5”) also fits comfortably in it! For reference kids are in 3T and 4/5T pants
Thread: "Artipoppe toddler carrier"
Most toddler carriers are enormous and won’t fit an average size kiddo until they’re 2. If your kiddo is in high height percentiles or is off the chart for height you still won’t be able to use this until after they turn 1. My 95th height percentile kiddo barely fit into a Tula Toddler at 18 months. You’re going to need to stash this for months, if not two years. Don’t use it now, your baby can easily suffocate in a carrier this size.

In my experience Beco Toddler fits a bit bigger than Tula Toddler. Given the long legs of your kiddo I'd pick Beco over Tula. Although both a solid carriers
Thread: "Talk to me about onbuhimos and toddlers!"
We had a SB onbuhimo (with leather) and it was my favourite carrier! We used it for both of my daughters until they were about 2 years old, and 30ish pounds. I will say that by the time they got to that weight my shoulders were starting to kill me every time I wore them. I didn’t really see how a different onbuhimo would’ve helped my shoulders. So we ended up buying a Tula Toddler since I needed a waist band for support. It truly is sooooo much more comfortable having that extra support for them. And the carrier is still quite compact and it comes in lots of cute patterns. I’m not sure how the other brands with onbuhimos compare in terms of support though! Just thought I’d share our experience and what worked for us.

I have a Toddler Tula and my 7 year old still fits in it, he's just over 40lbs. Granted, he's all legs and it looks kinda funny but it's really truly stood the test of time. I got it when he was 2.

I use a Tula toddler with my 2.5yr old. She still loves being in a carrier and I find it extremely comfortable and easy to get on unassisted, plus having her on my back allows me to have both of my hands free.

I have a Tula Toddler and a LennyLamb WrapTai Toddler. I like both. The Tula toddler is huge. My toddler is 44lbs and 40inches tall and has plenty of room to grow, but the Wrap Tai is too small now.
Thread: "What's the big deal with the Happy Baby Carrier?"
I have a HBC that I think is just ok. I have large babies and I am petite with a short torso, so the HBC was great for when I had a 9-10lb newborn. I liked that it requires minimal adjustment to get a comfortable fit. I also like that it's linen and breathable so I didn't sweat to death carrying my little furnace baby. After he was crawling and then walking and hit 20-25lb, the HBC was not supportive enough. I switched to a Tula Toddler. I do have a HBC toddler and it's nice for really fast carries (like, I just need 10 mins to finish dinner.) But my guy is 30+ lb now and even in a back carry, I need the extra structure for support.

I have worn my 5.75 year old, 60lb kid a few times in our toddler tula recently and it was still good. Use it often with our 2 year old 30 pounder
Thread: "Toddler carrier recommendations!"
I think both could be great. I wear my 36+ pound 1 year old in the Tula Toddler a ton! It’s very supportive. Love bigger baby/toddler/kid wearing.
Thread: "Just buy the expensive baby carrier"
Yes, yes and yes to both. The two best purchases that i made of baby things were my Tula explorer and Tushbaby. I used my tula until my baby was too tall to fit in it. I got the tula toddler. The tushbaby I use daily. I don't pack a diaper bag or take a purse, everything fits in the tushbaby. It's my utility belt, I don't leave home without it. Toddler is almost 3 and we've used it since she was 1.5. Get the good carriers. If anyone is in LA there is a great baby wearing group that has monthly free mertips were you can talk to a baby wearing professional, try different baby carriers from their baby carrier library abcd the will teach you how to safely baby wear.

I loved my Tula Toddler. It was super comfortable and I used it until kiddo was 4. A few months ago I got the Kid Lark and I'd highly recommend it. It fits my bigger kid much better and the apron style cuts down on a lot of bulk. This is great for a preschooler for whom you may not need it - the extra padding on the Tula Toddler pushed me over the edge for not keeping in my backpack all the time. The Kid Lark takes up so much less space that I'm more likely to have/use it.
Thread: "Can someone please talk me out of getting an onbuhimo?"
I usually carry with wraps or my meh dai, but my husband said he wanted to get into wearing our children too, but he can’t use a wrap due to being hyper mobile in his hands and getting cramps when attempting wrapping. He wanted a carrier with a waistband. But I stumbled on a secondhand onbuhimo that was a custom carrier for only €40. So I bought it. And then got my husband a secondhand tula toddler. The onbuhimo has very soon become a favourite, basically replacing my meh dai for a quick carry when we are out and about. My husband still does not wear our children much as he prefers a stroller. If I ever come across an affordable Lenny Lamb toddler I will probably switch the Tula out for that as from what I’ve seen that is a much more comfortable carrier with a slightly higher weight limit.
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
Can I ask why? I have an Ergobaby omni and love it, but considering buying a Tula toddler, because the seat width is already getting too narrow at 1 y.o.
Thread: "Best toddler carriers?"
imo toddler tula is a great bet. I think for a toddler, and onbuhimo could be pretty hard on your back/shoulders after a while. The waist belt will help relieve some of that weight. (comparing it to backpacking with a sport backpack vs a regular backpack as my LO is only 11mo)
Thread: "What’s the best toddler carrier in Aus?"
I bought a Tula toddler carrier and it is great. 😌
Thread: "Toddler Tula"
We just started putting our 4 year old back in the toddler carrier. He was getting a little jealous of his new brother being carried all the time. The tulas are fantastic!
Thread: "Toddler Tula"
I love my tula toddler after having outgrown the ftg! Fit and comfort is very very similar.
Thread: "Toddler Tula"
Babe is 26 pounds and almost 33 inches. I’d say she’s fitting in here perfectly with room to grow! This is our first Tula - we have a toddler Kinderpack which is a bit more adjustable, if you’re looking for that :)
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
Imo, it's more simple, light, and pretty. I feel like we're wearing a cute accessory and not so much a utilitarian device. Eta, and the FTG is at least as comfortable and supportive.

I will carry my kid in some kind of carrier whenever he wants to be carried lol I may invest in a toddler Tula eventually but my 13 month old fits in my Ergobaby til 45 lbs!

Thanks everyone!! Just ordered the Tula Toddler based on all these comments and I am so excited! My back is aching from our walk today 😅
Thread: "Best toddler carriers?"
I just got a toddler Tula I’m excited to try with my 2 and 4 year olds. I had an onbuhimo when I was pregnant with the second and the first was two and didn’t love it and then got lift restriction so I sold it. I think my issue is my oldest is tall for his age and I’m short of it carrying “high” didn’t work for us. I have been using a Sakura Bloom Scout but now that the “baby” will fit toddler I got that. The onbuhimo would probably work with my youngest sine he’s a little teapot but my Scout or Boba Air work fine for him so I don’t miss it.

Height is going to be more important to look at than weight. Most toddler carriers start fitting well when the child is solidly in 2T pants for length. We use a toddler Tula regularly (like several times a week) for our 22mo and it’s great. Super comfortable for long days and not too difficult to get her up and down. If we leave it clipped around our waists it’s not really annoying when it’s hanging down our back between ups
Thread: "Best toddler carriers?"
I'm looking at the Tula toddler ones right now! He's about 31.5" now and not quite in 2T pants yet - he's slender like my husband, we struggle with waistbands that fit. But at these price points, I'd hate to buy a smaller one now and then a bigger one again in a few months. Are they relatively easy to get on/off your back when alone? I'm solo with him a few nights of the week, so I can definitely imagine a circumstance where I need to cook, he gets upset, and no one else is around to take over or help me get him in the carrier. Maybe the easiest solution for everyone is to just not cook! Wouldn't that be great!

I have an older kiddo and love our Tula Toddler! It’s very frequently recommended in the FB “hiking/outdoors with kids” groups I’m in.
Thread: "Toddler carrier recommendations!"
Just got the Tula toddler for my last trip. He was maybe 25ish lbs 22months at the time and it was great. Back carried a lot and front carry naps on the go, glad I got it.
Thread: "Toddler Tula"
Back carriers are so much more comfy for you when they are this size. I do the hip scoot with tula. For looks good
Thread: "Artipoppe for toddler?"
Thank you! Don't know why I never thought of this but it seems like it will be very helpful. I will try it out and hopefully get more opportunities to wear the Cairis with this technique. That said, will probably keep the Toddler Tula I just ordered as well since it's mesh and we are flying to a hot country - always worried about baby overheating with extended carries in the thicker fabrics.
Thread: "Do y’all still baby wear your toddlers?"
I also back carry my toddler in a Tula, but mostly when we’re out of the house. She’s 33 pounds and quite tall. When she outgrew the baby bjorn, I spent way too long carrying her on my arm. Not my hip, my arm! She hates being on my hip and instead perches her little behind right on my forearm, which I hold perpendicular to my body. That was the only way she was happy! Anyway, after an exhausting trip to Disney where I carried her that way all day for five days in a row, I decided to get a Tula. It took some practice and a few tearful practice sessions for her to get used to it, but now she loves it! She says I’m her horse!
Thread: "Best toddler carriers?"
Ahh gotcha, I sized up way too early on a Toddler Tula so I always try to share that link with people. But if he's in 2T pants that's great, baby pants are so stretchy my 3 yr old can wear like 5 different sizes at once haha I wore my onbuhimo for about 30 min at a time without problem, but longer than that I would get sore. Not a bad option, because at that age my guy usually just wanted some snuggles and then would be happy to get down and play. But if we were going on a hike or around the Zoo and I needed him in longer, the Tula was much more comfortable.
