Thread: "Ladies what breast pump do you recommend??"

I tried a few and honestly the only one I can swear by is the spectra S1+. Pricey but worth the investment. I didn’t realise how badly other pumps were affecting my supply until I switched to spectra, it made a significant difference and it didn’t leave me with dry cracked nipples like other pumps did. I also wasn’t stuck to the power outlet while using it because you can charge the battery and then it’s portable! Everyone has different favourite pumps though. We’re not one-size-fits-all. There’ll be ladies who hated the spectra.

Definitely still the Spectra, and I see the 1 more often recommended. It’s also the one I have. The differences between it and the 2 were not enough to justify the price for the 2

Thread: "Help me pick a breast pump!"

I ultimately ended up trying a few pumps! I started with the spectra 1, and it was a workhorse for sure. If you want maximum output, that or another medical-grade wall pump is gonna be best. Next I ended up buying a wearable, the Willow Go, because we were traveling for the holidays and I needed something more mobile. I loved the wearable but there were a few pitfalls — you have to keep buying new parts for it because it wears out. This is true of all pumps technically, but I felt like the Willow Go went through more. Also, the output is just not as good. It was enough for me, but we also combo fed and I was still breastfeeding as well. I also had one of the batteries crap out on me which was super annoying. Pitfalls aside, it was still my preferred pump. Being hooked up to the wall was frustrating and made me feel insane. Finally, I bought a little hand pump and was honestly super impressed. It was most handy for pump + dump situations, where I just needed to express some milk for comfort, but it was really quick and effective. I feel for you — it's such a hard question to try and figure out as a first-time parent! You just won't know what you need until you're doing it. That being said, I think if you feel like you'll hate the wall pump and really want a wearable, go with your gut. You'll make it work. And, little hand pumps are like 20 bucks if you need something to help empty out. Good luck!

I also have spectra s1 as my main pump to use at home. I have mom cozy m5 as my portable pump. I highly recommend spectra s1

      Thread: "Best breast pumps?"

I had a Spectra 1 because I heard it was best at getting the most milk, but I kind of wish I had gotten a wearable pump. I stopped pumping after the first month because I kept missing pumping times because I needed to be holding/caring for my baby- I couldn’t stand sitting there while she screamed for 20 minutes as I pumped. I could have bought a wearable pump out of pocket at that point, but was afraid I’d be spending a lot of my pocket money for a second pump that I still wouldn’t be successful with, so I didn’t risk it. I wish I had used my insurance for a wearable pump to start with instead of the spectra (it wouldn’t have paid the full cost but it would have been a discount).

How have you found the V1? I'm torn between getting M5 or V1 as my go-to secondary pump with the spectra S1 as my primary. Nothing has been able to compare to the spectra S1 for me...

I’ve used the willow Go, motif duo portable, and spectra 1. Hands down get the spectra. I didn’t realize how weak the willow pump was and how much I didn’t like how slow the motif was until I got the spectra from my insurance and it’s sooo much better and customizable also it has a little light if you want to use it for middle of the night pumps. I shlep it to and from work now and it’s not that bad they even make backpacks specifically for it on Amazon.

In the US, you can get it for like $20 through insurance. I got mine through aeroflow, and they send reminders when I'm due for free replacement parts, including nursing pads and storage bags. Mine did fail after 3 months of use, but I learned you're not supposed to leave it plugged in to charge for more than 4 hours, and they sent me a replacement for free. Same with the S2. Apparently, it can fry your motor.

      Thread: "Momcozy SUCKS"

Did you not get a pump through your insurance? I bought a momcozy V1 pro as a secondary but I got my spectra 1 through insurance and they send me free replacement parts monthly. All US insurances are required to have some form of breast pump coverage because it’s classified as a necessity for the baby

Put a purse strap through the Spectra 1 handle and it makes it more portable. And make sure your lactation consultant measures your nipples for proper flange size.
