Thread: "Super easy soft structured carrier for newborn?"
Except for a ring sling for a buckle carrier for an itty bitty one you can’t get too much simpler than the Embrace. Because their airways are so tiny and they don’t have the core/torso strength to maintain their airway it’s difficult to find something with “less steps” that is also going to be safe enough to hold them securely. Babywearing is a skill and it does get better (and faster) the more you practice. My husband STRUGGLED with the Oscha Bairn (buckle carrier like the Embracd) over and over, but he practiced daily and now he’s so quick to throw it on and get our 8 month old up anywhere and everywhere, like it’s nearly muscle memory to him.
Thread: "Deinfluence me with Artipoppe and influence me with the right one"
A lot of the people from my antenatal classes have artipoppes and love them. I have an ergo baby Omni 360, a ring sling and an oscha bairn though only the bairn was new but in the end I have spent almost as much money. I use the bairn over the ergo baby most of the time. It packs down much smaller and doesn't get too hot. I think my baby also likes the fabric more. It's a bit fidflier to get comfortable and the smaller waistband means it's a bit less supportive for long walks. One thing I would say if you are traveling a lot is I think the waterfall style waistbands can be uncomfortable for sitting down for lots of people. If you want to be influenced into something oscha is quite good at making t seem glam. Integra also has a massive range of cool looking fabrics.
Thread: "Overwhelmed With Carrier Options and Plus Size"
Tula is waterfall style. As are other popular carriers like Ergo, Artipoppe, LennyLamb, Mabe, Wildbird, and Lillebaby. They are all characterized by a stiff waistband that buckles against your waist and then the baby's butt "waterfalls" over it. The stiffness of the waistband adds support but can also put a lot of pressure against your pelvic floor and dig weirdly into random fat rolls I've found. And not all waterfall waist bands are the same. I can wear Tula no problem but LennyLamb hurts. Apron carriers have a thinner unpadded waist band where it creates a little hammock the baby sits in. They aren't quite as supportive but I find them more comfortable personally. Popular ones of these are Happy Baby OG, Hope & Plum Lark, Sakura Bloom Scout, Oscha Bairn, and Integra Solar.
Thread: "Mabé, Tula, or Momcozy?"
It is a lot of hype 😂 some people love it and the basic quality is fine but there are carriers that are just as good (or better) someone did a good summary in another comment about the referral program. Plus for me no chest strap for a back carry is really limiting! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGJ5fVNxIdR/?igsh=NjFzaG10eDhlOXRq Hope and plum lark, integra, oscha bairn are all great apron style cross back carriers! (None of these are newborn carriers though. Well neither is artipoppe but they like to pretend it is.) If you are new to babywearing I would follow the creator I linked and letstalkbabywearing. I also personally love the hope and plum social media presence but they are one particular brand.
Thread: "Best carrier for someone with lower back pain?"
The artipoppe is an average carrier, you can find better support for less money (Lennylamb Light, Tula Free to Grow, Oscha Bairn, Didymos Fix, etc. if you want a full buckle, they all allow for back carrying as well once baby sits unassisted) I agree about the fit check and if you truly want something super supportive you want to look into woven wraps or at least half-buckle if the wraps intimidate you.
Thread: "Thoughts on the new Solly Soft Carrier?"
That is so true. And my Oscha bairn was $60 cheaper and can be work X back or H back and made from woven organic cotton!
Thread: "I’m honestly overwhelmed.. what’s the best baby carrier you’ve actually used?"
As someone who takes twice as long as a normal person to learn new things…. I tried the Lark and honestly hated it. I got the happy baby OG and it was a game changer for me. So easy and comfortable. The Tula FTG is good too, just bulkier. Can find those pretty cheap used. I think it really just depends on if you like H or X back. it took me 3 months to learn a stretchy wrap bc I just suck at learning hands on things, so these carriers I think are the easiest. If you do go with the Lark, I would look at the Oscha Bairn bc I think it can be H or X back. Kinderback is pretty similiar to Tula FTG but more expensive and ugly. Omni 360 is good, just bulkier. Feel free to message me if you have questions. I’m no expert but I have tried a lot of carriers.
Thread: "Toddler Tula"
That looks gorgeous and perfect for cuddles! I grabbed a secondhand Tula woven conversion in the standard size for me and my small 16mo last week and I LOVE it. After basically having sworn off sscs! I’m debating between a Tula woven conversion in the toddler size, the LennyLight, and the Oscha Bairn in the toddler size whenever we need to size up (which will be soon, I think).
Thread: "Just buy the expensive baby carrier"
I love my oscha bairn! Or an onbuhimo would be good!
Thread: "Deinfluence me with Artipoppe and influence me with the right one"
The Artipoppe is definitely not the best carrier out there but it is very good looking and it’s comfortable. It’s very easy to put on and adjust. I also have a Tula FTG and an Oscha bairn but I pick the Artipoppe up 8/10 times to go out. I have a cotton leopard print one and the fabric is gorgeous, super soft and both thick and breathable. For your needs I think cotton or linen would work. Because it is soft I find you can actually pack it down reasonably small. If you’re wearing it to travel then I assume you’ll be using it most of the time so that probably doesn’t really matter anyway. My baby was 12lbs 9oz at 3 months and is very long. She just started to fit well at 3.5 months. I’d say just buy one. If you try it on and don’t like it then you can return. Otherwise they hold their value very well (keep the box, leaflet and dust bag) so you can always resell at not much of a loss if you change your mind down the line.
Thread: "Lark vs happy baby OG"
The H-back is not hard to buckle by yourself as long as the shoulder straps are loose. You always want those to be loose when you need to reach for the back buckle. I think X-back is more difficult because I have to wrap my arm around baby to reach the buckle on either side of the panel. I have the happy baby og and the Oscha bairn. The bairn can we worn either X-back or h-back with the addition of a webbing buckle. I wear it H-back because it's easier for me to put on, and I struggle with getting a good fit on my shoulders while X-back. I feel like I am squeezing baby tightly with my arms when I use it x-back and she fusses so hard! No problems H-back. Also, the happy baby and Bairn have a hood. The Lark doesn't have a hood and that was a deal breaker for me! When I was first looking for carriers, I wanted the Lark so bad, but I couldn't justify the price point, so I was looking around on buy sell trade groups. Someone posted a happy baby for trade for a Lark, and I had not heard of the happy baby, so I looked into them. I think 2 days later I bought the happy baby! I still want to try a Lark because of FOMO but I will resist! I'm totally pleased with the HB and the Bairn. Ok, now that you're sold on the HB, your next step is to look at suck pads and winter carrier covers! Ugh the babywearing buying never ends haha!
Thread: "Controversial but I actually like the Baby Bjorn Harmony"
Have you tried LennyLamb, Oscha, or Kinderpack? Oscha has the Bairn(full buckle) and the Cairis(half buckle) that are exceptionally comfortable. I would recommend you try LittleZenOne’s try before you buy program where you can test out different carriers. There’s really no better way to find a carrier that works for you than trying them on and using them.
