      Thread: "Medela or Spectra?"

Hi, I only have the S2 of these two pumps but from my own research S2 works better for most people and is more practical bc you can actually see the timer, as well as expression and vacuum settings. Spectra seems to have the highest success rate for most people that i read on subs. But also consider checking out r/exclusivelypumping and r/exclusivepumping subs— There’s an old sub with many previous posts you can look at and one just created bc the sub needed a new mod. Even if you’re not going to be exclusively pumping i find it helpful bc the mamas with the most pumping experience are over there. I personally would get an S2 but also get a Medela hand pump. I know some people are not a fan of the manual pump but it’s been so helpful for me! i’ve seen greater output lately and my hands don’t even hurt! It’s also affordable so if you end up not liking it, it’s not a major loss. That’s just my two cents though. Hope this helps!

Thread: "First time mom! What do people find to be the best breast pump?"

every body will respond differently to each pump! i really like my spectra. others have sworn to me that the medela hand pump works best, or the baby bhudda due to its strong suction. i struggle with low supply so i initially thought it was a pump issue and i purchased both - i get pretty much *nothing* when i use either. the baby bhudda could probably suck my nipples off its so strong, but can’t get any milk worth a damn. i think the vibration of the spectra works best for me and seems to be a thing amongst some women.

Thread: "What are the best Wearable pumps?!"

Love my medela pump in style. SO easy to clean. My momcozy s9 drove me absolutely mad washing all the parts. It was very convenient I will say but other than that it wasn’t great. It actually made my nipples hurt. Ever since using the medela I’ve had 0 pain. I also love my medela hand pump. She’s secretly my fav. So easy, so quick. Feels so good to just pop it in your bag if you’re going somewhere and just want to make sure you can get a little out. It also fits dr browns bottles perfectly so on the go I pump right into the bottle and then put the cap and nipple on and feed my baby.

Thread: "Anyone else renting hospital grade Medela Symphony pump?"

I'm just hoping it's a first pump issue and that I'll see greater results with the symphony over time. I really need to build my supply up again. Though I am also breastfeeding and supplementing with formula

I like my medela symphony or the medela hand pump. I got the symphony off ebay like new (had only 700hrs of use).

Thread: "Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly?"

I’ve tried the spectra, the hands free wearable elvie, and the medela hand pump. My insurance covered both the spectra and the elvie 100%. I definitely liked the elvie better than the spectra and I would 1000% recommend getting the medela manual pump in addition to whatever medical grade pump you get. Both of my babies refused to take a bottle, so the need for me to pump now is only when I’m leaving for more than a few hours and need relief. I ended up donating my freezer stash from my first pregnancy due to my child outright refusing bottle. You don’t know if you will need or will use your pump, but it’s so handy to have one before you know for sure. If you’re in the states and insured, your insurance will likely cover 100% of the cost of a medical grade pump.

      Thread: "Best handsfree pump?"

I would echo holding off and just getting a hand pump so you’re not spending money on something you might not want/need/might not suit your requirements. I had to pump to initiate supply as baby was in special care and used the hospital plug in wall pumps (and hired a medela symphony for home). I struggled massively with flange size (pain and bleeding) until I realised I had elastic nipples and needed special flanges. Will never be able to use a wearable as there is just not enough space for how far my nips will stretch! Have a medela solo now as I only pump a few times a week. Hand pump wise I recommend the medela one!

I definitely found I responded best to the symphony! The medela handpump is pretty good too in a pinch! It funny! I tried a pump in style and absolutely hated it. Got next to no output hahaha the symphony was a bit of trial and error for me to figure out what suction worked best too! The morning pump was always the best! In the afternoon, the slacker side would be 18-57mls (and it was usually 2-4oz on the other)

I love my spectra s1. It’s portable and has different settings. I also have the Medela hand pump. It’s so nice and I can bring it with me when I need to pump on the go.

Seconding the medela hand pump! I love how fuss free it feels and being in control of the pump. Also the price point is awesome

As a STM I’m gonna have my Spectra S1, but also a manual Medela hand pump, and a passive pump the Boone Trove. I want to have all on hand because it was such a challenge the 1st time and I only tried one pump.
