Thread: "Best Baby Carrier?"

I volunteer with a lending library and our most popular carriers with our volunteers and patrons are Happy Baby OG, Lenny Lamb Lenny Light, Oscha Cairis and Coorie, Kinderpack, Tula, Soul AseemA, Integra solar, meh dais and half buckles. I’m sure I’m forgetting some because it’s true that what people love varies so much between users. What we volunteers generally don’t like: Lillebaby (only has a narrow and wide setting so a lot of time where it doesn’t fit baby well), ergobaby (not a bad carrier, just most of us find it bulky and much prefer the feel of other carriers), mabe carriers (quality is dubious and they don’t really promote safe Babywearing) artipoppe (this is more because the company is icky and doesn’t promote safe babywearing, not a lot of experience with the carriers) and any carrier that is actually a carry assist but marketing misleads people into thinking it’s handsfree (hippie Joey knockoffs, buckle ring sling types) Other things to note: Apron style carriers are minimal carriers. They tend to be favorites for a lot of people during the first year as they tend to feel better for many people’s pelvic floor. They also are lightweight and pack small. You can also easily sit while wearing baby in them. Waterfall carriers have stiffer waists, can be bulky, and tend to shine after baby is a year. Men tend to prefer waterfall waists. These aren’t true for everyone, as I have definitely worked with people who had the opposite experience. You will have to wear either carrier high on your waist when they are small so that they are close enough to kiss. You will also want to consider your needs. X or H back, ease of switching between wearers, back carry, hip carry, ease of breastfeeding in carrier, dual or one direction adjust. It’s a lot to consider so trying different carriers out is definitely the easiest way. You can also check out theBabywearing.ot and letstalkbabywearing on instagram to see lots of carriers in action and see their reviews.

Thread: "Deinfluence me with Artipoppe and influence me with the right one"

In addition to everything everyone else has already said, the Artipoppe might not even fit your baby safely in a month. It doesn't typically start fitting until babies are at least 3 months. Usually more. You can search more here in the subreddit and see plenty of examples of too small of babies not fitting in it. For the same price or less, you can get plenty of better adjustable carriers with better comfort. Personally I love a lennylamb lennylight which is built somewhat similar to an artipoppe but has better adjustability for small babies. Take a look at the automod wiki for more info too!

Thread: "Best baby carrier for newborn?"

Wraps are the most ergonomic and customizable way to carry newborns (can be done from day 1 even with tiny babes). What is it you don’t trust about them? A lot of buckle carriers won’t fit tiny babies and are actual suffocation risks if too big. Lennylamb Light, Didymos, Tula FTG are some that adjust down rather small and fit from around a few weeks old. The Ergobaby Embrace is a buckle carrier for newborns but will stop to fit after a few months. Take a look at the automod safety and automod wiki, they have plenty of useful information.

Thread: "Opinions on the Solly Wrap & Mabe Monarch as "starter" carriers? "

The Mabe is a cheap carrier that is mass produced and white labeled with the Mabe branding. You can find the actual supplier selling them for $18 on Alibaba (you have to buy 300 though so you can’t just buy one lol). It doesn’t have safety elastics, has no warranty, and they won’t repair damage (because they don’t manufacture them so can’t lol). The fabric feels cheap and people are starting to complain about the waistband losing shape permanently after a few months of wear. The price is cheaper than competitors because it’s a cheap carrier. You can find the exact same one for cheaper on Amazon - the key difference being Mabe has at least done safety testing, which the Amazon ones have not. I highly recommend looking into brands like Happy Baby, Hope & Plum, and Lenny Lamb instead.

Thread: "Help! Baby Bjorn Mini vs Free Carrier"

That’s pretty much a greatest hits list of terrible baby carriers (sorry!!). In general there is a big quality and fit difference between a $50 Amazon carrier and a >$125 carrier from a reputable brand. I would avoid Amazon for purchasing carriers if you can help it, there are a lot of Temu/Shein style cheap carriers and counterfeits of better brands on there. Baby carrier reviews have to be taken with a big grain of salt as a majority of people don’t understand how to wear them, so their review ends up being “baby strapped to body= 5 stars.” Baby Bjorn carriers for the most part aren’t good, but they have brand name recognition. If you want a basic structured carrier I would look into Tula’s Free to Grow or an Ergo Omni 360 (or one of their many similar carriers). LennyLamb makes a variety of nice carriers that aren’t crazy expensive, their “Lenny Light” carrier is nice and will grow with baby. You want a carrier that has an adjustable back panel, and wide seat that adjusts so it grows with baby and offers continuous knee-to-knee support. ETA: there are also a ton of great carriers available secondhand! Ergobaby and Tula both sell for ~$50 used, I would totally go that route if you’re wanting to save money.

Just to add [this visual](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJMwfgWMwA7) of the Lenny light! If you are in North America and already have the omni you could do the try before you buy program from little zen one and see what works for you! You are getting great suggestions! I don’t think I could pick one, I have a problem and I love them all 🙈

Thread: "What do you get with the more expensive soft structured carriers?"

Lenny light is a good middle option, super cozy and beautiful and much more padded than the Tula lite so it’s better from longer wears. They range in from from 120-185 depending on fabric I have a $120 one and adore it! https://en.lennylamb.com/shop/by/erp_product_type/lenny_light

Thread: "Seeking newborn carrier for nervous first time dad who needs to be able to use his hands again"

The embrace has plenty of head support if you use it properly! I would also look at the Tula free to grow or the Lenny Light for a longevity. You could also show him a ring sling and see what he thinks, less fidgety than a wrap and appropriate for newborns. You can use the tail for extra head support.

Thread: "Mabé, Tula, or Momcozy?"

Yes LennyLight can be H or X. It's a great carrier. Happy baby is a great apron style carrier for hot climates/the summer. It doesn't provide quite as much back support as my Lenny, but I think the Lenny is going to feel too warm on hot days. Of the 3 op asked about, my inclination is Tula. I tried the Mabe and it was not customizable, not soft and just as expensive as Lenny which is such a better carrier all around.

Thread: "Best backpacks for hiking with baby?"

If you're not a super serious hiker, you may just want to use a standard SSC (soft structured carrier) and small crossbody. I'm also not a super serious hiker but have had my seasons of longer more frequent hikes while babywearing with a toddler, and ended up preferring that set up. I used a Lark, but an Ergo or Tula or LennyLight would work just as well I think.

Thread: "Best, easy carrier for a newborn?"

I loved ergobaby embrace. My baby who is very picky about everything like it too. I loved how soft it was and how it felt wrap like. It was not bulky at all, easy to put on and take off. My baby is now 3 months and 15 pounds. I just upgraded to Lenny light. I like this too for her current size, I prefer ergobaby for younger newborns.

If you’re open to other options I think the Tula Free to Grow or LennyLamb lennylight are great if you want something structured for that age. You can find a Tula FTG pretty easily on FB marketplace, or either one on Facebook BST groups.

Thread: "Experiences with Tula carriers"

I have the Tula ftg. I liked it a lot. I decided against forward carry as I didn’t think my baby would like it, plus a lot of our carrier use is/was for getting to sleep for naps/bedtime. The ftg is easy to put on (even managed it while kiddo was asleep on me once!) and it got daily use until like 14mo when he had outgrown it (large baby). I exclusively used it for front carry as I couldn’t manage to get baby into back carry on my own. Now that kiddo is too big for the ftg I’ve switched to a Lenny lamb preschooler and I’ve really been liking that even more. IIRC the Lenny lamb upgrade or light look like they have useful features like a magnetic chest strap so they could be worth a look. I might even replace the ftg with the LL light or LL upgrade to use from birth with my next baby (if partner doesn’t go on about the fact that we’ve used 4 different carriers now 😂)

Best dupe for quality and craftsmanship is LennyLamb’s LennyLight. For aesthetic dupes, people seem to like WildBird, but anecdotally it is much bulkier.

Almost any non-stretchy carrier is going to need some breaking in to be as comfortable as possible. The only carriers that I can think of that are super comfy out of the box are Lenny lamb but even they benefit from breaking in.

FWIW, I have a Mabe and like it. I use it for front carry and never world facing. The price point is great and it feels high quality to me. I did end up asking for a LennyLight after being influenced by this sub, but I plan on keeping my Mabe as a backup in my husband’s car.

Ditto to both of these! Love the Lark for shorter carries and the LennyLamb light for longer ones or carrier naps. Both are beautiful, really comfortable and easy to get on and off by myself. I tried the Tula and the Happy Baby OG and wasn’t a big fan of the H-back (among other things) on them.

10000% agree with utilizing Little Zen Ones try before you buy program. I ended up loving a ring sling for the newborn stage and a Lenny Lamb Lennylight as babe grew a bit. Oh, a d I eventually fell in love with woven wraps. But it was so nice to be able to try these carries before putting actual money into something I might dislike.
