Thread: "Please help me pick a meh dai!"
A meh dai is super comfortable, especially for back carry. I did not find that I needed to work to build up the muscles to use it. The waistband does help distribute the weight and you can also do a fancy finish with the shoulder straps to distribute the weight further (I like a tied Tibetan finish). I have a Lenny Lamb wrap tai but I think pretty much any meh dai or half buckle would be really comfortable in a similar way. Other brands that make a meh dai and/or half buckle including didymos, Oscha, hope and plum, and stokke. Mama and Roo and Little Zen One are online retailers that sell some of these kinds of carriers in the US. Happy baby doesn't make a meh dai, I don't think, so presumably you're talking about their onbuhimo since you mention those in your post too. Those are not as comfortable as a meh dai for long wear. They do take more muscles but after using the meh dai I found that it wasn't difficult. They are really good for ups and downs but I didn't use one until my kiddo was almost 2.
Thread: "Meh Dai Brands?"
I have a Lenny Lamb wrap tai and LOVE it. So comfortable. Quickly becoming my new favorite carrier, especially after learning I can make it into an onbuhimo! Very interested in the DidyKlick by Didymos as well. Best of luck on your search!
Thread: "Anyone know of a solution for back pain while wearing?"
I had a lot of lower back pain when I tried the popular baby carriers that it seemed everyone recommended. The ones I tried were: Ergo Original, Ergo Embrace, Ergo Omni, Beco Gemini, and the TushBaby. What all of these have in common is a thick belt that you clip around your waist… The winner for me was a meh dai. I tried the DidyTai first but found the Lenny Lamb Wrap Tai and Hope & Plum meh dai also comfy. I think this style works because you distribute the weight over more of your body. Since then I have also tried a onbuhimo (neither me nor my toddler enjoyed) and a woven. The woven is super comfy! I also tried a ring sling in the early days and that worked decently well but my baby didn’t love it. So I’d recommend trying a meh dai, woven, or ring sling. I joined the Little Zen One program to try the Lenny Lamb Wraptai because I had wasted sooo much money on carriers that didn’t work. Definitely worth it if you live in the US or CA!
Thread: "Does it exist? Light carrier for summer heat but also has good lumbar support."
For summer I love a cotton half buckle, meh Dai or woven wrap. The DidyKlick 4 U, Oscha Caris, DidyTai or Lenny lamb wrap tai are excellent! I would avoid any synthetic mesh and go for natural fibers like cotton, linen, hemp and silk.

Yeah when I tried the cotton in store it was night and day difference.

With woven wraps, many carries you can do only have 1 pass over the child, not 3 like you need in the stretchy wraps to be safe. So there's that. However, I do still think its much hotter. I second the comment about meh dais. Much cooler and if you get one with wide straps like a lenny lamb Wrap Tai, you have a good weight distribution. With a heavy kiddo (mine is 96th percentile so I'm with you) it works well, but make sure you get a brand that has a wide enough back panel, and tall enough. I have a Meh Dai from the Canadian brand Moa Po (that doesn't seem to exist anymore? But I bought it used) that does not make it knee to knee with my kiddo and she is only 5 months. So definitely look into the size. I think the lenny lamb one looks good, but I haven't tried it (because $ and I try to find second hand stuff only). But you can do hip and back carries with them as well! Good luck, let me know in the future if you end up finding something you love!
