Thread: "F the cult-like following of certain carrier brands (Happy Baby)"
Hey so I have a happy baby carrier that didn’t work for me! I bought it on their website in August and I just couldn’t get to to be comfy no matter. I wore it probably once before going back to my ergo360. You’re welcome to have it - I’ll post it to you. It’s the original baby carrier in Flax (linen)
Thread: "F the cult-like following of certain carrier brands (Happy Baby)"
So happy that you were able to do this for OP! I also found a Happy Baby carrier by posting a joke about trying to get me hands on one a couple of years ago. After we were done with it I passed it on to a friend for free. Thanks babywearing community for keeping the good vibes going!
Thread: "Best Baby Carrier?"
I volunteer with a lending library and our most popular carriers with our volunteers and patrons are Happy Baby OG, Lenny Lamb Lenny Light, Oscha Cairis and Coorie, Kinderpack, Tula, Soul AseemA, Integra solar, meh dais and half buckles. I’m sure I’m forgetting some because it’s true that what people love varies so much between users. What we volunteers generally don’t like: Lillebaby (only has a narrow and wide setting so a lot of time where it doesn’t fit baby well), ergobaby (not a bad carrier, just most of us find it bulky and much prefer the feel of other carriers), mabe carriers (quality is dubious and they don’t really promote safe Babywearing) artipoppe (this is more because the company is icky and doesn’t promote safe babywearing, not a lot of experience with the carriers) and any carrier that is actually a carry assist but marketing misleads people into thinking it’s handsfree (hippie Joey knockoffs, buckle ring sling types) Other things to note: Apron style carriers are minimal carriers. They tend to be favorites for a lot of people during the first year as they tend to feel better for many people’s pelvic floor. They also are lightweight and pack small. You can also easily sit while wearing baby in them. Waterfall carriers have stiffer waists, can be bulky, and tend to shine after baby is a year. Men tend to prefer waterfall waists. These aren’t true for everyone, as I have definitely worked with people who had the opposite experience. You will have to wear either carrier high on your waist when they are small so that they are close enough to kiss. You will also want to consider your needs. X or H back, ease of switching between wearers, back carry, hip carry, ease of breastfeeding in carrier, dual or one direction adjust. It’s a lot to consider so trying different carriers out is definitely the easiest way. You can also check out theBabywearing.ot and letstalkbabywearing on instagram to see lots of carriers in action and see their reviews.
Thread: "Artipoppe Reviews"
How old/how big is your baby? Generally you want less (no) padding and less bulk if you want to stay cooler. Minimalistic apron style carriers and ring slings are much better options. Artipoppe has one of the largest/stiffest waistbands available. Integra’s Solar (or one of their other fabrics), Happy Baby’s OG, Sakura Bloom’s Scout, and Hope & Plum’s Lark are all going to much lighter than a zeitgeist. Tons of brands sell ring slings— Hope & Plum, Nalakai, LennyLamb, Wildbird, Tula, Oscha, Didymos, etc, etc. ETA: Artipoppe does *not* safely fit newborns, despite advertising that they do. The panel is too wide and too tall, it’s a suffocation hazard. Most babies start fitting this carrier around 3 months (possibly longer if your baby is petite).
Thread: "What's the big deal with the Happy Baby Carrier?"
We have a happy baby - I paid $180 for a used twice one on the fb group. I love it - extremely easy to use, lighter than any others we tried, my husband (over 6 feet) and I (5ft 2) can both use it, and it’s comfy for my little guy. All of this to say it is worth it, but people can get a little nutty for them. Before our HBC, we had a Lillebaby all seasons that I hated, and a Moby wrap I also hated. Hated the Lille because there were so many things to adjust/touch/move that I gave up. Hated the Moby because it never felt secure. I probably would’ve been happy with any apron style carrier, the Happy was just the first and last I tried! Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any questions if you have any specifics!

Thread: "I’m honestly overwhelmed.. what’s the best baby carrier you’ve actually used?"
Happy baby OG for me. It’s minimal looking, easy to put on, and baby likes it. But my husband likes the ergo Omni 360, which I absolutely hate. Carriers are super personal. Is there a try on service or carrier library you could use to test some out?
Thread: "What’s Your Holy Grail Carrier for Babies?"
Happy baby OG no question. I’ve carried my kids YEARS in that thing.
Thread: "How did you choose a baby carrier/wrap?"
Id break it down into categories to make things more digestible Type, price, aesthetic are the ones I sort through. For newborn days I absolutely loved Solly Baby- my husband used it too. I loved how thin it was especially for those summertime hot days Consider what type of activities you’d want to be doing with them in. To start we only had the solly baby wrap and a soft structured carrier (happy baby OG) as she got older and I started realizing what I was using baby wearing for and her weight etc I started purchasing more- adventured to ring slings them mei dais and now onbuhimos. I always suggest starting with a soft wrap just bc it would for sure fit your newborn vs some carriers you cant get a safe newborn fit out of! I’d avoid baby bjorn as its notorious for not fitting in the proper deep M seat. Congratulations!
Thread: "Lark vs happy baby OG"
I wrote up [this comparison](https://www.reddit.com/r/babywearing/s/FmZxiYEANS) a while ago that hopefully can help give you some ideas of the similarities and differences and help you make a decision. You really can’t go wrong with either option. Both are apron style and the biggest difference between the two is the straps. The Happy Baby OG has H-back straps and the Lark has X or cross-back straps. Both have less bulky straps than the Ergobaby so you’ll see an improvement there. The Ergobaby is typically worn H-back, so you are probably familiar with that construction and if you like it, then the Happy Baby will be more similar in that regard. However, if you find you don’t like that strap style, you may prefer the cross-back style of the Lark.
Thread: "Happy Baby Carrier OG vs Baby Bjorn Harmony in Melange Fabric"
Happy baby OG is stellar. I haven’t tried a baby bjorn, but I’d get a HBC with no hesitation. If you want to have the world face option HBC does have one!
Thread: "Opinions on the Solly Wrap & Mabe Monarch as "starter" carriers? "
The Mabe is a cheap carrier that is mass produced and white labeled with the Mabe branding. You can find the actual supplier selling them for $18 on Alibaba (you have to buy 300 though so you can’t just buy one lol). It doesn’t have safety elastics, has no warranty, and they won’t repair damage (because they don’t manufacture them so can’t lol). The fabric feels cheap and people are starting to complain about the waistband losing shape permanently after a few months of wear. The price is cheaper than competitors because it’s a cheap carrier. You can find the exact same one for cheaper on Amazon - the key difference being Mabe has at least done safety testing, which the Amazon ones have not. I highly recommend looking into brands like Happy Baby, Hope & Plum, and Lenny Lamb instead.
Thread: "happy baby original?"
I just got my Happy Baby OG in the mail and I now understand the obsession. I didn’t know of the cult following when I first started researching them, I just heard it was good for baby wearing in Disney. I ordered it straight from the website since they had a color I liked in stock and I didn’t want to deal with the b/s/t group. My baby is a Velcro baby. I’ve used many wraps/carriers in the past and this one is so comfy and I don’t get wicked hot wearing it. I can put it on myself which is a huge selling point for me. It’s much less bulky than my Ergobaby while still providing enough cushioning on the straps to be comfy. I’d definitely recommend one!
Thread: "What’s the best baby carrier you’ve used that actually works for everyday life?"
I personally love happy baby (OG). Tula is good too
Thread: "F the cult-like following of certain carrier brands (Happy Baby)"
Yeah, you're probably right. Production/supply issues are kind of still at an all time high for so many things (we're currently in Europe and lots of things aren't available right now, including randoms like face wash, yogurt, antibiotics) which will definitely drive the bonkers market. I think I want to defend them because I really, really love my OG. We tried a whole slew of carriers and nothing was ever as comfortable and easy to use as the OG and I'm not sure what I would have done without it in certain situations, like flying alone with the baby etc. And we used it A LOT and it has held up really well. *BUT* yeah, that doesn't make the current situation less crazy.
Thread: "What's the big deal with the Happy Baby Carrier?"
I don't have tons of babywearing experience, but I tried a few of my friends carriers and loved the Happy Baby the best. It's so simple and lightweight, and I find it very easy to quickly put on by myself (i.e. for transfers out of the car seat). Baby has always found it comfy from the newborn stage. He's only 3 months now, so maybe we'll switch to something else down the road, but for now, we reach for the HBC every single day. Baby takes most of his naps in it.
Thread: "Does anyone like the WildBird Aerial for front and back, perhaps more than the Happy Baby Original?"
WILDBIRD AERIAL VS. HAPPY BABY ORIGINAL I believe that the WildBird Aerial and the Happy Baby Original appeal to a significantly overlapping customer base, because they both seem like minimalist, non-bulky, and fashionable soft structured carriers suitable for hot weather and with similar prices.Interestingly, I only heard of the Happy Baby Original through the Reddit thread that I linked in the OP, which I found because I was researching the WildBird Aerial out of my interest in buying it in December 2022. That thread gave me a bad impression of the Aerial, and the Aerial—newly launched in September 2022—was out of stock without a stated restocking date anyway, so based on the universally positive reviews of the Happy Baby Original that I saw online, I bought the Happy Baby Original. I think people usually abbreviate it as the Happy Baby OG. To my great surprise, my Happy Baby Original felt stiff, hard, and uncomfortable as soon as I tried it. On the other hand, my WildBird Aerial felt luxurious and tailored to me as soon as I put it on. Expecting that surely people rated the Happy Baby Original so well for reasons that I would eventually discover, I kept using my Happy Baby Original every day for the next four months, until it started giving me lasting back pain. Because my LILLÉbaby Complete All Seasons, which had also always been somewhat uncomfortable, started giving me similar back pain around the same time, I finally realized that the problem with both the Happy Baby Original and the LILLÉbaby Complete All Seasons was that they were too big for me. No matter how many times I tried readjusting them, their waist belts could not stay at my natural waist without digging into me even though I am fairly slim, and largely given where their waist belts fell, their shoulder straps could not land comfortably. They aimed at serving people with longer torsos and wider shoulders than me, and the heavier weight of my baby ultimately revealed this fault. The Happy Baby Original exhibited the further problem of having too little padding, so that once my baby reached about ten months old and a bit over 20 pounds, I could only handle about five minutes of wearing him per carry, up to a few carries a day. Moreover, the Happy Baby Original would hold the baby too low for back carries. The Happy Baby Original has three advantages over the WildBird Aerial. First, because of its simple buckle waist belt and H-straps, the Happy Baby Original is slightly faster to put the baby into, so I can almost always put him in it from when he is lying on the changing table without him rolling over or sitting up to escape. With the Aerial, I sometimes can start wearing him fast enough before he starts rolling away, and sometimes have to put him in the playpen first, then pick him up from there. Second, when my baby has fallen asleep on the nursing pillow on my lap and I am trying to pick him up without waking him up, the Happy Baby Original, thanks to its thinness and H-straps, is easier to put on and disturbs him less. Third, in lacking padding, the Happy Baby Original is more portable, though I should note that I have never felt the need to store any soft structured carrier in a small space like that of a diaper bag. I see all these benefits as inconsequential compared to the massive disadvantages of the Happy Baby Original, particularly in failing to fulfill the essential function of a baby carrier on someone of my body type. Meanwhile, the WildBird Aerial fulfills that essential function superbly, and as a bonus strikes me as much more beautiful in person than the Happy Baby Original. The WildBird Aerial is what I had hoped the Happy Baby Original would be, and I intend to sell my Happy Baby Original to people who might find it suitable, perhaps because they are taller and broader than me. I hope my perspective on the WildBird Aerial, including as compared to the Happy Baby Original, assists you in your decisions about carriers!

Thread: "Best Baby Carrier?"
I think it really depends on personal comfort, and body type, etc. Little Zen one has a try before you buy program, which can be really helpful. You can try a bunch of options and see what fits you best and what is most comfortable for baby. I love my Hope & Plum Lark, and got an artipoppe Zeitgeist with my first daughter, and it has lasted a long time and served me well through two kids, although people have strong opinions about it. People seem to love the happy baby OG, Lenny Lamb, and Tula.
Thread: "What’s your favorite baby carrier?"
My favorite is the Happy Baby Original for flying. Apron style waistband makes it easy to sit, and the design is really simple for quick on/off and easy to tighten/loosen for nursing in it (if you have the shoulder mobility to clip a buckle behind your neck).
Thread: "F the cult-like following of certain carrier brands (Happy Baby)"
I’ve posted there twice in the past 2 weeks - first with a $100 budget (zero offers), then a $150 budget (remember retail is $150-170) and only got 2 offers of ‘play quality’ (stained and fraying) carriers. After paying shipping on top that’d be more than buying new which has shipping included. People are polite, but it’s nonetheless less a horribly greedy/show-offy group. I think the business owners running such a group makes them look really awful personally!

I've tried a half buckle, onbumino, several full buckles, ring slings, wraps, and I use them all depending on the day and my needs! My husband and I have talked about this a lot and we always say if we were going to recommend one to someone who just wants a do it all, it would probably be the happy baby OG. We both use this one and it often just stays in the car. It's. Super lightweight, very simple, can be used for front carry and back carry, and come in lots of colors! Have you looked into Try before you buy on little zen one? Amazing program and you can try what you want before investing! That's how I ended up with so many lol. Personally, I'm a wrap girlie! The learning curve is steeper but they're so comfy and adaptable! Edit to add: happy baby OG is great for hot weather! My hubby runs hot and this one is best.
Thread: "Baby carriers?"
Since I’m only 5’2” I decided to go with a Happy Baby Carrier Original since a lot of other petites said the apron style works better for our frames! I also got 2 Solly baby wraps as another option
Thread: "Please tell me about your happy baby carrier vs a lillebaby type"
I have really liked our happy baby carrier (and my husband loved their onbuhimo), and didn't have trouble buying one from the site so long as I was flexible about color and fine with not having the hot new color that was just released. The one thing I would buy differently was that I originally got a cotton/linen blend one, and I didn't like the texture as much as the full linen (others report the opposite, though, so ymmv). We also had a Lillebaby all seasons, which I had thought I would use more for longer walks and also for forward facing, but my baby hated forward facing and also seemed to get too hot and sweaty in the lillebaby, which wasn't an issue with the linen carrier, so we never used the lillebaby much. This might have been different with a different model with better ventilation, but I think at least some of the issue was the scratchiness of the nylon mesh.

HAPPY BABY IS WORTH IT. I have so many. At this point I basically collect them. I just - I love them. I use them daily - Original. Onbuhimo. Revolution. Toddler. Every style is worth every penny and more. Get yourself an HBC. Do it.
Thread: "Is the ergobaby embrace worth it?"
If you have $40 and an hour of time to waste going to buy one used of Facebook Marketplace, yes, worth it. I also had a 90+ percentile baby and got mine at about week 4 and it didn’t even last until 12 weeks, but I personally found it worth it and was able to sell it for the same price. Otherwise tell your husband (lovingly) to suck it up and learn how to use a ring sling. Alternatively you could look at a structured carrier that is more suited for younger babies like a Lenny Light, Beco 8, or Happy Baby OG that will last longer if you end up not liking the ones you have.
Thread: "Lark vs happy baby OG"
I have both and use them for different things. I very much prefer the comfort of the Lark most days, especially when I'm looking for my baby to nap. It has a bigger panel and the material is so very soft and comfortable right out of the box. The HBC OG is great for when my baby wants to be a bit more actively involved in whatever is happening. He can be arms out and can see more of what is going on. I prefer the x back of the Lark, but the H back is not uncomfortable by any means. Both are really good carriers and far superior to the Ergo Omni 360 that we used with my first. Side note - if you are in the Vancouver area, I am happy to let you try mine on before you buy. It's a big purchase, especially with duties, so a try before you buy might be nice. If you aren't local to me, join the HBC and H&P community groups on Facebook and see if you can find someone local to you that would be willing to let you try! I have found the groups to be so kind and willing to help out.
Thread: "Overwhelmed With Carrier Options and Plus Size"
Tula is waterfall style. As are other popular carriers like Ergo, Artipoppe, LennyLamb, Mabe, Wildbird, and Lillebaby. They are all characterized by a stiff waistband that buckles against your waist and then the baby's butt "waterfalls" over it. The stiffness of the waistband adds support but can also put a lot of pressure against your pelvic floor and dig weirdly into random fat rolls I've found. And not all waterfall waist bands are the same. I can wear Tula no problem but LennyLamb hurts. Apron carriers have a thinner unpadded waist band where it creates a little hammock the baby sits in. They aren't quite as supportive but I find them more comfortable personally. Popular ones of these are Happy Baby OG, Hope & Plum Lark, Sakura Bloom Scout, Oscha Bairn, and Integra Solar.
Thread: "Ergobaby va Baby bjorn"
Certified babywearing consultant here. The ergobaby Omni 360 has an adjustable seat which is what you want with a carrier. The baby Bjorn Mini is an older style carrier with a narrow seat and at this point your baby has actually likely outgrown the width of it. You really want baby to have support from knee to knee and have the carrier holding them so that their knees are higher than their bum in a spread squat position all the way until a year old. After a year its okay if the support isn't quite knee to knee. I'd actually add in a few other recommendations which many parents tend to enjoy instead of either of the ones you've listed. Lennylamb lennylight, tula free to grow, tula standard, Happy baby original, and once baby is a little older the hope and plum lark. Check out r/babywearing for lots more info on safety and picking carriers. 😊

Yeah, I found baby carrying with a newborn was a “mostly” hands free experience, but not totally. Stretchy wraps got me closer to that since you can tuck baby’s head in and position them to make sure they’re breathing safely. Once my guy was a few months old and had decent head control it was definitely hands free. And once your baby can sit up and you can do a back carry it’ll be fantastic.

I skipped the revolution, but I have both an OG and an onbuhimo happy baby carrier. Honestly, if you can afford both then I’d bite the bullet and get both. I love both of them and they are both so useful. The waistband for the OG is really comfortable and nice. The back carrying for the onbuhimo is AMAZING once you get there and your LO can sit unassisted I’m also a thinner person (5’6 and ~120lbs) and the waistband on the OG has always provided plenty of support
Thread: "Are Happy Baby carriers worth the price tag?"
chiming in as I have an original and onbuhimo, and have tried a revolution. I also decided to get a HBC bc it felt like such a hassle to use my ergobaby and hated dealing with the bulk. If you were to only get one, i’d definitely recommend the original. great support, super lightweight and packable. the onbuhimo can do front carry but was really meant for back carry, so best with a bigger baby. not having a waistband is convenient (like for me who has a growing pregnant belly), but it takes more time to build up the muscles needed to carry comfortably, and you still probably won’t be able to carry as long as in the original. Original can do back carry but babe sits lower and can’t see as well. revolution is nice if you absolutely insist on front carry as an option although it’s not the best ergonomically especially any longer than 20 min or so at a time, and can be over stimulating for babe too, though that depends on the baby. plus there’s a really short window of time when the baby is the weight and has the support that makes it comfortable to wear them that way. it didn’t seem worth it to me to have to add that bit of extra bulk, but that said the revolution still folds relatively small compared to others. I very regularly have my original buckled around my waist and worn like an apron between having my baby up and down and it feels like nothing, whereas with the revolution it’d probably be just bulky enough for me to take off in those instances. But yes, they have been worth it to me and as others have said they have great resale value, a lot selling more than retail even bc people like to seek out specific colors or sometimes buy ones that are nice and floppy/worn in. It would feel worth it to me even without the prospect of reselling later!

I've used a Moby, an ergo 360, a tula half-buckle, both a didy and a soul ring sling, and then my cousin in law sent us a happy baby (BEST gift we received). The Happy Baby Original is my go to for grocery store trips, making dinner, and mid-range walks. It lives in our diaper bag because it's the lightest and most versatile. I'd say worth it. I'm looking forward to using it with the next newborn but love it even now with our 10 month old.
Thread: "Happy baby carrier - not impressed"
So for the chest strap, after you figure out where you like it, just put it there while you get the carrier on. I prefer the chest strap at the bottom of the rails for front carry, so I put it there, loosen the shoulder straps all the way, place baby on my chest, pull the panel up and put the straps on, buckle the chest clip behind my neck, and then tighten the shoulder straps. Some people like to buckle the chest clip and then put their head through, but I prefer the way I’ve described. I’d recommend posting a fit check on the happy baby fb group on Monday (or here would probs work as well) to see if the head support issue can be corrected with any fit tweaks. When you say it’s hard to make adjustments yourself, which ones are hard? Just the chest clip tightness and position? The shoulder straps get easier to loosen/tighten as you use them more. I am short than you, but I do share the carrier with my 5’11” barrel chested partner. We do have to loosen the straps all the way before putting it on him, and I do shorten them before putting it on me (at least the waist and chest clip). Same thing we’ve had to do to share any carrier (ergo, naked panda, Oscha, lillebaby, etc).

The ease of use really sold me on it. And it’s kept coming up for plus size people. It is so easy to get on. Last winter (Canada) I could get in the back of my car and get my kiddo in it easily. And when I got out of my car, baby was secure and my jacket was on. No standing outside the car coatless in minus 20. I have the OG carrier. My kid is 33lbs and I still use it occasionally for back carrying when I’m around town

Thread: "What's the big deal with the Happy Baby Carrier?"
I actually love the happy baby carrier. It's simple and easy to use. My babies are little so they fit in it with ease. It's easy to put on and comfy for me. I was able to get mine straight from their site a year and a half ago. I've tried the Sakura bloom and a Lille baby and didn't really love either. Lille baby had way too much padding and ran too big for me and my babies and the Sakura bloom was beautiful but the long waist belt was impractical for me. That said, I also love just a plain old ring sling!
