- Easy to put on and take off quickly
- Good for short trips and quick errands
Cons (−)
- Can become uncomfortable after 30 minutes of use
- Not ideal for larger infants or longer outings
- Some parents find it less supportive than other models
Why parents like it
The cotton material is frequently praised for its softness and breathability. Many parents find it a reliable option for short outings with their little ones.
Common complaints
A common complaint is that the carrier can become uncomfortable after 30 minutes of use, especially for larger babies. Some parents also mention that they prefer more robust options for older infants.
Parents looking for a comfortable, easy-to-use carrier for short outings. However, it may not provide the support needed for longer wear with heavier babies.
The Ergobaby Original works well for quick errands, but parents seeking longer comfort might want to explore other carriers.

Thread: "The Ergobaby 360 Hype"
I wouldn’t call Ergobaby a fad, so much as widely available. In the United States you can get an Ergobaby carrier almost anywhere that sells baby stuff: to try this out I just typed “ergobaby” into Walmart’s search function, and the 360 is the top hit and is available for shipping. When I searched “kinderpack” and “Beco” there were no hits for either. So lots of people here have Ergos because they’re easy to get! I got an Ergobaby original as a hand-me-down from my SIL and used it with both my kids, it’s a great carrier.
Thread: "Does anyone have the ergo embrace?"
I don't have one but I have fit ppl with them. It is an excellent newborn carrier, but because the fabric is stretchy, most people find it uncomfortable when their LO gets heavier, usually between 3-6m. I would recommend a more robust carrier for a 5 month old, ergo original or 360, tula, naked panda. Lots are able to cross in the back which can be more comfortable than the clip.
Thread: "Best backpacks for hiking with baby?"
If you're not a super serious hiker, you may just want to use a standard SSC (soft structured carrier) and small crossbody. I'm also not a super serious hiker but have had my seasons of longer more frequent hikes while babywearing with a toddler, and ended up preferring that set up. I used a Lark, but an Ergo or Tula or LennyLight would work just as well I think.
Thread: "What is the best baby carrier?"
It depends on so many factors. Go to r/babywearing. And also check out your local babywearing library. It’s the best way. My vote is anything ergobaby. We’ve been through the embrace, original, 360. And anything Tula.
Thread: "Baby carrier recommendation?"
I bought a used Ergo and a used Tula. Both seem great so far but we’ll see once babe is here which is better. I figured for the price I paid used I could sell one again if I absolutely hated it.
Thread: "Best carrier to minimize back pain?"
I had back pain pre-pregnancy (thank you, years of working as a nurse for adults) and I really like the Beco 8. It has a lumbar support piece (that can be removed) and I find it incredibly comfortable. I've tried other carriers (Ergobaby original, Ergobaby omni breeze, Baby Bjorn) and I don't last longer than 30mins with them.
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula?"
An original Ergo (like the older model you posted) doesnt’ habe an adjustable panel and might not fit your baby yet (may take another month depending on you babies height). The good thing about the Ergo Original is that it’s made from cotton. The newer ones are all plastic and are bulky and less breathable. Just another thing to keep in mind.
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
I could’ve written this comment myself! I also have both of these. I enjoy them both but the Tula FTG is my first choice. My ergo original is my designated car carrier.
Thread: "Does anyone like the WildBird Aerial for front and back, perhaps more than the Happy Baby Original?"
I have a wildbird aerial and I think it is a really nice carrier. I do not have an HBC and have only seen my SILs once so I’m not sure I can compare directly well at all but the review you posted, to me, seems a little silly. That reviewer seems to want it to be more like an HBC, but if you want that then just get an HBC? An HBC is pretty minimal, not much padding at all so I would think therefore the HBC is less supportive? My baby is 7 months and other moms in my bump group with babies the same age are starting to say their HBCs are getting uncomfy for longer carrying time. I do have an ergo original and a lennylamb original as far as SSCs go and they all have their pros and cons including the aerial. But I babywear a lot with a number of different carriers so I feel like I at least have some relevant experience to compare different types. Here are my thoughts on the aerial: I feel like it has a nice amount of padding, not too much not too little. which gives nice support, but it isn’t overly padded (less than, say, a lillebaby, or ergo 360 which I find kind of bulky). But again, the “right” amount of padding is subjective. Aesthetically, it is really lovely. Some carriers are ugly. It is not. Front carry comfort: I love a carrier that can do diagonal straps across the back for front carry, I find this more comfortable. I recently stood and walked with my guy napping in the carrier for around an hour or so and did not have comfort complaints. Back carry comfort: I haven’t done a longer back carry in it yet, but no red flags. I found adjusting the chest clip to be slightly annoying. But you presumably only have to do this once so once you have it in the right spot for you then you won’t have to move it again. I feel like the waist band hip-scootches well. I agree with the review you shared that the little snaps to cinch the width are annoying and hard to adjust. But to me the cinch isn’t something you adjust vert frequently so it’s not a huge deal to me. Just my thoughts. So much of carrier stuff comes down to preference and comfort, it’s not really objective
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
I have an original ergo and a Tula explore and I like the Tula more right now! My son is 5.5 months, 16+ lb and over 27 inches. I like how the seat is adjustable so we were able to use it earlier than the original ergo. I feel like the padding is really supportive and I’m really comfortable in it. I started with a Beco Gemini and my husband uses that carrier now. Tbh I would have gotten a Tula free to grow because I’m not interested in world facing but was able to get this really great condition Tula explore for free.
Thread: "Meh Dai or stick it out with the Buckle Carrier (H&P)?"
Yes, and easier/more secure to get on via hip scoot, too. I haven't tried an apron-style buckle carrier like the lark, and I suspect that would have been more comfy than the original ergo I used sometimes since I'm not a fan of the huge padded waist. But I love a tibetan finish to distribute weight in a meh dai or wrap back carry, and a chest buckle just isn't going to come close to the comfort of a tibetan finish.
Thread: "Ergobaby or Tula? "
Same. I have the explore and original Ergo. I got a crazy good deal on the explore. I don’t plan to use it forward facing.
Thread: "Mabé, Tula, or Momcozy?"
I was going to mention that one too.

It’s crazy what you learn on Reddit oh my gosh! Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
Thread: "Ergo vs Tula"
My baby is also 9 months and a little over 21 lbs and it works great for us!
