Is this your first baby? I wouldn't want to get a wearable pump as your only option if you don't have any experience with them. They work for some people, but not great for others. I would get a Spectra or Motif if this will be your only pump. You can decide to purchase a wearable afterward if you end up exclusively pumping and need a handsfree option.
I have a Motif Luna and a Spectra S1 from my first baby and got an Elvie Stride for this baby. I had coworkers who would pump using the Elvie Stride during meetings and it was relatively quiet. It was only 10 dollars extra with my insurance. If money wasn't an issue, I would have gone with the regular Elvies.

I love the Elvie Stride - the suction is good and easy to use/wash, and even though wearing it transforms my flat chest into one that would impress Dolly Parton, they do fit well underneath clothes so I can get on with other things whilst I pump!
They promise to be whisper silent but that’s not true, it’s like an intermittent pshh pshh noise as the pump maintains suction. If you wore it in an office most of the room would start looking for the source of the quiet-ish pshhing. However it’s not an unpleasant noise and it doesn’t disturb baby/dog/husband.

I know this thread is old but for anyone still coming to research like me I want to add that I used the Elvie stride with great success (once I found the correct flange size) until one day when I finally was able to pump a full 5 oz of milk and the cup broke open in my bra. I was devastated to lose the milk but what made matters worse was the milk was sucked backwards into the motor and completely fried it. Their customer service was great and sent me new pieces but I never fully trusted it again.
I have used the Elvie stride in a variety of settings and it’s so quiet, no one even notices I’m pumping! Though once a woman near me kept checking her phone, I think because she thought she could hear it vibrating but it was just the pump 😂

Having both OG Elvie and Stride, it’s stride for me. Personally, I don’t get great output from wearables because of my elastic nipples and the need for long flanges but the stride gives me at least the best output. It has superior suction. OG Elvie is quieter though but honestly the stride just sounds like maracas from 200 meters away so it’s still pretty silent. I can’t speak for the willow but I opted for a stride based on comperison reviews I saw.

Oh my gosh, I just got a Medela harmony and love it!! I'm on my second kid and used the spectra pink a lot with my first, and occasionally the elvie stride. I've only used the spectra (got a blue one too) once in 6 weeks because the hand pump is SO convenient and good. It's seriously so much less effort and almost addictive 😂 highly recommend.
I get a good output with my Elvie stride but have found one component in particular to be completely unreliable (the double connect kit). This part has broken on me 3 times in less than 3 months, but has a 90 day warranty. The first time I ordered a replacement for next day delivery which I was happy to do. I contacted Elvie the same evening asking for a refund but they said they would only replace, not refund. I think it’s taking the piss a bit because I’m out £50 when I shouldn’t be. I’ve been sent free replacements each time after this but still going through the motions trying to get a refund.
Thread: "Hands free pump recommendations for low supply"
In my experience, and I hate hate to say this because i know it sucks… if you have an under supply and are still 3 months or less postpartum, I would hesitate to use a hands free just yet. I’m an under supplier also and currently 1 month PP with my second and I learned from my first that a hospital grade pump is the best for establishing supply. Once supply was establish and i was 3 months PP and beyond I was able to incorporate a hands free 2x a day and drop my MOTN pump. I personally used the Elvie stride and had to use it for 40 mins instead of 20 mins with my spectra. I still would pump with my spectra for all other pumps especially my morning pump and night pump. Having said that, maybe there is a stronger hands free out there I don’t know about!
Thread: "First time mom! What do people find to be the best breast pump?"
It’s pretty hard to know what will work for you until you try unfortunately. I think the spectra is the safe bet because it is the one most people use and it seems to work best for a lot of people.
I never wanted to pump much, but here I am on an EP journey and I hated being tied down to my spectra. Even though I have the chargeable one it is just big and hard to move around with. Also, it was not the most effective for getting milk out for me. I recently switched to a baby Buddha and it is so awesome. I love that I can walk around while pumping and it’s way better at getting milk out. The suction is definitely strong but I think their new version has a softer suction.
I also have an Elvie Stride and it’s fine if I’m going to be away for the day and need to get some pumps in. I would not use it as a main pump, and any situation where I would use it, I would probably just use the baby Buddha now.
Thread: "Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly?"
Spectra s1 is great and was a good place to start to get the hang of pumping. Lots of settings, though, but I found some pump setting plans on Pinterest that have worked well for me!
I also have the Elvie Stride, and it took some getting used to, but it's becoming my go-to because I don't have to worry about changing into a pumping bra/bralette/tank. I breastfeed directly from the boob most of the time and only pump like once a day, so this has been convenient to just slide into my bra. The spectra parts are easier to clean, but Elvie is easier to wear (once you get the hang of it).
In my experience (6 wks of experience lol), the pumping bras/bralettes even in small sizes are too big for my small boobs to pump with a standard pump comfortably without it breaking seal and leaking. I have to lean forward slightly, and that kills my back.
I also have the Medela Harmony manual pump. I hate it.
I also have the Haakaa. I hate it.
Personally, I don't have time to only pump one boob at a time, and the Haakaa was no comfortable to me.
I will say - I only chose these pumps because I got them Second hand. I have great insurance that would have covered either option, but friends were lining up to give their pumps away, and I felt that was less wasteful overall to just try theirs out.

Thread: "Pros/cons Elvie vs Willow"
I’ve had the Elvie Stride and the Willow Go. Elvie Stride - less bulky than the Willow Go but harder to position correctly on the nipples. The tubes always got in the way and the power part is heavy so you have to make sure you wear sturdy pants or attach it to your bra. In regards to output, I was never able fo get the same output as the Willow Go. I had issues with leakage that ended up killing my machine. More parts to clean. Willow Go - it is bulky but also has the option of 5 oz and 7 oz cups depending on how big your supply is. Find it easier to center on nipple correctly. You do need a nice bra to keep them in place (like Kindred Bravely). Able to maintain and increase my supply and use is as my primary pump. Easier to clean. Can’t bend over much with it because it has a hole on top
Thread: "Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly?"
So here’s what I did and what I wish I knew. I got the Spectra. It’s a GREAT pump. Here’s my problem. It’s big and doesn’t come with the wearable cups. I bought those separately and then it was great because I could pump hands free. BUT when I went back to work (hairstylist, active job, not many breaks) I needed something more easy to bring back and forth to work every day and have even had to pump on the floor. So the Spectra just wasn’t a hands free option, or a discreet option. Then I purchased the Elvie Stride. That’s been great because it’s small, quiet, I can wear it walking around hands free. The cups aren’t the most discreet looks wise. But I sucked it up. Under a cardigan or jacket would be more discreet if that’s a concern. I did have to troubleshoot how to use it a little, but their customer service is great! Cons: Every once in a while I’ll have a pump session and realize it wasn’t perfectly hooked up and I didn’t get anything. You do have to be very good about making sure it’s properly assembled. Overall, I’m glad I got the Elvie and I haven’t used my Spectra since just because the Elvie is so much more convenient and I can walk around and do things still.

Thread: "quiet pump recommendations"
I have used the Elvie stride in a variety of settings and it’s so quiet, no one even notices I’m pumping! Though once a woman near me kept checking her phone, I think because she thought she could hear it vibrating but it was just the pump 😂
Thread: "Hands free breast pumps"
M9 ALL THE WAY. I say this as someone who had the willow go, Elvie stride, spectra S1 and several other momcozy pumps
Thread: "What is the BEST hands free pump you've used?"
I have an Elvie stride and I do love the convenience, I pump a bit longer than with my spectra but I have no issues yet! Only used it a few times so far (was scared to in the beginning and didn’t want to mess with my supply) but it has been a joy to be able to walk and pump at the same time :)
Thread: "Current breast pump recommendations!"
I’ve heard amazing things about the eufy but haven’t personally tried it. I’m using the Momcozy S12 pro this time and they work great. I’ve also used Tsrete ones from Amazon and those were great too. I hated the Elvie Strides. I’ve pumped over 3 babies and literally could not get a drop out with those.
Thread: "Hands free breast pumps"
This is what I did! I love my spectra, but a toddler is a whole different ballgame. I have the lansinoh duo but mine stopped performing well even after replacement parts. The Elvie stride is pretty good! I have gotten better results so far with it.
Thread: "Hands free breast pumps"
I used the regular Elvie with my first and got the Elvie stride for my second. Only two weeks in but I’m loving the Stride and getting way more than I was with the regular Elvie. Also have a Spectra for stationary use.
Thread: "What is the BEST hands free pump you've used?"
I’m about to start my pumping journey and I have an Elvie Stride. Due to your description I’m now going to imagine myself as a traveling mariachi band with the maracas sound 😀
Thread: "What is the BEST hands free pump you've used?"
Thread: "What’s the strongest wearable pump?"
The Elvie Stride reminds me a lot of my Spectra so maybe that would work well for you? As far as a lot of suction you could maybe do the Baby Buddha with cups?
Thread: "What is the BEST hands free pump you've used?"
I have the Elvie stride and loved it. At first I got more with it than the s2 but after having to get a new hub I barely get half of what I would get on one side with the s2. However the Elvie cups with the s2 is a great combo!
Thread: "Why did you choose your wearable pump, what do you like about, what would you change?"
I love the Elvie Stride. Somehow I get more than my spectra. I do have to charge it after 2 pumps usually but that’s not hard to do. I use the fridge hack during the day as well. I’m only one month in to this but having the wearables has made pumping so much more manageable and I’m so grateful to not be stuck to the couch while pumping.
Thread: "Best breast pump for work"
You’ll definitely want to use a wall pump at least 1-2x/day because they’re generally more effective than wearables. I have a spectra (actually 2, one from each baby) that I really like, and I also have an Elvie Stride that I love - I’ve worn it in meetings, in the lab, at the store, and have only been called out one by a 3-year-old in my older son’s class who saw it on my waistband and asked what it was.
Thread: "What are the best Wearable pumps?!"
I’ve got tiny boobs (barely a B) and the Momcozy S12 works best for me. Then the M5, followed by the Elvie Stride.
Thread: "Best hands free pump? Willow, momcozy, or Elvie?"
I have the Elvie Stride and I love it. My only complaint is that the cups don’t hold many ounces and I’m an over-producer. I have to stop 4-6 minutes in to dump before finishing the session. It’s super quiet, very comfy and easy to clean and re assemble. Awesome customer service too.
Thread: "Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly?"
Thread: "Best wearable pump 2024?"
Thread: "QUIET wearable pumps??"
The Elvie stride isn’t super loud IMO, but I don’t have any other wearable to compare it to
Thread: "Pros/cons Elvie vs Willow"
Thread: "Breast Pumps, the good, the bad, and the ugly?"
Sounds odd that something manual is less effort than something automated. Why is that?
Thread: "Best wearable breast pump"
+1 it works better for me than my spectra
Thread: "Best portable breast pump?"
I love the Elvie Stride.. however, thing sounds like an industrial sized hydraulic pump. It’s SUPER loud. And it spills/leak a little each time you take it off to empty it.
Thread: "Wearable Breast pumps"
I use an elvie stride at work and with noise in the room you can only hear them if you’re really trying to listen. The sound mostly comes from the motor, so if it’s in mg pocket it’s even quieter.
Thread: "What’s your favorite portable/wearable breast pump?"
I’ve tried the Elvie stride and I liked that you could control it with the app, and log how many oz you pumped in each cup at the end of each session. it started to leak but their customer service it really good and they sent me new seals. I have the willow go now and it’s truly wireless. I much prefer not having the tubes. I’ve only used it a couple times but I’ll be using it for work over the Elvie. They’re both pains to clean though.
Thread: "QUIET wearable pumps??"
Agreed with what other people have said about the Elvie stride, the motor is attachable to your waist or with a lanyard so that’s the part that makes noise. That’s the wearable that I know a few people in healthcare have used
Thread: "Best Affordable Wearable Pump?"
I’m in the minority here but I hate my momcozy m5. It hurts so bad. I didn’t think I liked my elvie stride until I tried this one and was in so much pain, even with the right size flanges
Thread: "Wearable Breast pumps"
For real, I've had to get some new work shirts because while I love my Elvie Stride, it adds like 2 whole cup sizes. My spouse says I look like a Jayne Mansfield impersonator 😅
Thread: "Wearable Breast pumps"
I had Momcosy ones and whole they were great for about 6 months after that the motor crapped out. I had 2 replaced by the company but when the third one went about the same time frame I went with an Elvie Stride instead. Notably I wasnt even using my wearable daily as I mostly fed direct from the breast. It was just the once or twice a week so I had a back up in the freezer/if I went out.
Thread: "Nurses: OG Elvie or Willow 360? Which pump is better on the go , limited breaks etc"
I'm searching! Thank you for sharing your experience
Thread: "HELP. Can't decide between Willow Go and Elvie Stride!"
I liked the Elvie Stride for the first 4-5 months but lately, it has been very slow and isn’t emptying my breasts as effectively. I have tried replacing the tubing and that hasn’t helped, so I’m afraid it’s not a maintenance issue. Going to try a different breast shield size next (I originally needed to buy the smaller size, which is sold separately) and hope that works. The Elvie Curve was also a meh for me, and I actually prefer the Hakka. It’s nice to *see* the output, and you could still hand express if you’re impatient.
Thread: "Do you need a hospital grade pump?"
Yes, I exclusively pumped with my first with my spectra just fine. With this one I got an elvie stride with insurance and am disappointed with it, and am almost exclusively using my spectra. so I’d add to this to not get a wearable pump as your primary pump. And to invest in good flanges for your pump! That’s made a world of difference this time around.
Thread: "Do you need a hospital grade pump?"
I tried many pumps, including Spectras, and I always come back to Symphony. It just empties me best. For trips I went with Elvis Stride, and it empties me 80-90% of the way.
